Hi, I'm new here. Sorry as this is my first post.
But lately, I've encountered a problem with my XDA exec.
I always get text messages all the time, so I delete them. After a soft reset, the deleted messages come back.
All of my messages recieved and sent between the soft reset and that are gone.
I already tried waiting for an hour then soft reset, it still comes back.
Deleted the messages at the 'deleted messages' folder, still there.
I used Jeyo Mobile Companion to delete individual text messages, and it would still come back!
Also, my phone has a tendency to reboot by itself. As much as I dont want to turn off my phone or anything, I dont want to
I dont know what causes it, can you please tell me why?
The xda is my brother's but I'm using it. I dont want to ask him to fix or anything.
I also want to consider hard resetting but I dont know on which way it will erase everything. How much it will reset, and all of that.
Can you also tell me how much a hard reset will erase?
I really need help.
Thanks!
Welcome to forums
A hard reset will wipe all information sotred on your device, your SD card info will be intact (of course if you remove it before hard reset).
it will also help to clean all unnecessary files and apps you have installed so your device will perform much better.
It returns the device to it´s original state of the ROM.
All can be backed up before a hard reset, for example you can use PIM backup to save all your messages sent , recieved, etc.
Here how to hard reset:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Universal_Resets
Good luck,
Thing is, though. I also dont know how to install programs into the xda. I know I know, I should have used search..but I'm a busy student so I dont have time for that
I think the xda is in Windows 6.1, as well.
Won't it get any conflicts or problems with the phone if I hard reset it... as far as I can tell, my brother put and used a different software or ROM different from the 'original' one.
If I choose to hard reset, is there any way to back up the apps and the stuff my brother put? I will be in grave trouble if he founds out that I hard reset the phone and asking him for help when I'm just 'borrowing' his phone :]
No probelm doing hard reset with wm6.1
as I told you use the soft I recommended to back up your messages, for the apps check in start-settings-system-uninstall programs thelist of your installed apps, then let us know and we can point you to the right place to reinstall them.
it wont be any problem if you follow instructions, and your Bro will thank you when he notices better performance
It´s up to you mate,

As i tried switching my SIM with another one, to my surprise, i got a HARD RESET!!! Was that suppose to happen? I usually get a soft reset everytime i change SIM. What could have I done wrong?
Anyways, that's another issue. Fortunately, I backed up my data in my PC using ActiveSynch that day, however, unfortunately, as I was in the process of restoring it, I encountered errors. It says it cannot copy some files for they have been locked by some applications running in my PDA. I was so sure that no application was running then, I even soft reset it a few times just to be sure. Still it prompted for those errors. It includes my contacts, appointments, tasks, and some other databases. What could have been wrong in that scenario? Does it have any prerequisites before doing restoration? Coz it's now scaring me off even if i do backups everyday. It just doesn't restore everything. Please help on how I could prevent this kind of errors upon restoration. Thanks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=12149
look like you are not alone in having issues restoring contacts and such
Most likely the hard-reset was caused by the fact that you did not put your phone in flight-mode before changing SIMs.
Happened to me once . . .
There is a thread on it . . .somewhere
edsub,
I don't switch my pda to flight mode everytime i change SIM and I usually don't encounter hard resets, only soft resets. This is the only time i did encounter it that's why i was wondering coz everything i did was just the same as before.
rudegar,
i was having problem on restoration of *.stg file coz it doesn't seem to restore everything. i encounter errors at the last part of restoration process wherein it warns me that some database files (including contacts and appointments) cannot be copied to my pda coz they are being held by some applications that are currently running. And im sure that there's no application running then, i even did some few soft resets prior to it, just to make sure.
yes i had that thing where it give those errors and dont restore contacts and appointmens and such but it does always restore applications and files for me
then when i have restored i just sync the xda with outlook and i once more have my contacts and appointments
Thanks rudegar,
So you're saying that we currently don't have any resolution for that, just a workaround? Actually, I'm now having my pda sync with our exchange server just to make sure if ever that darn thing comes out again. Thanks so much, il try to as microsoft about this.
hi,
i'm having an odd problem. i am unable to do many things
1) sync with activesync. i can explore and transfer files to and from the device, but only as a guest, i cannot truly sync.
2) remove programs - the list is empty and i cannot remove anything
3) nothing new will install. when i send a cab over, and i try to install it, it will tell me that the installation was unsuccessful.
i belive this all started when an installation over activesync (tomtom) failed, though i am not sure.
i have rebooted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled activesync, soft-resetted my 8125, tried serial/rndis. nothing seems to work.
the pda is usable right now, from what i can tell. the programs that are already on there work fine. its syncing that is all messed up.
thanks for any help you can give.
and i have managed to fix it, in a fashion
1) make a full backup (except for the sd card) with sprite backup. (i made this backup while i was having these problems)
2) hard reset, let ext rom run
3) restore from backup
everything seems to work, so i can say that i'm happy with it
norelidd, I had your exact same problem last night. Active sync was uploading a CAB file onto the device and I pressed cancelled. No big deal I thought because it cancelled during the uploading process. When I tried to sync it later, nothing worked except for the "explore" files option. I wasn't able to sync, remove, install or even change my today theme. The device itself still functioned normally, made calls normally and got on Cingular's EDGE fine. Just wouldn't sync or install/remove or change the today theme.
I performed several soft resets, deleted any files files on the device created within the last hour of my previous sync incase anything was corrupted, nothing worked. Only solution, I finally bit the bullet and did a hard reset. :x Reinstalled everything and it works fine after the hard reset.
my mini s wont install cab files from the file explorer. you see, ive recently been admitted to hospital (dislocated hip from a rugby tackle, 4 weeks on traction ) and thought i'd download some games to play. but ive tryed downloading loads of different cab files, as obviously i dont have access to my pc, but when i click on them, nothing happens. any ideas??
This has happened to me twice
I am having the same problem. I thought it was an activesync problem but the first time it happened I was installing .cab files and there was a problem with the install. I had to fix the problem with a hard reset.
My problem now is that I just loaded a whole bunch of programs and I was looking for a good back up program but I do NOT have one on my 8125 yet. How can I back up my programs (or can I) if I must do a hard reset. Is there any way of fixing this problem without doing a hard reset?
Please help!
Thanks.
Still looking for help...
I am really trying to avoid a hard reset. Can anyone help us with this problem? I am thinking it may have been caused by installing programs designed for PPC 2003 and not WM5. But who really knows with microsoft.
Thanks!

Hi again!
Just did the hard reset, but I found out a way to backup my PIM data.
Just copied the PIM.vol file that is on the root of the PDA and then, after the hard reset, restored the file. Done!
Best regards,
Deiota
I'll try it - thanks!
I did the hard reset and everything (except syncing through the exchange server is working). I will copy the file over. I am going to install the backup program first. It seems that my problems came from installing third party programs to the minisd card.
ARrrrrrrrrrrrr I have the same problem, canceled an install from activesync during the file upload...
I still don't see why this would cause an issue because the file had not started the install yet but obviously it has done somthing that I don't know how to fix... does any one know what the device does on a WM5 system when an app tries to get installed? is there a way to reset what ever it has changed?
Many thanks
JFC
This is the exact same problem, as I described here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=57461
It is a problem with policies getting screwed up all by themselves.
I just had to do a hard reset and as I didn't have enough permissions neither a backup app, I've lost ALL my data.
I hope I won't have the same problem in the future.
Same problem for me last week. I obviously had to hard reset...

Get yourself a registry editor and make sure that your Policies (on HKLM\Security\Policies\Policies\ ) are exactly like these:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=13422
This is probably the only thing that can prevent us from a hard reset.
I had the same problem on my HTC Mogul (Titan, Sprint PPC-6800).
1.) Before I started, I made a backup with SPB Backup, after I had my problems, but before importing a clean policies registry from another Mogul.
2.) I imported the file, but that didn't seem to help, so I thought maybe there might be some new policies that weren't there before, so I was going to rename the old policies tree, and then re-import the file. BAD IDEA. As soon as I renamed the tree, Windows Mobile kicked me out and required me to set a device password. It wouldn't run any applications or communicate with Activesync saying I didn't have enough permission. Nor could I re-run Resco Registry Editor.
3.) Someone else here said that he made a Sprite backup after the problems, did a hardware reset then restored, and it solved his problems. That didn't make sense to me, but I did have that newly created SPB Backup image, and my PDA at this point was pretty useless. So I hard reset and restored the image of my device and all the problems are now gone! I don't understand why, but I'm glad it's working.
Conclusion:
If I didn't have backup software already preloaded I would have been screwed, because when my PDA got initially messed up one of the symptoms was that I couldn't install any new applications. I should do backups more often, but the fact that it takes 20+ minutes makes it a unfun process.
I did a hard reset, put everything back on, but I can not find or create a MMS account or folder.
Any Idea?
10x
Ugh. That happened to me, and I did a hard reset to get it back....
Funnyy thing is that I have had it before, but after hard reset there is non.
As I recall, when I first turned on device I had the same problem, but this is nonsense.
Solution
Ok, With fit4cat twik I unlocked the extended rom , where the MMS*.cab file was, so I just run it and MMS here they come.
Just in case somebody needs it.
As I'm trying to get rid of the MMS folder without a hard reset, I'd be curious to know what you did to make it go away in the first place... any ideas?
Can't say really, I think when I hard reset the device it did not install from extended rom, so mayne you can delete it from extended rom and then hard reset.
But save the file in case you will need it later.
I uninstalled Office from my phone with WM6 but the folder is still in the Program list. How do I get rid of it? ?And there is two calanders, I haven't installed anything yea, anyone know how to get rid of them?
clear temp
use clear temp application
hopefuly it will help u
it clears bad or unused registry entries
Didn't work , I still have the Office folder and the two calander programs.
You know of a WM6 ROM that has ONLY the WM6 stuff nothing at all extra?
reset!!
have u done soft reset after clear temp?
No, how do I do that?
reset
re-start ur device Buddy!
Soft resetted it but they are all still there. Will hard resetting it bring it back to the way it was when the ROM was installed?
definetly!
Any other ideas then? Or could you point me towards a really stripped down version of WM6 or one that works real good?
but remember to remove storage card n backup ur contacts etc. before hard reset!
I only installed the ROM tonight so I have nothing on there so no need to backup.
I have the same problem with xplodes 6.13.00 ROM, its worked perfectly for around 3 weeks now. Its brilliant work.Although i have more than one icon in my programs list. e.g two file explorers, two camera's
try using 3trd party software for clean, i'm using SKTools its remove duplicate shortcut, empty folder etc.
I have been running d-two's rom for a while now and it is working great for me. Last night I tried to connect to live messenger and it went a bit crazy. Now it will only get to the today screen and then it hangs. I am looking around the site for a solution but I just wanted to ask here as well..
I know a hard reset will get me going again, problem is some text messages from last night that I really really dont want to lose.
I think it may be relatedto xpuscaler, but I dont really know. Activesync will not connect
The ideas I think may help me are:
1. can i use something like tty to get into the machine and either take the sms and contacts file or remove xpuscaler from the startup?
2. Can i use the clean registry without the format storage option from the hard reset menu? would this destroy my contacts and sms?
Please help
sim cards can store messages and as far as i know windows mobile (2k2 & 2k3) saves contacts to the sim card. check it in another phone if the stuff is stored there and if it is HR or reflash your unit.
1. as far as i know, there is no way to access files or folders remotely unless the device is fully booted, so, no mtty, no accessing in bootloader mode
2. yes you can use that option, that is a pretty good idea actually, because while the registry might contain startup information, it does not contain your sms or contacts.
another thing is, always keep your contacts synced, so they can never be the issue, and for sms, i recommend either to sync them too, or regularly make a backup with pimbackup, of course, this advise does not help you right now, but it might avoid issues like this in the future. since we are not carrying around normal phones like nokia, SE, ... and play around with custom roms, we must always be ready to perform a hard reset.
but back to the topic, unfortunately, the BA offers no "Safe Mode", as known of windows pcs, so avoiding the startup. you can try tricking the BA to do something else first, if the registry clearing does not work, you could put an extrom to your SD card and maybe the extrom startup will be first. maybe an extrom containing the same or a newer version of xcpuscalar will uninstall the current version and install the new version with the standard settings, and since the extrom shuts down everything else, it might just work.
and kind as i am, i actually built an extrom for you, just unzip and copy to the sd card, if it does not work, rename the folder from EXTROM to 2577 and it will work.
here you have the download link, it's pretty small: http://rapidshare.com/files/335389705/EXTROM.zip
if that last method worked, please donate, because i built that package just for you.
Thanks Chef,
I am having a go with your extrom now..
In the time since last post I have been able to get it working at the today screen but nothing will load.. maybe 520mhz made the processor die? have been running at full speed for a few weeks now..
You are right about the backup, I usually have pimbackup automated to backup to my sd everyday, but I hadnt got around to it since I installed this ROM. Typical luck! I wouldnt really care but I have some important sms that I need to recover..
@ares93 unfortunatly I dont save to my sim card as I have too many contacts to do that. And I dont think my sim could store my four years of sms that I seem to still have...
Will post more as it goes...
Well unfortunately the extrom didnt help so I bit the bullet and did a registry clean from the hard reset menu. It now boots and I have removed lots of apps to try to get rid of any clashes.. at the moment It appears to be completely normal until you try to run anything. mshome is working smoothly, the start menu is working, some settings panels will load, but I cant get it to run anything..
anyone seen this before?
Does anyone know if i can take a complete image of the device at this state and restore it later after i start really messing with things
Does anyone know if i can take a copy of the files on it and just restore the entire sms database after a hard reset?
I will think about how I can donate, its about time i did...
In the end a hard reset didnt work, so I reflashed and its all running smooth, lost some important documents, but it was all i could do.
lesson learned, remember to schedule back ups for everyday to sd
that's what i was talking about, pimbackup is great for that, you can find it here: http://www.dotfred.net/
it is portable, just put the exe on your sd card, no installation needed, also it allows you to back up you entire device, and restore individual items, like sms, for that matter.
if you want to make a full backup that would completely restore your device after a hard reset, with all settings, programs...
you should try SPB backup. there is a trial version at http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/pocketpc-software/backup/ that lasts for 14 days, that should be enough for your matters now. the only thing you need to know about spb backup is: you cannot restore a backup on another rom because it also saves the entire windows folder and that varies from rom to rom.
pimbackup, however can make universal backups that can be restored on other roms, other windows mobile versions from wm2003 to wm6.5.3, even other windows mobile based devices.
