For some unknown reason after I press the power button to bring the phone back out of standby the screen is defaulting to the power save setting for the backlight (which means no backlight/dark screen) I have to goto the brightness setting under backlight and slide the bar back to the middle in order to light the screen. It never did this before and I did not change anything. It would just come back on tho the normal backlight setting (in the middle of the bar). If anyone knows why this would happen or if there is a setting in the reg I can do. Please help as I really do not want to do a hard reset and reload everything. I did do a soft reset, but it did not do anything.
Wish I could help. I have had that happen several times. Sometimes it clears itself up, last time I had to hard reset. I never did figure out what caused it...
Try searching, I know others have had the issue, too.
Hi guys...
I am as techy as the rest of yew, maybe more so, but I am having a problem understanding one thing about this phone. I know it is something very simple that I am missing, but I can't find anything about it anywhere in the docs, either?
How does the "auto power off" feature work? What I mean by this is, I know we can turn the power off after two minutes or whatever, but I see that the green GSM radio light is still flashing. That's good, that's what we want because we want to be able to receive calls.
The problem I am having is that after a time (I am guessing it is the two minutes?) I can't get the screen to come back on? What am I missing here? Is it me, or is it a bad phone? Auto power off seems to make the phone unuseable until a soft reset.
I tried pushing the power button, nothing. I tried HOLDING the power button, nothing. I tried pushing the TALK button, nothing.
Is the auto power off different than pushing the power button once and putting the device to sleep? What I want is the device to go to sleep after two minutes. I want to be able to use the phone again without doing a soft reset every time.
I know this is something easy, but I can't quite figure it out?

I've been having a similar issue with my 8125. I seem to also have a problem when I turn the device off. I've been trying to pinpoint the circumstances, but haven't had any luck as of yet.
Have you made any progress with this?
hold the power bottom for 3-5 seconds , there will apper a Yes/No dia.tap yes will real shut off. Not good at eng.But is it easy to understand ?
i had a similiar issue recently on a phone i had forever, turns out that i installed GPRS connection monitor that turned the backlight off on my phone... after hitting the power button to wake it up it appeared my screen was still off, so if i turned it at the right angle i could see my today screen.. meaning the backlight was off, i had to keep it at that angle and navigate into the setting menu to turn the backlight on.. i couldnt find a fix for it so i uninstalled the GPRS monitor and havent had the problem since
since a few days i've been trying to install some software on my wizard to use the led as a flashlight without using the camera mode. Though these applications did not work suddenly for some reasen my led's light turned on and I can't turn it off again. Even after a hard reset the thing is still burning and sucking my battery dry...
Only way i found so far to shut it down is to open the camera program, turn on the led (then it goes brighter) and turn it back off again. After a few seconds it just turns on again tough.
please someone help me!!!???
Today I noticed my hardware buttons aren't working(camera, red, green). I can't figure it out and it's making it super hard to use my phone. The lights on the buttons are also on full time. I can't do a hard reset because my buttons aren't working. Ive also tried installing other roms but i keep getting error 262 in the rom installer. Please help me guys.
Ok, I couldn't hard reset the phone, but I was able to reinstalled the bell 6.1 rom. THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. The lights on the buttons are still permenently lit, even if the phone is turned off. The red, green, camera buttoms DONT work. Please help me. I've tried leaving the battery out for 20 mins as well as countless soft resets
Same problem
I have the same issue, but my lights aren't staying on. the phone will sit there and i can turn it on, then i can't turn it off or use the hardware buttons. I'm curious as to what you have installed on the phone. I had an issue with the hard lights staying when i used google latitude in their maps application.
Do you have the new version of Skype installed? Vers. 3?
I have had the Touch 3G for nearly a year now and for the last 3 months I have had this recurring problem which is fixed with a hard reset but will recur again after about 6 weeks. The symptoms are:
1. When turning on, the backlight dims just before the HTC flash screen and startup sound (when it says "Smart Mobility")
2. Touching the screen doesn't bring the backlight back on.
3. Pressing the power button doesn't turn the screen off from this dimmed state, but after pressing touching the screen will turn the backlight back on.
4. Pressing the power button again will now turn off the screen, but pressing it again won't turn the screen back on! If I call it from another phone, the vibrator goes on but it doesn't ring, the screen stays off and you can't answer the call. If you hang up on the other phone it keeps vibrating and you need to do a soft reset to stop it.
If I do a hard reset the symptoms are gone and reinstalling the exact same software doesn't cause the problems immediately but withing a month or so it happens again. All I did just prior to these problems was use TomTom a bit more than usual, but otherwise nothing different. I have used TaskManager to see if there is anything weird running in the background but it all looks fine. I have had a cursory look through the registry but also can't find anything?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds like it's going all haywire. If you've had it less than a year, I'd send it in real quick. Sounds more like a hardware problem.
I don't think it is hardware as a hard reset fixes it...it just recurs down the track. I have done a hardrest and reinstalled all my apps and it is working great again but I was wondering if I should be checking somewhere in the registry for an aberrant setting. I am u using a backup image program so at least when it happen again I an restore my system more simply.
But then again, all the symptoms you mentioned point to a hardware defect. You could try to find a tweak, but like all electronic devices, it's the luck of the draw. Try emailing HTC and see what they say.
