What is the best paid or free task manager app?
taskiller free. available on the market
Taskiller will only kill apf you want a manager use Astro or Linda file manager.
Clinton
OI File Manager isn't too bad if you're after a simple basic file browser/manager.
astro is a bit more advanced. it has more options and will also let you backup your apps to the SD card.
Advanced Task Manager
I used to use Taskiller free version but got rid of it after I purchased Advanced Task Manager. Taskiller only lets you view running apps and has a optional home screen widget that will kill all apps. ATM does all this, also shows running processes and services in the device foreground and background, view memory footprint of everything, lets you switch to running apps, terminate apps if root is enabled, uninstall apps from within the ATM program, and create exclusion rules for the "kill all" widget. it costs $0.99 in the T-Mobile USA android market; I would have paid up to three times that probably. very good app all around.

How much memory do you have free on your device at a time?
I use Advanced Task Killer to kill some apps, but ignore some for widgets and such. How much memory do you have free, I have ~100M
I usually have 75M free I don't kill any apps, i only use the task killer to kill games that don't close.
after i use my task killer minus ignoring my messenger app it varies from about 100-120+
Sorry for the newb question, but where do you see how much memory is being used/is free?
hi, does anyone know the root files involved so i can remove the samsung task manager, or at least permanently disable it
my problem is that my tab used to force close every time i tried to use it
so i use ATKfroyo, have it set to kill my unwanted apps on screen lock/unlock
but that stops working after a few minutes, (ATKpro does the same)
ive noticed that if i 'force stop' the samsung task manager, and providing i get no force close crashes
the ATKfroyo kill on lock/unlock keeps working for many hours
my RAM can drop to 40mb or less just from apps opening in the background when i dont need them to, and thats when i get the force close buzz.....buzz buzz buzz problems
i could even try replacing some of the samsung task manager files with the files from ATK and rename them so the device thinks its opening the samsung TK when its actually opening ATK, but im not sure how many files make the total app

You can use Titanium Backup to uninstall system apps
and will that let me reinstall it if something goes wrong?
i would rather know where all the files are that make the program
so i can replace them manually with the ATK files but renamed so the device thinks its still there and runs AKT instead
anyone?

then install "root explorer" from the market, and search for the associated files of Task Manager (or other apps) and copy/paste & back up manually.
if it's a system app, it will probably be in /system/app; if it is a non-system app, it's probably in /app
if it's an odexed system, many *.apk's have *.odex; and they will not run without the *.odex file, if the system hasn't been deodexed yet
some have files associated to them in system/lib (e.g. such as SWYPE)
if you say "ATK or AKT"? do you mean APK instead?
Have you guys noticed a discrepancy in the amount of free ram being shown in third party apps and the android task manager? Where in third party apps like system info widget my free ram is around 90 while in the native android manager its around 170. Whats going on?
Hmm, same issue here.
I think android manager excludes the cached apps. if you load the android manager and press menu u can see the option to see cached apps. I'm not running any third party task managers but i think this could be the reason.
i was looking through the available ram after flashing a new rom. I installed the multitasking pro app saying i have 120mb left, also the same at other app e.g. task killer app,
But the ram showing in the "android setting -> running service" saying i have 180mb ram left, which is always about 50-60mb more.... I just wondering what is going on??
No matter what Rom or device the free memory shown under settings>manage applications>running services all ways shows higher than a proper task manager. The task manager is normally the correct figure.
Do Androids dream of electric sheep?
In the settings --> apps --> running it says i am using 613MB of RAM but all he processes that it shows add up to around a 100.
How do i see what ALL of the processes that the tablet is running?
ES task manager, then show system apps. Works well for me, needs root to work though.
