when I received my magic i foolishly just plugged it in. Now I can't load the USB driver that comes with the SDK! Everytim I uninstal the windows driver it simply reload it automatically without stopping to ask if I would like to point it to a diffrent driver.
If I update the driver and point it at the x86 driver it just says that it can't find a better driver than the one that is already loaded!
how do I stop win xp from automatically loading whatever drivers it feels when detecting new gear?

Team,
For those of you having trouble finding drivers here are some links.
64bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x64.shtml
32bit:
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
For Linux and Mac the Android SDK drivers should work fine.
I don't know if it is a conflict with my AV or something else, but when I use the x86 drivers linked, my phone will shut off completely when attaching with "PC Internet" option in the USB settings.

yes they have... This feels redundant. also add in that if you're a nub just install kies and it will auto dl the correct drivers you need.

Also on a mac you do not need the sdk. You do need to be in debugging mode though.
Also, you could just go to the Captivate webpage on Samsung's site and get the Captivate drivers, not the generic Galaxy S drivers linked in the OP.
thanks was looking for these!
In Windows 7 I'm not having an easy time getting the phone to be recognized. If I click Start > Devices and Printers it shows up as Samsung_Android but even Kies won't recognize the phone so something is wrong. I also can no longer mount my external SD card and have it show up in Windows. I tried to uninstall all the drivers and reinstall but it keeps telling me there are already drivers installed...soo..... *shrugs*

I had this problem on my desktop as well. I was using a front USB port on my computer and when I plugged it into one of the back ports, it worked. I also found the USB cable that came with the phone to work better than a cable I had lying around. Try different ports and if all else fails, try a different cable.
So here's something bizarre. I've been using my PC (Win 7 64bit) for weeks now with my Captivate and no issues. Had originally had woes when I got it, but it started working. Anyway, today I plug it in and ... it doesn't recognize it. Have installed / changed NOTHING -- only M$ patches have been applied. Tried to roll back prior and get the lovely BSOD probably because I have 4 SATA Raptors RAID-0'd and M$ doesn't know how to use that, but has anyone else seen this behavior before?
And to add to this. I rebooted my phone and now it works again. Very odd but problem solved.

ive been trying for weeks and trying all three, generic Galaxy S, AT&T captivate drivers and Kies and can't get anything working in USB Mass storage mode or Kies mode...
This is on Windows 7 64bit. Driving me crazy. USB mode wont install the Mass storage drivers and Kies wont recognize
My issue is that when I connect the phone on Windows 7 32bit the phone and the internal SD card will connect but one I try to click on anything inside the phone or card the phone will immediately disconnect and then reconnect. When I try to click again it will repeat the disconnection. After that, I don't even have to click on the phone or card directories, it will disconnect then reconnect about 6 more times. Eventually it will be stable and not disconnect. This is extremely annoying. Anyone else with this issue.

I'm not exactly sure what you are asking. I had problems getting my epic to show on my pc as well. For me, it wasn't the dr4ivers, but the fact I had it plugged into a usb hub. Try plugging it in a main usb port on the back of your case... these are usually the ones for your keyboard/mouse.

I haven't been able to get drivers to load at all... I have given up.
I too have a 64bit Win7 machine.
I too had the same drama for days on end..
I too read that installing PDA net will get you up and running
so..
I too am suggesting the following:
get PDA net and when it installs, select "samsung" and enjoy being able to plug your phone into your computer
I hope this helps
When booting windows hold F8 key and choose "Disable driver signature",now boot into windows and intall drivers it should work.
If not intall PdaNet tether on ur epic download drivers to ur phone for ur pc(it promts u) install them and ur good to go,dont forget to disable driver signiture and if u on win64 bit than u gotta disable it each time u boot into windows.
Heres the gyst of things real quick:
Currently Running CM7 and I want to ODIN back to stock, however every time i plug my phone to my PC the screen prompts on the lower right task bar "Installing Drivers", then i get a notification saying can't install drivers. I've tried almost everything, installing the nexus s drivers, samsung kies, and the AIO vibrant toolbox. I just can't seem to get my phone to install on my pc. Without my phone being able to plug into my PC, I can't odin back to stock because the computer doesn't read the phone. Can anyone help me with this problem?
Have you tried downloading the SDK manager and loading them from there?
same thing happened to me, first you have to find out what kind of op system ur pc is using (32 bit, 64 bit, or 86) then reinstall the driver and that should fix ur problem
samsung vibrant usb driver for windows 7 problem
I need help. I have tried to connect my PC which runs windows 7 but I couldn't install driver for w7. I have tried with lies mini but it didn't work. By the way I am using ics on my phone. Could you help me find driver for t mobile Samsung vibrant sgh t959 for windows 7. Thanks anyway.
You should be able to go into device manager and find your drivers that are already installed. "Forget" or delete them. Reboot your phone (just in case) and your computer and once both are booted up, plug your phone into the USB and W7 should be able to pull the correct drivers on-line. Has worked for me in the past.
i did what you said but windows 7 couldn't install driver. i am not sure what problem is but so annoying. i need to find some solution!
Have you tried to install the drivers before connecting the phone? Have you first tried to uninstall any old drivers? Also which drivers are you using?
go to Samsung website --> search for t959 and select it from the results --> support on the upper right --> Manuals and Downloads tab --> Software tab --> Drivers are first item
I am running Win 7 x64 ultimate. I have a AT&T S3. I have tried every port on my laptop. I have updated Kies. I have tried the drivers from here http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-I747MBBATT. I can't get the 'Samsung Mobile MTP device' to install correctly. Can anyone help?

If you installed the drivers and restarted your computer, just open Odin and plug phone in while on (NOT DOWNLOAD MODE/ JUST HAVE ODIN OPEN) let computer recognize your phone(Install drivers) then shut down Odin and you should be ready to go
Thanks for the reply. However, this did not work. I should be able to connect to a PC to transfer files but I can't. I have now tried this on two other PC's (another Win 7 ultimate and a Win XP SP3). Watching device manager, it seems like the driver is ok for a minute (i.e. not yellow exclamation mark) and then it pops up. On the XP machine, I just tried to let Windows find the driver (i.e. I didn't dowload it from Samsung) every 30 seconds or so Windows just keeps popping up with the 'found new hardware' message. I am getting error 'code 10' saying the driver can't start. In a virtual machine, I tried another Win XP SP3 in which I did install the Samsung drivers and I got an error saying that the device wasn't found in the INF file. There are alot of subdirectories inside the Samsung USB driver folder, does anyone know which driver should be installed for this? I want to manually try to install it.

I had the same problem as you. Guess what fixed it? Using a different usb port on the same machine. Weird, I know, but it worked for me though I have no idea why that would make a difference

Been there done that it didn't work. I did a factory reset and it worked on this XP pc I am using at work. I'll try it on Win 7 when I get home. I didn't let google download all my apps this time to try to keep the phone clean. Before I had Launcher Pro (didn't use it though) and ADWLauncher Ex (I did use this one) both of which are home screen launchers. I don't know if something with ADWLauncher messed something up with the USB debug or what. This XP machine was behaving like USB debug wasn't checked when it was. About every 60 seconds it would detect the MTP device but I never could actually browse the phone.
I had the same problem. I switched cables and uninstallEd/ reinstalled the drivers. One of those fixed it for me

Apologies if this is really, REALLY dumb, but I rarely use windows. I bought this little windows laptop for the sole purpose of rooting my Note 3/Note 4 using odin -- no problem! I am trying to root my S7 Edge and when I try to just connect the S7 Edge to the PC without Odin running I get the "Found New Hardware Wizard" . In all the videos I've seen the phone should just pop up like a removable drive. I installed the Samsung Drivers, and I can't think of what else it could be other than that this ancient computer doesn't play well with Samsung. Any Ideas?
Here are the specs that I could find:
Microsoft Windows XP
Version 2002
Service Pack 3
Pentium 4 CPU 2.0GHZ
the computer is fine there is an issue with the samsung drivers. They maybe out of date.
does the new hardware wizard finish or stops and gives you an error message.
Pop shows if the drivers are correctly installed on your computer.

I would think the opposite, that the drivers are too new to be compatible with XP.

Thanks Guys!
It says that it is v1.5.14.0 which apparently I got on 12/22/2013. Do you think I should download a newer version?
Regarding the Hardware Wizard it asks me to connect to the internet, and when I choose not to that's it. Also, what do you mean by "Pop", Cosmic Blue?

that is encouraging it means that the computer is trying to connect to your phone.
did you enable mtp on your phone. check to see if a pop up is on your phone asking for permission to allow the computer access.
try with other computers and change cables.
try to update your driver with last smart switch (uninstall current driver before)
if pb persist, try to connect usb driver (flash disk) to your device with OTG cable, if flash device can't be reconized on your phone, your phone connector is the pb. I hope this is'nt the case

Thanks for the reply! I have an OTG cable, and I am looking for a usb driver right now. I have got that to work in the past quite well.
What do you mean by "update my driver with last smart switch"?
Windows XP was fine until windows 10 arrived. Now most drivers and software demand newer libraries that doesn't exist or support in XP. So your phone being 15years newer could have problems with its parent(ie windows xp). Try upgrading to Vista(if hardware is too old) or Win7/10(if newer hardware). I suggest you to stay away from 8/8.1
ps. since its a pentium 4 processor, i'm not sure newer OS support it. Windows vista could run though(provided you have atleast 512mb of RAM)
