[IDEA][DEVS NEEDED][Probably BOUNTY] Tumblr for Windows Mobile - First sketch!!! - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

The blogging-service Tumblr is really great but it would be even better if we had a mobile application (like the iPhone guys do).
I´m no developer myself but I hope someone could help. Of course I´m prepared to donate and I think others are as well.
[For users:]
If you are prepared to donate please post the amount you would donate, if the app delivers you needs and wishes.
[Bounty so far:]
20€ by me for a fully functional, good looking app.
10$ by hrhnick for full dashboard experience
[For devs:]
Here is the API documentation, seams like normal HTTP requests and some XML.
I could help with graphics as well (if needed). Here is a first sketch how the app could look like, I simply took the graphics from the official site and put them together in Photoshop.

def interested. i'd donate for the full tumblr dashboard experience. $10 USD

Maybe everyone adds the amount of money he/she is willing to donate!

Posted a first sketch of how the UI could look like. Basically I think a mobile app of a service that already exists should always resemble the look. I´m not sure how far my sketch is doable in reality (I´d say that depends on the dev ^^) but basic things like the logo or the colors are realistic.

Screenshot from the opensource app "OpenTumblr"
Its pretty much scaled to the right small factor, and runs on Windows, Linux, and Mac. Maybe a dev could port/modify it to PPC?

I don't use tumblr but any thoughts on using a java version? Here are two:
http://www.daneshzaki.com/post/42011810/tumblej1-1
http://code.google.com/p/tumblrj/downloads/list

I hate Java...nevertheless I will try it, thanks for the tip.
EDIT: Ok, I did a bit of binging and found a Windows-client based on .NET; maybe this Open-Source app could provide the basis for a mobile .NET app!
http://feedfeast.com/wintumblr/

im so jealous with Iphone users because they have this app for free.. but i can still donate 10$ for using this apps.. this is the best UI that Tumblr client should have..

have now become opensource!
let the magic begin devs!
http://feedfeast.com/wintumblr

the bounty is too low
to be honest, no dev in the right mind will go for a mere 50 dollar bounty which asks for a full function. i'm writing one right now and to include the full dashboard experience with only a 10 dollar and 20 uero promise is crazy.i have better luck posting it in market place when its done later, even with cut down funtionality and sell it at 2.99.
update,
just studied the source for wintumblr and for the moment, i think an app for posting is totally achievable, but for an app with dashboard... might take longer.
now i have a working text and photo posting function. its enough for me. will post screenies from the device emulator later.

I tried both of the java ones on my HD2 and when it asks if I want to install, it attempts to then says the file is corrupt. :/

for testing purposes only. If you like it, Please purchase the program to support the author.
[PP: link deleted]
So let me get this straight. You bought the program for $22, like I did, and are now posting it here? And since you're posting it on this BB, it uploaded it to xda-developers servers, which means xda-developers are now hosting pirated software? Not something a webmaster wants to find on his site in this day and age.
Doesn't quite sound like a smart idea, now does it?
We may be hackers here, but not pirates!
I think he forgot to mention that he posted it for testing purposes only and that if the person likes it they will purchase the program themselves so enabling the author to carry on programming and feeding his family from his efforts.
tho i dont support piracy, i must admit, programs are very expensive now days! i mean $22 for this?
i got several games for $6 - $15. and quite good ones too!
why dont they keep prices low? its not like they're making state of the art programs! most are like a pig&poke.
the ONE program i refuse to pay full price for is the iastyle caller id, and that is because they give v2.0 for free , yet they charge $16 for v1.0
thats not right. atleast drop the price!
Can't get it to work anyway :?
think it is a kind of a bait. the file isnt working. think it is a fake.
I fixed it...
it seems very strange that when upload the programs to this server...It is modified automatically.
so I just put the file in my server, it is ok now.
if you like it, please do purchase it to support the author.
Granted the trial version only supports 6 calls, but really - how many of us really go out and purchase things we downloaded full-version for free unless we have an ultra-guilty conscience.
Oh, and to get it working I found you need to put nothing in for country code (even though it complains). Most of my contacts are formatted (xxx) xxx-xxxx not +1 (xxx) xxx-xxxx like the program seems to expect.

You post in this thread and ask why prices are high?
If piracy grows prices will grow too... It's a simple calculation:
Product price = Development costs / (estimated) number of purchases

Well Im not an economist but I know the converse is also true. High cost of softwares (compared to what is reasonable for the usefulness of a particular software) actually drives piracy. $22 or about 1/10 of the cost of Windows XP is too much for this particular software. I will be glad to get a pirated copy!!!!!!! But if this is say $5. I will be ashamed to steal it.
Give it a try and reduce the price of this software and see if turnover will not increase.
NB: The software is good, though!
Hello again,
since there are not many devices on market (compared to windows XP machines) the price must be like $80 per copy ...
But I noticed one simple fact now. Most people of you don't want software for mobile devices...
So I think about a very simple thing. I will stop making software for mobile devices and wait until their are MANY users and I can provide cheaper versions.
Maik
Hi
Better stop this discussion as it is.
I already bought this product. It is good. Compared to CallerFirewall (you'll find it on this site, somewhere), it offers the possibility of having different profiles (but the other program is free).
One thing I noticed though, is that in order to work, this program must be kept running minimized. So if you have a task manager that actually closes programs when you press the X button, you should not use it. There should be an option to keep it running on the command bar, or present it as a today plug-in.
Hello,
the closing by taskmanagers will be fixed by the upcoming update (I think we will release it this week).
Maik
For the people that use SPB PocketPlus, this task manager contains a feature to add programs to an "ignore" list. You could add smartfilter.exe ... works like a charm.

it works now, but i dont like the idea of a web browser app... if there's enough votes, I can build a (awesome looking + fast), app store (more like a repo, but will work the same way)...
I know php, so im thinking have a web portal for devs/app-makers to upload apps to... and then have an client app as a download portal... and I can prolly make it have a metro-esque UI... i have a huge collection of apps, but most of them are paid, so unless lets say gameloft decides to upload them to the repo and get paid through an app like this... theres no way to put those on there even :-/... if you guys want one for free apps/games... jsut comment below...
Hey, this is a great idea and could blow up in a big way for the forum users/cooks! Even if you did an app, the cooks could have you put in a section for them so you could link their ROMs and tweaks all in one handy location. Problem I see is so many people wanting it to be updated all the time and you not having the time to do it; and I doubt you would get enough donations to make this a full time job! But I do think this is a great idea, app or browser based! Looks promising so far!
my plan is to make it into an app it was just a little test only spent a few min on it last night. Just design stage at the moment.
cool... yea lemme know if u need help... ... and i still prefer the design to be something metro-esque... HD2 deserves better eye candy than the iPhone
EDIT: Oh and dont like the idea of hosting files on megaupload... I have a server with lots of space and unlimited bandwidth... so like I said... web portal for devs/companies to upload apps... and client portal on phone to download straight from the server...

[CLOSED/G2] G2 & Android: Evolution through leaps and bounds.

I'm definitely looking forward to root and ROMs being ported to the G2. I have been using custom ROMs like Cyanogen's mod for quite some time now on my G1, and now that I am without; it has become blatantly obvious that it's the little things that transform quality products into luxury products. Thanks to everyone's work, we are watching the definition of luxury in the making. With every new technology that comes out, and every new line of code the developers and awesome community coders write we are watching the evolution of our devices progress. Can't wait to see how this great phone will fly once I get it away from stock. I'm already interested in the new things that are slowly being discovered about it. As some sit and complain that they aren't getting what they paid for, others are going on an adventure finding out whatever they can from a new product. Its like a giant puzzle that people all over the world are working together to figure out. How interesting it would be if they actually took advantage of situations like this and all the energy that follows them to create fully immersive viral advertising campaigns. I mean everyone who is following the developments of the G2 are putting so much emotion into it all. Whether it's positive or negative we are watching the community come together as a whole, and it's pretty amazing. Whether or not there really are lasting issues with the memory or other parts of the phone, I am enjoying the dynamic of our teamwork to figure it all out.
I'm right there with you bro. This phone will have crazy developer support, I can't wait to see what happens. Things can only get better especially with support from cyanogen.

I kind of agree. I'm more annoyed that rooting is the only way to get screenshot/wifi tether privileges..
If those two things were incorporated already (booooo Google & T-Mobile) I probably wouldn't root. I find android pleasantly customizable even without the theming options.
you can capture screen shots without root
i followed the instructions at this link (for the Droid) and works great
you'll need to download the SDK developers kit and the Java developers kit but they're both linked in the instructions and your phone will have to be connected to your PC, but once you've done the download, you'll end up with a shortcut icon on your desktop taking you straight to the screen capture function screen

Obviously I meant without using a computer and having to use the SDK. That's a lot more hassle than it should be.
once we have tablets with USB we should be able to put sdk on them(hopefully) and play with our toys using our other toys

It's actually all T-Mobile's fault, not Google's. T-Mobile would never let its users have that feature for free.

it's a paid application, why don't you hire a professional?
So you want someone to create content for your app for free, so you can sell it? At which point you will shamefully acknowledge the winner as "the sucker who did your work but you didnt pay?" Am I missing something here...

might be harsh statement.but creating a flash screen thingy, without knowing the application logo/image thats in the drawer,is kinda hard.
because the might both be TO different from each other.

They don't need to match, but if you would like you can enter in both contests.
One week left. No entries so far for the splash screen. We may extend this contest's deadline.
We have 5 entries for the logo.
You are asking something that requires:
1) AT LEAST one hour of work to put out anything good (usually a lot more though).
2) Decent artistic skills. Without any concept whatsoever, logo, icon, etc. the designer here needs to basically invent everything from the ground up.
3) High technical skills that usually come after years of experience.
People are happy to help out their fellow devs here, when it's a free project. But for something commercial, 20$ just ain't going to cut it IMO.
This is below the hourly wage for a decent graphic designer in most places.
Personally I'm a hobbyist in that department, and I'd be happy to spend a couple of hours trying to create something, but my time is quite expensive and 20$ is pretty far from worth it.
Just my opinion....
This is not a high volume application. We currently don't have the revenue to hire a graphics designer. We realize that this contest isn't ideal for everyone. We are looking for hobbyist or new graphic designers that want to get their name out there.
Some possible themes.. radar echos from the radar app, radar domes, radar rings, lightning, hail, tornadoes (or hook echos), pickles, L3, .. please no sweep lines.
Thank you brkgnews.

We are looking to upgrade our splash screen graphics. Submit your ideas and if you win you will get the $20 (USD) cash prize and will be credited within the program.
We are also having a contest for a new app icon. Find more info on the icon contest at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=976234
Pykl3 Radar is an Android app that takes raw 8-bit level 3 radar data from the National Weather Service and renders it from the native format. There are no re-sized bitmaps and the flexibility of vector graphics illustrates the benefits.
Find more info on this app at pykl3radar.com
We need a landscape 1280x800, and a protrait 800x1280 version.
The preferred image format is PSD or PNG. Ensure that text is no closer than 15% of the width from any edge. The application title is "Pykl3 Radar". Bold Arial typeface is suggested, but not a strict requirement. Themes may make use of a pickle in the design. This is also not a strict requirement. Entries should portray a professional product as it will be used by various users from storm chasers to emergency managers to professional meteorologists.
The work must be your own. Winning contestant consents to artwork being used in the PYKL3 application, promotional material, web pages, etc. either as original or modified for the particular purpose of use. No additional royalties are extended to the winning contestant. Credit for artwork will be limited to the application PYKL3 Radar and may appear on other works without credit. Final acceptance of artwork is reserved by the author of PYKL3 Radar. We reserve the right to select a null winner in the contest. Questions and seeking of feedback is encouraged.
Entries are due by March 15th, 2011.
If you would like feedback before you post your entry, please contact via PM or email pykl3radar @ att DOT net.
Please post your ideas below and on March 15th we'll open a poll for voting and we'll announce the winner on March 25th, 2011.
Do you mind extending the entry date by 1 day, I would love to submit an entry or two to add some more variation to the competition!
Thanks a bunch!
Sincerely,

How much data can you actually obtain from an app/game?

I mean in terms of user habits. Can you:
- find out when the user is using your app/playing your game
- where they are geographically located (assuming they accept this prior to install)
- what the user has done in your game/app (as in what level they are at for games, or what data they searched for in your app)
- how often they click the banner ads in your app (if you own the banner ad for example)
- which banner ads they click (if you own the banner ad for example)
Thanks for your time guys!
yes, and that's not even the tip of the iceberg.

lol, nice pic.
so any anyone shed some light or recommend any articles which would tell me what type of info an android app can take ?
or a iphone app for that matter.
i don't like the way this conversation is going. if your intentions were good, fair and honest, you'd be asking 'how to make this kicking app', not 'how to monitor my users'. the first bit comes before the second one. and the second bit is just basic knowledge that you'd use from the first one.
Im doing this because I am writing a research report on app privacy. I am a Ph.D student. I have no programming background to ever create an app. I am just trying to post on forums with knowledgeable people like this one to gain a bit more understanding of the privacy issues of the iPhone vs. Android.
If you would not like to post here, please feel free to PM me.
Thank You.
it's very simple. look at the docs for android, think how it could be used to monitor users, et voila. an app could have total access to the phone meaning all data that is on it could be monitored by an app. whether the user will use your app that wants all these permissions is unlikely and you really are asking a pointless question.
you are a phd student, i'll assume you can think for yourself, and so you sh/could be researching this for yourself by reading the docs (mind you, you will have to think though). no one is going to come out and say juicy things like "well, if you do this, you can get this info and this info and use it to do this" because it's probably going to be illegal. it's your paper, your credit, think man, think.

I also just released an app that's a guide for people new to Android about permissions but I dont think I'm supposed to link to it here.
Google "PocketPermissions" and some links should turn up to read about it if you want.
