Another useful tip from me... ( i hope )
Instead of going through the whole process of shutting down your hero and restarting try this method for a quick reboot.
Hold down all 3 buttons call, end and menu.
Voila it reboots, useful for clawing some RAM back if it becomes a bit sluggish.
Here is the link for a hard reset too. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544554
Hey, thanks for the tip
Yeah, I was looking for the way to do that. Thanks!
Best tip ever!
Aw thanks, i`m glad it helped some of you

How do you perform a hard-reset on the Vogue without actually using the software on the device? Is there a button combination that will hard-reset it because I installed batterystatus and for whatever reason, it is completely locked up and will not even load completely on boot up.
Thanks guys.
EDIT:: Nevermind. I figured it out. Thanks anyways
Hold down the SEND and END keys while inserting your stylus into the Gatesanus (that would be the re-set hole). When the screen comes up just follow the on-screen instructions...
EDIT: Sorry, I missed your edit first time around. But at least I got to say "Gatesanus".

Haha thanks man. Funny by the way. lol
I had the same thing happen to me. It says on battery status home site that if that happens reset like 9-11 times and it will start up. I could not reset so I would pull out the battery, let it load freeze then pull battery again. I did this about 9 times and It finally started with battery status not turned on and I uninstalled without having to do hard reset and lose all info on device. On a side note battery plus is a good program that does run on the vogue.
Hi,
I've managed to kill my Orbit 2! Everytime it starts up it gets as far as the Windows Mobile splash screen then shows the volumn control (both levels turned down) but goes no further. The power button still turns the screen on and off and the screen still dims after a while with any key bringing it back to full brightness, but nothing happens!
Has anyone else had this problem?
Also, I've looked in the forums, but can't find details anywhere of how to hard reset this phone! The only instructions I've found relate to non-existent buttons!
http://www.hardreset.eu/htc_touch_cruise_polaris_hard_reset_soft_reset.html
Can anyone shed any light on why this is happening or how to hard reset!
Thanks in advance,
Nick
it is the bottom two buttons (below the answer & hang up) and the stylus for a soft reset.
When it asks for a confirmation hit the green answer button
Hope this helps
Thanks NC35 - that did the trick!
Luckily I backed it up on Sunday so shouldn't have lost too much!
Thanks
Having tried ( now three times with no help ever) to speak to O2 and ask how to hard reset following the start menu completely failing..... I was told it was "impossible" you will need to return it and use the "28 day" repair service.....
I have at last managed to restore - thanks to this posting!!
No comes the reseting process - which is a bit of a bore!!
O2 seem to have dispensed with any actual tech support at all!!
Dave
The procedure of performing hard reset is perfectly explained in the manual that comes with the phone. "hard reset" is included in the index of this manual, so it takes only a couple of minutes to find out what you have to do.
After all, RTFM ;-)

most likely flashing another rom will fix your problem
I have downloaded the hard-spl. I'm completely stuck. I can't connect my pda to activesync. activesync didn't detect my pda. by the way, when I reset the pda, screen that asked to press SEND for restore to factory setting turn up few minutes after resetting. press green button, screen automatically shows windows mobile startup screen. I'm still stress, |I'm sorry but I can't helped it..
sorry guys. I have read the instruction wrongly. now it works fine.
many thanks cr1960 who has kindly response to my silly worries

NP. Glad you got your problem sorted
Ok first off. Nice Site here. There is a LOT of informative stuff here, and it's really great. You guys know yourr stuff. Unfortuantely it wasn't enough...for what I needed.
I tried fishing through this site to see if anyone has had the same problem that I have had, and no luck.
This is my girlfriend's OLD phone, so before it officially becomes a worthless paperweight, I'll try and fix it and sell it while some value is still attained to it.
What is does in a nutshell is the buttons seem to not work a lot. And randomly brings up the Start menu up with any button you press. If you let the page sit there it seems to get a little better and doesn't bring it up AS MUCH. But mainly the buttons seem to be messed up or something.
I tried installing a new ROM from this site, and I COULDN'T DO A HARD RESET. I tried over and over and even had a helper. It just seemed to not work. I would get stuck at the Tmobile page forever, and be forced to put back the OEM ROM. Then it would work again.
But sometime it would be fine for a while. The thing is, it's unreliable. You never know when it's going to NOT work, and start messing up again.
I'm at a total loss.
Ok. THe absolutley WILL NOT HARD Reset in any sort of way. Just tried it out again. It just does a soft reset everytime
Hi and hope someone could help and calm me down.
I have an original free Polaris with 6.0, and upgraded with the 6.1 rom from the HTC site. Everything was working fine until today that I soft-reseted.
It boots OK but when it shows the password screen, it doesn't allow me to put it. I touch all the screen and nothing happens, the soft options (unlock and Menu) don't respond either.
Last thing I did about 3 days ago was to install Advconfig 3.3 but I don't think this could damage the phone.
I'm not even able to sincronized because ActiveSync tells me to unlock it first.
I'm really getting mad and I'm desperate !!!!
Thanks in advance for anyone who can help ...
the first thing to do is an hard reset.
try it and tell us what happeans
OK, and many thanks in advance for your fast feedback !!!!!
hard reseting . . .
I'm sorry, nothing happened. Just the same symtomps. I hard reseted pressing the explorer and gps button, while presing the soft-reset with the stylus. It seems that the problem is that when I type, the screen doesn't respond, as if the problem where the presure with the stylus.
Continue desperated ...
Bad Hard-reset. I just misunderstood that I had to keep stylus pressed until tha message appeared. Now I'm back again.
One of the worst hours of my life.
Thanks very much for your suggestions, finally it worked.
Best regards.
ok nice
Could anyone with knowledge tell me if it is safe to reboot my Galaxy Note when this image is shown?
(see relevant images in the attachements)
A small history to this incident:
While I was at work my Note had started the "in car"-app (don't know what it is called, but it is activaded by voice I think). Which I found a bit odd, but I closed it down. After a few minutes the app started by it self again and at which point I decided to reboot my phone as some software was obviously screwed up.
Said and done I rebooted but instead of getting the regular boot my phone instead entered Factory Mode with the message "Downloading... Do not turn of target!!"
This of course scares me a bit so I haven't had the gut to turn it off or reboot.
Is this something that can be fixed or do I have to return it for service?

Mate, that's just "Download Mode" used for downloading new firmwares on the phone, used in Samsung services as well.
You access that by pressing Volume Down (or up, not sure) + Home + Power. Just pull out the battery and try to reboot it again. It's nothing to worry about, you might have hit the buttons by mistake or if not just some weird Note act-up...

Exactly. Nothing to be worried about there unless it keeps happening without interaction from you then there be something going on.

Oh. I feel a bit silly right now ^_^
Don't think I hit the "home"-button, but i'm starting to believe it's a bit messed up anyway since the "car"-app is starting by it self. it has happened a couple of times now. I'll wait and see if it happens again, and if so I'll try a factory reset.
Thanks for the quick reply!

That's a bit weird with the car-app, although part of the beauty of Android for nerds like me is solving bugs like that A factory reset should do the trick.
And if you're feeling brave and have plenty of time on your hands, you should start reading about flashing other ROMs, there are a lot of users here and guides who will walk you through it and explain everything you need Once you get something custom on your note, stock firmware will seem utterly unworthy
Best of luck solving your problem

Heh, good for you
I'm not that experienced with Samsung, and by the text on the phone I thought it could be bricked if I rebooted

Thank you!
I'll consider trying other roms when and if I get tired of the one Samsung provides!
Have just had it about two months, and coming from the HTC Wildfire this phone is a beast! ^_^

:/ I had an issue similar to this with the car mode constantly opening up, and it was thinking it was charging when it wasn't, it wouldn't connect to the computer via usb, etc. Ended up being a bad USB port but Amazon shipped me a new one for free. Hopefully that's not the case for you, but if it starts to get worse... ( I had mine for only two and a half months)

Don't fret just yet. Give it time so dat u strt undstanding ur fone
Remember these:
1) Press and hold Power button for about 10 secs to reset (its like a computer restart). Also called soft reset. U could do this when ur fone behaves unusually like hanging, draining too much batt, etc.
2) Vol up+Home+Power until u see the Samsung logo takes u to Recovery Mode. From here u may factory reset ur device. Also called hard reset. Do this when soft reset doesn't solve a small problem. Remember to make backups 1st.
3) Vol down+Home+Power brings u to Download mode. U may use this when u need to flash a ROM urslf (once u have read ample info abt it, be warned)
4) Two other ways to hard reset ur device:
a) Select Settings>Privacy>Factory data reset
b)From ur dialer, enter just key in *2767*3855#
