HD2 keeps resetting itself - HD2 General

Hello
After My Hd2 resets itself it gets stuck at the "stick together" screen and freezes doesn't show the text which rom its running and radio its running. I have to take out the battery for about 10 seconds put it back in and it works. After a while it does the same thing and reset itself. I did a hard reset the problem is still there. Any help would be appropriated

sounds like you flashed a custom rom and didnt match the radio.
oh wait, this is tmous section, all the radios work with all the roms. Hmm, did you task 29 and not flash yet? that would give grey screen with no writing.

All radio's DO NOT work with TMoUS. If a 1024 LEO get's installed with a .51 radio then it will brick it.
But it does sound like a bad custom ROM install if it goes into a cyclic boot. There is a few files that will cause this, but I suggest to re-download the ROM and install again.

Yeah, i already re-downloaded the roms went to kumars then back to energy problem is still there. =(

yea sorry I worded that sloppily. what I meant was that any tmous rom would boot regardless of the radio, assuming the radio was a tmous.(us with regular leos get that grey screen with no rom info when we flash a tmous rom with our original radio, and won't boot till the radio is changed. a situation that tmous users will never come across)

cambxo, have you checked the battery connection pins? People have experienced symptoms similar to yours (resetting and never getting past the boot screen) when one or more of the little gold pins gets bent. Can't guarantee that's the issue, but it's worth a look.

You sure your battery charge pins aren't bent too? I bent some pins on my touch pro and it never worked right after that. Even though I straightened them out. Lots of resetting and freezing.

Yeah, i checked the pins doesn't look bent.

Does it feel like it's getting hot just before it resets itself? The device will get fairly warm normally, but it's possible that you're having overheating issues, just based on the fact you've connected the issue to periods of heavy usage...

I don't think there's a solution to this problem. I went on the t-mobile forums multiple of people are having the same problem as we are. I called t mobile last week and got a replacement. I guess that's the only solution. Try calling t mobile and getting a replacement.

TOUCH HD keeps turning itself off

Hi Guys, i have a strange Problem since a couple of days.
The touch HD turns itself off after some minutes. I have to take out the battery and put it back in, otherwise it will not turn on...
i have:
- deactivated automatic shut down in power settings
- deactivated today timeout
- tried hardreset
- tried another rom (currently dutties final)
no success :-(
i have absolutlely no clue what could cause this and how i can fix it...
help is highly appreciated.
hello there , actually maby its a virus or there is problem in SPL
Try to install again the SPL modified and tell me
best regards
ms4cah
unlikely it has anything to do with SPL. it was fine for months, i had not flashed or installed anything.
it seams dead now by the way. i cannot turn it on again.
i also tried a new battery. it doesnt even charge, no light at the power button. nothing.

Sounds like a warranty claim
I am getting the same problem!! is there anything i can do to fix this? anyone figured out the reason?
I had this sort of problem.
The HD would hang, then switch off, then to get back on I had to remove the battery for a while. Sometimes it worked after a minute, other times I had to leave the battery disconnected for longer.
So I performed a hard reset and it switched itself off during boot (after successfully resetting).
Battery out for a while.
H/R once more. Again crashed during boot but not at the same point as previous.
Tried a different battery with a full charge - same result.
Tried to re-flash a "very popular" custom ROM with USPL. Got to 1% and error. This was because the HD had crashed..
Tried to flash the official HTC ROM and it got to 15% and error. HD crash.
So I have contacted HTC and they are sending a courier to collect it so they can take a look with a view to repairing it.
The last ROM I successfully loaded about 2 weeks prior to the start of my problems was a custom win mo 6.5 rom. As I couldn’t get it to a stable state - I couldn’t flash the official HTC ROM.
I’ve convinced myself it’s a hardware fault rather than any software damage..
Although I fear I’ll be in for some bad news.
mine too
Hi,
I have the same problem.
Mine was doing hard reset and after a day or two the same problem.
Now I cannot turn it on.
I will send it to htc...
Crossing my fingers.
I had the same problem with mine...
While turned on, it automaticly tryed to turn of, as if something was pressing the on/off buttom. Everytime that message for turning it off poped up and I just couldn't control the on/off button anymore.
I tryed everything and nothing worked. It really seemed a hardware and warranty claim issue. However, since I bought it abroad and it does not have warranty here in Brazil, I just decided to sell it (obviously warning the buyer about the issue) and to buy another one (which is working as a charm).
It is a hardware issue, for sure...
So my HD has been away at HTC for nearly a week, and im currently tracking its return journey, due to land back here at some point this morning.
I have had no contact from HTC so its going to be a suprise as to whether anything has been repaired.
My hope was they couldn't turn it on at all - thus replacing the bits n bobs inside, replacing the main board containing my 6.5 ROM.
So for now im hoping "no news will be good news", but I will update this when I have it back.
... I've the same problem...

Just recieved delivery. The service report states:
1. Diagnosis
2. Replace Main Board
3. Function Test
Result
Confirms it was a H/W fault and my "flashing" did not effect the warranty status. That may have been because they couldnt get far enough to confirm so.

Other than a Warranty repair, im afraid not. Try your best to get it back to HTC official software, then report it as no power / cant boot.

Good to know, confirmed h/w issue
i simply deactivated automatic shut down in power settings as mentioned in the first post and unistalled a couple of new programs i had recently installed!!
Not quite sure which of the above worked.. but atleast for now it seems to be working fine!! the screen has not turned off by itself and i have not had to remove battery etc to get it to work again!
I'm not quite sure if the problem is properly fixed but it has been a few days since anything occurred!! so fingers crossed!!
mine was doing this last tuesday, each time i went into my pocket for it, it was turned off, then i hard to do the reset pin or remove the battery, it has been ok since, i just thought, maybe it was me, pushing it in my jeans i might be turning it off.
also using duttys popular 6.5 latest rom, i dont think its fair to blame his rom, as mines ok now, maybe i should reflash it again?? im still waiting for a new version to be released.... JESUS!!! just looked it up to r12, im on r9 .
oh no... no it not..... says to go here, and it will be released here and not on dutty throy???

FYI, Throy is releasing roms exclusively to HTCPedia now, so no future roms will be released on either XDA or www.duttythroy.com
wow!!! i never knew!!!! thats crazy as his own site duttythroy wont be used.
im getting it now, but only 11 when it says 12 is out, either way, i will still flash i love the roms, i will be sure to be on all the site, incase theres another change of heart??
anyway guys i will report if i noticed the shutdown thing happening again with the version. 4mins till downloaded.....
I think theres a couple of different issues here. My own problem was due to faulty parts in the hardware itself. Absolutley nothing to do with any ROM, only reason I mentioned them was because of the invalid warranty possibility.
If your problem was ROM related, Im sure in the relevant ROM thread, there would be many people (everyone) with the same issue. Thats not to say that its not some sort of conflicting software you may have installed after the ROM flash.
Some simple troubleshooting steps:
1. Hard reset - If it still has a problem...
2. Flash Official HTC ROM - If still a problem...
Phone HTC.
All the best, hope you manage to get something to work for you. I know how lost I felt without mine!

Your exactly right. Some people experience similar symptoms which are rom related others have same problem which is hardware related. One can only be fixed by HTC as motherboard problem, other can be rectified by different means without having to send device back for repairs
Hi again,
Today I have received an sms from HTC service informing me that my HD has a circuit problem and they will fix it without any charge.
I have to wait.

[Q] bricked phone ... how I can solve it !

hi there all,
a friend of mine is having a problem with his phone. I tried to explain him how to install an android base sistem, he did, but he had a lot of frezes etc.
I put him to make a task29 and after that to install all from the scratch. First was the last radio version which stoped at 96% and stayed there for a long time. He did a reset by pulling the battery off and now the phone is not starting up at all. when you put the battery in it, after a few seconds is starting to vibrate continuously without stoping and it keep it like this maybe untill the battery will be fully drained.
he cannot enter in bootloader, it is not recognised when is pluged in the usb ... practicaly you cannot do anything ... or maybe there is a way and I don't know it.
so please give us some hints. thank you !
If you have flashed a .51 radio and you have a TMoUS HD2 well then the phone is smoke. The only way to fix it is by JTAG and that's a fairly complexed way.
we are talking about europe version not tmous and the radio version was 2.15.50.14 which is correct !
If you dont even get into the boot loader this phone is really f***ed up..
But are you talking about the tri color screen?
i have hd2 since it appeared and I flashed mine for more than 100 times and also my friends come to me to tweak their hd2's, but it seems that my friend did something wrong.
when I taln about bootloader I mean the tricolor screen.
the problem is that the phone screen is black and he cannot do anything, only that anoing continuous vibration !

OK, I think the only thing you could do know is go to your provider and pray for a replacement. Dunno if the change your phone if it is bricked.
Could try saying .. the phone locked up .. I took the battery out ..

Would do exactly this. I don't think they're going to strip down the whole phone into pieces just to see why it isn't working. It's an older model so I think they will be fair and give you a new one.
Yup go back to a store or call HTC.
Romania is part of the EU now so the 2 year warranty should be granted.
Check that the battery pins haven't been bent out of place. They can bend very easily and if the pins are not properly aligned the phone can constantly reboot, which may explain the constant vibrations.

He can also just call and say that the phone won't turn on he was charging it over night. And when he woke up to use it, The phone wouldn't turn on he tried the battery in a friend's hd2. It turned his on and you tried your battery in his but didn't work... they will send you a replacement for free Thats what i did 2 months ago when i cracked my screen. And before sending it in i flashed a .51 radio on purpose so it wouldn't turn on. I know it might be a bogus thing to do but i didnt have $130 at the time.

HD2 freezing alot

No matter what build, what OS I put on it, I cant do ANYTHING with out it freezing.
AND I MEAN ANYTHING....what ever i do, what ever app I start, 2-5 mins later the phone freezes.
what sucks ever further is no matter that WP7 ROM I install, it refuses to boot past "GO, GO, GO"
I've tried task 29, different radios, still no gold

To solve some heating you need to remove the SIM card. But whats a phone with no SIM right
The only way to fix it it to either doing it your self or send it to HTC and once you get it back, sell it.
I had the same problem, once I get it back ill sell it and buy an iPhone 4G. I love the HD2, but it freezes so much.
Call the repair service.
still doesnt work, its pretty much dead now, wont even boot into winmo sometimes and cant do anything on it anymore...atleast i dont have to worry about getting rickroll'd cause it usually freezes after 5-7 seconds on most YouTube vids

im having the same problem but it started after my HD2 fell on the ground facing the screen down.. after that my phone started freezin randomly and i have noticed that it get stuck when there is a little press from the back near battery pin and near SD card if i keep the phone without any press on above position it stays as long as it get pressed again is there anyone out there knw wht is happening to my phone
I have the same problem, what usually works for me is to pull out the battery and let it rest for around 2 minutes.
Then pop it back in and let it load the ROM. After the ROM loads.. wait at least 5 minutes before you do anything.. it usually holds on, but there's always the hang somewhere after wards
It is really frustrating.. any specific hardware fault, maybe I can fix it myself.

You can buy the board and do it yourself if hou want to. You just need a small hex head screw driver and to be very carful taking your phone apart. I can not remember tbe exact location of it but there are links to some leaked official HTC training videos on desassembling and reassembling the HD2 here on XDA, but the videos are on pocketnow.com. The board recuires no soldering abilities as it has the camera and screen have ribbons that just plug in.
i suggest checking the battery pins also, make sure they are straight and shiny!

RE: disassembly video
here you go. in case you feel brave enough to do it. it's pretty easy. i just bought a new htc HD2 for $105 after i drop my samsung captivate...i bought it knowing the screen was faulty and use this video to help take it apart. afterwards the screen is more responsive now

I have the same problem and that is too irritating... Pins are straight and shiny
The only way to fix it is to uniformly bake the board at 210-220*C/430*F (but no more that 230*C/450*F or the PCB will start incinerate) for 20 minutes, (thermostat controlled oven (for toasts) or better infrared heater, NOT MICROWAVE!!!), this will reflow broken connections and solve most cases of freezing. Keep your eyes on temperature, open oven after 20 minutes and let it cool down, don't move anything until in cools to room temperature. Start heating from room temperature and slowly bring it to peak temperature during first 15 minutes and keep for last 5 minutes peak temperature (about 210-220*C).
More detailed illustrated instructions: http://www.instructables.com/id/Toaster-Oven-Reflow-Soldering-BGA/step0

Wierd Problem!! GOT PICS!

when i get this problem in the phone it doesnt make any sound when someone call or when the ringer is set up and i need to restart it so it will be fine but this problem has been showing up for 3 month and i got no idea what is making it!! and it makes my phone sometimes freeze and heat up :S
Are you currently on the stock ROM?
Yes T-mobile Stock rom 3.14
Have you considered trying one of the custom WinMo 6.5 ROMs? If this is an issue with the stock ROM or any recent updates then I'm certain the chefs in the WinMo 6.5 section have addressed it.
I'm on tytung's NexusHD2-Gingerbread V3.0 currently and have been flashing different Android ROMs since I got my HD2 Just some food for thought.
I upgraded my ROM from T-mobile center but still no effect and im abit of new in this and i dont know how to do cooked ROM's and i dont want to brick my HD2 :S
Have you tried a hard reset (factory restore)?
You will need to backup your contacts etc first but this will fix any software issue you have.
If the problem persists after that, it is something more serious.
Yes already did 4 times!!! and backed up all my stuff with PIM Back up
anyone help?
Sounds like a hardware problem. this is a warranty issue.
also, you might have selected something wrong in the gsm/cdma settings, check your network settings.

Well, if your phone is out of warranty, and you don't have insurance, I am sorry to say you are out of luck. This must be a hardware issue.

HD2 Bricked?

Last night, I noticed that ROM Manager had an update in the Android market
(512mb LEO with Typhoon Cyanogenmod). I hit the update button, and walked away for a while while my phone did its thing, as usual.
I returned about 15 minutes after and noticed that my HD2 was off. I could not, however, turn it back on.
Removing and replacing the battery did not help. The phone wouldn't charge via the wall socket.
My linux PC will not detect it (I checked my dmesg log when plugging in and turning on)
I left the battery out overnight, plugged the phone into the wall, put the battery inside. No luck.
I checked the battery voltage with a multimeter, and it reads about 3.9v.
I don't think it's the battery. I think my HD2 is somehow bricked! Is there anything I can do?
It's not under warranty any more, but if I send it for repair, do you think they will deny it (because it has Android on it)?
Enlighten me with your wisdom, XDA! I don't want to say goodbye to this amazing device!

Yes I have tried that. Alas, nothing...
Do you recon they will fix it even if Android was on it?

It is a little late for me to mention this, seeing as you have sent your HD2 in for repairs all ready. But your power/end button may have stopped working, if you still had the your HD2 you could try pressing the reset button by the SD card slot and see if the device booted up then. But that is not an option now.
If all you did was update ROM Manager via the Android Market. Then it should not have bricked your HD2 in any shape form or fashion. Further more it should not have caused your HD2 to turn off either. I mean when you are running NAND Android on the HD2 you are pretty safe from bricking your HD2 because both MAGLDR, cLK, and the actual Android ROM is flashed to the ROM partition of the NAND memory and never touches the real SPL bootloader partition of the HD2.
Plus did you check your battery pins before sending it in? One might have been bent slightly. Or it could have been dirty battery terminals not allowing a good connection.
Point is I very much highly doubt your HD2 was bricked. You probably just missed judged your situation is all. As far as will they fix it? If you are willing to pay the fee they charge then yes.

Hah. I don't know where you assumed that I have already sent it in. I'm the kind of person who tried to fix it myself first
Pressing the reset button doesn't do anything. I tried holding it down while inserting the battery too, and nothing,
The battery pins do not appear to be bent or dirty. I gently pushed them upright, and down, and scraped the surface gently in case there was any layers of dirt, still nothing.
I have a sibling with an HD2. I can test the batteries later.
Do you think somehow, the NAND can be worn from multiple reads/writes until it dies? It is flash memory after all, and that last write from the update could have pushed it...

Hmmm sorry I thought you had sent it in for repair already. Guess I miss read that, my bad man.
Yes NAND chips are rated for only a number of flashes. But that number is very high. I can not remember the exact numbers right now but hey that is what google is for right? But you did not flash a ROM you just uninstalled a app and then installed the updated version of that app. But then again I guess when you install or uninstall a app it is performing a some what similar action. Still though flashing a ROM is flashing a ROM, and installing a app is installing a app. One is a a lot different than the other.
My money is with your battery being bad. I mean like I said updating your ROM Manager should not have caused your HD2 to turn off at all. Try your sibling's battery and report back, I really hope that fixes it for you.
I haven't actually installed any Android ROM myself. But I did lots of WinMo ROM updates. What strikes me is that you installed a new ROM through the Android Market. Is that a normal procedure to upgrade an Android ROM on the HD2?

Hmm... I have an interesting development.
I tried my sibling's battery, and it didn't help, but what I did notice is that the phone vibrates slightly when I turn it on (as it should), but it does so very weakly. So weakly that I need to put my ear against the phone to hear it.
I don't think it's the LCD, because the charging light still doesn't work.
It probably needs a new mobo.
Any suggestions before I take it in for repair?

No, I didn't install a ROM on the market. It's an app called ROM Manager

Yeah I agree with you it sort of sounds like something in the main board has malfunctioned. My guess is the processor or the NAND chip one. I would just send it in for repair if I was you. Maybe your HD2 just finally died, I know it sucks. But if you are willing to pay for the repair then you should be back up and running in no time. I am assuming you plan to send it to HTC for repair right? If for some reason they do give you a hassle about Android being on your HD2 and will not repair it. Then contact me I might know somewhere you can get a new main board put in it.
I got my HD2 back today.
Apparently it's not worth fixing...
I also got robbed today... Just my luck.
I cannot afford any other phones atm, but what do u think would make a good candidate replacement for the future? I don't think any other phone has the same kind of mod-ability and support here at XDA, but I would be delighted if you could prove me wrong.
My friend has a Galaxy S2, which is cool, but it doesn't have notification LED :/
Is there much hacking/dev on the GS2?
