Personally, I've been extremely disappointed (to say the least) with the boot splash for WM6.5 since I first saw it. Nonetheless, Microsoft has revealed (in a roundabout way) their new branding for "Windows Phone". They are holding an advertisement design contest through Zooppa (http://www.zooppa.com/contests/windows-phone) and have posted the official Windows Phone logos.
The "Windows Phone" is reportedly Microsoft's solution to the versioning issue that will arise when both WM7 and WM6.5 are available at the same time. WM7 is going to be marketed as the "premium" version of Windows Phone, whereas WM6.5 is going to be the "standard" version (not terms used by Microsoft, my naming just for an idea of features). Thus, WM6.5 is Windows Phone. But, WM7 is also Windows Phone.
I've replaced the WM6.5 Start Icon with the orb as shown in the screenshot below, and made a classily-minimalistic splash screen which uses he new logo (also shown below).
If anyone can think of any other uses for this logo, please let me know.
UPDATE: Updated with more resources, Cabs for VGA and QVGA. (Wide versions read the blue note below)
UPDATE 2: Fixed PNG+ICO+Splash zip to actually include ico's. Added Start Icon only Cab's.
Boot Splash for Raphael devices ONLY: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4266315&postcount=33
DESIGNED FOR USE ON QVGA/VGA DEVICES (for now!) For wide users, provide welcomehead.xx.jpg (maybe .png) (where xx is your dpi (192 for WVGA and 96 for WQVGA)) and I can whip something up for your device.
Based off of shellres.192.dll from build 21935 (6.5) and shellres.96.dll from build 23016 (6.5). Untested on WM6.1/6, use at your own risk.
If you're having issues, and are going to ask a question please provide a detailed description of the problem, along with device & rom information (What device? Who's ROM? ROM Build Number? etc.). This information is vital to figuring out the issue, and w/o it, we're just shooting in the dark.
For those who are interested, I've also uploaded the originals and some of my cut out images for your own customization.

I like that windows icon in the taskbar. Can you post that pic so I can put it in the taskbar im using now please?
see first post
Nice logo...
Very cool. I'm going to try out that start icon in my own shellres192.dll cause I don't want to do a hard reset.lol

Very nice thankyou
simply added a nice small gray microsoft, the new logo mind you.
I like this spash screen.
@slow88lx: device/rom info?
I installed the cab and did a soft reset....nothing happened. Same splash and start icon....?
Sorry,
Rom: Win6.5 NFSFAN v13
Phone: Vogue Verizon 6900
my apologies. this is for 192 dpi devices only, and moreover it probably only works correctly with VGA devices.
Well damn. Good work nonetheless.
if you can provide me with shellres.96.dll and welcomehead.96.jpg from your device i can port it. should have it sometime tomorrow...
Are these supposed to be in the Windows directory? I only see "shellresapps.96" and "shellresapps.dll.0409"?
I attached the welcomehead.96.png ↓
you may have to check the box on the right softkey that says "show all files" it should be in there somewhere.
I did that and even tried viewing the folder using active sync/explorer.
weird. i should be able to grab it for myself tomorrow...its in one of these kitchens here somewhere...
Thanks a ton! Subscribed for an update.
Ever thought about making an entire top bar icon set?

That would be very nice, having something like GadgetFreak's taskbar in a blue shade... and Showcase Skin too!

Hi guys, it's been a while since I last posted on this board.
I have recently moved from XP Home Edition to Vista Ultimate. The experience so far is quite good (the fact that my laptop has an ATI X1600 graphics card and 1GB of RAM does help, although more RAM would be even better).
One thing that I am not satisfied with is the dull device icon in Windows Mobile Device Center (reminds me of the HP H4150):
{

I thought there might be a way of changing it to something more interesting - well, say to a picture of our lovely HTC Universal?
Google gave me this: http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/sams...s-mobile-device-center-picture-icon-hack.html
mrailing (a.k.a Michael) of pdaphonehome.com gets the full credit for this. The instructions start on post #3, but as I am typing now there are no Universal icons available on that page yet, so you can get the zipped icons here first (see attachment - I currently have the white prototype, black O2 xda Exec and i-mate JasJar), and then proceed to Michael's page.
It should be a very straight forward tweak, and works for both WM5 and WM6, so enjoy!
P.S.: don't worry, it won't turn your Windows Mobile Device Center into Chinese.
P.P.S.: if you want your own version of icon to be made, I am happy to convert it to .ico for you, as long as it is at least 256px by 256px large, preferably with a solid colour background.
Many people have said that they still couldn't see the icon. May I remind you that you must UNINSTALL THE DRIVER first right after you have copied the icon to your device, unplug it and plug it back in. You should get it then.
Read the instructions on the website carefully!
HTC Shift
Hey Everybody,
could someone be kind enough to make a icon for the HTC Shift please?
Thanks

I downloaded this version
The only differance between this and the one already found in the othere LG today plug thread is dciNoBar.exe so no need to register to get what you already get strait of this side
and no need to make a new thread for things that you could have added to the other thread
Got it. Looks very exciting! Thanks.
It look so nick,Thank you !
what is the use of spacer 2 here?
It works great, the only real point of it is it removes the bottom bar of windows mobile (aka the soft keys) when you are on the main screen. The file is safe as it is really the same files we already have here, just packaged together for ease of use.
The spacer program is actually a quick fix for making the buttons show up on the bottom. I did notice a good value on it was 69 when using only the htc home plugin and the buttons, with the bottom bar enabled. and 94 with only the 2 plugins and the bottom taskbar disabled.
does any one have that all black theme we see in the screenshots?
heres a black theme but it doesnt say htc on it.
is there a way to configure this thing or are we stuck with it the way it is. i want to edit what the icons open up.
I want to edit the paths of the shortcuts, for example, usb stick to wm5torage and the globe icon to destinator... looks great in my HTC Touch, a screenshot of it:

thats not the exact them but it still looks great. thanks
still looking for the theme from the orginal screen shot.
has anyone got this theme??? it looks sick...i want it on my phone :)
thanks in advance
I am also interested in the .tsk from the original screenshot. mushipkw, which battery meter are you using?
I figured I would give this a shot on a clean install of DCD's 1.6.7 ROM. Memory usage dropped from 27.52 free to 19.xx after installing this today plugin. It looks perty and works as described but that's just too much memory for me to sacrifice.

Mem Delta is about half-MiB for me (build 318), and I have a plethora of other plugins on my todayscreen as well.
I've made an application that will replace the theme's background with a background of your choice.
The advantages of using my program:
- unlike on your device itself, you can zoom in and out of pictures and get just the part YOU want on your devices today screen.
- you get a seperate part of the picture for both portrait and landscape mode, not the same one like windows does (either cropped or tiled).
It's an application specifically designed for the XPERIA but it can be used with other devices with the same resolution (or if I make small modifications which consist in users being able to select the preferred resolution).
You can load a picture, modify it to your wishes and then either save it directly onto your device or make a backup which you can use for later on your desktop computer.
Update: You can now change the fontcolor of your todayscreen and start menu, as well as changing your devices base color.
For example the color for your menu's and background colors for standard windows applications like messaging, etc...
If there are things you dislike or would like to see changed; functionality you would like me to add, please tell me.
Note:
- All 3 files are needed to run the application.

I have no experience with manilla, I don't even know what it is ^_^!
If manilla uses the files windows provides to use as a background, it will (like stwater_800_480), otherwise it won't.
wow, glad to see a nifty little program like this. can't wait to try it out, thanks for the development!
I've added some features which now makes it a basic theme editing program as well.
Also I have bad news..
my x1 fell in my cup of soup a few days ago T_T so I turned it in for repairs. I got lucky after like 20 times I could flash my old ROM and SPL back so they can't complain about that..
Will it change the background only of the Today Screen?
No changes in the screen of the Sony Ericsson Panel?
(I'd like a program to change the Sony Ericsson Panel Background, doing it manually is a little tedious)
will this creator also run with windows mobile 6.5?
great thanks for development!!
I couldn't find another thread for this problem, then again I found it hard to find words to describe the problem so I'm just gonna go ahead and post a screen shot
Anyone else come across this and/or have a fix?
Thanks!

For some reason the picture wasn't displaying in my first post above so here it is! As you can see the new mail number in the green circle is covered by the square slider... the speech bubble was however added by me to brighten up your day.
Friendly bump
All I can say is that that's obviously not standard behaviour.
Have you installed many theme mods?
What extra software have you installed on the device? I don't recognise the 2 icons on the top right as being standard (well, not for me). I'm guessing that the horizontal stretching in the image is not representative of your device? On my HD2 the envelope is more square. Does this happen on all you email account icons? I see you have 3 accounts.
Regards.
thanks for the response guys. to start off with, the ROM i have is 2.01, and i found the download link for it buried somewhere in the 2.01 ROM thread right here in these forums. i didn't know it at the time but it was a cooked rom as the top right icon in the status is actually a task manager drop down menu that has been there since i installed the rom, as well as some other programmes that are not stock.
however to my memory this graphical anomaly shown above was not present from the beginning... yes, it happens to all of the email accounts.
In terms of theme mods i did install HDwall but then uninstalled it as i stupidly didn't realise that it didn't work properly with manila 1922 (if i recall). i made the same mistake with max manila and also uninstalled that. my biggest problems came after trying out dome bg4alltabs mods and 16/20 quicklink shortcut mods, which i should point out that i had trouble completely uninstalling, though they no longer appear in the application list. i believe that the 20 quicklinks mod graphically messed up my home screen by removing all the quicklinks (not even the outlines remained) and causing an ugly grey box to appear on the.home screen which covered part of theleft handside of the clock...?
i can't be bothered to hard reset over this at the moment... i guess one way to perhaps solve it would be if some of you guys kindly posted the relevant stock registry entries on here that are relevant to the problem or indeed relevant to those theme mods that have been uninstalled, as maybe there are still remnants of them left.
however i realise this is near impossible for any one to know the ins and outs of the registry entries that well, at least that's what i feel in my inexperience, so if not then no worries, i can only thank you for your time which i will do gladly
I have been gone from the seen for a while after the Sense2.5 screenshot leak that eventually cost me my job at Big Red.
No worries though. I am back now with a TP2 in hand and VZW's MR2 installed.
I have been hard at work on all sorts of Manila icon replacements for Sense 2.5 and should be updating my website (tp2.bfgreenberg.com) soon with all the goodies.
UPDATE
I have reworked many of the icons.
I have a CAB available for some testing as there are just too many icons for me to find every error (over 350 icon replacements so far)
Some things to know if you decide to test:
I have seen the "black screen of death" after the 1st reboot after installing. If you get this, just DO NOT hit the VOL UP button. Any other button will allow the phone to boot normally.
The file is HUGE. Over 1 MB so it takes a while to install.
I have verified that it does UNinstall cleanly.
Please email me any problems you find to [email protected] and please include screenshots.
When emailing me please put ICONPACK in the subject line and be sure to include your XDA username in the body on the email
Please make sure to reboot after installing or un-installing (not just restart Sense) ... this is because there are other graphic files (BMP, PNG) in additional to manila files.
This is FAR FROM COMPLETE. Still email me if you see something that doesn't look right. I will reply if it is indeed a bug or just something that I haven't gotten to yet.

This will probably be the last BETA before the final release.
I have received very little feedback which tells me that either nobody gives a crap or that it works really well.
I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS WILL INTERACT WITH CHT - USE AT YOUR OWN RISK
NOR WILL IT LOOK GOOD WITH A TRANSPARENT SLIDER / BOTTOM CURTAIN (for now - options for this will be included in the final release).
THIS IS FOR UNCOMPRESSED MANILA ONLY (again - for now)
PLEASE!!!!
No requests for different icons if you just dont like the ones I have used.
This and all BETAs to follow can be found here:

BETA now available for testing. See POST #1
You should post some more 'screenshots' of the full slider in here and I think many people will be glad to use them. I went to your website, they're actually pretty good, I like them.
