I was able to forward my dads hotmail account to gmail a couple of months ago to his iphone. I have come to do it for myself for my hero and it looks like hotmail have changed their settings so you can only forward to a private domain.
Has anyone had any luck with forwarding Hotmail to Gmail. Is there is another work around.
Any links as all the ones I have found don't work anymore :-(
Yes, there is a workaround.
Enable mobile notifications, make sure you tell it to never send you any SMS (they charge 20p each), and then you'll be able to forward to gmail.
This is what I have done but it won't let me forward to gmail. When was the last time you did this? Btw I'm on hotmail.co.uk
I did it just last week. I am hotmail.com, don't know if that makes a difference.
Were you able to forward to gmail?
Yes, it's forwarding to gmail.
Options->Mobile alerts for new Messages.
I'll see if I can find the blog post tomorrow when I get on my Windows machine at work.
I pull my hotmail to gmail and it works great. Go to add account under gmail settings.
Here's what I used:
http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/20...messages-into-gmail.html#c7424390674072454447
i'm thinking that im going to move to gmail and dump hotmail as at the moment I can not get anything to work. I wouldn't even mind paying a bit to sort this out.
paying really should not be needed.
in google settings as said before, you should be able to enter the pop3.live.com settings to access hotmail and pull it across. unless hotmail have blocked access from gmail of course.....

HELP!
I'm new to the whole mobile email thing. I recently bought an 8525 and I'd really like to set it up for push email but I just don't have a good understanding of what to do and how to do it.
Can someone point me in the right direction? Is there a wiki for mobile email? I have about a half dozen POP3 accounts now that I'm accessing via Outlook 2003 on my PC.
Thanks in advance
Dave the Noob!
Hi Dave...i feel this is something which isnt particularly documented in the wiki so you wont get a standard "Read the wiki etc.." reply hehe
The BEST thing i ever did was to get a gmail account, and route ALL my emails through it, by applying tags to the emails you receive you can easily tell which account they are from. Pop3 accounts can be checked at regular intervals by gmail so no problem there, and if you filter them appropriatly you can get certain emails pushed to your phone via an exhcnage account. You can get a free push email account (exchange account) using mail2web.com's service.
The best thing about doing this is gmail's spam filter works VERY well, and you get 2GB of space.
I personally get selected emails routed to my push account (kindly provided by walshieau....not a public service) , and also the exchange account holds my contacts and appointments.
After a ROM flash all i gotta do is sync with the exchange account and my contacts/emails and appointments are restored.
My push mail from Hotmail seems to be moving very slow lately and it is very anoying. Things like this make me miss my blackberry. I deal with alot of email a day and I need my emails to come to me quickly. I noticed when I installed the hotmail account the windows direct push icon can't be selected like when I had my @live.com email address. I dropped live because it decided to lock me out and not let me back in. Does anyone have any sugestions? I also don't want to deal with getting emails through another server.
THANKS
-Jim
I noticed that using Windows Live as its good times and bad times. Sometimes emails seem to come instantly and sometimes they seem delayed.
I know you said you prefer not to use a different server, but I must say, if you're willing to pay, then an Exchange server is the best.
If don't mind an @mail2web.com email address, you can set that up for free, but it won't be HTML.
If you have your own domain you can pay for a business account for about $20/month (including taxes). This allows you to use your own domain name, plus it uses Exchange 2007 so it offers HTML email. You can also sync your contacts, tasks, and calendar.
Another option is to use the Sprint Email app. I used that for a while and it seemed pretty fast too.
Now that I have that Exchange server, I can't see myself going back to anything else.
I just wanted to add that I think an Exchange Server will give you the closest thing to a Blackberry experience on Windows Mobile. Some people even say its better than Blackberry.
I am in no way affliated with them, but if you have your own domain to use for hosting, I love Sherweb; they're only about $8/month for hosted Exchange 2007. However, you're not going to be able to use your hotmail/live.com email address on a hosted Exchange server, since Hotmail won't auto-forward and you can't setup a reply-to address on the Exchanger server end (workarounds are possible, but messy).
I'd rather try to setup my sprint mail. if I add another twenty bucks on my bill I will be back up to black berry prices. how would I setup my sprint mail for push? when I setup the mail it asks me for how often to check for messages. the hotmail lets me select as items come. sprint does not seem to have an automatic email retrieve option unless I am doing something wrong?

You wouldn't actually be setting up your Sprint email account, but the Sprint Email program that should be in your Start > Programs menu. It should walk you through all of the steps to push your hotmail/live account.
Now for the stupid question. I reinstalled my hotmail email using the sprint email application and I have two hotmail email icons now. Is there anyway to remove the old one with out hard reseting and doing it all over again? Also would you know how to setup another email account with the sprint email option or is it just a one time thing?
THANKS!
I don't even rely on Windows Live Push email anymore.
I use mail2web , check out mail2web.com
They offer free exchange server push so you can just forward your mail to that address.
Check them out its the best.

I hear you, I just find it frustrating to have to do all of this in order to have push mail. Something that is available but it seems to be a broken system.....thanks Microsoft
Try this...I found it at our friends ppcgeeks. http://community.seven.com/forum/main.php
Quite a few ppl from ova there use it. I've been using it about a week now and it works pretty good. Even has a home tab to let you know its connected and pushing. The longest an email has taken was 10 min and the shortest about 1 min. Its better than outlook logging on and syncing process and it is full HTML support. It also can have upto i think 5 dif emails
Push
Another option for email is www.mobipush.com
I have a Nexus One working fine on Orange.
I use it for my Blueyonder email account which is set up just the same as it was on my Hero.
The problem is this:
I get the email notification to say i have new emails, then i go into my emails and the emails are there. Then it starts to refresh my emails and then before my eyes there all disappear! It deletes them before i have chance to read them.
If i then go onto my pc to check my emails there are none there. So its obviously deleting them from the server.
Now i have checked double and triple checked the settings. Its definitely not set to delete from server or even delete when read.
Any help will be appreciated as i dont know what is going on and I'm losing important emails.
I take it you are using the native email client?
Maybe this is not the answer that you are looking for but I use the Gmail App instead of the native Email client. That way I get the benefit of Push without having to refresh.
If you are interested in doing the same then all you have to do is..on your PC:
Gmail > Settings > Accounts and Import > Check mail using POP3: > Add POP3 email account.
Then all blueyonder emails will be pushed to the Gmail App and you can set a label for them as well.
Yes i am. I`m just upset that it doesnt work just like the Hero did. That was spot on..
I`ll try your idea if no one comes up with a solution for me. Cheers.
I agree with Abbsta... you should to add your blueyonder account to gmail and receive all your blueyonder emails in gmail account.
it is much easier and being a google phone it works well with gmail accounts...
I did what you said and its spot on cheers..
Just an update. Spoke to HTC had no idea why it was doing but suggested i use imap instead of pop3.
It worked!
Hey all,
I'm hoping someone out there will be able to answer this one relatively quickly. I'm running the Elegancia ROM and use the email application which is cooked into that rom - I believe it is the standard for most HD2 roms.
I have access to two of my email accounts through the program: Hotmail and Yahoo! I set up my Yahoo account quite ordinarily, by going through Add New Account and then banging in my login details. Sweet. Using this setup method, I was able to select the Send/Receive Every Five Minutes option before finishing the setup wizard. All is gravy there. The emails come like clockwork.
To get the Hotmail account to work, however, I had to install Windows LIVE for Windows Mobile. While I did this, and am able to access my Hotmail emails using this email program, the emails do not come automatically - I am forced to manually open the program and push "Send/Receive" before any come down the pipeline. For the life of me, I can't find any way to just turn on some kind of Send/Receive automation like with the Yahoo account. The "normal" way of doing this (Menu - Account Settings - and then select the email account you want to fiddle with) is a no go: the Hotmail and Outlook accounts are both greyed out, and thus not available for modification in this way.
If anyone knows how to switch this particular function I need on, please weigh in. Thanks in advance.
-D.
got a solution for you, mate.
Go to Start>E-mail>pick your email account>click menu>Tools>options>Tap on account to change setting> then change it there
really appreciate your suggestion. i think i found the windows live sync options using your guidance. no new emails yet, but i should know if it worked soon. thanks a mill for weighing in.was a seriously annoying issue.
how to send receive immediately, as you receive a mail
Can I sync all the emails I have 'attached' to outlook to my HD2 without having a whole bunch of different email inboxes for each email inbox on my phone? (I think I'm even a little confused with that sentence :s)
I use a personal gmail account and a seperate work account, both through outlook on the computer. Each having the same inbox is pretty nice. I was wondering if it was possible for the hd2 to 'send/receive' in the same email inbox for these two different emails? I'd like to use direct push and receive everything constantly, as promptness is my preference. Can I do it similarly to how I have it set up on the PC?
I gave this a quick look and didn't see a similar thread anywhere, and I hope this made sense. Please let me know what I can do to accomplish this.
Thanks in advance.
You could create a new gmail account, and then link your phone to that account. Forward all messages from both the work exchange account and current gmail account to that new account. Voila!
Otherwise, it's pretty impossible to get 2 push mail accounts into one account on the phone.
