Hi guys,
I have a problem with my Jade. I've charged it last evening and I've barely used it. When I've went to bed it was 96% charged (ARIELbattery) and 10 minutes used.
This morning, when I've woke up, The battery was 33% and and the phone was 34 minutes usage time.
Something is wrong. Since there were no bluetooth, no wifi, no anything activated. And for sure, nobody played with the phone during the night.
This is not the first time when I see this behavior, but is the first time when the decrease is so big.
I suspect an app, but I do not know which of them. How can I see it?
Do you have other suggestions?
thanks!
There are some possible reasons:
Some SD-Cards seem to drain battery, so you can take it out for a test.
Some additional software is told to drain battery. Did you install something?
It is also helpful to switch to "flight-mode" over night. This normally reduces battery drain to nearly zero, if no additional consumers exist.
Hi,
Yes I've installed some software, like gAlarm, S2U2, icontact,ThumbCal, Skype, etc but last night none of them was started.
What can I do with the SD Card?! I need the SD-Card. Which card does not drain battery and which does?
I cannot turn off the phone over night.
Some clues here in this forum

I've read those before posting, but there was no answer to my problem. I have 67% drop of battery in 8 hours without touching the phone.
This is most likely that your device goes to screenoff or unattended power state instead of sleep. Your power settings might be corrupted. To change that go to your power settings advanced tab and change everything there (checkboxes and sliders), press ok and then change them back as they were, press ok. I'd suggest to keep the device turning off in one minute while on battery and none of the checkboxes for cord powered mode. There is a really freaky thing that even if you get your device to sleep with power button it will go back to screenoff mode after time specified by the turn off device slider while on battery IF you don't have that turn-off-while-on-battery checkbox checked there.

Thanks for the answer. But I do not really understand what you are saying here.
My power settings are: 30sec for Screen Light and 1 min for Device (on battery).
None of the check boxes is set for the case when the device is powered.
It could also be due to the battery defect. After some time the battery could lose its storage ability (because of the defect), despite the mAH stated.
As a comparison, my battery is nearly one year old. On full charge, overnight drawdown (on sleep mode) is about 2%-3% .

I have no own experiences with this programs but Skype for example needs permanent connection to internet when activated (be care of the background job!). This uses data connection and this drains battery. I can not quantify this in %. In addition Skype does not allow the system to switch to deep sleep because it needs permanent connection!
None of the app was started. I just have Skype installed, but it was not used.
Uninstall S2U2 !!!!!

I found some German threads that discuss a problem with this software and battery life. Some loose 10% over night others 50%. I think you should try to uninstall (and afterwards soft-reset!) for a night and see what happens.
Please keep us informed.
First of all, I've disabled the 3G. Now it only gsm with gprs. Since I've done this it seems the battery drop is ... super ok. If yesterday morning I've had 33%, this morning I've had 20%, so 13% drop in 24h, and the phone was used normally as before.
last night the S2U2 was not started.
I will wait until the battery level reaches 10% an I will do a full charge.
I will keep you informed. Thanks to all for advices!
Some clues here too ...

Hi,
So now, 2 weeks later... after setting my Jade to GSM only (no 3G) I get 7-8 days of normal usage. As I said, before I always had to charge it the third day.
Normally, i get -28mAh drain in standby. When the screen is on around -130mAh (for wake up) and then -70mAh. In a gsm call i get around -250mAh.
I did not switch the phone back to 3G yet, but I will and I will see again the battery drain.
PS: the values were provided by Mobadi.
i believe i have S2U2 installed... and my phones fine!
i have the overloaded rom... and battery life seems great only needs charging every 3 or so days and i do use it quite alot!
so...
after some time of testing and re-testing I still have, from time to time, the behavior that during night I see a massive drop in battery level and an increase of the usage time.
I do not know what is going on, but I suspect that some app is waking up the device to do some work (without turning on the screen), and the Jade cannot go to sleep anymore for a while.
I've notice the same behavior on a HTC Diamond 2.
Since none of the app I have installed on my Jade are installed on my friends Diamond2, I have no idea what app could do that.
If anybody has any idea, feel free .... I am idea-less!
I've made myself a little application to log the current values of the power data. So, I've saw that my phone wakes up each hour by himself, without turning on the screen, does some work (cca -70mA) and after 30sec goes back to sleep.
Any ideea about this?
Hi all!
Currently my battery drains about 3% per hour in sleep mode, I don't know if it is normal or not, but the point is that I don't want it to worse rapidly.
For this reason I am asking you, how often you charge battery, if you wait it is fully discharged or not, etc...
In effect it is because I asked it to my professor about this and he answered that different than the old Ni-Cd battery packs requiring the deepest charge-discharge cycle possible, these new generation Li batteries on contrary need to be charged as much as you can and have a durability inverse proportional to deepness of charging process; this means it is better to charge it every time it is possible without to let it discharging.
Now, share your opinions about that...
He's right! Li-Ion and Li-Polymer batteries are most efficient when charged frequently, with a deep discharge/recharge about once every 3 months to reset the battery condition monitors built into the batteries.
They are best left on a USB charge when near a PC, but of course a long day out with these new devices often means they are pretty run down at the end of the day.
In reality, the battery life, even when frequently discharged will probably outlive the lifespan of the device but I've had a few older ones that have needed a new battery after 3 or 4 years.
3% use per hour in sleep mode isn't bad considering it is maintaining a phone signal all the time- does it regularly poll for emails etc?
Thanks for your reply!
About drain issue I can say I use WMLonglife that should disconnect idle connections after a prefixed time and it seems to work as what I can see when screen is on. I can not confirm its regularity on screen off mode, but I presume so, given its proper behaviour in other mode.
I can add that I have a "flat" connection and every connection is preferrably (in order) Hsdpa, 3g, gprs.
My Leo is equipped with:
1.43 T-Mobile UK ROM, 1.24.xxx radio
Don't know if it is important.
I've seen this probably
3% per hour is bad because it means the batteries full lifetime without turning it on would last close to 1¼ days only. You either are on the limits of cell coverage or more likely your device is going to screenoff instead of sleep. Think what you have tweaked and investigate power states. Also, there might be an app running that requires some functions that are available only during power "wasting" power states and keeps the device in screenoff power state.
Thanks for your contribution... but how can I investigate on its real power state, how can I assure if it is really in sleep mode or has only shut down screen?
Same here. Battery lasts less than a day without much usage. I switched off 3G completely now and am testing how long it lasts now.
There is a HTC location option (in the configuration tab of Sense) which can be switched off. Perhaps it is this thing which eats power? What's it for anyway?
The location option is for determining your current location for services like actual weather conditions. It determines your location by using the GSM base stations and signal strenght.
You could disable this, but above mentioned services will not update automatically anymore.
Might indeed want to check any programs that could have auto-update/sync with internet on. My battery typically drains 7-10% per night with half-hourly sync (weather, twitter, mail, etc) and all other options like location services on. I'm on Vodafone branded 1.43 NLD stock rom.

The best way is to download Battlog and check from logs what is happening. It tells you the states and everything. The best thing is if the logging stops during standby. This means it IS sleeping
Hello there. Ok so I have this weird issue my hd2 is eating up battery for breakfast. It's weird cause on standby it's incredibly resourceful and only uses around 4% overnight. On any kind of usage, it literally starts to drain before my eyes!
I've seen some people set the power management off in advanced config, just wanted to ask where do I get that. And in bsb tweaks I set the option to enable power management, is that a setting I could go into somewhere or I just set that on and off?
I think everyone has issues till we find the best ROM/RADIO solution...depending on our usage/country! Today my battery drained 30% overnight...and it was fully charged when i go to bed...(7h of sleep)! But since i woke up...(2h...it only consumed 2%!)
And now as i write this i'm having a SOD (Sleep of Death) @£§€[#"$!!! :/ I'm really tired of this sh...! I think is a problem related to the latest builds rather than a phone problem, nevertheless it freaks me out!!!
Check the brightness...i have mine at 30% which is enough for most situations!...
(TIP: Create a shortcut to automatically rise the brightness to 100% when you are under direct sun, otherwise you'll have trouble to read the screen!)
...this is what saves most juice...then you could try and look for tips to maintain Activesync shutdown when not in use...always close your apps....and (IMPORTANT) disable automatic updates (or at least set the update time to 2h or more), after that check for programs to disable/close idle internet connection (like: WMLongLife, Bandswitch v2.9)
Hope this helps!
Shwanz..you need another zimage for your build, changed mine to the 4/05/2010 havent had any probs, but you might have to find one that works for yours.
Peace
Hello to everyone, and excuse me for my bad English. I would know how I can save my battery life, because its energy becomes empty in a little time.
And which applications and games have you installed? Have you rooted the phone? Thanks

maybe try juice defender!
wipe the battery stats???
the battery life of my flipout was okay until now! since i deleted juice defender the battery is empty after less than 24 h?
is there any chance to wipe the battery stats?
i know this solution from the lg gt540. there was this option in the bootloader! before you do that u have to charge the mobile over the night and then u have to wipe the stats!
Hi,
Check the Battery calibrator on market, I used it a couple of times...
As for enhanced battery life, this is what I am doing:
* Data on demand only, I m using the "DataSwitch" to kill the 3G ..
* I installed the "SetCPU" and set the CPU to 125Mhz when the screen is off (so to conserve more battery)
If I don't make calls , using mainly SMS..sometimes very low browser/email (around 30min) the battery can last over 2.5 days (48hrs, airplane mode on night 00:00-> 09:00) sometimes more (3days) (if I use the airplane mode more often (ie on bus/train))
thank you!
is there an app to set the airplane mode automatically?
i don't know.. I have a shortcut on desktop (motorola widgets--> Flight Mode Toggle) , alternative , while on desktop, press 2-3 sec the power button , a menu will appeared "Silent mode / Flight Mode / Power off"
but I prefer the flightmode widget..
anyway, I think there are some apps that schedule the flight mode (eg during night times)
Hey guys..
I am on Rooted MG5 with Persues Alpha 9. I have been facing this issue since ever I flashed MG1 and then MG5... Battery consumption on ideal mode is ridiculous..
When I go to sleep (12AM), I keep my phone's Wifi On... When I wake up (7.30AM) almost 20% of juice is consumed.. Even when Power Saving Mode is enabled.
Couple of days back, I tried turning off Wifi and Mobile Data connection.. Even then around 10-15% of battery was consumed. I don't really understand why does it take that much battery..
Yesterday I tried different experiment. I put my phone on Airplane mode, disabled Wifi, Enabled Power Saving mode.. Battery consumption was like 4-5%.. I still feel for phone in ideal mode this is too much..
Anyone else is having the same issue? or is it just me? shall I try flashing another firmware? I am not at all happy with battery life
Use BetterBatteryStats to see what's using your battery or maybe wakelocks
I will try using BetterBatteryStats.. Hope It will show the culprit service.
