Touch HD screen stopped responding?!Agh! - Touch HD General

Ok, randomly, this morning my Touch HD will not respond to any touch input. It will respond to the three hard buttons, but not the soft buttons or anything from the screen. I've reset it several times, but it hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

Anybody? Is it RMA time?

Did U do a hard reset?

I did, finally. It didn't seem to help. I was hoping to avoid it, but nothing else worked. There's another thread or two with people reporting the same issues. They're also saying a hard reset didn't work. About 10-15 people with the same problem in the same day?
Did HTC push out a bad update?

I doubt it. Is your screen still on or is it black? Problem with HD is that HTC haven't made it very well and with time the connections between board and screen fail or become loose which may be whats causing your problem. If hard reset, soft reset doesn't work, you have 3 options:
1. Turn off device or remove battery. Leave overnight and try to reboot in morning. If screen still not responsive go to options 2 & 3
2. Try flashing new rom
3. Return under warranty

Thanks for the response. It's got Dutty's 3.7 on it, so I'll try flashing it to stock and see what happens.

You didn't happen to knock it off your dresser or anything in your sleep did you? Like Spartan said, internally the wires/connectors for the screen are very small and in my opinion poorly made. I have seen and dealt with this issue numerous times.
I'm not getting a good feeling about this... if it just stopped working overnight with no changes I'm guessing that flashing another ROM won't help. BUT, here's hoping to prove me wrong! *fingers crossed*

lol, no ddidn't get knocked off the dresser. I'm going to try to flash it today.

Let us know...

Well, I wound up doing another hard reset, then flashed a stock rom, no luck. I flashed SPL 1.13.000 so I can send it in for service.

hmm.. seems to be a common problem. I had mine screen blank and I sent to RMA. After RMA, the Wifi and Bluetooth does not work... please make sure you check...
Mine is currently in RMA again due to the latter issue.
to think we are paying for a crap piece of hardware?? Never had that with the Samsung...

Thanks, I'll be sure to check!

Broken Vibrate?

I got my blackstone yesterday. Excitedly opened it up, fiddled with it a while, and flashed a new rom. It was a while before i realised that the phone woudlnt vibrate. Im pretty sure its a hardware fault, but just wanted to check here to make sure I havent missed something.
The phone wont vibrate, even when being called / txted with vibrate mode on. I also understand the hardware buttons are sposed to have some kind of haptic feedback or minivibrate, but this doesent work either.
I searched through all the settings, and couldnt find any magical turn on vibrate feature buttton. Vibrate notification is definately turned on, and so is the vibrate profile. I inittialy installed Panoshas Black Pearl rom. I tried a hard reset, and then also flashed the Dutty rom, and finally the original rom to see if it that worked.
Can anyone point out an obvious mistake ive made? Or am I gonna have to send my lovely blackstone back?
Thnx in advance.
Hmmm...you've already tried flashing a new rom and if you still have the same problem, send it in. It's still spanking new, shouldn't be a problem getting it rectified....or better yet ....replaced!
Was it vibrating when you recieve it, on it's original ROM ?

thnx for your response, i think ill probably do that.
its pretty annoying to have to send it back already lol, but its worth it to have a working vibrate.
A Second Opinion
Yep, I got my Blackstone a week ago today and it vibrated just fine out the box. I have not flashed any new ROMs, but I have installed plenty of programs including .net 3.5 and mobilmagic button stuff and hd tweak, installed and uninstalled advanced config and a few keyboards, the list goes on. Long story short, my vibrate doesn't work either! I think this is due to my tampering with it though, I really do. Also, I saw another post where someone had the same problem, he ended up getting his to work after playing with .net 3.5, hard resetting more than once and soft resetting too. So try that, let me know what you find out! I plan to hard reset and flash new ROMs soon, so I figured maybe these problems would go away then. Oh and, anybody else have a problem where their end key doesn't end the call, ? This is such a tinkerer's toy, lol!
Probably a good warning about flashing ROMs! Did you backup your original ROM? I think you will need to restore your original ROM before you send it back for "repair". (Otherwise it is likely you will be charged for any work/replacement - justifiably!)
Before you despair, what ROM did you flash it with? Have you contacted the developer about it? It may be a setting in a tweak you don't know you've installed. Have you tried playing Tweeter (the vibration feedback when the ball collides with a wall will indicate a working/non-working vibrator).
Rather than just offer bad news to you and tell you it's your own fault, here is a helpful tut on How to backup ROM, albeit a little late maybe. It may not be all doom and gloom - some kind soul may be able to offer you their backup ROM (particular to your mobile provider) which you can use to restore it to factory default before testing for the vibrate and/or sending it back for a fix. Who is your provider and what original ROM do you need?

thanks for the tip. i fiddled with .net framework 3.5 and more hard resets, and altho i have installed hdtweak and advconfig a couple times, ive done multiple clean flashes without them and it still dont work. in fact - as i said above, im 90% sure it never did work, so im convinced its a hardware fault.
i hope yours wroks after a rom flash, but i think mine is gonna have to go back...

yeah - i definately played tweeter even before flashing any roms, and there was no vibrate - so i guess that proves it really is the hardware.
i bought my phone from mobilephonesdirect, but have my rom backed up, so should be ok.
ta for the offer tho.
Mine was the opposite, it wouldn't stop vibrating, even when switched off.
You had to take the battery out to get it to stop.

I appreciate that
yes I would love for you to keep me updated, I purchased mine through ebay from addictedtophones.com, which is out of California. They seemed like nice people but they sure aren't wanting to help my broken vibrate after only 8 days! That is just sad my friend. I have also contacted UK and US support and HTC global repair service. They have indicated that they are looking in to it. Apparently the US section may not have the resources to work on the device. I requested that they replace the phone, if they couldn't work on it ASAP, the person seemed to agree and put the request forward. I hope that helps your situation. I spent too much for a broken stone!

I received my new replacement Touch HD in the mail a little bit ago, it vibrates. It must have been a hardware issue best I can tell. I just about had to send it off to HTC, but I finally got the retailer to replace it. It actually took a lot of crap just to get HTC USA GLOBAL repair center to want to accept the idea but, I called UK HTC and they called HQ in Taiwan or somewhere and got something done. So if you need some help, Ive got a few contacts that can help, anyone can just let me know. I hope this doesn't become a widespread infection.

I'd say it's probably a hardware issue. My first HD also didn't vibrate, and had to exchange for a new one. Probably some issues with one of the batches.

My hero is half dead after reset & reboot!

Hello.
Now I got a serious problem with my Hero.
I made a factory reset, reinstalled my apps from the Market, changed my APN settings and turned the phone off.
I try to turn it on again - But now it stuck at the HTC logo and keep flashing over the letters like normally.
I get past the HERO and the little android dude just fine, but can't go on from the HTC icon.
Ive tried back + on/off to make a reset, but the same thing repeats. Stuck at HTC icon :/
For sure Im going to take contact to both HTC and my operator (Telmore - Denmark) tomorrow :O
Any one got an idea what this can be? I havent rooted or flashed nor touched my phone in any unoffical way.
Thanks
Best Regards,
Philip

Remove the battery for a while and then place it back and start youre phone again. That might solve the problem.

Maybe half an houre or so. Its just a tip I read about of some that had a bad factory-restore. Some even left the battery out overnight.
Oh that looks like a bit of hope
Thank you. Ill let rest for an hour or so and see if it works then.
Anyone be welcome if you got other ideas - and thank you Heppieboeddah

Really dont know if this will work for you. I do hope so. You also might leave youre sim-card out while starting the first time. You wrote you changed something in the APN settings...
you can also try removing the SD-card. a broken / incorrectly formatted card can also trigger this behaviour.
Ive tried both with and without simcard and sdcard.
I just putted my battery in again.. still no luck :/
Damn its hard to live without the Hero :O
I had the same problem and had to return it to the supplier. Has been away for over 1 week now. I would be very interested to know what the cause/solution is.
I reflashed it with the 2.7.3 update.
Now it works again!

Blackstone screwed!!! Help!!!

I have a situation out here..a TERRIBLE one
Since couple of hours back, its seems that the END KEY button is 'pressed' continuously. So I cannot use the device anymore as its always in locked state.
Figured it out because, sometimes I managed to unlock it but locked back again in no time.
Was using Dutty's Holy Grail.
Tried flashing other ROMS, even stocks ones; but they all stuck up on alignment. Upon restart, the unlock thing appears at the bottom (6.1 ROM) but its only for a second or so and that alignment things take control again.
I do not know if I've explained it well, kinda freaked out here
Guys, pls. do help me out...I've tried soft/hard resets, flashing...

When alignment screen appears have you tried pressing power on/off, as this should hopefully bring you back to lockscreen where you may be able to unlock device before going back to alignment screen.
If you are still unable to unlock device its most likely due to a hardware issue with button and its probably worthwhile returning device under warranty. Ensure you have returned to stock SPL & rom beforehand
Thanks a lot for your response.
Tried that too..pulling out the stylus unlocks it for a moment though, but still not of any benefit.
Warranty hmmm....I got it from UK as it was cheaper from where I live.
Anyway will try to get some local support.

If the country that you bought the device and the country that you live are both member's of the European Union you are entitled to a 2 year hardware warranty as long as you can provide the initial purchasing receipt/invoice
Also it helps if the phone is in stock rom with the official spl but that is not obligatory by any means.
Have you tried bypassing the alignment phase? Try this:
The solution, to skip or bypass the screen alignment process altogether.
How to do it: Create a blank text file called, welcome.not, instead of welcome.not.txt, and place it in the root of your storage card. Next, flash a new rom or hard reset and you're done. If all goes to plan, the "welcome" phase will be bypassed, and you will not be prompted to align the screen or set the date, location, time etc.
If for some reason it does not, go into the root of your SD and manually with your stylus or via activesync on your desktop create a new blank file in there and name it welcome.not. If it works then leave it in the root of your SD and it will allow the bypass with each new flash or hard reset.

That should at least get you past the alignment phase at least.

well, just after a day, the same problem occured. HD was locking on it own BLAH BLAH. Gave it back to the guy who repaired it and he fixed it again today.
Well, I didn't want to take any chances, so, just bought a HD2
EDIT: I was told that the problem was with the sensor, I'm sure he meant digitizer.
If you are sure that its nothing to do with the software, send it for repair. If not under warranty, get it repaired by someone trustable
Best of luck, I feel for you

HD2 keeps resetting itself

Hello
After My Hd2 resets itself it gets stuck at the "stick together" screen and freezes doesn't show the text which rom its running and radio its running. I have to take out the battery for about 10 seconds put it back in and it works. After a while it does the same thing and reset itself. I did a hard reset the problem is still there. sounds like you flashed a custom rom and didnt match the radio.
oh wait, this is tmous section, all the radios work with all the roms. Hmm, did you task 29 and not flash yet? that would give grey screen with no writing.

All radio's DO NOT work with TMoUS. If a 1024 LEO get's installed with a .51 radio then it will brick it.
But it does sound like a bad custom ROM install if it goes into a cyclic boot. There is a few files that will cause this, but I suggest to re-download the ROM and install again.

[Q] HD2 Constantly Hard Resetting

My HD2 decided to hard reset itself on me this afternoon - it froze up and when I pressed the soft reset button under the back cover, I found it booted up like it was on its first boot. I was annoyed, but I had backups, so I thought no worry. I restored, but it froze up again. Another supposed soft reset, another actual hard reset. I did a proper hard reset, and installed minimal programs - Dutty's Task Manager, BSB tweaks, Resco Explorer, LeoCPUSpeed. I restored contacts and sms's, and used my phone for a bit. Then came another lockup, and the cycle repeated. soft reset becomes hard reset. I decided to leave the phone alone, and still I found it locked up, and the soft reset became a hard reset. I don't know what to do, or what the cause may be. I'm running a stock 3.14 ROM WWE, and haven't fiddled much with it. This really is most worrying. Anyone out there have any ideas?
Thanks,
David
hardware failure or you need to flash task29, then dutty's, then restore.
Thanks for the reply. Any idea what the hardware problem could be? Why would the task 29 work? And by Dutty's, I'm assuming you mean a ROM? If it is a hardware problem, it is most annoying, as it would be the third time my hardware has failed on me.

Yes I read too fast and mistook your Dutty's Task Manager for the ROM, Stock 3.14 should be fine.
task29 basically erases everything in NAND, but you need HSPL flashed to run it. If you have never flashed HSPL then I wouldn't worry about it.
The reason it might be hardware is sometimes some NAND sectors can fail or corrupt. This is similar to a hard-drive failing on your computer. Sometimes it just happens. I would say "overheating" but that wouldn't cause random hard-resets. Could also be the ROM, but if you're on a stock 3.14 I don't see why it would do that.

Thanks,
David

If the phone is under warranty, send it in. This is almost certainly a hardware issue.
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using XDA Premium App
I agree if you still have a warranty do a exchange cause ot sounds like you have a hardware issue causing the lock ups. And it also sounds like you have a SPL corruption of somekind too cause if I am not mistaken the hard reset and soft reset/reboot protocols are a part of the SPL.
Thanks for the replies. So if I understand this right, because I've never flashed HSPL, it definitely is hardware? The task 29 thing wouldn't help? Could it be anything else? My memory card?
The bad news is my phone is out of warranty. I think I have the most cursed HD2 in the world - I"ve replaced the screen, and the main board, due to failures already. I love the phone, but there is something seriously wrong with the design if I have to send it in 3 times. So much for HTC's vaunted quality control.
thanks,
David

Now this sheds some new light on the your issue. If you have had repair work don on it, the tech may have not done a good job and not connected a connector correctly or something, especially since you have had the main board replaced. Replacing the main board means every connector in thr HD2 has to be disconnected from the old MB and reconnected to the new MB.
Well, considering I sent to HTC to be repaired both times, I should hope the technician did a good job. Also the problems only started now, about 2 months after getting it back from repairs, so it just seems unlikely that it was repaired incorrectly. I've emailed HTC, and I'm awaiting their response on the issue. Am I being too hopeful in expecting them to cover the phone still , since it was repaired only 2 months ago? IF they can't repair it, then I think that means the end of my HD2...
Well , the good news is it seems HTC will cover the the phone - apparently the repairs have a 6 month warranty it seems. Now just have ship the damn phone back to them...

Glad you got that sorted out.
I have to send my HD2 for repairs on warranty because it's doing random freezes and soft-resets so I guess it's one of those things when you mass-produce phones a certain percentage are just going to come out fubar.
