Who remembers those old handheld games with monochrome lcds?
Here's a Windows Mobile version of a Russian version of the game.
The game is simple, all you have to do is catch the eggs as they fall.
The bunny that shows up on the screen is on your side, you will only lose half a point if you drop an egg, otherwise you lose a life.
You have 3 lives to keep you going, and if you make it to 200 or 500 points you lost lives will be given back to you.
See how many you can catch and don't forget that the eggs start falling faster as you keep playing.
THIS GAME REQUIRES OPENGL
UPDATE v1.1
Added WVGA and WQVGA Support
Update v1.2
Minor fixes, reported to work much better
Supported Resolutions: VGA (Tested), QVGA (Should Work), WVGA and WQVGA (Awaiting confirmation)
For those of you that have problems running the game, install the attached libGSES_CM.cab file.
nice & funny. quite nostaligic.
I like it

thanks as always for the great games
Nice work man!

you find it hard to play? Is it screen sensitivity? I was playing it one handed yesterday and even then I was doing pretty well
It wont play on my Fuze..starts then just freezes my phone and have to take the battery out...any thoughts?

found out my problem no OpenGL
did it work once you installed the opengl file? it should
No it still froze and made my TF3D crash and just appeared as a white screen and no soft resets or anything fixed it so i had to do a hard reset to reinstall the rom lol....oh well....and then to make matters worse I left my phone at work in the bathroom and can't get it until 10am...4 hours to go
doesn't sound like Eggs would have done that... it's just a small app and does absolutely no system changes of any kind...

Yea I know it was weird, the TF3D was still there and I could switch the different screens but it was white and I would see a few words or a number.. It all happened when I put the OpenGL into my Windows Directory
tried it on my Xda Flame and it doesnt work..
gives errors like: Eggs.frmGame.InitGL()
like most other opengl apps for Diamond
WVGA and VGA error
I tried running it on my Sharp S01SH. I get:
MissingMethodException
Can't find PInvoke DLL 'libgles_cm.dll'.
at OpenGLES.egl.GetDisplay (EGLNativeDisplayType display_id)
at Eggs.frmGame.InitGL()
at Eggs.frmGame..ctor()
at Eggs.Program.Main()
Tested it on my other device, W-ZERO3 (VGA) and get the same error.
Too bad. I remember playing this game when I was 13 or 14.
I've attached opengl cab file, try to run that and let me know if it works. thanks
WVGA error
Hi, I installed OpenGL. I actually first placed the DLL file available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=525315 directly in the Windows directory. The game returned the same error as above.
Then I installed your CAB. The game now starts but loads in portrait mode with the controls badly positioned. When I try switching to landscape, the screen becomes a real mess. Will try on the VGA device and post report in a while.
VGA error
Tried it on the VGA device as well.
Game seems to load normally - at least buttons are where supposed. However, when I press Start the buttons disappear and nothing happens. After I minimize the program and then return to it, I get some error with a loooong description. Here's the beginning of it:
InvalidOperationException
at System.Media.Waveparser.CheckNativeError (Int32 error)
at System.Media.WaveParser.Play (Boolean synchronously, Boolean looping)
at System.Media.SoundPlayer.doPlay (Boolean synchronously, Boolean looping)
at Eggs.Egg..ctor()
................
Hope this helps your development!
Oh, forgot to add, I get the same error on the WVGA device after a couple attempts to switch the screen from landscape to portrait and back.
Juts tried it on a stock Touch Pro 2 with .Net 3.5 loaded and it works without a problem. It's not full screen but otherwise it's fine
I cannot start the game, but start button is pushable and nothing happens
.NET CF
On my Diamond i've got a problem with .NET CF
I just installed .NET CF 3.5 without success- which version do I need?
.net 3.5 should work, what errors are you getting?

Hey !
A while ago I owned a Toshiba G900 which also had a WVGA Screen.
Many programms had problems with this screen especially emulators.
So I searched and found -WVGA FIX- a programm written from Cotulla for the G900 which emulates a VGAscreen. So I was able to use mostly every program.
A week ago I received my X1 and tried WVGA Fix ! It didnt work...
After some searching i found a improved Version -WVGA FIX 2- now supporting all WM 5, 6, 6.1 and WVGA devices.
This little Program virtually "cuts" the pixels bigger than VGA from your device.
Dont get scared.. This only happens as long as you run the program.
Those pixels get black and the program emulates a VGA screen.
When you choose to get back to WVGA everything is fine again
So most programms (not only emulators) will work fine on our nice WVGA screen.
I thought some people here will love this tool too.
PS:Install the cert first, then WVGA FIX2 second.
Cheers !
All credits for this tool -> Cotulla

How handy! Now snes emulator should work fine then, I guess.
Thanks
why install certs? got it working without
that helps quite a bit with the emulators. however my main issue is the performance. with sound all the games run really slow. which emulator do you guys use and how do they run performance wise?
another question regarding wvga-fix.:
when i activate it the clicks arent registerd in the right location anymore. its quite hard to start programs then and navigate. that could be an issue with scumm and games that require on screen navigation
this program will be uber great if only it has somekind of profiles to automatically switch between wvga and vga mode whenever specific programs executed.

1. I play play most games without sound. Works really nice. With sounds some emulators can lag. Try to find "your" best settings ;-)
2. The clicks (when using programs ! ) are in the right places. Scumm and everything else will work fine. This happens only in WVGA-FIX-2.
Greets !

Haha, that would be nice but at the current state it still helps a LOT ;-)
Maybe someone will develop something like that ?
I don't think this works for me
When I run VGA games they just shrink to the default VGA size and I'm left with about a quarter of my screen black at the bottom
The games run perfect but they do not fill the screen.
Is this app supposed to reduce the resolution of the X1 to VGA and therefore make VGA games etc run full screen?
What are the 2 cabs for???

Hey.
To play SCUMM 0.12 Games, just run WVGAFIX and use the VGA Setting.
The screen shrink to VGA.
Start SCUMM and go to OPTIONS
Under GRAPHICS use
Graphics mode : HQ2x
Render mode: default
Fullscreen mode -> YES
Aspect ratio correction -> YES
->>>> Have fun playing SCUMM Games ;-)
BTW: Whats BS1 +2 ?

Well, I think I have a solution for this one. WVGAFIX2 has two command line parameters: "-800" for switching to VGA and "-600" to switch back to WVGA. Now you only need to make a batch file which first launches the VModeSwitch.exe -800, then it launches the game and finally, when the game is exited, it launches VModeSwitch.exe -600.
Instructions (for MortScript):
If your phone doesn't support .bat files (mine doesn't), you need to download MortScript. That's a nice script utility for Pocket PCs
I have a game called "Orions: Legend of Wizards", which needs to be played in VGA-mode. So first I create a new blank text file and type in something like this:
Code:
runwait( "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\VModeSwitch.exe", "-800" )
runwait( "\Storage Card\Program Files\Orions\ppc.exe" )
run( "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\VModeSwitch.exe", "-600" )
I used two methods:
Run( application [, parameter ] )
and
RunWait( application [, parameter ] )
RunWait means it waits for the program to end until it moves on to the next line.
The code basically changes the screen to VGA-mode, then launches the game (ppc.exe) and finally switches back to WVGA when the game is ended.
Finally just save the text file as .mscr, for example I would save it as Orions.mscr
When I want to play Orions I just click Orions.mscr and it handles all the WVGAFIX2 stuff automatically. Easy.

woah great post, I will try that sometime later
Oh yeah, I found more usefull stuff about MortScript as I was reading the manual. With X1 the changes are that WVGAFIX2 flips the screen upside down making the pen miss the targets. You should be able to fix it simply by toggling the keyboard in and out, but you can do it in the script too.
Rotate( 0 ) changes the screen to the portrait position and
Rotate( 270 ) changes the screen to landscape position.
As you can propably guess, the number is between 0-360. So go ahead and mix that somewhere between the code if you want.
My code for Orions currently looks like this:
Code:
runwait( "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\VModeSwitch.exe", "-800" )
Rotate( 270 )
runwait( "\Storage Card\Program Files\Orions\ppc.exe" )
runwait( "\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\VModeSwitch.exe", "-600" )
slide = RegRead( "HKLM", "System\GDI\Rotation", "SlideKey" )
If ( slide = 0 )
Rotate( 0 )
Else
Rotate( 270 )
EndIf
You propably shouldn't copy paste my code if you don't understand what's going on. But basicly:
After it has changed to VGA (and the screen is upside down), it Rotates 270 to landscape mode. Then it launches the game and after that it changes back to WVGA. Now here is where I went crazy. It actually checks from the registry if the keyboard is in or out and then rotates the screen accordingly to either portrait mode or landscape mode.

There is a game on the iPhone called Lights Out where the object of the game is to light up or knock out all the lights in a 5x5 grid. When a square is selected that square and its four immediate neighbours, above, below, and to each side invert. There is no wraparound. The object of the game is to get all the squares black.
At the risk of revealing my age, I saw a hand held version of this game in the early 1980's.
When mastering any new programming platform, this application becomes the standard with which I start. I know the logic, so the problem merely becomes getting the thing to run under the new platform. I wrote this in 2005 while fighting my way through the very steep learning curve of Embedded C++. Previous platforms for this program have been, ZX81, BBC Micro, DOS, Windows and finally Windows Mobile. Next stop Linux!
It is an example of minimalist programming on WM. Written in Embedded C++ as a Win32 application it is targetted at ARMv4 chipsets. As such it should run on all PPC versions from Windows Mobile 2002 onwards. The menu is limited to two main items, so WM 5/6 will display it as a WM 5/6 app. Minimalist programming means it can be distributed as as a single .EXE file of a mere 9.5 Kb in size. The DLLs it calls are already on your device, there is no need for a .CAB installation.
It has 5x5, 7x7 and 9x9 grids, all are solvable.
I hope you enjoy it. It will keep you quiet but it might drive you totally nuts!
UPDATE!!! Now works with 480x800/240x400 devices, see later posts for the details.
UPDATED!! Version 1.2 released.
Changes: 11x11 grid added. It is solvable, but it took me a while to figure it out!. You may need a stylus as fingers may be a bit too awkward. For that reason, I do not intend to go to 13x13 and beyond.
The short display glitch on initial program load now fixed.
Game and drawing code optimised. (There are often better and faster ways to do things, if you take the time to look.)
UPDATED!! Version 1.3 released.
Now also runs on both Pocket PC and SmartPhone devices. Now runs on any sized screen, even those that have not been released yet! The blank screens that were reported in later posts are now a thing of the past. Here's the method, take the width and height of of the client area and size the game to 90% of smaller of the two. Why did I not think of that in the first place?
SmartPhone users:- Welcome aboard! Image attached below: The white square is the target square. Move it to the square you want to change with the D-Pad/Arrow buttons, then press 'Enter' to change it. Smartphones prior to Mobile 6.0 may not have the 'File Explorer' application. (It depends on the OEM build). In this case, use ActiveSync. Connect to your phone and drop the unzipped 5x5.exe file via the 'Explore' option into the \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games\ directory, and it will appear alongside Solitaire and BubbleBreaker in the games menu of your device. Smartphone 2002/2003 users need to use \Storage\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Games\
Pocket PC users won't see any change, just tap the square you want to change. The program looks at which platform it is running on, and behaves accordingly.
UPDATED!! Version 1.4 released. - The Knight's Gauntlet.
Just when you thought you've mastered it, the Knight's Gauntlet is firmly thrown down. Selecting Knights from the main 5x5 menu, changes the pattern of squares that are inverted to those a knight's move away in chess, (two forward, then one to the side), as per the Knights image below. Up to 9 squares will invert on each move. As per changing the grid size, toggling the knights game on and off will restart the game.
All four grid sizes are solvable, but you are warned, it is a lot harder than the normal cross game.
It was only a small change to the game logic, and this program was all ready to go in September, but I would not release it, until I had proved to myself that it could be done. A brute force attack can be used to break the 5x5 Knight's game but as the grid gets bigger the problem grows exponentially. A quad core processor running a console C++ application, using the SSE3 PC registers (XMM) macros to play one move on the entire board in one machine instruction, was not enough.
I had to use a special version of the mobile program that could dump the state of the board and moves out to a file to be analysed by the PC later by a suite of programs that could combine boards together by the thousands. All good fun!
On and off, it has taken me three months to find the knights solutions to the 7x7, 9x9 and 11x11 games.
UPDATED!! Version 1.5 released. Now with demo mode.
For those who think it is impossible, let the demo mode show you how to do it.... But there is a slight twist........ You will be shown the same solution for each puzzle each time, but the moves are shuffled and they may also be reflected or rotated, just to confuse matters further. Shuffling the moves, rotating, or reflecting, logically, has no effect on the final result.
Happy puzzling!
18th Feb 2010 update fixes WinMo 6.5.3 Dialog box issue mentioned in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=635063
23 June 2011 CE version added. Note this version is for Windows CE, ARM powered devices only, as is displayed in the last of the images below. Don't run this version on a WinMo device the display will look awful! As an extra caveat, it will only run properly if the OEM of your CE device has built the OS with components that are expected by the 'Standard' version of the SDK as used by EVC 4.0.

Anybody thown their phone out the window in frustration yet?
To the members having trouble with high resolution devices, it was only written to run on 'standard' Pocket PC screens, 240x320 portrait/landscape and 240 square devices.
Sorry it doesn't work properly on larger screens. I'll have a look at it. I may have to borrow one of these later wizzo phones from someone, and find out what's going wrong, or I'll see what's in the WM6 SDK emulator.
May take a while, but I'm on it. Watch this space.
doesn't work on touch diamond 2 with 800x480?
any solution you might know?
anybody??
seems like a great hit, this game.....
tnx in advance
marcel
I have downloaded the WM 6.1.4 SDK from Microsoft's site. It includes a 800x480 device image.
The bad news is the program produces the effect mentioned above. i.e white screen, and nothing.
The good news is exactly that, the bug can be reproduced. This will allow me to step through it, figure out exactly what the hell is going wrong, and fix the code.
This may take few days to sort out, more later.
Fixed! Now works on 800x480 devices as well, in landscape or portrait. Use the zip file in the original post at the top, it has been updated with the new program.
The reason for the fault was that 800x480 devices return a bigger value for the long side of the screen when using GetClientRect();
The program did not recognise this value and could not figure out whether it was landscape, portrait or square, which fouled up the WM_PAINT code.
The code automatically centres the grid in the window, so that bit was OK.
Have fun, until a new screen format comes along.........
This little game is f***ng addicting!
Thanks a lot!
Keep up the good work!

Reply to GreenOmnia
GreenOmnia,
This program will run on 480x800 devices as marcelvanblankers above can confirm. The problem may be that you still have the old version of 5x5 active in your phone.
On a PC you can run multiple versions of Word, Excel etc. until you run out of memory. Under WM only one version of any program is allowed to run at any one time. When a program starts it looks for the same named process. If it finds it it, it activates that copy, and then kills itself. Later versions of WM may correct this, but earlier programs still run to these rules. If you load a new version of the program to your phone and have the old version still active in memory, when you run the new one you only reactivate the old one.
Listen up everybody! Think about the above paragraph. If you have understood it, that is a real WM pearl of wisdom!
To fix the problem, if your version of WM has Task Manager, use that to kill the running version of 5x5, or use Settings->System->Memory->Running Programs and then select 5x5 and end it. Delete all versions of 5x5 from your phone, then reload the new version from the top post in this thread and retry it.
If all this still doesn't work, I will post a test program to run on your device that reports the actual size of the client area window.
We'll take it from there.
Anyone up for popping Bubble Wrap?
If you have to kill some time, it is always fun to pop bubble wrap, unfortunately it may run out...
Not anymore...
Virtual bubble wrap is the way to go. Pop as many bubbles as you can within 45 seconds, they do regenerate in a funky sort of way.
If you pop all the bubbles before one has a chance to regenerate you get your time left on the clock times 5 added to your score.
Enjoy...
Supports VGA, QVGA, WQVGA and WVGA
If you are missing opengl, try the attached libGLES_CM.cab

Cool as usual, mate
works great on a Touch Pro 2...fun as usual
Cool game, but it works pretty slow on my iPAQ 214 Could you optimize it somehow?
is it normal that it is very slow ? (on a Diamond) without any UI (no manilla, no spb power shell... nothing).
It is like the screen is updated every seconds, I have time to pop out 10 bubbles before seeing them going flat :/
Works great on my Fuze, but there is a memory problem. After exiting game nothing shows in Task Manager but an active process (looking through MemMaid) remains open, bubblewrap.exe 1.74mb.
If you open the game again you get a second process occurance even after closing. Hope this can be resolved. I am already addicted.

i believe those issues are caused by opengl drivers you might have on your device, i ran the app on my phone (htc diamond) and it runs and closes without any issues. also tried on emulators and it seems to be fine. make sure that you do not have libGLES_CM.dll in the app directory (should be in windows dir only), also try to download attached libGLES.cab (i just put a different cab). let me know if it made any difference, thanks

OK, I have some news :
without your OGL cab (the one from yesterday) : I got an internal error, I had to soft reset my diamond.
I decided to add your OGL cab (I did the install on the external storage) : It was slow as hell.
Then I tried to install the OGL cab on the device : still slooooow
then I uninstalled the OGL and now it works as it should ! (I guess)
I managed to score 205 points.
Besides this technical problems, for me, it's almost impossible to flat down the bubbles once they start to regenerate. I manage to do it in one shot, but if a bubble starts to regenerate, I can't catch up because everything is almost popping back at the same time, and you have to wait after them to become ready before being able to flat them down another time :/
btw nice game

I ugraded to the new HTC/ATT ROM last night so my device is now pretty clean (and much faster). I checked and I only have one LIBGLES_CM.dll on my device, located in the \windows\ folder. Size = 319.9K & date = 11/26/08. This is the same file that was on my original stock ROM. How is this file different from the one in your CAB? How will it affect my device? With a clean setup I just want to make sure I don't mess anything up.
BTW, I tried opening a half dozen games, including Magic 8 Ball and Peg Jump. None of the games left anything behind, but Bubblewrap still left the .exe running.
Thanks for your efforts.
did the bubble wrap work with the original libgles_cm?
Good but slow
i love games like these but it runs slow on my HTC Kaiser is there anywhy of making it faster

I've created first game based on my HG-Engine, here you are. It's simple touch game for test your finger speed
I recommend landscape position for play with both thumbs...
You have to click on the nearest red proton (+) before it reach the front.
Be carefull, speed gets higher and wrong tap decreases your score!
Note: It's only beta version, future development depends on public feedback!
Have a fun and post your highscore ;-)

2208, I look forward to more titles using HG-Engine. Good Job.
[bug]
.. As I was typing this, I left the game over screen open. After ~5 minutes the screen went into sleep mode and the device started a light vibrate that never stopped. I could not turn on the screen and no button presses helped. Had to restart device. [HTC Touch Pro].
Tried to repeat the bug: It didn't vibrate this time but the screen becomes completely black and I'm unable to do anything.
Atleast a screenshot ? Resolution info ?
Thanks for the game hope you keep developing it
Screenshots added... This game is mainly for WVGA, but may works also on VGA devices.
I'll look on that sleep mode bug, but it's not critical, game is playable... so now I have more prior ideas ;-) anyway, thx for report
Very good work, the game looks great and the feeling while you play is awesome
Wow! really nice! The HG-Engine is really cool.
Here are my suggestions:
Try to improve the smoothness of the reaction from the G-Sensor (You can look how the Diamond VR Hologram smoothness setting works).
Try to improve the sensitivity of tapping (I find myself tapping the cubes more than once most of the time).
Add levels of difficulty or game modes. Try color coding or moving blocks.
Looking forward to new games or new versions!
I like it, runs perfect on topaz TD2.
You may make a tetris or dr.Mario like games. The point, use cool game soundtracks (May 8-bit like NES, or good remixes ). Simple games with good soundtracks, always remembering easy i think.
Check out this,

Really cool soundtrack i think, so i remember this game easily.
Version updated to 0.9 ;-) Check out new features at first post!
I'm working on G-Sensor smoothing algorithm, but it's not important thing for now. It's 3:50 AM here, so I'm gonna sleep, GN & HF!
Omnia
but i can utilies this application on my omnia?
nice game, just a couple of suggestions:
is it possible to replace the cube with slightly bigger cylinders- this might make it look slightly finger freindly
also removal of the graphics to simple shaded colours might make and improvement in speed
finally would it be too difficult to make the objects appear randomly, (this might mean more coding for you)
a few suggestions thats all
p.s it works quiet well on my diamond although a bit sluggish at times
nice work
TytnII
I have TyTn II, Is it compatible?

Click to collapse
Sorry, it's not... Requires G-Sensor and WVGA or VGA display.
For others: graphics will be improved to final version... You don't have to tap proton itself, clickable is full area of display, so you can tap the corner ;-)
It is a pitty you can not run it on non HTC device, you get an error when invoiking GSensorSDK.HTCGSensor - do you consider the game to hndle that nicely and worki without GSensor?
Okay, I'll build "no g-sensor" version for uncompatibile g-sensors and devices without it ;-)
This game is additively fun! Great job!
Maybe a bit of difficulty setting would be better, it seems as thought it increasingly gets more difficult as time goes by. I like that it does this, but eventually it gets to a point that its simply moving faster than i can tap no matter how great i am at it
Id like a more constant difficulty i guess... hey, if this is all i have to complain about than it must be really good lol. Im looking forward to more HG-engine releases!
Thanks
Hey HTC-Fan,
great job. It works well on my HTC-D with Sun Y 6.1 B3.
Waiting for new levels or game

Hi there
Are you still developing this? I just came across it on pocketpcfreeware and I think it is pretty cool.
My suggestions:
Technical:
A soundtrack
Some SFX
Use the vibrate function when you make a wrong tap
Shake the screen a bit when you make a wrong tap
Conceptual:
Lose lives instead of points for tapping an electron?
Make the 'well' deeper to allow more scope for interaction with other objects
Add in some more 'enemies' for variety e.g. positrons which you can steer into electrons using the g-sensor or gestures for non-sensor devices?
hi,
This is a beta of my second game Spaceman. I am having limited time to develop this game as my work is very busy. Instead of not releasing it i though i would as it is still playable at beta version (tested on HTC tp2 and SE x1).
This is a Shooting game, think space invaders.
It is WVGA ONLY
In the .rar u will find the spaceman .cab + spaceman .exe (for people who dont want to install a cab) + Ganondolfs Adventure .cab (my first game, also WVGA ONLY) and a .txt file.
I am currently unable to get a screen shot of the game but if anyone who downloads it would upload a pic i would appreciate it.

Thanks
Here you go Gandolf. Not a bad start at all! I didn't get very far on spaceman, but I only tried it for a few minutes. Would it maybe be possible to have it so holding one of the directional buttons keeps you moving in that direction, instead of having to taptaptap a whole bunch? That would make it a little easier for me at least
Thanks for the contribution, I always love user-created content like this!
First 2 pics are spaceman, 2nd pair is Adventure, natch
Great work on both I must say, keep it up! As a graphic designer I must object to the wanton use of a swirlywirly font in the menus. Easier reading
