Any way to keep the virtual keyboard on during auto rotate? - G1 General

Yup, that's it. It's pretty annoying when i'm typing and the screen rotates and you have to open the vk again. any ideas? Thanx

bueller...bueller...anybody...anybody
Is there no one else who feels this is possibility? Bumping this up, hoping to get some response. MODS....Forgive me if I repost in the dev section, for lack of responses here.

It's doesn't seem like a big deal.

maybe, but it sure bugs the crap out of me. If anyone has any suggestions on trying, I don't mind. I've got nandroid, but I don't know where to start.

yes i agree its annoying, i have always wondered why its not there. i could have sworn a custom rom had it, or a custom keyboard download before cupcake

i have tried almost all the dream ports and so far all of them cut out when you rotate. Mine likes to rotate a LOT whilst typing. This would have to be modified in the code i'm sure. I don't have a clue how to do that though.

No window animations ever in cyanogen builds

I posted this in Cyanogen's main thread but it got pretty much overlooked. So I'm posting here
So I've been using Cyanogen builds for quite a while now and absolutely love them them. One problem I've had consistently with every build since the beginning is that window animations are pretty much non-existent. The transitions are fine though. Animations are enabled in settings and in spare parts, any setting i put it on other than very slow makes it seem like window animations are off. The very slow setting just makes it super choppy. I've searched and not found anybody else having this problem or at least not like me. I don't have apps2sd or swap going. Just the straight fat32. Tried it with the three partitions and same thing. Transitions are fine but window animations are crap. Other non Cyanogen builds work fine. If anybody can point me in the right direction or help me out that would be awesome. Fortunately the Cyan builds are so awesome that I can look past crappy window animations but it would be nice Thanks guys
anybody?
So no one has had or has even heard of this happening? Surely its something simple that can just be fixed through the terminal or something...
I remeber seeing ur post in his main thread. It works for me on normal speed. Have u tryed wiping and reflashing?

Oh yeah for sure. Countless times. I've used tons of different roms and wiped almost everytime I switch. I always end up coming back cyanogen though. The more I think about it though its not all window animations that are bad. Like when a menu pops up from the bottom or when the volume fades in and out. Its really only when I press and hold that whichever window it pulls up doesn't animate well. Such as pressing and holding the home screen.
Have u posted this on cyanogenmod.com under the issues tab, its worth a shot. If cyanogen can reproduce it he will most likely fix it.

keyboard lag!!!!

I have seen a few people saying that darchs roms have virtually no keyboard lag compared to the sprint builds. Has anyone come up with a good solution or app alternative in the sprint 2.1 roms to reduce keyboard lag. I love the new roms but the lag is slowly eating away at me. I must have gotten spoiled.
Yes, I agree. Perhaps it has something to do with the voice input? The keyboard was soooo smooth on DC1.

can anyone confirm that the older keyboard is faster? I'll flash that ****er in a heartbeat if it is. I might try swipe too, I see that swipe light link up, looking pretty tempting.
The new XDA-modified keyboard definitely has more lag than the stock HTC keyboard.

Actually no. Both keyboards gave me ridiculous lag in the new 2.1's. However, ever since I applied a new Rosie theme through MetaMorph, believe it or not, I have little to no keyboard lag now.
Well I did notice that the new keyboard lagged very bad, so i ended up going back to the stock keyboard. It still has some lag, but it is noticeably faster than the new one.
Turn off any kind of feedback (vibration and sound) if you have not done so already.
with all types of feedback off, I still lag on the new keyboard. I did slightly on the old one, but this is noticeable.
I agree, the new, updated keyboard is significantly laggier. And smiley's and the voice to text button (which isn't even very accurate). I would obviously be ideal is someone could come up with a solution to make the new one less laggy.
In the mean time, does anyone have a good tutorial for switching back to the old keyboard?
Give me a minute or so and I'll have a batch script that'll get the new one back for you... You DO have the old keyboard, right? Or do you need that too?
Batch script to reinstall old keyboard
Hey. Here is the batch script as promised. Make sure you put the script, as well as the old HTC_IME.apk in the SAME DIRECTORY that ADB is located. If you need the old HTC_IME.apk, you can google for it or find a ROM, extract it, then go to /system/app and copy it out.
Hmm, now that it was mentioned, 1.0 did have almost no lag with the keyboard. I am back running 1.5 right now. Waiting for OEM 2.1.
i agree. this keyboard lag is pissing me off. i can't take it.
if there a way to allocate some resources to the keyboard. i don't use the vibration but i do use the sound. it makes me know that i pressed something and makes my feel more secure when i am pressing another button so the sound is a must for me.
Flipz put a zip on the first page of his fresh Rom. I flashed it a little while ago. It's a little bit faster, not a ton though. I'm sure someone will have it running quick soon enough.
can you explain this keyboard a bit more???
i would like to try it out if possible. i like the smileys but i only used it twice and i like the voice command but i only used to to show it off.
I use shapewriter, and it's just as quick as it was on any other rom, even stock. and I can type (well, shape) much faster
Hi guys
Yes.. there is a bad lag...
I found a small fix
there is a "pop up" setting in keyboard setting
it is set to 750...change it to a lower setting. I have mine on 300.
Also change the vibrate length to 15 and enable it..
This helped my lag... but itis not gone!

Total Rotation... (hack/app request)

Any devs out there wanna give this a go?
I would love to be able to rotate my phone in any direction and have the screen flip like on my omnia... I know sense doesn't flip to landscape, thats not a prob, what I really want is to be able to flip the phone upside down and still use it as the correct rotation.
Reason I want to be able to do this is so I can use my phone in the cup holder of my car again, and to do this it must be upside down because of the charger placement... (same as on my Omnia)
Seems a pretty simple request, would be nice if it could auto run and run in the background without using up to much resources to.
If anyone is able to do this, would be awesome.
Thanks
Seconded ... but
I too would like to be able to rotate at least the other way; when showing off the Incredible, people rotate to landscape the other way and nothing happens, so they figure it doesn't rotate. I have to say "no turn it the other way" but it would be great to just not have to think about it.
BUT ... regarding the OP ... I simply took a dremel to the dash mount I bought (the beanbag, since California law doesn't allow sticking to the window in the middle). Carved out enough for a charger, and am done with it
I'd also like to see this. Anyone know the reasoning behind only allowing landscape mode by rotating to the left, and not the right? Even my old BB storm could handle rotation in both directions.
Agreed. This would be useful.

I would think it's because the majority of the world is right-handed and by rotating to the left, the optical track button is on the right side. I could complain because I'm left-handed, but hey at least my phone still has a signal when I hold it in my left hand, unlike other phones out there
This is an option in the cyanogen rom available in the rom manager. If you can look past the few bugs in the rom you can enjoy the 360 degree rotation you are looking for.

I've been running this cyanogen ROM since it came out and this is the 2nd thing you have pointed out to me in the settings that i didn't know about. I need to look through all the settings much more thoroughly.

My phone aint even rooted yet, for some reason I've tried everything and won't allow me to get into adb recovery... anyways, if it's in another rom, it must be possible, if someone could make this an app!! it would be awesome.
Then we wouldn't have limits as to which rom we would have to use.
...just a thought...

Thanks Mikey for re-opening this thread , you can delete the Why thread now if you like...
So anyone know if any of this is possible?

Incredibly hard to put cursor in specific spot in browser

I've had the S2 for a week or two now and I'm finding my main gripe with it is selecting text in the browser.
If you've written a block of text, or several sentences (whatever), I find tapping your sentence to place the cursor at a specific point utterly hit and miss. It's really, really hard to get it where you want it.
I mostly use the stock browser as it's way faster than any other I've tried (Dolphin and Firefox), but this is driving me insane. It's not quite as bad in Dolphin, but it's still pretty bad.
I have to say, the iPhone is way ahead when it comes to placing the cursor where you want it. I'm hanging for a mod that uses the little magnifying glass thing that the iPhone has.
Is anyone else bothered by this and found a solution?
Thanks
Simon
Ah ha!
Tried Opera Mini just now and it worked perfectly! The problem, then, appears to be the browsers.
Whatever, I'm just glad one of them works as it should

Yep...i had the same grief..... its a pain in the arse.
Same so used to iphone browser. Ill try opera mini
One of the few things I wish they would nick from the iPhone. HTC have done it with their new versions of Sense, why can't Google do it with Android in general or Samsung with their devices?
Love em or hate em but I really miss the trackball on the N1. Both for this reason and being able to quicly nab closely spaced link without zooming.
You could download the Gingerbread Keyboard App in the market and use the included D-Pad. I can't live without it.
Regards.
I use gingerbread keyboard and I don't think it has a d-pad..!

Isn't this a generic Android issue as I have encountered it on all the Android phones I have owned as far as I can remember?
Keep in mind the stock browser uses hardware acceleration. I'd guess that anything else is going to be slower.

Alternate keyboards work with Droid Pro w. GB

That's right, you can now try swype . The only thing to figure out is how to make swype only activate in landscape mode. Tasker perhaps?
Anyway, not really worth the time on this phone except that it's something else to show off to your friends.
nvm my previous post
Hah that's pretty cool. It will take me a bit to get used to I think but this might just come in handy if I have to type a lot in one sitting. Kinda like I'm doing now.
