First of all, I had some minor problems getting Activesync to recognize my 8525. (XP, Net 2.0). After a couple of driver updates or whatever, it finally worked!
I tried flashing to a different ROM but had problems during the HardSPL procedure. I stopped it, but THEN had some problems trying to connect my 8525 to the PC!! (Activesync again, ugh!) I uninstalled & re-installed Activesync like 3 times, and FINALLY got it to work again!
Now I have problems installing .CAB files to my 8525. I keep on getting the warning:
"The program is from an unknown publisher. You should install it only...."
I press "YES" and it comes as "unsuccessful".
I press "NO" and I get the "... program cannot be installed because it is not digitally signed with a trusted certificate".
Besides having installation problems, I also noticed that Activesync keeps on disappearing/uninstalling from my PC. I have to install Activesync 4.5 every time I turn on the PC.
Can some one tell me what's going on? What should I do? Should I do a "HARD RESET"? (I have done a SOFT RESET but to no avail). I would appreciate some help. Thanks!
I found out that I shouldn't do a HARD RESET because it will erase the "unlocked" feature in my phone. (I bought the phone unlocked).
I have researched the wiki, and some threads, and ACTUALLY someone else had this problem, way back in 2006. (The .CAB problem). But no one responded.
I also had to uninstall a program I had previously installed in my 8525 due to the fact that it stopped responding. It just wouldn't work anymore. I got the same "unsigned certificate" message.
I guess I'm going to RE-INSTALL Activesync ALLL over again. Maybe it will help it or something...
(This is literally going to be like the 5th time I install Activesync. And I just got the 8525).
IF ANYBODY CAN HELP ME WITH THE .CAB PROBLEM I WOULD APPRECIATE IT.
(I'm running WM6 Pro, AT&T)
freakin piece of crap!
its STILL NOT WORKING!!!!!
It USED TO WORK! I used to be able to install .CAB files. I have only installed 2 .cab files into internal memory (NO external. dont have one yet). I installed Opera Mini, and Wifi Radar. I also installed a couple of themes. I also installed animated themes but deleted them since they wouldn't work. (I think they required some other stuff). I also deleted all the themes except for one.
THEN one day, i tried doing that HardSPL-V7, and I got to the last step but quit since I got an error telling me that if I continue the (usb?)device could stop working.
Another time I tried installing SPB Finance 2.8 .CAB and that's when I noticed it would no longer install .CAB files. (It also won't install directly using .exe)
I researched Google and the forums, and found out a guy that had the same problem (no one responded).
Today I noticed that Pocket Wifi Radar wouldn't run. It said something about the certificates. I uninstalled it, tried to install it again, but it wasn't successful.
So far this has been the history of my 8525. Could it be because the "certificates" were installed in the ORIGINAL computer profile? Since I have installed Activesync many times, I noticed every time it creates a new profile. For example, the first time it was called "Windows PC". Then it was called "Windows PC2". Just right now I installed it again, and it was going to be named "Windows PC3", but I changed the name to something else, and of course it still didn't work.
Could ANYBODY give me some tips as to what I should do? Thank you.
go to settings>connections>usb to pc. uncheck "enable advanced network functionality".
if it syncs a few times with no problems run unlocker tool found in upgrades section. then hard spl then if you feel game enough upgrade os with one of your choice.
Hope this helps... cheers
holy cow, relax guy. you are not the only person to ever get the not digitally signed message.

as for the hardspl problem, i responded to that thread you created, didnt you see?
Ok, I tried what you mentioned ultra, and I got this message upon connecting the 8525 to the PC. (BTW, this is the SAME message that appeared when I was attempting to install HardSPL-V7),
HTC USB Sync
has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatability with
Windows XP.
Continuing your installation of this software may impair or disabilize the correct operation of your system either immediately or in the future. Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation now and contact the hardware vendor for software that has passed Windows Logo testing.
I pressed "Continue" and it installed HTC USB Sync. But then I got the a message telling me "Activesync 4.5 or greater needs to be installed" (even though it IS installed). I ran through the setup again, and it would only let me "repair" or "uninstall". I pressed "repair". Afterwards it asked me to "restart". I did. Then upon loading back up, I connected the 8525 to the PC again, and I got the SAME message again (the one about it not passing Windows Logo). This time I pressed "STOP" and then I got the message about HTC USB Sync not being installed in the computer.
I have been fed up with the problems the 8525 has been giving me. My Clie UX was so much easier to manage. Quick question, I am REALLY leaning on doing a HARD RESET, but I think/kinda know, that if I do, it will ERASE WM6 correct? And go back to WM5?
Oh and yes xtreme, I have searched this on the search bar. And yes, I know you replied back, but you were referring to the Hard SPL. I am having problems w/ installing .CAB files.

dont hit stop dude, u're suppose to hit continue. hitting stop prevents the drivers from being installed and then the RUU wont run
Well I did press "Continue" the first time and I did not see any improvements. I just saw that it installed "HTC USB Sync".
I AM able to successfully install Activesync, I just can't get .CAB files to install.
Could it be because I pressed "STOP" whenever I tried using HardSPL? Should I try and run HardSPL AGAIN and this time pressing "Continue"?
Oh, and are you sure I'm supposed to press "Continue"? After all, I do get that error about Microsoft strongly recommends that you stop this installation. It sounds fishy pressing "Continue".
I just installed Activesync ALLLL over again, but this time in the D:/ drive... still the same .CAB problem.
Oh, and I no longer have the problem where Activesync would uninstall by itself. I noticed it fixed itself yesterday.
BUT I'm still having problems installing .CAB files.
1). hard reset will reset it back to factory its true BUT, and like j-lo's this is a big but, it will re install the last os on the phone (wm6) NOT the stock rom...
2). are you installing the .cab files from the computer or copying them to the memory card and installing from there?
If you install the .cab from the memory card it seems to work fairly well (at least from my experience). if its in a .exe format then it runs from the computer and requires activesync. if you have the .cab file then my suggestion is try to run it from the memory card.. Cheers..
Try installing the SDK certificates and see if that helps
Finally Works!!!!! Hard Reset!
OK, so I've been up for about 3hrs straight trying to figure this out. Reinstalled/uninstalled activesync... tried installing HardSPL again (twice)... didn't work. So I was like, you know what...f* it. I'm going to do a Hard Reset. I'm just gonna try it.
IT WORKED!!!! AND IT STILL STAYED IN WM6!!!! And I think it's still unlocked (although I've read from threads that a HR will disable the unlocked feature).
I AM GLAAAAD THAT I CAN INSTALL FILES NOW!!!! YAY!! (hehe). THANKS TO THOSE WHO TRIED TO HELP!!! SERIOUSLY. It feels really bad when no one tries to help you, even though you don't have a CLUE as to what to do.
** I solemnly swear I will no longer try to use HardSPL or try flashing to a different ROM*. I will use the ROM that came with the phone, and be glad everything is WORKING **
*= at least for until a couple of more months
AND for those who are having this problem (and it's a lot of ppl, based from search results), try a HARD RESET. It helped me anyways.
"and like j-lo's this is a big but"
Glad it worked but I wouldnt allow one bad experiance to turn you off flashing... If I were you I'd still flash hard spl ( in case you find something that you really like). It DOES make it easier to fix "bricks". But just to satisfy your curiosity, go to bootloader and see if it says that you have 2.10 or 2.30 SPL. Also if you want to try flashing, try the sd card method. Its a heap safer (from my experience) than flashing by activesync. Check the wiki for how to do it.
PS. you dot need to reformat the sd card. if you have all the stuff you want on it then just copy the .nbh to the root of the sd card and rename to "hermimg.nbh", it will load as soon as the hermes is put into bootloader and you wont have to re-install anything. Works every time for me and I've done it about 30 or 40 times...Cheers......

i think his problem is that he can't install .cab files period. he's having the same problem as me. my first phone had that prob, i updated .net 2.0 and it was fine. got my second phone here, update .net to 3.5, but still can't transfer/execute ANY cab files to my phone. the pc just doesn't recognize the phone period. i can't copy/paste, can't push anything through onto my phone. it's crazy. so what else can we do? i'd like to think i'm pretty tech savvy, but this isn't cool LOL
Hello,
now I cannot execute a 'not signed' .exe from my diamond, because of the 'not signed' error message.
I tried to see the first steps of the android port on the diamond touch. I had to remove the battery to stop the application. Since, it's not possible for me to execute any non-signed application (total commander, putty, ...).
Did you find a clean solution? I prefer not to go through the steps of reinstalling a new firmware (windows isn't accessible on my computer & I have a rather old backup of my diamond's files).
I allready have a hardspl, because my orginal ROM is from SFR (french operator)... and I prefer the original HTC version which is more beautiful & more uptodate.

Trying the same thing for my Diamond after trying out Android on it.
Same problem here. Running android 1.0 got me into this trouble.
(Running android 0.8 multiple times did not cause this problem.)
Did anybody find a better solution than hard reset?

Hello everybody
I have a HTC Shift on which Win XP was recently installed . The problem is that it doesn't see the Snapvue part - I can't open it and can't acccess the Comm manager either. In Snapvue I just get a white screen, with the HTC logo - and the comm manager button (upper right) doesn't do anything when pressed.
The guy who installed the Win XP said something about using Active sync to enable communication between the 2 processors (?!) - The device has Active Sync installed, but it just tells me it can't synchronize.
I am a girl, as you probably noticed, and know very little about computers and stuff....Could someone save me? I ned a step-by-step guide for solving this problem, but written for DUMMIES (such as me
I also understand I could reset the device to the original Vista - but have no idea how to do it?!
Please help - I've been looking at my Shift for 3 whole days, and am getting al depressed..
Thanks in advance!

Did you turn off the device completely? I would remove it from the power, remove the battery, and give a 10 to 20 secs and put battery back and boot it.
Let me know if you have issues.
To restore it to Vista, if the recovery partition is not swiped, just press Fn+3 at the boot time and once it goes into recovery, and just follow the steps.
didn't work....
I tried removing the battery, nothing happened
When I press Fn + 3, it just goes on and starts Windows XP normally (the xp "half" works allright - it's the comm and snapvue which are dead )
Any other idea? Is there any hope ?
oww, now it's really nasty!
I insisted on pressing the FN+3 , and after one or two questions (if I wanted to continue etc) it said "invalid data on recovery partition" - and now the screen just shows black and there's no winxp anymore - I suppose I should write some commands, as there's a white line blinking....but I don't know how to do it.....Heeeelp!
If XP has been installed in place of Vista, then the recovery partition has been wiped, so FN + 3 will not work for recovering Vista.
The Vista (or XP) side and the snapvue side are two totally different entities, so you can wipe the hard drive and snapvue will still work, as it lives in ROM.
So you have 2 separate problems, you need to re-install an OS, and you need to find out why snapvue is not booting.
I managed to enter the bios ( pressed DEL) and it says that hard drive Toshiba etc is "disabled" - so no wonder it can't boot...
Could I do something to enable it or whatever?
Or should I give up ?
Hi,
Who installed XP for you?
Since you need to now 1 or 2 things about computers to do so, I think that person is the one who can help you and do it the quickest....
Other wise you need to post a message after every step and then wait for one of us to respond.... that would take days if not weeks....
Given your name, I guess you don't live near Enschede, the netherlands do you?
Otherwise You could come by and I could give it a go....
greetz,
Pfeffa-rah
no, I live in France at the moment! But thanks for the offer anyway!
I guess I'll just take the thing to a repair shop or something
As for my name, it's "Clockwork Orange" inspired - I'm a great fan of the movie, although I'm French.
No comments regarding the guy who installed the XP! We must keep this discussion civilised!
Thanks a lot , everybody!
Hy all. I have a Siemens SX66 phone and currently have WM 6.1 flashed onto it. I've tried to flash WM 6.5 onto it and keep getting an error saying that it can't detect my device, even though it's definitely connected and synced with my PC. The versions I've tried to flash onto my phone are the standard and premium versions of the ROM. Does this ROM not flash onto the SX66, and if it does, what is it that I'm doing wrong for it to not see my device? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
if you run Windows Vista or above, pls refer to Wiki for the correct driver.
If you are running XP, you must kill ActiveSync (go to task manager and kill wescommgr.exe and rapimgr.exe). Also, make sure that your device is in bootloader prior to cradling the device.
On a side note, please do not open multiple threads with the same question on it. In fact, please search for an answer (either google, wiki, or xda's search engine) prior to starting a new thread. Thanks.

egzthunder1,
I am indeed running Windows XP. In following your directions, Activesync kept popping up automatically whenever I plugged the phone into the cradle. I would kill the 2 exe files you mentioned in the task manager, but they would just pop back up, so I went a step further and uninstalled activesync completely. I then plugged the phone into the cradle, ran "BaUpgradeUt" from the WM 6.5 package (the download is "Windows Mobile6.5Professional(QVGA)v7.9.25_HTCBA ROM"), and I STILL keep getting the same error message when I run the progrm, which is "Error 103: ROM Image File Not Found". I currently have the WM 6.1 ROM installed on the phone if that makes any difference. Any help to figure this problem out would be greatly appreciated.
you get that error, because you shouldn't use baupgrade, but MAupgradeut_noID.exe first of all. make sure the folder containing those two mentioned files also contains a "nk.nbf" file, because that is the rom

Chef_Tony is right on the money. The noID version was developed for this same exact reason. Also, you are correct about ActiveSync as it does pop up again, but if the device is cradled in bootloader mode, the PC will only recognize the device as an USB device rather than a pda. Therefore, AS will not sync with it and it will just be opened in the background.
I believe that there is an app called KillActiveSync somewhere in the Dev & Hacking section, which truly kills AS and prevents it from running. You could search for it if you need it, but it seems that your main problem was that you were in fact using the wrong RUU. Anyway, good luck, mate!

My friend, all I see is 2 things. #1, you are not placing your phone on Bootloader. That is why Active Sync is popping up. #2, after you uninstalled Active Sync, the upgrade utility cannot see the phone. Thats why you get the error. Install Active sync 4.5 again. Make sure you place your phone in bootloader, and follow the steps here
Good Luck.

Hello there,
Ive been running around this forum since yesterday night trying to change my qtek2020 from wm2003 to wm6. But there's a lot of dust in the air... to much information, most of it very old, so... here's where i am right now.
1-I've downloaded a rom ( a nb.nbf file)
2- donwloaded a program called HimaUpgradeUt_noID.exe, that I know it's used to install the roms.
But now, I connect the ppc to the usb cable (in vista) and run humaUpgradeUt_noID.exe, select the .nbf file and "next" it, but it always to no success.
I've tryed booting the qtek in "bootloader mode" but all I see is a "Serial v1.03" screen and nothing happens, even when connected.
So, can anyone give me a turorial on how to do this?
Thanx
the rom packets should include a readme.txt which should give a step by step guide
Thanx for your reply.
The problem is that I can't connect to my laptop on bootloader mode.
When turned on, it can connect to my laptop, but in bootloader mode it doesnt, the pocket stays in the "serial v1.03" screen.
Nevermind... solved,
As simple as... removing the SD card... LOL
The SD card is never the reason in upgrading the device using vista.

First of all, I apologize if I'm in the wrong thread.
I recently flashed my HTC HD2 and upgraded it to Windows 7 from its factory-loaded Windows 6.5. Since then, I have not been able to do anything via web on it (Marketplace, Facebook, even set-up my personal email accounts). I've toggled my connection settings plenty of times, and nothing seems to work. It keeps asking me for my Windows Live ID, but when I enter it, nothing happens because there is no internet connection. (Don't know if this is important but in case this helps: I am not in a Wi-Fi zone.) Also, it won't read my sd card either, which has music, pictures, documents, etc. As a matter of fact, the only things that I can do is call in and out, and send and receive texts. I am not liking this version of Windows too much, and would like to know, step-by-step, what to do to uninstall it and return to my safe and familiar Windows 6.5 world.
When I upgraded from 6.5 to 7, I downloaded and used ActiveSync, and it worked fine. Now, while in Win 7, when I plug the phone into my computer, my ActiveSync won't identify it.
And by the way, I tried to hard reset it, thinking that would work, but it just reset it back to Windows 7.
I just want my Windows 6.5 back as soon as possible. Any information to get me back to that point would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, no offense meant here, but I don´t understand both of you guys...

There are so many great tutorials here in the forums. If you would have carefully read some more than you obviously have, then you would have avoided some of the nasty problems you have with WP7.
Also, you wouldn´t ask about a "step-by-step" instruction on what to do now.
Unfortunately, some key information is missing here, therefore, the only link I can give you is this: Click me! You should know this one already, if not, read it item by item.
Then flash the ROM which fits your device. Do *not* flash before you know exactly which ROM you need. You might brick your phone.
Oh, and btw: Was the music on your SD card when you flashed with WP7? If yes, it´s no wonder your device cannot read it, the SD card is wiped clean during the first start.

Is this a shortcut? Kind of to avoid flashing back to WinMo 6.5 and keeping WP7? Because he maybe wiped the SD card clean?
Come on, he clearly asked how to flash another ROM, Zune cannot be the answer.
The information that you gave me is very helpful.
However, again, I'm at a standstill. I'm trying to download a stock rom, but I still need to find a way for my computer (Windows XP) to sync with my HTC HD2 (Windows Phone 7). ActiveSync won't read it, and my OS won't allow me to use WMDC!
(And just so you'll know, I didn't have my sd card installed in my phone when I flashed it.)

..again you havent bothered to read anything.
You can stick the stock rom on your SD card and rename it "leoimg.nbh" and then power phone into bootloader by powering obn phone while holding volume down button. No need for activesync/usb or windows XP.
do you have t mobile network if you do just go to settings cellular and where it says 3g connection and hit apn settings and type in epc.tmobile.com and hit the check button at the bottom and you should be set. if you dont have t mobile just find out the network apn for your network.
...even if the phone doesn't read the sd card anymore since i uploaded win 7???
=.=
You've been lectured to go out and read some threads for info, and yet you still persist with these questions that could be answered if you searched...
Anyways on topic, you say your phone does not recognize the sd card? Well try formatting the sd card with panasonic formatter then. Then put the files for reverting back to stock rom onto the root of your sd card, and then boot your phone into bootloader mode, which is the tri color screen. After that, your phone should recognize the file and revert back to winmo.
I know I COULD look through threads (and that's what I've been doing), but I just want to cut to the chase without all that geek talk. (What's the point of having a website like this if one couldn't ask questions?) Plus, now I know who to thank if it works (and who to blame if it doesn't).
Thanks for all the help. I'll let you know what happens.
It's not about what you could do... It's about what you should do.
Anyways, whilst this forum may be about Q&A's, populating a Q&A with the same questions, and the same answers sounds stupid, no?
Well hope it works for you.

Hey Why are you even here then? YOU cant be bothered reading because of "geek" talk and all of a sudden its OTHER peoples fault if YOU break your phone?
If YOU don't want to read through threads that explain how to do these things as simply as possible already and actually LEARN somthing, Then why should someone retype those threads for you especially as you STILL wont understand it because it will contain the SAME terms and referances, and require YOU to STILL do some research, Just like EVERYBODY else here HAD TO DO. If you think there is some way to break the existing well explained threads down into BABY BABBLE that FOOLS who go rushing in with no clue might understand, then you are sadly mistaken. Cut your losses and buy either a dumbphone or an iphone. They are made for people like you. Just dont try jailbreaking, thats probrobly tooo complicated for you as well.
Oh and way to go insult the very people you are asking for help. dumbass.
Thanks to all those who actually helped.
Here's what I've been able to do thus far:
1.) Reformat SD card to FAT32 allocation
2.) Found and downloaded stock rom
3.) Extracted "RUU_signed.nbh" from there
4.) Transferred it to SD card (base folder)
5.) Renamed it "leoimg.nbh"
6.) Inserted SD card into phone
7.) Turned phone on into bootloader mode (tri-color)
8.) Nothing happens
I've dowloaded several versions of stock roms and tried each one, but none has worked yet. I've even renamed it using all caps ("LEOIMG.nbh") thinking that that MIGHT make a difference...it didn't.
Anyway, did I mess up somewhere? Is there something else that I'm missing?
Help!
Other information that might help:
This is what appears on my bootloader screen:
PB81120 HX-B3
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x50
Trying to uninstall Windows 7 and reload Windows 6.5, which is what I started out with on my phone.
Thanks!!!

If you have looked around you wouldn't need that much help, there is many threads about this already, And this whole "geek talk" is nothing but common sense buddy. If you can't figure out how to flash back and people have pointed you in the right direction, then you should never flash again and stick with wm6.5
Steps...Try This

I understand, where he is coming from, not everyone coming to this site are geeks/devs(am myself a dev) and can easily get confused with all the forums...
I understand your problems are may be unique, so here are the steps you can try and hopefully these wotk for you..
**Read the steps completely and keep the files ready before
starting this process to save time later..
1. Go into bootloader (tri color screen)..should say 'Serial' in the middle of the screen.
2. Pause/stop your PC antivirus
3. Next connect your phone with USB to your computer, the screen should now say USB instead of Serial
4. Now run Task29*
5. Turn off your phone(by taking the battery out) and turn it back again and go into bootloader mode
6. Install the latest official HTC HD2 Win6.5 Rom*(2.15.50.14 or something)..NOTE: Just the rom which you can get from threads here in XDa forums, not the whole OS.
7. Format your SD card(panasonic formatter), use setting low level (with delete), this will take around 5-10 mins depending on your sd card mem size.
8. Now get the latest official Win 6.5 ROm from HTC and install it using the SD card method as mentioned before.
(Note, please read some posts to find out how to do this correctly)
The above should work , for the most cases.
Let me know, if it helps you or not.
Hi,
I read all the thread on how to remove windows 7 on HTC HD2, but when I hold the volume button down and press the power key, I see the bootloader screen, but then the "loading" page never comes. I tried it several times. And I also revive my SD card before doing that. Now my phone doesn't even have any more memory. SO I can text, can't add music. When I connect my phone through the USB cable, the PC doesn't open Zune windows. So it doesn't recognize the presence of the phone.
Do you know what is wrong? Thank you for any idea on that.
Anyone having similar issues try these for starters:

This is why your phone does not work. I flashed to WP7 from stock TMoUS WinMo and have not had any problems since. You have to read and understand what this geek talk means before you start screwing with your phone. I didn't know any either but I learned it thanks to all the tutorials and FAQs here at XDA. You can't do a heart transplant without learning anatomy first.

it connects to routers fine, but unless you have the hidden wifi network app you cant connect to hidden networks, i suggest you try lowering the security settings on the router (disconnect your PC if you must) and try again, if it connects to an open network then you just need to make sure the settings are correct for WPA
its also worth noting that wifi not working at all, ie it doesnt see any networks is a typical sign of an SD card issue
thnx for the reply
