Does anyone in here know if it is possible to chance / edit / remove words from the XT9 dictinoray which is used on HTC's "keyboards" ? . I am talking about both userbased And the once's predifined by HTC.
Untouched unrooted HTC Magic.
If its not possible, does anyone know how and where i can request this feature?
i have asked this question in a couple of different forums with no luck.
unfortunately there is still no solution as far as accessing/changing word in the dictionary...still patiently waiting tho
Too bad really want it without restoring my Magic to factory defaults.
I hope they fix it.. Does anyone know where i can request this feature?
Waiting too...

Just subscribed to this thread as I also need to change/delete a lot of words in the directory.
I hope that someone will be able to fix this soon.
Cheers!
How about doing this with a ROOTED device?
OMGod!!
Ok after adding far too many useless words into the HTC keyboard dictionary when drunk, my keyboard seemed to be very slow at catching up with my typing especially. Sooooo, I decided to do a full wipe out and install a new ROM (the new European one)...
BUT!!!!...
Wait and behold, everything was wiped out APART from the words in the T9 dictionary!!! They had disappeared at first and the keypad was a amazing to use and kept up with my typing... But after a couple of reboots (no restore from nandroid or anything still clean) somehow they just show up still on there and the phone keypad is now sloooow again?!! I mean what the hell??! Has anyone had this problem?
Does this mean that maybe the dictionary is saved on the SD card (which I VERY much doubt?!) as it's the only thing that has not been wiped out...
Any ideas? Much appreciated....
ps. I'm using a Vodafone UK HTC Magic with the new European firmware (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532902)
The files listed in this thread have the dictionary words in them, but deleting them doesn't clear the dictionary. Somehow the files are recreated with the added words.

Hello!
I got my HTC TyTN a week ago and it works very well so far.
It was a good thing to change my old Nokia 3650 with the new TyTN,
specially with the QWERTY keyboard AND touchscreen.
But to the probs: the first prob is that sometimes if the phone runs on
the battery it happens that the phone cant be reactivated by pressing the powerbutton... only a softreset can help.
A other prob is, that the MMS-function is missing completely. If I go to "esseging -> Menu -> Extras -> Options" (i hope its named that way in the english version of WM5, using the german version here) I only find "*SMS,
POP3, New Account" there, but not MMS. The HTC-support only suggested a
hardreset. I did that and after that the MMS-function was there... but right after I restored the backup it was again gone (used Sprite Backup). :|
Beside those hardware-probs I got stuck with something else: where do I get
updates? HTC said I get the updates on my providers website, so I called my
mobilephone-provider(Eplus Germany), they said I bought my phone over they but its not branded and because of that they dont have any updates for me and I get the update from HTC... so what do I do now?
Btw: the only thing I noticed after the hardreset was that the phone already
had the Eplus MMS-profile but as far as I can see nothing more related to the provider... is there any specific way to find out if the phone got some branding?
And what about the ROM-updates here, as far as I know the updates here on the site are only in english, nothing with german? And where I can find the bootloader-version? The info that comes in red letters (B for Bootloader?) over the HTC-logo on the device-start? If, There is: B:06 ... is that good or bad?
Sorry for asking possible dumb questions, but I want to be sure before I
mess with the upates.
kind regards!
Oh I forget something: what about http://www.delphin-homepage.de/tytn/DeviceData.txt ? Is the file broken? I didnt opened it on
the TyTN. Looks like some information is missing?
hm... no help, no idea?
the only help i can be is to confirm that I have also had the problem of missing MMS in Messaging. Like you, I have also discovered once I restore from a backup (I am using SPB not sprite) the MMS is gone and I have loked everywhere but no way to get it back or re-enable except hard reset and re-installation
I am a noob so please don't jump all over me if it do this wrong or post in the wrong place. That being said and out of the way:
I am living in korea and bought my X1 a few days ago. I don't read korean to well so i flashed an english rom to it. Everything seems to work fine except the messageing service. I can send sms out but i can't get any responces.
I know that SKT uses it's own sms service or something like that...
So my question is: Is there a way to change only the language of the OS and leave eveything else the same?
I would like to keep the stuff that came with the Korean rom (sms service, korean dictionary the panels, etc.) just put the OS in english.
I'm in the same boat and I'd be much obliged if you could say what you found out, or if anyone else can offer some advice.
I bought the X1 in Korea. I love the phone, but like a lot of people here, I wanted an English language ROM. The problem is, like both of you guys have stated, MS-SMS doesn't work properly here. Sending works fine, but you cannot receive any messages.
After a lot of fiddling around, I think the problem has to do with the rilphone.dll file in the Windows directory. The solution is to extract the rilphone.dll file from the stock KOREAN rom and overwrite the file in the English rom. The problem with this is that with most of the downloadable custom roms, once you replace the file, the phone radio stops working, and you get no service at all. Perhaps the solution is to build a custom ROM and cook the rilphone.dll file from the Korean ROM into the custom ROM, but I don't have the skills or time to do it.
I actually got it working on a very old custom ROM, but the ROM itself was buggy and crappy so I ditched it. I think just overwriting the file in the old ROM worked because it didn't have any signed cert built in.
Anyway, I would also love to be able to solve this problem. I actually can read Korean, but the Korean ROM is super bloated with SK Telecom's crappy software and it is very slow.
EDIT: I would even be willing to pay someone a reasonable amount of money to solve this problem. I can provide the Korean rilphone.dll file too!
Does anyone have any advice??? Please???
Honestly I would pay as well. From what I can tell, the most "advanced" phones over here are the Xperia, the Omnia, and the Haptic 2. I can only assume the Omnia will have the exact same problems as the Xperia (being another WinMo phone) and I'm not really eager about the Haptic 2 since I can't seem to find any information at all about it (reviews, forums, addons, extensions, etc etc etc).
I misspoke earlier when I said I was in the same boat; I haven't yet bought a phone, but I'm in the market. I was just at a few shops yesterday messing around with these phones. And not being able to receive texts is (or alternately, not having an English OS) is a deal breaker.
I had this problem as well, except mine was receiving chinese text messages. What you have to do is go into the sms area and click Tools>Options.
It takes you to the screen with all your accounts. Tap on the SMS/MMS and you should check the "use unicode when necessary" box.
That's how I solved that problem
Unfortunately, with the current OS and SK Telecom network, the solution is not that simple. There is a group of Korean guys at a Korean Xperia forum working feverishly to solve this problem, and I understand they have made some progress. But the fix is still a long way off. The people here are probably more experienced and skilled at WinMo.
Yeah, Koream carriers have been deploying their own proprietary text mechanisms.
Long story short, there is a way you can use a cooked ROM with some helps from local hackers. It's a project to incorportate local carrier's structure into the old, good, usual MS-SMS.
http://cafe.naver.com/bjphone/232334
1. delete mms_filter.lnk from your startup folder
2. apply x1-mssms.cab
That's it.

Thanks for that link and the info. Does that mean that I can flash a custom English ROM, apply those two steps and be able to send and receive SMS in Korea?
SMS problem in Korea
Hi guys,
I found out this problem after i bought the X1 and changed the ROM to english, to sum up i am in the **** as you....
I am also ready to pay a reasonnable money to whom will find a solution to this problem. Friends sent me so many messages but they are still waiting for my reply...hehe
Please write me if any news, i am still searching on french, korean and english websites...
Thanks!
Korea is a great country, and very technologically advanced. But they seem to make it very difficult for foreigners. In the process, they also unintentionally make it difficult for their own citizens, because most Koreans I know would prefer to use MS-SMS over the crappy, slow, bloated SKT application.
In my case, I don't even need to be able to send SMS in Korean, although that would be great. As long as I could send English SMS, and receive and read English and Korean SMS, that would be fine. I'm hoping there will be a solution to this stupid problem soon.
Other than this issue, however, I love the X1. I recently bought an Omnia and it was OK, but when I found out the X1 was released in Korea, I ditched the Omnia immediately and bought the X1
Correct. I applied it today and am quite happy with it.
Please note it's still beta though.

Thanks for the response. Could you tell me which ROM you installed?
I'm still using the factory ROM, only changed SKT-SMS with MS one.
Other people who cooked their own ROM seemed to be okay.

Oh my God!! It worked! Thank you very much. There are still some bugs, but the functionality is there, so that's all I can ask for now.
Palmwangja, 감사합니다!
Unfortunately, although I can receive messages now, the characters are all square blocks, even with the Unicode setting checked. Any ideas?
EDIT: Just not working right. Even after installing Korean language support, for some strange reason, if someone sends me an SMS in English, I can receive the message but I get the square blocks as text. Can't receive Korean messages at all. Back to square one.
Can someone please upload x1-mssms.cab to rapidshare or email it to me?
I can't seem to login to the Naver board to download the file...I would really appreciate it!
UPDATE 1: Got the file. Thanks anyway. We'll see how the install goes. About to run on stock Korean ROM.
UPDATE 2: Seems to work fine on stock Korean ROM. Haven't tried MMS yet. The author of this hack appears to have posted a list of bugs with this first beta (including possible problems when sending/receiving messages while roaming) and indicates that he will post a second beta (which will probably be the final) soon.

The hack works fine on the stock Korean ROM. I tried it. I want to use MS-SMS, but the more important thing for me is using an English ROM. The hack doesn't work correctly in the English ROM, even after hacking the registry, linking fonts, etc. I can read Korean fine, but the Korean ROM really sucks. It is just slow and bloated.

Rogatsby, this is a pared-down Korean ROM...
Hope you will like it. quite fast, no additional garbage. ms-sms hack works greatly.
Dunno what happened, I've updated with the latest 2 ROM updates (office enhancements and notifications enhancements) for my phone, but I seem to have lost the numbers from my full QWERTY keyboard.
I can get numbers by pressing and holding the letter keys, but by pressing ".,123" I only get 8 keyboards to choose from, and none have any numbers.
In the main this isn't a prob, except if you're in contacts when you can only enter a number, but the keyboard won't let you.
I've used HD tweak in the past, but not for T9 input.
I've since uninstalled the 2 ROM updates and the keyboard hasn't changed.
The forums have loads of cases of being stuck in number mode, but none where the keyboard won't allow numbers.
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers!
Just found a similar experience with the ROM updates.

Guess we'll have to wait to one of you clever people to work this one out.
Thanks!
Strangely, I have the same symptom after the above mentioned hotfixes. Unfortunately, uninstalling the hotfix doesn't help and having a hard reset is not an option that I'm looking at right now. I've already escalated this to the HTC support and waiting for them to release a fix. In the meanwhile, I'll either use the compact QWERTY or use the Full QWERTY without the numbers tab
Hi there,
Same here, after install the latest fixes from the website I only have 8 keyboard pages while using FULL QWERTY. The numbers page has dissappeared.
Uninstalling the 2 fixes did NOT recover this problem.
I also want to avoid a HARD RESET.
Any clever ideas.

Menno
Hi There,
I have since logged a fault with HTC and they have investigated and just called me back.
The advice is that I will have to reflash (sigh!) the device with a new ROM which will apparently be available from their support site later today/tonight(?).
In fact, the site had been taken down as I am typing this.
Let's see what happens.
Regards
M
I called HTC Support again and I was told that they're aware of this issue and working on another HotFix which might take 2 weeks or 2 months..Damn..
In the meantime, try using Fingerkeyboard 2.1 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=501122
IMO, much better than HTC's effort.
I personally don't bother with most of HTC hotfixes as they can cause issues, especially if your using cooked roms. Remember, before you install any hotfix always do a backup first!!!
Only solution I can think of is a hard reset as I'm not aware of any reg fixes etc. Do a backup of contacts/emails etc beforehand

Problem sorted (somehow)
After installing the same Hotfix, the numbers also disapeared from my full Querty keyboard. HTC told me to do a hard reset (not a chance!).
Been serching forums and sites for days and have "accidently" fixed the problem. Not sure what part fixed it but I'll go through what I did and maybe it will work for you too. I must mention that I'm not that tech advanced at all.
I downloaded and installed fingerkeyb-20-wvga.cab (size 582kb). Checked that it was working fine. Checked full Querty, no luck.
Then downloaded and installed HTC_Keyboard__Keypad_MULTILANGUAGE.CAB (size 1912kb) after searching for an Ezinput keyboard for HTC Touch file ezinput.dll.0409. I found this file after going through the system files on the unit and finding two folders (ezinput and ezinput.dll.0409). It didn't display well so I uninstalled it. Checked full Querty and bingo, numbers back!!
I found both CAB files in the XDA forums.
Hope this helps.

As far as I am concerned, I now have FingerKeyb 2.1 and that'll do me nicely.

Same here...
Great Hotfixes...
I´ve just contacted the support and waiting for reply.
I´ll keep you informed.
Have the same problem and uninstalling the hot fixes doesn't bring back the numbers 'tab' either. Does anyone know which actual 'Hot-Fix' created this problem - the Office Mobile Enhancement (BLAS00369) update or the Notifications Enhancement update (BLAS00349)?
At least can still access the numbers by holding and pressing the relevant buttons with the letters on, but not ideal.
Looks like will have to await a fix
HTC answered that I have an O2 rom and they are not resposible if those Hotfixes will not work with the original O2 rom.
They recommend a hard reset.
On the other hand they will help customers with the same problem with the original HTC rom...

Hello!
Sorry if this has been asked and answered but I searched for it and could not find any info, although I swear I read a post about it the other day.
Anyway, where can I get the HTC IME with the Text to Speech function? Im on Tainted Vanilla and want to add that IME to it..
thanks.
I posted this the other day but it didn't seem like anyone cared.
-
I took the HTC_IME keyboard with voice input from the leaked myTouch Slide ROM and to my surprise it worked on the Eris. The only problem I've noticed is the user dictionary will crash when you try to open it. If someone would like to fix it that would be great.
While I think you're better off with jonasl's HTC_IME mod I think some people may prefer this.
Download HTC_IME-vi.zip (mirrors)
Download HTC_IME-vi-undo.zip (mirrors)
Copy HTC_IME-vi.zip to your sdcard and flash it as you would any other zip.
Flash HTC_IME-vi-undo.zip to get rid of this keyboard and go back to the default HTC_IME.
I don't know what will happen if you use this on a ported Hero or other custom ROM. I can tell you that it works on a plain rooted ROM.

That's the default message you see when you install a keyboard. You'll see the same thing if you try Swype. But don't install if you're not comfortable
