I've been reading on these forums about the various steps for installing customised Android builds/ROMs... but most seem to be directed towards the G1.
Is it possible to put Cyanogen or JF on a HTC Hero by following the same instructions? (Unlocked, unbranded, mocha Hero)

I'm happily using MoDaCo's mod.
I used to play with the Magic in the past and there is a nice website with a list of the available custom ROM for the G1.
Is there any similar web site for the Hero?
Do the Dream ROMs work on the hero? (n00b question, I do know!)
I think at the moment the only custom ROM available is the Modaco ones. Hence a ROM list isn't really needed as there is only one.
And nope Dream (G1) Rom's don't currently work on the Hero.

As I'm a kind of n00b for this "world", do you have any references to some technical documentation (like boot stack etc)?
... and what about those builds named "RogHero", "JACxHERO" and the likes?
They are still ROMs for the HTC Dream/Magic/Saphire.

The phone is still very new, give it time and soon more and more people will be developing for it.

I was wondering if I could update the software (cupcake 1.5) of my HTC magic to the one on the HTC Hero. My girlfriend has it and she's always pushing me around because her's look more 'fancy'.
I looked it up on the net but couldn't find anything right away. I even checked youtube and I saw some people running the HTC hero rom (most likely another name but I'm new to this Android thing).

There is donut roms for magic. Just check the dev section under magic.
i thought the htc magic had the official sense ui update?
MLIGN made a tut. about it on his website or you can root your phone and try out a hero rom.

All the NAND Android ROMs I have flashed so far have been rooted already when I flash them, one of the perks about flashing a custom Android ROM for any device really. All the ROMs I have flashed were 2.3 Gingerbread. You can check the ROM linked in my sig or the Typhoon Cynagen Mod ROM.

bit of a noob here, have came from iphone to android, was quite clued up on iOS dev but not a clue for android, have bought a new dell streak with the stock version of android on.
was just wondering if it would be easier to not upgrade to the dell 2.2 android before rooting. is that correct??
also which is the best root software for the streak.

Considering that the carrier branded and unlocked Streaks upgraded to 2.2.2 some time ago, it's very likely you already have 2.2.2 on the Streak, unless you got one used that still had 1.6 or 2.2 on it. It's worthwhile to do a ROM update if you have anything other than 2.2.2 on the Streak already.
Best way to root is the manual way, since it always works when one-click root solutions can fail. You can find out how to root by reading the links in the reference stickied at the top of the forum.

yer it is running 1.6 but unused, just confriming the easiest way around rooting, will have a look at that thread.

I have an old HTC Magic, actually a Japanese HTC-03A. A lovely little phone.
Ideally I'd like to flash it with Ubuntu.
Can't find any images for the Magic, can anyone point me in the right direction?
If it can't be done, I'll just have to root it and flash a nice, clean, fast ROM onto it. I'll let my son play with it.
