Please use the pretty good search function of this forum!
In short:
Android on hermes is not possible without a fully working linux kernel.
No, there is no fully working linux kernel for hermes.
Yes, you will need some kind of linux to run Android.

hi,
as everybody know, HTC Alpine is the one without Extended ROM unlocker and the sad one there's no WM5 upgrade either. Now seem like Linux development for Alpine is working on.
How about your opinion using Linux on Alpine device? Do you recommended on using Linux? Will any newbies try to learn it from scratch?
Thanks everyone! Thanks [/b]
I'd like to use it. I enjoy using linux at my home pc when surfing net or watching films..
If there will be linux on Alpine and it will work stable especially with phone part - I use it instead of WM.
and if there will be open source of firmware it would be just great...=))
hope there'll be more positif reaction soon.....
Linux on HTC ALpine? This would be very great because there isn't any working WM5 for our devices!
Anybody has gotten the kernel 'zalp' too boot ? I only get a black screen with red/green lines..

If you dont mind me asking, Where are you getting the kernel etc for this distro?

There are certain things to be fixed in alpine kernel: wifi, cpld irq, phone power, sound power, suspend/resume and so on.
Can you tell us what is working for you, and what is not working ?
I can't rememebr it anymore.
hello all,
didn't find anything usefull, so i decided to start this thread.
my question is: does there exist any kind of linux-os for the tytn?
for now, i've got a vario 2 running with schnap's 3.54 working great, but i'd like to have linux as the operating system
greetings from austria,
donatello
Hi there,
There is some work going on with porting linux to the Tytn, but as of yet there is no working solution.
Here is the link to the Linux port info on the wiki:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Linux
Maybe you can help out with the development if you're able?
Hi all,
Just read an artice on the hack of Google's impressive Android mobile OS. Hackers have used files from the emulator and installed the OS on some Linux phones. I was just thinking that there was a post on this forum saying that Linux could be Installed on Magician. Also Android uses Linux's kernal. So why not give Android a try. Would be great to use the new Android on Magician.
Any clues on how to proceed with the Installation ?
Is it really? I listen about porting on only Linux-PDA but Magican isn't Linux-PDA.
Of course, Android can run on the Magician, BUT never forget that you need drivers for the device - even for Linux!
And that's the problem: if you don't have any information about the chipset etc you will need month or even years to develop them.
If you want to run Linux on the Magician, there is already a project which try to develop drivers for Linux. Last time I read from their progress Linux runs on the Magician with the possibility to use the phone (but no GPRS)...
Use the search if you are interested;-)

It is http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/Magician , isn't it?
So If Linux can be installed, then Android can also be installed. Because it supports all Linux compatible devices according to the hack.
For the DRIVER part, pls check the official Android website-
http://code.google.com/android/
and let us know. Waiting for your reply...
Thanks!
Peoples - a hve WORKING linux on my HTC magician.
name is Angstorm with GUi OpenMoko.
Work - tochscreen,Sound,GSM,blootuth.
thet meens - drivers are exist and work
Can anybody say, where i can download Google's Androuid for ANY platform ?
I'm Find =) Android For Zaurus
it seems to me, For using rootfs on magician we mast change drivers in it
http://www.omegamoon.com/blog/static.php?page=ZaurusAndroid
As me say one man, it takes compiling magican's drivers using Google android SDK.

Sory for my English =)
does anyone know how to actually download the Android platform? regardless of phone model or drivers? or is it just included in the SDK and you gotta compile it yourself? If I can somehow get my hands on a copy of the image I'll probably end up spending the next 3 weeks trying to flash it natively into the ROM
The Android sources can found on this page: http://code.google.com/p/android/downloads/list
It is only kernel. Without drivers.
Found a new article for search on "Android on HTC", got this:
Android Kernel Found, Android on HTC Kaiser imminent
It says, that the kernal works only on MSM7200A chipset for now.
Take a look, link: http://fandroid.net/content/android-kernel-found-android-htc-kaiser-imminent
what i cannot understand is:
if there is an working linux kernel (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=MagicianXanadux) than android should be executable also!?
All necessary driviers shold be available.
So why should it be impossible to have a running android on a Magician?
cheers
aitsch
p.s.: the Magician is a very fast device. maybe android is running well on it.
UPDATE: Google has released a new version of Android, v0.9
Any updates on running Andriod on Magician ?
I could run Linux (Openmoko) successfully.
yea! Android 1.0 it very good
we need this
linux can run on a magician and u can use phone on it but no sms and it's full of bug's
Hi all,
I have tried to download the angstrom linux and follow the instruction from this site http://linuxtogo.org/~ph5/magician/....
but I always had kernel panic when start booting the linux, after then I found out the unzipping wasn't successful there is an error occurred during unzipping.
Does anyone ever encounter the error when unzipping? your help would be much appreciated. thank you

I have opie II running on magician (http://linuxtogo.org/~htcpxa/htcmagician/)
and it runs perfectly (except a little bug eith the menu).
And here is a list what works in linux (http://www.handhelds.org/moin/moin.cgi/Magician)so android should work

Interesting, I'll take a look! What are the bugs you personally notice?
I am now working on porting linux to HTC Pharos. Gotten HaREt to boot it, working on the keymap. Will post the image here when it's "usable"
For questions go to the launchpad project's "Answers" page. For discussion, use this thread.

very very cool ... but try to do one better... try to get the android working on our phone !! (the image has been released so it should be possible to compile it for the Pharos)
I'm going to make android work, but I won't make a ROM before next year because android doesn't have a soft keyboard (onscreen keyboard). They plan to develop it in the first quarter of next year though.
Android Roadmap
Still, a working android (but without keyboard) would be cool, so when the linux kernel is good to use, I will start on android.
please DO NOT make it a rom, if possible make it work with HARET because then we have a choice!! (far more flexable)
i see you're dependant on the drivers released by source.android. q1 09 will be great (hell its allmost 2009 anyway)
I'm developing on HaRET, will release that after some time. I will maybe release an android ROM when it's stable and usable. Btw, all releases (ie. files) will be in the first post. So no need to go through pages (if this discussion will be that popular) to look for files...
Also, I can make it work pretty well without the soft keyboard drivers, but not with android. So here's my plan:
1 Make the linux kernel work (keypad and touchscreen most important now...)
2 Release kernel + a distro like familiar
3 Make it work (loosely) on Android
just a supporting note
I will be happy to see your linux rom
Awesome! It will be very interesting to see the progress of this.
i tested linwizard , the touchscreen dont work .
do you found any driver?
what about android?
touchscreen work now.
files will be available soon.
Hey, why don't use kaiser, nike, vogue, polaris zImage and just change the mtype to have android on your Pharos?
Launch haret console and find the gpios button commande and maybe somebody can make a new zimage compatible with your device?
hi,
thank you for the idea.
i already started the project.
touchscreen work very well, and i'm now working on buttons and jog wheel.
pharos is omap850 and many difference/and similarity with list of model you listed.
lets hope it work now.
can you please give me any documentation.I'm very thankful.
Oh yeah i didn't mention it wasn't the same chipset so it isn't possible to merge source with our thread.
I don't know much things but i can try to help you.
Try to contact @ : dzo, dcordes or another member in the kaiser thread
Can you please post a POC zip. I want to test how android is reactive on Pharos.
Thanks.
please join this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=494991
source will be uploaded on server as soon as possible.
for now you can play with proposed file.
you can join our project.
http://www.enlightenment.org/p.php?p=about&l=en
After reading this i thought it is possible to bring this to our omap 850 devices so i just want see ur views
you can use e17 booting angstrom + illume thanks to wing linux project
but there aren't angstrom image ready to load you must compile...
As gp.triple pointed out, it should be possible to do. As Wing Linux uses Angstrom+Android so Angstrom+E17 shouldn't be a problem.
And pitillo on #wing-linux mentioned a couple of days ago that he was trying to build it for elf (aka Touch, another Omap850 device). If he succeded in making one, it should run as is on our devices.
Personally, I prefer having a Kernel that supports all Opal features before worrying about builds and packages. And sadely, I'm not having lots of success there
Anyway, check the link in my sig if you want to know more about Wing Linux.
