hi guys. i have a cingular 8525 that ive had for probably about a year now. i think im slightly over the warranty but i may be just under it. not sure.
my 8525 has been giving me TONS of problems recently (probably right after the warranty was over, if it is lol) which is just my luck.
i got the red light several times. often times it refuses to charge anymore. and now since yesterday the speaker on the phone stops working randomly.
not just the loudspeaker but the speaker in the handset itself as well, so basically all sound stops, and no its not muted.
anyways i went into a radioshack store and noticed one of the guys working there had the new tilt. he said he got it by returning his 8525 under warranty and they gave him a new one, the tilt.
now, obviously getting a free tilt would be awesome, but at this point id be just as happy if they still replace my current phone. i would like the tilt though lol. anyways, here is the problem.
a few months ago, a friend of mine dropped my phone. the loudspeaker stopped working, and hence no sound was working on my phone. so i opened up the phone and found out that the plug had simply come undone. i found that out from this site. so obviously now my phone is out of warranty it no longer has the void sticker.
does anyone have any help or tips to help? im seriously considering trying to find some sort of void sticker to replace it. but i doubt that would work. would htc take the phone anyway? i dont know. id be afraid to get charged for another phone cuz i have no money right now because of college books etc.
any help as soon as possible would be MUCH appreciated, because i think my warranty is up any day if it isnt already.
thanks guys.
im guessing no one has a reply on this?
It sounds like you're out of luck man. I say it's one thing to upgrade or modify software on a phone, etc, because you can easily restore it before returning it, but it sounds like you're looking for methods to deceive the phone company. That's not cool. So that you don't put yourself in a situation of getting charged like $500 for returning a crapped out phone, look for a used one or something? Some of the things that they look for upon processing a returned phone is the VOID sticker, battery connectors, and any apparent physical damage caused by drops, etc. Don't do it! I'm sure you have several phones sitting around that you can pop your SIM card into to get you by?
well hey im not trying to deceive them in a bad way. so dont get me wrong here. its just that all i did when i opened the phone was plugged the speaker part back in, nothing else. that was several months ago. everything was fine until the past month when the phone started going downhill.
either way, i contacted att they put me through the warranty department, etc. i told them the void sticker came off. theyre sending a replacement phone, and i should get it by the end of the week. how to i restore the os's software? i am aware of downgrading back to att's wm5 version but is that all i need to do? would i need to change any radios, spl versions, etc?
thanks for the help.
oh yea and theyre sending me just another 8525. no tilt.... oh well haha.

Since when was deception EVER done in a good fashion??
Probably fall on deaf ears anyway since youve got a replacment 8525, lesson to learn here is the VOID sticker really is there for a reason.
um ok whatever. i dont see why i am getting bashed over this when you can find things such as this and more on this site. so we are too guilty to decieve htc over something simple as a speaker plug coming undone, but guilt free when tricking att into using there mediamax plan for basic phones as opposed to there pda plan, because it costs more?
funny that. and the best part is thats not even the sneakiest of things ive come across on these forums. but ok whatever. heh.
all im saying is its one thing because the speaker came unplugged. now if i had tried to completely replace a part, or tweaked with something in the phone itself, rather than just push the plug back in so i originally would not have to bother with a warranty exchange and go through all the trouble. i havent even had the phone for a year yet and its as of recent been going to ****.
but yea.....im a deceptive, lying cheating theiving bastard.
oh yea. and one more thing......given even if i was some sort of a con artist from this.....does htc video drivers come to mind? where as htc makes phones more expensive than an iphone (kaiser) but with the functionality of something of less than half the power? and im the theif? ok.
heh
Chill out man. This is an awesome board with tons of good information, and not some forum to go back and forth. I think all we were trying to say is next time as much as it sucks to do it, just get the warranty replacement. Enjoy your new phone.
im not sure if you received your replacement yet. But when you send your old phone into the warranty department they will check to see if the phone has been opened. The first thing they can check is the screws themselves they will show tampering. But also just when you think you have pulled one over on them you. you get a letter in the mail saying they are billing your account $450 due to your physical damage and tampering with the phone. They wont send your old phone back and you will get your next att bill and it will be $450 dollars higher than you expected. im not saying this will happen but i would watch out for this.
and if you really want to cheat warranty exchange. Do a warranty replacement wait a couple of days after the phone gets there and then call them up and say were is my phone. There policy is to ship out another right away. They will ask some questions but nothing serious and yes will ship out another phone right away. I know this not because i have done it but because i worked for att for 2 years in both csr and tech support.
well thanks for the info. i did not know there was a difference between warranty exchange and warranty replacement they both sound the same to me. anyways i believe the replacement is the one i did, as they sent me a refurbished phone, not a new one, and if thats what some were thinking i really did not care whether it was new or not, just a replacement phone. as for the screws i couldnt see any tampering evidence, the paint all remains intact. im usually pretty careful when it comes to screwing and unscrewing things. lol lets just hope i dont "Screw" myself haha.
oh and i was chill. i was just finding it funny that i was being directed as a theif by the comments. like i said its one thing for a simple plug but its not like i replaced the speaker or tweaked with something.
is the speaker plug easy to find, i had teh same problem dropped it and i can hear it when i shake it, its loose...but im worried its deeper than i can get to
I bought a HTC P3600 in May 2008. In December 2008, the device freezes suddenly. i removed the battery and reinsert it. The device starts, but no output on Touch Screen... i shipped it to a service partner in austria for warranty repair, but they told me, the device was opend in the past. I had never opend the device. today, i received a call from the dealer, but they can't help me... So i will now put it in the Lawyer's hand.
htc... never again.
Thats a real shame buddy. Its more of a customer service problem than a device problem though from what you have said.
I have played around with my Trinity so much since I got it and it has never let me down. No matter how dumb and reckless I have been with it, this forum has always given me the info to get it going again lol.
Good luck with resolving your problem buddy.
htc not as bad
i nearly trashed mine until i decided to be a gadget freak and played around with mine and voila i got a better device than first thought all i can say is you on the right site chattin to the rite people dont loose heart
Hey, long time lurker, first time poster..I think...may have posted before, I forget..
The point?
Oh yeah where was I.
So I walk into my local sprint store(small kind, not a repair center) to get a case for my Hero. I strike up a conversation with the two guys working there after the show the only Hero case they have and how ghastly it looks. Sprint guy A see my phone and in pure phonefanboyism freaks out and it went a little like this:
Sprint Guy A "ZOMGZ you have froyo one that thing!!!!! how did you get that!!!!??"
Me "um, well it's CyanogenMod, custom firmware"
Sprint guy B "So you voided your warranty instead of buying an Evo?"
Me "no, and no?"
Sprint guy A "How would I go about doing this *pulls out his Hero*"
Sprint guy B "Yeah actually, I'm kinda interested in this"
Me "you guys seriously don't know how to do this?"
Both Sprint guys "no."
Long story short they let me use the computer there to install CM6.0 on both phones.
I'm worries me that sprint employees would know even the basics of at least being able to reflash a backup or even have heard of the Android SDK.
this stuff doesn't void your warranty anymore. sprint techs are idiots anyways.

So..you expected some super geeks to be working there ?
Seriously..that is like expecting one of BB high school kids to know anything about whatever department they happen to be walking through.
I've found the vast majority of folks don't have a clue about what can be done to these phones..so I wouldn't expect someone at a non-repair center to have much insight on how to do these things either..Most of the kids working at the stores know how to send a phone off to be repaired by someone else..and the rest ,how to give wrong information to the customer, course most phone stores are like this now-a-days anyhow..not only Sprint.

I always amaze the sprint peeps when im up there.. kinda like going to best buy friday.. My wife needed a cheap laptop for nursing school.. they kept pushing those crappy netbooks..then the warranties.. then add virus this and that, etc.. Im like go so mad.. I told that lady.. hey we will take this crappy laptop thats on sale..she doesnt want a netbook.. and everything else u can keep... she got mad.. I was like she only needs the laptop.. dont need a stupid warranty nor your stupid geek squat!!!thats a waste of money... She was like well what will u do when i breaks.. I will ah u know fix it.lol
Same thing goes for sprint people in the store.. that dont know crap... the evo will do this and that. Im like true but why when my hero does everything i want it to!!! oh. your still on the old ass hero.lol etc.. some people I tell ya..
point is.. dont buy from stupid people, lol hahah ok sorry rant over.. meds have kicked in..
My understanding of the new law that was passed is..
Carriers can't withhold unlock codes for your devices. Hacking or disrrupting the software otherwise beyond the code will void the warranty. Which is why if you call up and ask for the MSL (i think, not sure what the name was for it) they will just give it to you.
Edit: After reading some posts, seems like it will void your warranty with HTC. otherwise sprint doesn't care.

While Sprint doesn't care, it does still void warranty with Sprint. Root your phone we don't cover you. Just like a car, modify it and warranty is voided. It would be silly for a company to try and warranty each and every single home manufacture modification.... they would lose millions replacing phones

You went into a Sprint store to complain about lack of Froyo for the Hero? I woulda hated you're ass.
it all depends on what tech you get and what store you go to. ive had techs show me their custom roms before. most are tech geeks like us, they don't give a ****. now if i were to send my phone back to sprint i would run the RUU. and believe it or not sprint knows very well about xda and the good work that goes on here. **** htc should hire some of ours guys.
From what I've read about the recent library of congress ruling all that changed was it is no longer illegal to jailbreak our devices. It was previously a crime under the DMCA to jailbreak our phones, and your phone manufacturer/service provider could sue you for jail breaking or rooting. (A bunch of BS if you ask me!)
While it is now legal to root/jailbreak you might still be violating the warranty or your carriers terms of service. I've read that Sprint was cracking down on people that rooted and installed the wireless tethering app. (also more BS if i'm paying for wireless data, then let me F*ing use it!)
</soapbox>
im a sprint employee, luckily for me i do know this however what they teach you at these things solely based on what the guy above you that trained you knows...in most of these cases they dont know much away from what they read in the manuals...once in a while you get a savvy employee such as myself that knows more than what they teach you...if it wasnt for the fact that the guy running my center has been with sprint for 11 years and doesnt want a corporate job i think i would run that center but thats a different story involving politcs....long story short...it depends which store and who you speak to..
I didn't complain. I went in wanting to but the tech/sales guy I talked to wanted all the info about getting froyo on his hero. I hooked him up and pointed him to xda. He was scared he was going to brick his phone. I told him just follow the instructions and you'll be fine. Should go back up they and see how he did.
Sent from my Hero running cm6 9/6/ nightly build. Blackmod, circle battery. D3cadence uncapped # 11. Sprint can lick my balls. Thank darch and cyanogen for setting my hero free!
I concur w/ micavez07. I work at a sprint kiosk and some of the people I work with would look at you cross-eyed if you brought a hero in running live wallpaper. I personally use a hero running cm6 as my daily phone.
I almost started a new thread, but then decided my story wasn't quite funny enough to get it's own thread, so here it is:
Phone broke about a month ago. The screen's colors suddenly went all wacky. When I touched the screen it was even worse. Tried a few different resets, nothing worked. Finally took it in this morning to the local Sprint store. I pay for the TEP. They take my phone into the back room and a bit later a guy comes out and says that there is no water damage, so they can replace it for free. They say it'll take about a week before they get my new phone and that they'll call when it comes in. They then give me my phone back. I turn back on my phone and get in my car to go to work. Phone starts making that beeping sound that says it's coming in and out of service. Then it finally decides that I have no service and I get the circle with the bar slash through it. So i turn it on and off, take out the battery, even do a factory reset. Finally I call the Sprint store and ask them what they did to my phone. It ends up they disconnected my attena when they were checking to see about water damage. Now I get to go back to the store on my lunch. Pretty funny, right?
Actually, I'm not laughing.....should i try to get a credit or something for the inconvience?

Ok, i realy dont care if this topic will be deleted or not, but i like to share my experience with my beloved HD2.
Im brazilian and cause of that, im destined to pay a lot of money for devices that cost not SO much in us or europe. For example, ive purchased my hd2 for more or less 750,00 us dollars. It was a lot of money for me, im student and live with a tiny scholarship.
Here in brazil htc is almost totally unknown and sell few devices. The HD2 was never sold officially here, so i imported it. The three first months with it were wonderful. I bought it because its capacibility to boot multi os, customization is essential for me (ios sucks cause of this) and the capacity to run winmo AND android conviced me.
I was online when cotulla post the magldr (30/12) and i was so happy to finally be able to flash android roms and later wp7.
I'm not sure when it started but my device began to show some wierd problems. I remember being using it and suddenly it restarted. And when it restarted it took some resets to be able to boot again. It froze many many times and got hot in the area of mainboard (In some cases it was not so hot, arount 38 ºC). I tried flashing other android roms, wp7, winmo roms and even uninstalling magldr/hspl and flash back the stock rom, but neither works.
So i had two alternatives: Send my phone to us HTC, which could take months to get it back and be subject to high shipping rates or send it to a local technical assistance and lost my warranty with htc. I chosed the second alternative. The phone went two weeks for technical assistance. When I got it back I was informed that they could not fix it. So, after 2 more days trying to make it work correctly I GAVE UP. I spent many of my summer vacation nights trying to this but no more.
I put him back in the box with all accessories and when I put the box cover back seemed to me that I was closing him in his coffin (that's where the idea of the topic title came out). This phone has brought me much joy and fun and it's a shame to have to do this.
So, I hope this never happens to any of you. If anyone thinks it's worth buying it to use some part (the screen is in perfect condition) send pm me.
I would like to thank all who make xda an amazing place. And especially to developers who do this great work to bring us many advantages for choosing the right phone.
Now I have to save my money again to buy another phone, maybe a galaxy s or a x10. But I'll probably buy another hd2 or wait for the next generation of phones with tegra2
I had the same problem. Your mainboard is going to die.

I cant believe that brazil do not have a certified htc warranty repair center?? If your phone is under warranty so why the h are you willing to pay for the repair cost? Where did you buy your phone?? Contact them and they must fix it or the country is retarded.
call Tel: +55 11 4003-0482 ( latin amerika brazil) and demand free repair
Sad to read stories like this. HTC really need to get their global act together pronto...
did you do a task29? could have maybe fixed all of your issues.
prob
same problem here
2 weeks ago to the day, I accidentally dropped my HD2. Nothing major.. I was actually sitting down when it happened, and the phone bumped my ankle then gently bumped the floor.. no big deal right? (It has a hard shell protector). Well, then as the phone flipped over, it bumped the edge of a table leg and damn! Four hairline cracks on the digitizer. And no more functionality though the LCD was fine and the phone was working but locked with no way to unlock it.
So, I weigh out the cost of repair vs. replacing it all together. Ultimately, it was cheaper to repair the screen.
Here is what blew my mind! Keep in mind that I am in Canada, I purchased the phone (T-Mobile Branded) on the 'net, it's unlocked, tweaked, and therefore there is no warranty.
So, on 04/01/2011, I contact HTC USA. To my surprise I actually get an American on the phone not some call center in a third world country. Wow! The person totally has their act together and in less than 10 minutes, I have a quote for the repair. Wow again! The rep explained everything in detail along with the mandatory disclaimers and while they were finishing up that, I'm receiving an email with all the necessary details and an RMA and Case number and shipping instructions. Wow yet again!
04/02/2011, I send the phone to the repair center in Texas. By 04/05/2011 at 10:50pm the phone has arrived at the repair center. The next morning, I get a call from HTC confirming the damage (which I knew), and they simply want a yes or no to go ahead with the repairs or not. By the afternoon, I have a FedEx tracking number, the phone is fixed and it's on its way back to me in Canada. Wow one more time!
04/11/2011 FedEx is at my door with my phone and HTC picked up the return shipping. Well.. you guessed it! Wow!
I am reconfiguring the phone back to the way I had it prior to sending it as I write this. It had been hard reset to factory spec which if fine and to be expected since they likely run various diag after repair.
So, for $120.00 + $25.00 Shipping, my phone is working again!
There's a case study for keeping our companies and their support centers on North American soil. There are dozens of companies I could list that should be taking notes. 8)
Nice to see a positive post like this. glad you got you HD2 repaired and are now back to modding it.
The whole repair process was nine days including weekends which I think is darn good!
That said, I was without the phone/device for 2 weeks. Talk about withdrawals! LOL!
Amazing how reliant we become on these devices. I use it to manage my daily activities for 3 businesses, 1 job, and my personal life/activities. I was on the verge of anxiety at times! Hehehehe!
At least I had my trusty HTC 8125 as backup and while it cannot connect to my cellular provider's network for phone/text/data, at least I had my calendars, tasks, notes, and contacts but I'll tell ya, talk about feeling tethered to a land line and out of the loop.
Yep, it just got HardSPL 4, my preferred radio flash, BsB, Total Commander, and a few other goodies back on and is now syncing with my Desktop and Exchange. d'-'

It was not a bad price if it was a year ago, but I just picked up another near mint condition one for $150 with everything included off criaglist.

Yeah, fair enough however, in Canada, the phone is not even available therefore my options were a bit more limited to purchase a new phone through a system where there is a little more security in knowing that if it turns out to be a bad deal, the purchase it covered. i.e. Buyer Protection from eBay or anything like that.
It's not like you can hop on a local Craigslist up here and find them readily.
So, the replacement cost for a whole phone was much higher, and the repair was the way to go.

You're a lucky guy.
I've had less good experiences in the Benelux here.
I called in mine for a screen and gps issue that is warranty issue since I run the official image on this HD2.
They didn't pickup the device twice as promised which drove me up the wall since I had my colleague involved and had to change several appointments with my clients for.
After I complained I got called by a customer care guy and was promised my device would be fixed one week after the pickup.
Called them this afternoon since we are one week further and my device was waiting for 2 parts but they didn't know which.
I wonder how many parts can break in the HD2 that direct to the fault. Guessing the main board and an LCD screen?
Well according to the customer service I will have to wait for the parts to come in.
I am so disappointed in the service and hole customer care after having a touch, touch pro, touch hd etc.
The touch pro which costed me over 500 Euro ended up in the trash after 3 failed repairs and numerous errors which where caused by the repair center. Sending it back to another address and name was only the tip of the iceberg.
Looking around for a dedicated Android device the LG optimus 2x looks good since it has a 24hour swap warranty.
Sorry to hear bro!
Heck, they even confirmed parts availability while on the initial call just prior to setting up the RMA. Maybe I just lucked out.
I work in the IT field and deal with all kinds of this stuff all the time and it has been years since I encountered this type of competence and efficiency. Don't know what else to say.
Have you checked out the Motorola Atrix?
http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...d-Services/Mobile-Phones/Motorola-ATRIX-US-EN
This thing looks cool! Watched several segments on it during the CES show back in February. My only question or disappointment was in all the promo vids from the CES they were touting Android 3 Honeycomb however at the Motorola site its tech specs list Android 2.2.
Good luck in your search!

thx for the headsup JayG!
Well lets say that I do the same work as you and do escallations and process realignments. If I could have a go in this whole thing .....
The Motorola looks interesting but try to find one in Europe.
I very agree with your assessment of HTC. My story is one better. I had bought my phone (HTC ELFIN P3452 TOUCH) in India. It had some battery charging issues and when on a whim I finally contacted HTC US, the lady told me that the warranty on the phone had expired 5 days back. I politely requested her if there is something she could do. She came back a few minutes later and told me she will take the phone as under warranty, but she will have to get back to me after figuring out where I should be sending the phone for repair as they figured HTC touch is not serviced anymore. I did not get a call back for 10 days and then I called back and explained my situation again and the previous call to a totally different lady. She gave me an RMA and asked me to ship to their TX facility. I got the phone back with brand new board in a week. But then I noticed a crack in the body. Since now the phone was under a 90 day warranty, I called back and explained the situation. They gave another RMA and so I sent it back. another week later, I get the phone back and it was brand new everything including the LCD and the phone. New IMEI.
HTC is top notch. So my current phone is HD2 and backup phone is Touch.
