Nodata but allow some? - Networking

Hi guys
So I have been looking over the forums quite abit but have not found a solution
Currently I am using Nodata.cab which works fine if I disable my connection and only use wireless its fine and dandy... However I have the following problems
Work provide me with 100mb of 3G data
Aswell as that my provider in australia I get free
Roaming/3G Email
Romaing/3G Facebook
everything else on roaming costs money, I live in a non 3g area and my work is also located in a non 3G area.
What i need is something like the nodata app that allows me to make an acception for an application. Mainly I want email to work for work reasons, i couldnt care less for facebook. As I need to set email to download every 30 minutes.
Since my old work phone (Samsung Innov8) allowed me to choose the access point for applications on launch I didnt mind setting my main APN as my 3G/Roaming APN before my wireless for email.
I currently have a HTC Diamond

T-Mobile US Cab File

Hi,
Does anyone have or know where I can get a hold of this file. I flashed my Vario with the K-Jam Rom and now can't connect to the network.
Thanks
Did You mean Can't make calls?
Or internet?
Here are the T-Mobile US Settings, which is what I assume you're looking for.
Jon.
Thanks for the file. I programed in the internet settings myself, and although it was slow, it finally connected to T-Mobile for voice calls.
Cheers,

Jon - you rock. I thought I was about to spend too much additional money for a frinkin' cab file. got mms and gprs to work. now if I can just figure out how to set up email and get a wireless lan bug i have.
On the wireless side - I can get it to connect to my wireless router - but I cannot get it to browse the web via pocket IE. Any thoughts out there?

If you are using T-Zones service you can't get IE to work straight off as they have disabled port 80 and you can only go through the T-Zones proxy. It's a pain - the way around is go into T-zones (wap.myvoicestream.com) and use the options in the menu there to get to the web pages you want - I set up the ones I use as T-Zones bookmarks. I have a feeling if you pay for the 19.99 monthly internet service you can use the IE straight but havent tried that yet
Ok, maybe a stupid question, but what does this file really do?
I had Internet service working ok with the plain jane qtek 9100 rom after making an account and poking in the right GPRS gateway, and voice calls worked as soon as I put in the sim. Text and MMS seemed fine too (at least until I upgraded to the new qtek rom - but that's another thread).
So I'm sure I'm missing something, but what actually is in the CAB?

I am not sure I understand the approach you are giving - if I want to leverage my current ISP provider and my wireless LAN connection on my K-JAM - I have to do what? What seems to be happening is I can connect to my WLAN at home - get an IP address, good signal, etc - however - when I try to go to Google or something - is says "Locating" but never connects. I messed around with the proxy setting for T-Mobile and actually turned them off - and was able to connect through my WLAN (not GPRS) - however, that screwed up my WAP setting and now I can't ge into wap.myvoicestream.com (of course). Anybody have the manual settings for the T-mobile proxy they can share? I tried reloading the T-mobile .cab file - but it errors out.
Don't you think there should be a way to use your WLAN (which I already pay for and does not cost T-Mobile any $$) and GPRS t-zones (which I already pay T-Mobile for)?
thanks works great
settings, setup? Please help!
Please help!
I installed the file, nothing seems to be changed. All the connection settings dissapeared from setup. when I go to IE, web page, right away gives me an arror message, "can't connect". before it was "loading" and it was like forever..
May be I should put in the settings manually?
Is there a detail how?
I have WM6.1 (TMobile, internet service active on the plan)
I spent hours calling tmobile tech support,, - 0!
PLEASE GIVE AN ADVICE!
Thanks a lot!
Have any of you tried my Tmobile CABs ?

weather not updating on t-mobile usa

I know this has been discussed in other threads, but I wanted to start it here, since all other threads are bombered with "i want the htc touch weather applet"... and explanation on how to add cities.
This thread is to discuss any findings about why T-Mobile USA (and some UK) customers can never get updates via GPRS/Edge.
Almost a perfect device, but always these small annoying issues that SHOULD work, but never do.

I wanted to open a thread about this. This is a weird problem. One thing we know is not about the ports. This is really weird but my weather has updated twice over GPRS. I never noticed when it does it. Any proffesional help is appreciated.
I think this thread needs to go somewhere else because it is something general.
I am also seeing the same issues with T-Mobile USA. I am able to load Cities when I am connected to a PC or via Wifi, but not over Edge.
Weird
I was out on vacation the whole week and the weirdest thing happened. It updated my forecast. Just once, and didn't do it since. I wonder if it's tower/location specific. And yes, I have update when roaming enabled.
I am having the same exact problem, it updates when I active snyc, but not over GPRS- and I am on Tmobile also.
Does anyone know if there's a fix for this yet? It would make this app so much better being able to receive weather updates on the go via gprs/edge. I am having the same issue on tmobile, only able to update weather via active sync or wifi.

not yet. someone please contact the pda department and ask them to investigate further, although I think they wont do anything since the htc home plug is not meant for use with tmobile usa.
I just called T-Mobile's PDA support. They ran some diagnostics and told me that everything is fine on their end.
They said that if we can browse the web then we must be able to update the weather plugin.
One thing I did notice is that if I open the following link from my PDA it gets all the information:
http://htc.accuweather.com/widget/htc/forecast-data_v3.asp?ac=TR2cra9U&locCode=NAM|US|NY|NEW%20YORK
This link is what the weather plugin uses.
My touch is from the UK and in Canada the phone always shows roaming. As such what I have found is that I need to have BOTH "auto download" AND "roaming downloads" enabled to causes the plugin to "automatically" refresh the data.
The refresh does not happen as you would think howerver ( ie, in the background ) but rather when you switch to the weather display. If the last download was older than a preset age, it will download the latest weather conditions.
With roaming downloads or auto download disabled I have to force a download (ie refresh weather data) by manually clicking on the elapse time displayed next to the city name.
Where do I configure HTC Weather to use a proxy?
This problem reminds me of the days when everyone besides T-Mo users could access Google results pages. I think the consensus was that there was some incompatibility with MTU settings. It could be that this is the case here too.
Just found a fix here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=319187
Step 1 worked for me...! Weather now updating via GPRS/EDGE
EDIT: I just unistalled the HTC Home cab and only copied across the HTC Home dll and it works as well. No need to run the host software.
Are you really using T-Mobile's proxy connection for this?

Nope, blackberry plan. Shouldn't technically matter though, if you're using the proxy you could point to the guys server via pocket hosts.
Cheers,
Robbie.
I'm still not able to get this to work. I think there are 2 things going on here for those which require T-Mo's proxy. First, is the T-Mo network problem in general that you seem to have been able to get around, and secondly, forcing the app to use T-Mobile's proxy, b/c all traffic must use that to use the wap APN.
Which servers are you using to get this to work over the internet APN?
make sure your apn says: wap.voicestream.com

o2 mobile internet problem - help needed

I bought a sim-free htc touch hd a few weeks ago, bought an o2 pay&go sim, added the unlimited web blot-on, and thought everything would be just fine. But I was wrong.
It worked fine on the small number of occasions I used it before yesterday.
Since I added the web bolt-on, the automatic connection settings no longer work and I get the following message every time I try to set up the data connection:
Dialed:
Cannot connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again.

Other than trying the automatic connection setup feature a few times, I've also tried manual settings. Currently my settings are as follows:
Modem selected: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Access point name: mobile.o2.co.uk
User name: O2web
Password: some 16 digit long network automatic password
Domain: no value entered
Advanced settings:
TCP/IP: Use server-assigned IP address
Servers: Use server-assigned addresses

I've tried using a different username and password, same the ones listed on most setup guides.
I've tried entering a manual DNS, and Alt DNS server address under advanced settings.
I've tried setting up the connection from scratch.
And I've tried doing a soft reset followed by restoring it to factory settings.
Currently I am using ROM version 1.14.4005.3, and have nothing else installed on the device. I do not currently have access to anything other than a mac, so cannot use any windows-related troubleshooting devices.
Absolutely anything you could suggest would be great. Rang o2, but they were unhelpful. Thanks chaps.

Those are the O2 contract settings. PAYG settings are different and one will not work with the others' settings. You'll have to scoure the O2 website to find the manual settings for PAYG (or PAG as O2 calls it).
A word of warning, however, after just coming off P&G and onto contract, and thus knowing the limitations of both, your mobile web with P&G will be severely crippled.
Unless O2 have changed their settings on the server side, the only web program that will work will be Opera. Email client and youtube won't work as P&G is limited to port 8080 (HTML) only...
This is something that really annoyed me when I was with P&G because I couldn't use my mobile's email client because it just could not connect.
sorry, rant/warning over! Summary: you need P&G specific settings, you can find them (eventually) on the O2 website - keep trying makes and models until you find one that gives you the manual settings (I can't give more help than this as I had to do the exact same thing myself!). HTC auto-connect wizard only has contract settings in it. Also be warned that potentially only Opera will work once you get the settings!

Thank you so much. I may love you. In a non-gay way. Anywho, I've found out how to do it. It's extremely simple now that you've pointed me toward the problem.
Go to Settings > Connections > Manage existing connections
Then under the 'Modem' tab, edit your connection.
All you have to do is change the access point name from 'mobileweb.o2.co.uk' to 'payango.o2.co.uk'.
Very simple.
And thanks for the warning about the limitations. I might take that up with them, since it is not mentioned when purchasing the web upgrade or sim. I'll test it out first though.

It's a general thing with PAYG really, telcos want you to have contracts - make more money from you that way! all PAYG SIMs go through proxies for mobile web connections, and almost all the PAYG proxies are limited to 8080 only.
Then again, it sounds like you didn't use the proxy settings so we'll see what happens w.r.t non html usage!
When you get a chance, could you please have a play with trying to use Gmail on IMAP and/or the YouTube and/or weather panel and report back whether it works or gets timed out? I'd really like to see how you get on!
As I already have many phone contracts in the family (that I'm paying for ), I got one of those o2 simplicity 30 day rolling contract things, the cheapest one for £10, then added £7.50 web bolt on, that lets you do whatever you like (you tube, mail etc all works fine), I thinks its also 150mins and 300txts.
Tmob do one as well that I think £20 for more mins, Unlimited txts and free web (special offer at the moment). It is a better deal than the o2 for only £2.50 more, but I have better o2 reception where I am, and also they use the Edge network.

OK, I've played about with these a bit, and they seem to be working fine. Weather works perfectly, as does my Gmail account on IMAP.
The youtube application is extremely slow, but I'm assuming that is more general, than a specific PAYG problem.

I've got their 'Your Country' SIM pack, which is purely top-up, but they deduct the 7.50 form my credit each month. It's great for me, since you get free minutes for calls to overseas whenever you top-up - damn useful for an Irishman.
Can't afford 20 pound every single month unfortunately. Student life (ignoring the fact that I managed to get a HD).
Thanks again chaps.

[Q] Simple software to automatically disable GPRS/UMTS data while roaming?

Hi out there,
searching for a while now. Found nothing, but CommMgrPro which is way to much.
I search for a simple software to automatically disable GPRS/UMTS data while roaming and enable it back when logged into my provider again.
Would be nice to have more than one "home" provider.
Any hints? Thanks and happy holidays.
the simplest way is change your mobile while roaming
i was surprised that my htc touchpro activate
data communication automatically while i
had disactivated data com before.
Modaco NoData
Thanks. At least a simple way to enable and disable.
My problem is that i live close to the boarder (germany/france) and that i flip into roaming here really fast.
An automatic solution is needed very urgend.
Locking to my provider is ok, but the htc asks me what provider to join, when back.
All that sucks.
I cant believe that there is no solution.
Is CommMgrPro able to handle that?
Nobody?
Nobody else who got this problem and nobody who got a solution?
Is CommMgrPro able to handle that? The documentation is bad.

Maybe you can PM danielherrero.
He's the creator of CommMgrPro.
I am very interested in this as well - and from my searching seems a lot of others would be interested in an automated system.
My network provider automatically roams to another specific provider when in a non-coverage area (small pockets within metro areas and rural). The problem is that the data cost when roaming is ridiculous. I use Push Email for work and while on roaming want GPRS access to be disabled until I am connected back with my provider.
I've installed NoData by MoDaCo which is good but this requires the user to remember to enable/disable GPRS.
*EDIT*
I found exactly what I needed after a more searching - Wombat's PhoneRoam Script (Stay Connected to High Speed Networks Only). Will see whether it does the job

I agree to have more that only one network provider. Here in Belgium we can subscribe to Vodafone passport that enable to use "free" of charge the data on any Vodafone network, but when I go in France it switch to other provider and in that case my push mail is expensive... I'm also in the boarder of France.
So basicaly :
1/ A very very simple prg that disable the data automatically if roaming.
2/ A version 2 that would put all permited network provider even if roaming.
Thanks
This thing exists for the iPhone. Its a simple switch in the interface.
You can select "Data-Roaming" on/off, thats all.
Where is it in WM?

Modaco is fine but when you are at the border is quite difficult to follow your carrier and disable data time by time...or even remember you are switching to another country after few km and you always have one app trying to connect (Tomtom, weather, opening a mail...)
Modaco it's what I use actually but let me forget stressing an unwanted roaming data connection...
a+
Used NoData and application is still able to connect...
Hi,
I switched off all data connections in the registry (using frost Advanced Config, than also tried NoData) and in general windows mobile apps aren't able to connect... but I have a one third party application, which is somehow able to ignore that and connect even when the data connection is toggled to DISABLED...
Any ideas how to REALLY disable data connections (for roaming)...
here is the automatic solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503131
this will automatically disable ALL data in roaming and re-enable under home provider without any user configuration - nothing to toggle

Exchange + WinMo (multiple APN connectivity issues)

Hi everybody!
I have a little issue using my work's exchanger server connectivity on HTC Touch Pro.
Issue: To access internet, my provider uses their "walled garden" APN, which allows me to access their services & general web.
This APN, however fails to work with Exchange.
To overcome this, they have given me another APN, which allows me to access Exchange/Push & Internet but not their services.
Now, it is really, REALLY annoying have to change APNs every time I need to access different info (web vs. provider's page) and I have not been able to find anywhere to specifically point Active Sync to use the required APN as it only has option for "Internet", which I assume is the generic active access point
Dialling rules also are useless as I'm using HSDPA with no proxy to access web.
Apologies if this is all too confusing and thank you in advance for your assistance
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2382465
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=440593
Thank you!!!
So I have done that and can have 2 multiple APNs running at the same time!
It seems, however, that both connections have to be "ON" at the same time as when all APN are disconnected, it doesn't chose the correct data account but always the one that is higher on the list.
Is there a way to overcome this - is there a way to prioritise which data account I want to be used first?
Thank you again

Hi, I have a HTC Kaiser with BlackBerry Connect and I don't have the issues you describe. BBC creates it's own APN which is not used for anything else. In 'Connections' I have 'My ISP' set to use the Vodafone APN I manually defined. Under normal circumstances BBC keeps its own APN connection active, if I open IE or another app that uses the Internet then the Vodafone APN activates and the apps send their traffic over this connection.
One issue I have is that there is no way to disconnect only one APN connection, when you click 'disconnect' both APN connections are closed, however a few seconds later the BBC one reactivates.
EDIT: Sorry, scratch that... For some reason I though you were using BBC - don't ask me why, obviously my brain was wandering elsewhere. But back to your original problem. I don't use Exchange ActiveSync and I don't know if you can configure ActiveSync to use a specific APN like BBC? You might be able to configure the Exchange Servers URL to be in your Exceptions list so it uses your 'My Work Connection' instead of the 'My ISP' and therefore uses a different APN? I am not sure if it would work, but worth trying?
