[App] Palm Threaded messaging - WORKING MMS!!! - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

Need beta testers to try out this port of the Palm Threaded SMS app from the Treo 800w.
There are two cabs. One for the Sprint Treo Pro and another for the GSM Treo Pro.
Some known issues with this beta:
- No notification icon appears on the today screen when an sms comes in. This is actually a bug with the original program.
- MMS voice record fails initialization. Most likely due to different hardware.
- MMS receive fails on download step. (Sprint only)
Muffnician reported that sMMS works as a workaround to view MMS for Sprint users. Also go to Menu->Options in the Palm SMS app and uncheck the checkbox for "Automatically collect MMS Messages" to avoid getting download errors. GSM users can ignore this. You don't have this limitation.
Note that you will not be able to access or transfer your outlook sms messages into Palm SMS. Well maybe you can transfer 10 at a time each time Palm SMS starts., but there is no other way to do it
Installation instructions:
1) BACKUP your device using Sprite.
2) Download and extract the cab from the zip file and install it on your device.
3) Soft reset the device (use a program to do this to be safe)
4) When the device boots go to the Today screen settings to position/enable/disable the plugins as desired.
5) There will be a link in Programs called "Palm Messaging". This should open Palm sms. It should also show up in the Button settings so you can assign it to a key.
That's it.
Test sending and receiving sms and mms messages. Report any issues you find.
Thanks to cjohnson19401 for creating some webspace for me to upload the cab files for those that don't have access to rapidshare.
For Sprint Treo Pro:
RapidShare: Easy Filehosting
you can also get it here.

For GSM Treo Pro on AT&T/Cingular:
RapidShare: Easy Filehosting
you can also get it here.
http://carlnet.no-ip.org/phone/hannip/Palm 800w Threaded SMS GSM beta2.zip
Uninstall instructions:
1) Go to Start->Settings (Personal tab) and select the Today settings icon.
2) Select Items tab and uncheck boxes for "Messaging" and "Inbox".
3) Hit ok to refresh the today screen.
4) Soft reset
5) After boot go to Start->Settings (System Tab) and select the Remove Programs icon.
6) Select Palm Messaging and click Remove.
7) Soft reset

Install the GSM version and take note of how I got to make it work, your MMS app may be different and you must always back up in the registry before you delete something in case you cant use MMS any more. Here is the post I made which found out how to make it work.
~~Tito~~ said:
I got it to work! When I was seeing what the problem was, i found out that the OEM MMS application was missing. So I gave up a late night and flashed and restored my back up. Well what ever happened my palm threaded text messaging worked!! I had previously installed it in my back up and it couldn't send any, now i tested it just to see and it works! You can find it here.
Ok, it stops being able to send after a soft reset. . . I will see what I can do to fix it. If anyone wants to pitch in, then pitch in . This is the latest version of the palm threaded messaging that works!
Edit #2: Ok, I got it. Just delete the MMS Key in the registry that samsung has. If you have installed Arcsoft Uninstall it and delete that key as well. Delete: "HLM\Software\Samsung\MMS" and if you installed arcsoft and uninstalled it delete: "HLM\Software\Arcsoft"
I've soft resetted twice with no issues.
We got the best mms/sms app around, 0 lag and 100% mms working!

Once you figure out what you need to delete send a MMS and receive an MMS to make sure it works. If your not on at&t, then you can change the settings with in the application.
Working on:
-VGA
-QVGA
-320x320
-240x240
Works, but iffy:
-WQVGA- Graphical Issues, needs more confirmationSolution to make message size limit to 600kb:
HLM/Software/Palm/Varnish/Messaging/MMS/MaxMsgSize "614400"

What would be the benefits of using this instead of the OEM windows threaded messaging?

Its faster and simpler to use, no more wm text lag, less of a resource hog, plus all the conversations save to one file for easy back up. Its the best just trust me .

can i use it for diamond?

QVGA?
How many percent of resources?

You guys have to try it out, to see what display issues happen, or don't happen.
Also,
It replaces the default Messaging app. So when you uninstall it, the default messaging app might not reappear. If that happens make a shortcut from "tmail.exe" in windows, back to the original location(Usually \Windows\Start Menu") it was and rename it to messaging or what ever you'd like.
System resources:
Ram takes like 1mb-4mb
The lower amount would be when its idle.
CPU will be around 0%-32%, Maybe less, because it only goes up when a new message comes in then instantly goes back to zero.
The lower amount would be when its idle.

screenies?

I will post later. Just test it out and see what issues you may run into.

I would like to see screenies before testing ANY application

I cant upload any screen shots right now since I tried from my phone and it wouldn't(away from my pc). I am on a short trip to mexico, and I am in california right now, but when I am in mexico, I am going to shut off data to avoid any charges. If you see uploaded images then it worked finnaly, hehe.
If your doubting this application, do a quick search on here for "palm threaded sms".

does this version address the issue of messages sometimes being stuck in the out box and resending itself, will there be vga support in the future?

wow! i can finally throw out my old (almost 3 years old) cab from treo 750. mms working like they should, nicer program icon and some minor changes. not so big step forward but better this than nothing now i can uninstall arcsoft 4.0X and still have mms capability!
any chances for working oem package?

I dont have that Issue so I guess it does, and for the vga issue, I dont have the knowledge to do that, so someone here on xda could probably do it :/. try it out and see if there is any issue

I'll take a crack at it

Seems to be working fine on my Fuze (Touch Pro) so I'm guessing it works fine on VGA

Can you send a mms? No text display issues and such?
Can you provide a screeny?

Here are my issues:
1) Did not pull my sent messages over and create a conversation, just my inbox. Not sure if this is related to the fact that my messages were threaded in my default inbox though.
2) There is no notification icon on the taskbar (really the deal breaker for long term use)in case I don't see the SMS right away, and since don't use the Today screen the message counter located there is not of much use to me.
3) Default network connection is My ISP, but I changed that to medianet, so that it won't disconnect my data to send/receive mms, but rather uses my default connect.
4) Really needs a GUI facelift overall. Definitely works though for those that love palm messaging.
5) I didn't look into it too much, but I think the max size of mms messages needs to be fixed too, it's compressing them more than I'd like.
Attached some screenshots

Testing now... Will post results and screen shots... running a Sprint touch pro...
As of right now, palmsms is still unable to download sprint mms... Have tried many things so far... Still trying...

Any other sprint users test yet?

Palm Messaging app

The Palm Messaging app from the Treo 750v is cool.
It's even cooler on the TyTN.
EDIT: This file has been removed from the FTP site, Please do not upload it again.
Palm claims this is in conflict with their Intellectual Property rights.
Thanks,
Flar (the admin)
Is this the threaded SMS app? That'll be cool if it is. Any screenshots yet? Thanks again
*edit*
HAHAHA it is the threaded sms app!!! Awesome find
very nice... it would be even better if we could maintain the messaging app's hard button functionality (i.e. be able to push it repeatably to toggle between this app and the standard inbox app).
thanks for sharing!!
Does this play well with Push Email feature? Second the motion for PICS
Thanks!
Thanks for the APP..
Ok...yes I am a loser....!
Any chance the cab can incorporate the registry changes, (MMS1 to MMS1old)...or was it left out b/c people may wish to leave the message there as well?
I get nervous on the regedit side...
Thanks, and if not...no problem.
All the changes are already in the cab as far as I can tell. I'm not in front of a PDA...
V
Wow! Is this done independently of hannip's ROM dump? Cool! Thanx theloanranger!
I'm looking forward to use this on my Pocket Loox T830 (when I get it).
Screenshots from those who already installed it please?
Wow, I look away for 2 seconds and someone already did it!
Awesome!
ahhhh! thank you! I knew it would only be a matter of time til someone got this...I'm using it on my 700wx and it is the shiz-nit!
pretty friggin' awesome! Works great!
i tried it on Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone, and not surprisingly, it doesn't work too well. it installs fine, but when running keeps generating exceptions in device.exe and gwes.exe. also, the UI does not work well because it's designed for Pocket PC. again, no surprise, but in case any smartphone users are tempted to try it, consider yourself warned.
kudos to whoever got it to work on a Pocket PC though!
MMS gateway and such for verizon
Any one have the settings to get mms working for verizon on this? Thanks in advance
Mmmmm, the lovely Treo 650 messaging is back.
Everything works fine on my TyTN. There is only two minor issues. First one is about desconnecting after sending a MMS. I have to do it manually. Any idea?
The other one has been posted before: I cannot set the Palm messaging to the hard button... although I've sourrounded this using SBSH iLauncher. I've assigned PalmMSG to one of the iLauncher's QuickLaunch icons and this one to the hard button.
Sprint PCS MMS settings also..
I tried putting in the settings I did to originally get the MMS working on my sprint ppc6700, but the settings are not working here. Any ideas?
Some help please..
I tried to look for the following using resco and phm and i can't seem to find the following that was included with the instructions
- Now you've done that, navigate using the registry editor to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc and rename the MMS1 key to MMS1.old, and the SMS key to SMS.old. This will prevent the standard app displaying SMS and MMS.
Any help is appreciated! and btw this on a treo 700wx
lol I don't have anyone who can send me a MMS So I don't know if it works or not, lol. But I love this app
this app works beautifully on my MDA! I love it! I have been waiting for this app. I used a program similar to this on the RAZR. I loved it.
Screenshots are found here:

NOTE: Some of us are having issues. We CANNOT send an SMS to an email address. We get an error message:
"Could not send message. The message center number or the email center number is invalid. Please contact the wireless operator."
Now, in the SMS app, if you go to Menu --> Options --> Advanced tab
Network Configuration/Manual/Edit...
You'll see spots for "message center number" and "email center number" and both are blank. When you put in a number (such as found here: http://www.smsfre.com/SMS-Mesaging-Centers.htm ) they do not stick after hitting "OK".
Any help/ideas?
Guys, I've written a new app, VJSlippyPalm, to toggle between the Palm Messaging App and the normal Inbox.

[new release] VJSlippyPalm - Toggles Palm Messaging

VJSlippyPalm
Guys, a quick app:
see here for the Palm Messaging App
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=280256
Once installed, you lose some access to the normal inbox, which you may still want.
Using VJSlippyPalm, you can assign the app to a hardware key.
Running VJSlippyPalm will then launch the Palm Messaging app.
However, pressing it again will close Messaging and instead switch to the normal Inbox. And vice versa.
If you have one of the apps already launched in the background, it will jump to that app (eg if Inbox is open, and you're on the Today screen, it will jump to Inbox)
By default it will close the other app.
You can launch it with a command line -min to minimise instead, for whatever reasons.
-about will show information about the app.
Download from my website.
V
PS: please note, this is not an app to uninstall the Palm Messaging App. It just switches between the different screens. Backup your system before installing Palm Messaging!
lol...well, that was fast!
Will give it a shot now...thanks.
Very nice, although I get a slow screen redraw between Messaging and Outlook E-Mail. Any ideas? On a i-mate JASJAM.
Okay this probably has something to do with Messaging closing, rather than minimising.
I understand creating a shortcut with "-min", but how to assign this shortcut to the Messaging hard key?
hmmm... i installed the palm messaging app and did the registry. i lost the sms/mms on inbox. is using this software will bring the sms/mms in the inbox or will this just switch between the two?
beatrix - it's nothing sophisticated, it just switches between the normal inbox and the palm app. It won't modify registry or fix anything that's already been broken
To assign the -min version to a hardware key, go into your start menu, find the existing shortcut to VJSlippyPalm, copy it, paste it, and then edit the copy. You want to amend the shortcut to just say
"....blah blah\vjslippypalm.exe" -min
Click to collapse
Rename the shortcut to VJSlippyPalm Min.lnk
And then launch that in the normal way from Settings > Buttons.

Legend, thanks!

That one is the triangle powers .Net app. It's not integrated nicely like the Palm version and was very buggy when I tried it and very slow to load.
cant install cab from site on phone
hey, i tried dling the cab from your site directly from my phone, but it just brought me to a webpage with a whole lot of source code and stuff.
Seems ok to me:
http://www.vijay555.com/vj/releases/vjslippypalm/vjslippypalm.cab
paste it in to your browser, should work.
V
hey, tried it again and it still didnt work. tried in pie and opera.
Weststar - I didn't know you were using your PDA to browse. I could attach it as an attachment, but I don't like doing that as I like to update the cabs on my website as I develop them - attaching it will cause a static link of course. Could you use your PC to download instead? Worst case I'll attach.
V
well im at school right now, so i cant do it on my computer. but whatever works out for you is fine with me =)
do you /anybody know if the Palm's thread messaging implies all the SMS will go from the default inbox to the Palm's own database? i.e. if you open the default mail application, will it still be able to read all old sms.
to Zenkins:
I'm guessing you already have your answer by now, but to you or in case anyone else wonders, after install your SMS will NOT go to the old messaging database. I assure you this minor drawback is not worth passing the Palm threaded messaging app up though. It works beautifully! The lack of threading was my biggest and only serious complaint about my CHT-9000 (Hermes/TyTN/8525) since leaving my Treo 600. I use SPB backup to backup the databases daily in any case so for me at least, it's a non-issue.
Err, just realized I misread... I'm pretty sure the install killed my old SMS database. I'm not 100% certain I did have anything in it since I had just flashed the ROM and started fresh, but I'm pretty sure i did.
I don't understand. Which install killed your db?
VJSlippyPalm certainly shouldn't, it doesn't touch any databases, and AFAIK the Palm app shouldn't destroy it either, hence the use of VJSlippyPalm to switch between the two apps, which can co-exist well. However, I don't use the Palm app so can't say definitively.
V
thanks, I have figured that the old SMS will be lost. in anycase, I tried installing the palm messaging, it hung on me when I try to compose the message, or if it manage to compose and send, it goes straight into the sentbox, but the message doesn't get send out at all.
any idea?
Really no idea, as I said, I don't use it. Try googling for VJSlippyPalm and it'll take you to the another website that packaged up the Palm app. They've discussed bugs etc there.

HTC Home plugin + MMS

I wasn't sure if there was something covering a fix for this issue...
If you install the 5 tab HTC Home and you have the MMS app installed, the email button on the Home sends you the MMS regardless of what you do.
If you have the 3 tab version however, it will bring you to the selection screen of messaging (if you have it set to Display account picker).
If anyone knows of a fix or has a fix for this issue, I would love to find out I would like to use the 5 tab version, but this annoys me too much to keep it. I have looked around in the HTC Home section of the registry and didn't see anything that stood out for that option.
Does anyone know where I can get ArcSoft's MMS Composer v. 4.0 cab file? It is really much improved. I've tried it on my TyTN. It combines SMS and MMS in one and checks one's address book for the appropriate phone numbers when MMSing.
I check ArcSoft's site and could not find it.
At one point it was floating around at ppcgeeks, but it would not work. It was sending additional information when trying to send a message. The Sprint server was rejecting everything that was coming from the v.4 app. None of the registry settings that were modified seemed to of fixed it.
I've just seen that the 6 tab is finally out, so we'll have to throw that one in as well.
I haven't tried the 6-tab version... does it have the same results as the 5-tab?

I'd sure like to try it anyway. I have tried a v 3.0+ which was made for the Apache. It worked well but it wasn't perfect. It would give you the option of sending some kind of pic message that Verizon uses but Sprint doesn't. When the MMS option was chosen, it worked great. I tried to post this .cab file, but this site wouldn't let me.
Adding another email account worked for me
I just added my yahoo email account, and when I tap on the mail icon, it now brings me to the screen giving me the choice to choose Text Message, MMS, Outlook Email, & now my Yahoo email (not exactly in that order).
Thanks for the fix as this was killing me.
Still a problem?
I have the 6-tab version and have this same issue. One icon opens text messages and the other MMS messages. Is there any way to change these to open the email? MMS is useless to me.

HTC Messaging On HTC HD2 Issue

I know this has been discussed numerous times prior to this handset being released, and that HTC messaging has been cause various amounts of lag when the sms count is more then 20+ for one contact.
Im thinking everyone like me thought this issue would be fixed when the HD2 came out, with its 'power'. But I guess it had nothing to do with how powerful a processor you needed, but good programming, and ram allocation.
I've disabled htc sense, and used the default windows mobile 6.5 interface, but this still uses htc messaging.
So I tried to disable htc messaging using that tweak posted previously. It didn't work. When I clicked on a message in the message tab, nothing happened.
Has anyone with a hd2 emailed htc about this issue? I can't believe we still have this problem.
same here. would really like to go back to native wm threaded messages without disabling the Sense itself which is great..
HTC messaging disable
just google zenyee disable messaging and you will find what you are looking for....i had the same problem...i keep over 400 msgs in my inbox and it just slowed down like crazy...used the cab file on the site and its working perfectly...both sense and standard 6.5 messaging.

From my first post, I have already tried to use this cab, and it didnt work.
htc should just put a limit to the number of SMS messages to be shown when you open a contact's sms page. For example 20 messages shown immediately and if/when you need to read past messages, you just tap on a "show more messages" button on top of the sms list.. that should work wonderfully..
1.2 from here works for me, but i cant get it to be threaded..

now this should work, right? like on the iphone... the old messages will simply be archived. is there any tweak to do that?
Sounds like it would be an awesome idea. Or just port manila's 2.1 htc messaging.
Otherwise, the quick fix, all you do is push the keyboard logo, then you can compose a text right away.
Beats disabling htc messaging, and going back to the ugly default windows messaging.

I've tried both of these and neither work for me. I'd love to just have the normal WM SMS editor back!! (and no threading either)
I'd also love to get the damn album saving to \Storage Card\My Documents\My Pictures as well... another #htcfail !!
Disable HTC Messaging on HD2
The Zenyee Disable HTC Messaging 1.2 cab works as it says it would, ie default back to MS messaging system & the HTC messaging is no mas.
However, when tapping on a message from the text tab in sence, it does nothing (as it said it would), but there has to be a registry tweak to over come this.
Also, MMS is also no mas! This is a problem for me. I have installed, Arcsoftmms 5.0.31.7.us.cab with not luck. MMS messages go no where.
I have tried Arcsoft MMS composer WWE, also with no luck. This creates the MMS tab under menu/new/ sms or mms. It gives the old Windows CE look of MMS.
Voice command actually reads incoming text messages (which is a plus)
The TellMe app actually sends a dictated text (also a plus) with the Zenyee cab installed.
The lack of MMS is a no deal for me.
So, I recall my HTC HD days with the MIRI ROMS and the Energy ROMS. Miri (as well as Xanny Tech ROMS) roms had an option of ROMS without HTC messaging. These ROMs had the old 2.1 HTC Messaging (everything else M2.5) & WM messaging combined & MMS was present. The energy ROMS actually had both WM & the new HTC messaging enabled (with MMS).
My questions are: is there something I'm missing with this Zenyee cab and enabling MMS? Can I have both HTC messaging & WM messaging with MMS? I would be satisfied with this stock ROM (For now) if answered.
Please Help,
Todd

I usually post on ppcgeeks but while doing a search, it led me hear and thought to chime in. The standard fix for SMS/MMS issues is to install Zenyees cab to disable messaging, reset, install Picturemail removal cab, reset, and install Arcsoft cab for your carrier. Ever since the 2.5 cooked roms have come out, this has always fixed the sms/mms problems. Tap "all messages" from the messaging screen and you should be good to go. if have previous sms from backup data, it may not all thread but any new messages from here on should be threaded.
hope that helps.
hi any print shot for the final look of how the thread look like?
Anyone having issues with installing the Remove PictureMail & Arcsoft.cab? For some reason it wont install the 12kb
i cant install and disable everything still cannot install Remove PictureMail & Arcsoft.cab

The Arcsoft cab did not work for me on the HD2. it just does not play well with the inbox.
If anyone got this to work, please let us know how
I cannot get HTC Messaging disabled using the 1.2 cab, no matter what the MessagingService.dll seems to load on startup regardless of whether it's entry in HKLM\services\MSG is removed or renamed manually or with the cab. And when I go into the Windows folder to try and rename the file, it tells me I can't as it's loaded into Rom.
I'm on 1.48, could someone point out a fix for this please?
no helper???
There's an SMS Hotfix on the HTC site - maybe it helps?

[APP]New HTC Messaging Client Versions. 10/8 Current: 20193733 12/2 update

Ok, so, I was providing this in the HD2 apps forum and it kept being suggested to me to start my own thread, so, im thinking.. why do that just there? Its for wvga devices and people use it on multiple ones, so why not post it somewhere that everyone can see it?
So, what I'm going to be doing, is providing the newest versions here in cab and ext if requested.
Also, I'll try to provide some extra cabs here every once in awhile (like network settings, graphics tweaks,etc.).
So, here you go:
Current Version:
Pyrorob HTC Messaging Client v1.8.20193733.00.cab(btw, without securebox/vip)
UPDATE: Anyways.. Ive been playing around with some stuff regarding the 3733 client and i think i fixed the securebox/vip issue.. when you add a contact to the vip section now, there messages are forwarded to the secure box and there is a notification, but only in the notification bar, I would recommend to go to Settings/Sounds & Notifications/Notifications/Event:"Message:New Message" and check "Display message on screen" it will then have a pop up that tells you that its a vip message and from whom..
here for those that want to check it out:3733 Messaging_secure_vip_fix.cab

Extra Info/FAQ:
How To Install:
(If you already Have the htc messaging client installed)
First Method: (Download:View attachment 374936) run the OFF cab (First), Soft reset (Second), Install Client (Third), and soft reset (Fourth)
Secondary method:
now for the people that are having problems installing/upgrading, the most common reason is due to the fact that if you had the client installed before, it installs a service, which is an actively running dll that runs in the background (like an openly running exe, BUT IT IS NOT AN EXE!) you have to shutdown the dll to overwrite it or you will face issues.
Now in energy roms, you can go to start/tools/ and open task manager, after it loads, touch in the top right where the little arrow is and go to "services" NOT PROCESSES, find "messaging service" and touch and hold on it and set it for manual and soft reset.
If the client was installed by you, then go to remove programs and uninstall any mods for it, then the client itself, soft reset, then install the client you want.
if it was pre-installed, just install.
If your not running an energy rom, Download:dotfred's taskmgr and follow the same directions after install.
IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS LIKE I HAVE SAID, (NOTICE I SAID NOTHING OF "MESSAGING CLIENT.EXE") THEN THE DLL MIGHT NOT BE OVERWRITTEN/UNINSTALLED.
To install (if the htc client isnt installed):
Just install.
How to uninstall:
(You cannot uninstall a cooked in client, so just follow the install directions)
The uninstall procedure is really simple, basically, run the off cab, soft reset, uninstall any addons you installed for the client, then uninstall the client, soft reset, thats it.
To Upgrade:
Follow the uninstall procedure, then the install procedure.
How do i set my MMS server as default?:
In the htc messaging client, go to menu/settings/options/ then again at the bottom, menu/mms server, Highlight the mms settings and while its highlighted go to, at the bottom, menu/ "set as default". now hit back, done and you should be done.
Your on T-Mobile and are receiving SMS's titled "129" that have some weird text in them?:
Congratulations! You have The Visual Voice Mail Service!
Install: Tmobile Visual VoiceMail 1_1_1_0_24_00.cab(soft reset after)
That should remove them when you get them or at the very least make them blank.
On Verizon and are receiving weird SMS's after a voicemail?
You might have the Visual Voicemail Service too!
Try this: pyrorob VZW_VisualVoiceMail_1_1_12_11.cab
About Energy Roms:
On Energy Roms there is no sms client installed besides the winmo stock one, so you just install the cab and thats it.
To adjust the outgoing message size?:
Go to your MMS server options and adjust the size to 1024. (settings/options/menu/mms server/(mms server name)/ "message size limit")
Contacts show as a number?:
it only happens when the contact has more than one number (example:cell and home) stored.
Wheres the bubbles from that picture i saw?:
yeah,no... that was a mistake by the guy who posted the article, if you looked at the pic it says in it "sense 2.1 messaging mod"
What about CDMA? Why doesnt MMS work on CDMA?:
Well, at the moment as its very tricky. Some people say they can get it working, but from what i have seen most cant.
There has been some success with verizon in post #636 and im working on sprint, but as for others.. it remains to be seen.
from angeldeath:
Adjust the number of messages shown at one time in reading pane (only works for traditional mode):
"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCMessaging\Harvey"
"MaxMessagesForOnePage"=dword:500
setting at around 50 or 100 should give a quicker loading time.

I'm running your newest cab (3127) and I've noticed the notification icons (at the top bar that shows battery/signal) have changed. I now get the same icon (letter envelope) for SMS's and Emails
well, the htc messaging client uses the same notification icon for mms and sms, which kinda sucks, imo. but it doesn't touch the one for email.. it doesn't even have anything to do with email..
Ok, this time I'm sure I followed pyrorob instructions step by step. I checked the About in the Messaging Client says "Version 1.8 (Build 2017.3127)".
How can I check the right DLL is installed?
By the way, after installation of the new Messaging Client the SMS were not send, so I tried starting the Messaging Client service and the SMS were send.
Does this have to be done or it is an indication that something went wrong?
Another issue is that the SMS Sending Network shows "Ask me" and I can't change that option, so I have to select the Sending Network each time.
Thanks in advance, pyrorob, in case you can help me.
Thanks for sharing!

Ok, first, the about wont show you anything regarding the version of that service and even if you pulled the file out of windows and checked, theres no version number shown..
Second, it depends on if you had htc messenger pre-installed.. if it was, when you set the service to manual it doesnt load at startup so its not being used, so it will be able to be overwritten by the one in the cab.
now if its part of a htc messener client cab you installed previously, after you set it to manual, soft reset and uninstall the old one, if you go to services youll see thats its no longer there. so when you install the new one you can be absolutely sure its the newer dll (the only way it will still be there, is if it was cooked into the rom (pre-installed) in the first place)
Third, if after you install and you have the sms not sent issue its because, like you pointed out, the services is not running at startup automatically. go to services and touch and hold on messaging service and set to automatic, thats fixes that.
Fourth, ( i assume you mean mms) in htc messenger go to menu/settings/options/ then again at the bottom, menu/mms server, open up whatever mms server you have there to use, and two things, make sure the "Connect via" is set for your main data connection (the one that is used for you to access the internet) and press back, the mms settings name will be highlighted and while its highlighted go to, at the bottom, menu/ "set as default". now hit back, done and you should be done.
Now, if it still shows "ask me" ill need more information, such as what cell provider your using and what options it gives you under "ask me" also, you might want to check under start/settings/connections/"advanced network" and go to the sms service tab and see what its set for.
ugh, to be honest im not a big fan of typing long paragraphs...
but i hope this answers those questions.

Messaging Client version 1.8 Build 2016.xxx is pre-installed in the NhatHoa ROM I'm using, so it think the issue with the service in your new Messaging Client is completely solved.
The other issue is still there, because at the new Messaging Client Settings the "Sending Network" option is set to "Ask me" for SMS and MMS and this option is gray out so it can't be changed.
When I tried to send a SMS, the Messaging Client shows a window to select the "Sending Network" which shows three options: C - No operator, G - No operator, Cancel.
I've been selecting G - No operator and the SMS is send without problems.
By the way, my phone is connected through GSM to my cellular provider, called ICE.
What do you think pyrorob?

ok, i assume you have a world phone tp2? thats both cdma and gsm? cause thats what the c and the g are for..
now the only line in the reg that i could see that could relate to this issue is here: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Jataayu\Messaging\Network]
"SMSPreferredNetwork"=dword:00000002
since theres no way for me to test the values and what effect they would have you might want to try changing it to 0 or 1 and seeing what the effects are.

It worked! I found [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Jataayu\Messaging\Network] "SMSPreferredNetwork" was set to 0 (dword:00000000), so I first changed to 1 and this set the "Sending Network" to CDMA at SMS Settings, so I changed to 2 and this set the "Sending Network" to GSM at SMS Settings.
I guess it will work the same on MMS, but this service is not available at my cellular provider for my phone, so there's not need to fix it.
Thanks pyrorob!
By the way. So far, on this new Messaging Client I haven't seen the weird behavior of previous builds, because its memory usage doesn't increase suddenly and for no particular reason and also its CPU usage doesn't increase suddenly and for no particular reason, too.
Actually, CPU usage seems to stay at zero when there's no messaging traffic.

It was a big thing with th_graf's cabs, but it seemed to me like it only affected tmous users. Every picture that was texted was just a tiny preview version, not the full size. From what I've read it wasn't fixed, just kind of not talked about now. I'm a bit cautious since I've had to hard reset a couple times because of it. I think I may have tried your first cab too, but it was a while ago I'm not sure.

oh, you meant as in "5KB" as in the size of the file.. you had put down 5k which i was confused with cause it seemed like you were talking about something to do with 5000..
ok, well, using this cab, i sent myself a photo i took with the camera on my hd2, while it got sent out at 600KB (which is the size it was originally) it gets received at 72KB, which is because of tmobile. it seems while they have a maximum outgoing cap of 1024kB (i think) they resize the incoming picture for mms to under 75KB, now i have seen on other threads that this only happens to mms, if your were to send out the file to an email address using the messaging client, it would be received at the size it was originally sent at. to me it seems tmo needs to update there systems to resize to a higher size..

It just happened that the registry settings form "SMSPreferredNetwork" and "MMSPreferredNetwork" changed automatically back to 0, which seems to mean "Ask me".
I manually changed them back to 2, but after a while they went automatically back again to 0.
What can be happening pyrorob?
im not sure, im thinking it might be something outside of the messaging client causing that issue..
hi pyrorob
