a bunch of questions plz help - myTouch 3G, Magic General

ok total noob here
i rooted my tmobile mytouch 3g using the one click process and it worked great been loading new roms ever since
1st question is
how do you partition the sd card to the fat32/ext2/swap etc using windows xp?
2nd question is
is there a way to load a new recovery image from the sd card?
i saw the amons recovery img has the option to partition your sd card
but when i try to fastboot i get the downloading img error failed etc
reading its because of my spl correct?
3rd and final question
theres been different roms where it says you need the 3 partition sd card for it to run how would you install those images and what is the purpose of having the 3 partition?
any help would greatly help

You should use Ubuntu to partition the sd card. You can burn it to a cd and run it from there.

use sdparted - see this thread

partitioning SD card fat32/ext2/swap?

ive never had to set up an SD card like this before and when i google my way around the internet i find a lot of tips and videos...the only problem is that all the tutorials seem to be on the G1 and require the use of a hard keyboard once under "go to console" in android system recovery. can anyone point me in the right direction to set this up on a tmobile mytouch 3g?
amon_RA's recovery will do it automatically for you- boot into it and then select the partition option.
i am having the same issue here. i have a 32b magic with rav1.2.0g.img recovery.
i can format the sd card in the recovery but when i get back into windows, the laptop doesnt recognise it and neither does the phone. both say the card needs re-formatting.
Any help here would be great. sorry to interupt in your thread!
no helpers then?
ive been using the one click mytouch root and for some reason i cant go from cyanogen to anon's recovery. something must have gone wrong because i cant load a different recovery image. is there any other program or means to partitition my sd card?
Partition program
there should be a partition creator for android im in the same boat
just bumping this. still cant find a way to do this with cynogen recovery img on a mytouch. cant use console because there is no keyboard. ughhhh...
you have to connect phone to PC via USB and use "adb shell"
To partition sd card
use sdparted - see this thread

partation on mytouch
download better terminal with keybroad (mytouch)
then use sdsplit
this was the easiest way i found. last time i spent like a day reading on how to. i found this guide and had it done in less than 20 minutes.

Sorry for the small OT... But what is the point/advantage in making theese 3 partitions?
Better speed/perfomance? or is it just necessary for flashing?

If your sd card is blank or if youve backed up its contents then you can just power on using home + power and you will see the option there to setup your partitions
Cant find it
Not with cyanogen recovery 1.4 I did it through g parted live cd with my screen flickering like crazy because i failed to notice the resolution icon...but any way I am appd to sd'd up
I used Amon_RA recovery image to partition my SD. Now my question is how do I know it is partitioned and know that my apps are automatically being installed there.
Also I had apps on my phone prior to partitioning and I noticed an option in the recovery to move apps to SD, is that all you need to do to move them?
Thanks guys
Partition
After u format it they will copy over automatically
1.4 Does not seem to have that option...

1.4 Does not seem to have that option, and since this is the first time I have used it, I have nothing to compare it to. I see " [Alt+F] repair ext filesystems", that can't be it, can it?

Clockwork Recovery 3.0 Corrupted My 16gb Sd Card

I had just finished installing Myns New Rom and Flashed the combo radios aswell, I ran Titanium Backup and installed my apps. I opened Rom Manager and said I had to flash Clockwork Mod and it updated to 3.O. I then proceeded to make a back up of the rom and then my phone went straight to boot loader, It would not reboot and would not enter recovery just reboots back into boot loader. I finally removed the sd card and rebooted after 10 mins it went back to my rom. I then tried to open my sd card on pc an nothing shows up, I tried 2 others and nothing, cannot even format. I borrowed my friends evo and went to recovery with sdcard in to format it say error can not mount and nothing. I tried within the phone, with cm6 installed and it said the sd card was blank or wrong something, (I forgot) No luck. I think it might have destroyed my sd card, Im trying to find a software that may allow me to do so any luck.
-not visible in pc
-cannot mount or format on phone or recovery mode.
-16gb Micro Sd card Sandisk class 2, bought when touch pro came out for 110 from bestbuy (got 100 back from Htc Touch return so really only 10)
-Had partitoned earlier to run mikifroyo app2sd, unpartioned by formatting.
Please any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
Ok when I Insert My SD card it just boots to loading and reboots over and over again. Any ideas?

try looking in the forums for the lastet recovery in .zip format.
Copy it to the root of the sd card. (if you think that you have an issue with the SD card, then take a fresh SD that is formatted to Fat32. Make sure it is not NTFS. If you formatted on the Mac, make sure the partition format is MBR and not GUID, if you don't know how to do this, I can explain further. The easiest way would be to make sure that you do it on a windows machine)
Start your phone, and hopefully it will install the recovery automatically.
After you install the recovery, and get your phone booted into android, you can locate a pre-rooted rom of your choice in the forums here or at the "other" place if you prefer.
You can read more about it in this other section of the forum. The information below is from that forum, in case you can't find it or are too lazy to search.

Same here. Maybe its something to do with UK Hd2's.
I followed all the instructions too, and kept getting stuck in the boot screen loop.
Back to Nand for me... one thing, on screen before screen to flash zip it says can't find misc, even when I make a misc folder it makes no difference. Good luck to you anyway.

Can you tell us what you're doing and what happens?
i Copy contents of copytosdroot folder to the root of my sd.then i boot into magldr and go into USB Flasher whilst still connected to my laptop,Run DAF,when thats done i again boot into magldr and tap Boot AD SD but it keep failing to go into Clockwork,i keep getting soming like k:Music/zimage not found or failed to load kernal even tho ive fully formated my sd,its really anoying,i cant try out any new roms exept nand,Really frustrating
I had problems running like this initially - what worked was putting the 'copytosd' files in a folder on the SD Card (I used 'ADSD'), then changing the Boot AD SD folder option in the Settings menu to that new folder ('ADSD').
Then try using 'Boot AD SD' option.
For some reason it did not like the root folder initially (though it now seems to work fine).
Use Panasonic SD Card formatter & re format the SD card & try again, I had the same issues but now its resolved..!!!

Guys,
Mine works as well so not a UK issue
Did you follow the instructions using DAF and indicated that it was successful but when you try to 1: boot from sd nothing happens or it flashes and returns to the MAGLDR screen?
I had an issue with the root folder as well, create a folder \recovery and copy the 2 root files intrid.gz and zimage to the \recovery and goto services and change the boot to folder to \recovery.
Important reboot before trying as MAGLDR does not change the folder until after a reboot.
Boot from SD and should be OK
Or at least was for me
Now Nand has came out it has inspired a lot to create their own Android builds and new chefs make mistakes. Not trying to blame chefs in general but some do make mistakes.
Also when we used to load up the builds from SD card, I would say 8 times out of 10 I would use a data.img which hasnt been used before. Now if you go from a Sense build to a non-Sense build, and you are using a data.img in app2sd, then they are not properly matched so a-b might go to a-c and miss b out if you know what I mean. What I do is use a data.img for Sense, another for Sense HD/Z, another one for Gingerbread and another for Miui and these are on my Desktop. When I load up a different builds like Sense to Miui, then I will move the data.img from .data or data2sd folder off the memory card and then overwrite the data.img I have on the Desktop for Sense and replace it for my Miui data.img.
I know it sounds tedious but I found it to help.
Also for the new App2SD+, I create the partition using ClockWorkMod instead of another application. I will use Partition Wizard for Windows to delete a partition and resize the fat32 partition back to the full use of the memory card but always partition and create EXT3 partition using ClockWorkMod.
Hope this helps.

i have a slightly different problem: I can boot into clockwork recovery after copying the copy-to-sd files and use it as a partitioning tool. But cant actually complete the installation as I keep getting errors when i run the DAF file from CWM folder in USB flasher option of MAGDLR, so cant actually use it for recovery !!!!

[Q] Formatting SD Card on Mac and starting over

A few weeks back I installed Honeycomb to boot off an SD Card. I'd like to format the SD card and start over. Is there anything specific I need to do to the card? Can I format the card using Terminal or Disk Utility?
As for starting new, I'd like to try to boot CM7 from the SD Card. Can someone point me to some recent instructions?
Not sure if you have to do any special steps for formatting the SD card. I would say that a simple format (using your PC) would suffice to get it working again. After all you are gonna write an image on it, which will change the partitions and do all kind of changes.
For the second part follow this

One word of advise, look carefully at the version of CM7 that you'll be installing and make sure to choose the correct gaps (market) version. Today I was reading that if you're flashing to the latest nighties also flash the latest 6/13 gapps.
