Hi everyone,
Thanks to KarrdeNZ's well written guide, I managed to flash my rom to
********Hero ROM for Magic modded for TW users (based on Fatal1ty2787's releases)********

I just noticed that my phone's LED lights are missing. The LED doesnt light up while charging, and it doesnt light up when receiving SMS as well. I think the LEDs just disappeared completely.
Anyone encounters this and is there anyway to solve it?
Thanks!
led lights do not currently work on Hero Roms, although there are a few hacks to make it work over at the "Dream development forum" of this site..

I'm pretty new to the Android platform and I just bought a HTC Hero on 2.1 which I really like BUT, I have one gripe which I was wondering if anyone could help with!
Whenever I get an email / text, the trackball flashes but the rate of flash is so slow that it's really easy to miss it unless you're staring at the phone for 6 to 8 seconds!
Is there any way to make the thing flash at maybe 1 sec or something similar?
Not a major problem as problems go but I was just wondering if it was possible....
Not that i know of, although i would like to know as well. Some custom roms utilize the led light at the top instead or along with the trackball. The led light notification is a lot more frequent and noticeable than the trackball. I think floyo blinks the trackball way faster than the usual 6-8 second rate
Can anyone confirm that 2.2 speeds up the trackball?
Is there a ROM that is currently 100% working (all features) on the Hero?
Im using a custom rom, Floyo 1.2 and when I get a message the green LED and the trackball LED flash at similar rates, maybe even at the same time. And it is not the pulsating light effect, more like a flash .. a very quick pulsating effect
EDIT: as far as all features go. I think the custom rom even exceeds the features of what the hero could do (a2sd =lifesaver)
There are 2.2 ROMs working flawlessly on HTC Hero. I'm using Froydvillain 1.7.2 right now and everything I've tested seems to work all right.
Nevertheless, I don't know if there is something to change trackball notifications behaviour.

Does that include:
GPS, Maps, Bluetooth?
I'm a bit scared of bricking the phone as my technical knowledge is non-existent!
Also, what happens to the HTC apps - I love the way that the phone interacts with the contacts and keeps records of convos, messages , emails etc in one place. Would all those features go too?
Sorry for all the q's - just a bit worried about causing expensive & irreperable damage!!
All of the GPS, Maps, Bluetooth work, but the HTC apps aren't present.
If that is the only issue that bothers you about your phone then I suggest you look for an app that could do that. you could start with an app called blink, but I dont know if it would work. Try the android apps part of the forum (its outside the G2 forum).
If you do decide to root it, then you could try the sense 2.1 roms and see if someone mentions trackball flash. I think the sense rom called RCMix 2.2 has the trackball flashing fast.
actually dont try blink.. it broke my flashing trackball find another app

I've tested Maps and Bluetooth successfully, but I haven't tested GPS (I installed my first custom ROM a week ago, so I haven't tested everything). I read it is difficult to brick your phone if you follow a good tutorial step by step, but nobody will guarantee it's absolutely safe.

It depends on the ROM. If you want an Android 2.2 system, you will lost all HTC apps. If you'd rather Android 2.1, some ROMs include HTC Sense (for instance, VillainROM).
I think like nijnvy about the way to solve your issue. If you only want to change the way blinking works, I would try to configure it with some application instead of installing a custom ROM.
...someone who needs notification leds that do not time out?
Hi guys, and happy new year to everyone!!!
I am trying to setup a friend's wildfire, and i need to flash a new rom.
My friends biggest issue with the stock rom is that the missed call / new sms notification leds timeout after 5 minutes. This is not good for him because he needs the leds to stay on until he interacts with his phone.
Is there a rom out there that supports something like that?
I already tried "ledmeknow" and "missed call" but the leds still timeout after 5 mins, despite the fact that i have disabled the stock notifications...
Can somebody recommend a ROM?
Thanks very much

No ROM supports this AFAIK. I still think you are doing something wrong, because, just yesterday mornng, I woke up to find my Wildfire's LED on, and, a notification saying I received an SMS 2 hours back.

Hey 3xeno,
Nice to see you again... I probably am doing something wrong LOL...
I am still waiting for a response from the developer of ledmeknow, but i thought i might see if anybody has had more luck with another rom, before i start a long trial and error process and flash all available roms - i am on holiday and have a bit of time on my hands lol...
Try all the roms available. The notififcation LEDs work fine in all cases for me.
Hi guys,
I flashed the Wildpuzzle rom and ledmeknow works perfectly now!!
Thanks for the help guys!!

Hi all!
I noticed a strange problem with proximity sensor:
When display is on and ONLY with an android rom, both SD and NAND(all android rom that i have tried have this strange problem) there is a light flashing on the proximity sensor like infrared light. The light is very weak, if you want to see it go in a dark place and look carefully the proximity sensor because light flashing is very fast.
This problem is not present if display is off or when the phone is off.
This strange problem is only with android rom and is NOT present in wm6.5.
Someone else have this problem?
Thank you all!
Doesn't do it on mine. The only time I've seen that is on videos that have picked up the proximity sensor (which is what it is).
TBH, I'd just ignore it.
Why do you call it a problem? If it's that weak that you have to make a conscious effort to go into a dark place and look really hard for it, then you're basically saying you'll never see it otherwise.
Thanks for you reply.

I call it a problem because this does not happen in wm6.5.
I meant that it was easier to see in the dark, but you see even in daylight, not strong but is still visible.
Why this happen only in android rom?
Thanks
Thanks for observation. I think this is one of the side efects which are with proximity sensor at some devices.
Aparently reason for additional power drain when device is on. For me sensor is not working at all, but in WM it was without problem.
Before there was always advices to change Android build, WM build, radios, Android boot loader etc. because some combination of them could be a problem but since NAND build are present, we all have almost same combination of HSPL,radio and also kernels used in build are prety much the same in this matter.
Well I hope some clever head will get some idea
Thanks for your reply!
I also think that this problem is a possible explanation of battery drain when the phone is not in stand-by and this explain,in my opinion, because there is a reasonable battery drain on stand-by(when the flashing light is not present).
I think also that this flashing light contribute on power consumption.
This problem is not present only in NAND rom, but is present also in SD rom.
I think this is a general problem that is present in ALL HD2 android rom(SD and NAND).
I saw some video on youtube which shows differencies in proximity sensor behavior between EU and TMOUS devices. I think this differencies has to be somehow included or patched into Android kernel otherwise there will be always problems with some devices.

Hi,
I finally took the plunge and installed this rom and must say it's great, thanks!
Everything is working good thus far except the trackball does not light up like when I had 2.1 Sense (VillainROM12). It would flash briefly and rapidly and then go, whereas before it would remain lit until I had read the message. Likewise, the amber led would flash but that's gone too. I'm using Handcent as my SMS app and I've set it on in the settings like I did before.
Can someone tell me how I can get these features back please? Thanks.
I have a problem with my desire Z, the LED notification (not the trackpad), It report new messages only for 5 minutes, then goes out and does not report them anymore.
I tried Gosms, Handcent, but nothing changes, and if I leave the stock message app can not set the stock LED.
Help
no one?
Telling us what rom (custom or stock) as well as kernel (custom or stock) would probably get you more answers.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using XDA App
Stock rom, Gingerb 2.3.3
Kernel: 2.6.35.10
Sense 2.1
no LED at all
I found this thread while searching for solutions to LED problems too. I've tried CM7.0.3, CM7.1RC1, HTCClay SuperCM7, GoSMS, Handcent, stock SMS, none of them will light up the LED for SMS notifications or anything else besides low battery or charging battery. any link to some LED faq would be great.
I'm in the same boat. Just picked up a DZ and the notification LED timing out after 5 mins is a real bind... kind of defeats the purpose of having an LED if I have to switch on the screen to check in case a message arrived 6 minutes ago when I was away from my desk!
Anyone have any ideas about how to keep the LED flashing?.. I'm on the stock UK SIM-free ROM, Gingerbread.
LED Me Know used to work, until the upgrade to Android 2.3
I had it working until my update last week!
