Android Market - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi all,
Just got my unlocked HTC Magic yesterday. Purchased in Malaysia.
However, there is no access to android market (not installed on phone).
The gmail contact sync, google calander sync is also not there. anyone can help me with this?

You could always go here for your apps. Sorry can't help with the Google stuff.
Clinton

You could always try to follow one of the guides, and do a genaric reflash on the rom? Is yours a google, or htc? Easiest way to find out is to check the battery cover, if it says google or htc on it. From there, if what Clinton wrote doesn't work out, just find a guide in the development subforum, and go from there.

mine is the HTC branded one. the thing is, i am not really sure on how to proceed with reflashing the ROMs. tried reading the quides but there are some things i don't understand.

Well if you want to flash a rom you'll need to figure out which SPL your phone uses, see if it's flashable. Here's a list of the SPLs for the Magic. And Here's the guide I would fallow to do the ROM Flash and backup.
Clinton

thanks..reading up and i am starting to understand a little. will try it out later. downloading the files now (SDK,recovery,ROM)

Hi,
The daldroid rom from the links below works fine for the malaysia version of magic.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=523680

hengsin, are you malaysian too? care to trade stories or help guide me?
as for rom, i am trying out *ION for TW MAGIC users (based on nk02's first release of ION rom)
edit :
i can't seem to get past getting root. when i am in fastboot and i want to create a nandroid backup or apply the update, i keep getting Can't mount SD card error.

Yes, I'm. I afraid I can offer very limited help as I don't own a magic, just helping my wife to get her full access to all google services.
I guess as long as adb and fastboot works well on your laptop, thing should be pretty straightforward. As a precaution, don't try rom that 've no positive feedback from other forum user or if you are not sure whether it is for your model ( there are 2 version of magic - pvt32a and pvt32b, the malaysia version is pvt32a ). Finally, flashing radio and spl could be dangerous, definitely not for beginner.

Low

Fews more things to add:
* the daldroid rom include both google services and microsoft exchange client. note that some of the rom out there doesn't include the htc exchange client.
* you will have to manually enter apn ( for 3g access ) after you flash your phone so do note your current apn setting down.
* backup your current rom using nandroid before flash
* a tricky thing here is the sdcard doesn't immediately comes online when you fastboot your phone, sometime u have to wait for a minute.
* the first boot after flash is very slow, be patient ( read somewhere that can use adb logcat to monitor the progress, not sure but u can try ).

i see. that is probably why i can't get the backup to work. thanks. really helpful there.

I see, thanks for the info. i take the daldroid ROM then. having both google and exchange is good for future use. Do i need to reflash the the radio and spl if i take the daldroid ROM?

Success. managed to load dildroid ROM. all working so far
Thanks to aniteshj for suggesting the reflash. and ClintonH and Hengsin for the useful useful links.
and props to the tireless people behind the guides, the ROM, the fastboots. all of you rock.

Hero 2.73.738.5 Root

Hey guys,
I got my Hero not to long ago and realized that it has no Marketplace. I worked out that this is because the device is from South East Asia and the marketplace is unavailable. I am running 2.73.728 (typo in the title)
How can I root my device and get the Marketplace? I've tried the Unlockr's method but when using Flashrec I get an error (Backup FAILED: Image is invalid.)
If someone could point me in the right direction, and perhaps explain how I could successfuly root my phone, it would be much appreciated.
I'm quite new to HTC and am unclear on how this all works.
Thanks guys.
You will need to downgrade to flash the recovery image
I have a South East Asian device as well, although mine is the Singaporean one which came with the Market app installed. The instructions here let me downgrade to 2.73.405.5, which let me root the phone.
I've since installed MoDaCo's custom ROM on there, but if you just want to run the stock software with root, those instructions are the way to go. (Of course, you can choose to flash any ROM after following them... it's entirely up to you.)
Thanks for that. Turned out that I just had to download the same ROM from the official site, install that, flashrec and follow the instructions.
I think the main problem was that it couldn't make a back up, and I wasn't going to root it without a backup.
Try to follow the instruction from below link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683
Hello everyone,
I'm new to Android as well, and just like Motleymoo I'm trying to root my Hero, but before that I want to backup my original before flashing. I read instructions on many forums out there and of course everything I could find here on XDA as well but so far no way. It seems this is due to later Build Number after 2.73.4... with further protections from HTC. Couldn't find anything to backup from this build before flashing so far. Any suggestions out there?
Btw, my device is SE Asia as well, bought in Hong Kong a week ago.

How to Hack SPL 1.24

Hi All,
After spending a large amount of time trying to find a solution for the SPL 1.24 to hack. Mainly the Telstra Australia WM6.5 Upgrade. Combining the many efforts of XDA Members I finally got a proper working hack going. I thought I'd post it straight away for the rest of the world to see.
First what you need to do is download the WM6.5 Upgrade from the HTC Website. When you open this you need to go to Start - Run - Type %TEMP% Find the location where the extractor has dumped the files and rename RUU_Signed.nbh to MAPLIMG.nbh. Copy this to the root of the SD Card. Reset your phone into Bootloader and let the flash start. It will fail at 10% than reset itself and install it properly.
From here you need to download a cab clearsecurity.cab which is suppose to be for the Samsung Blackjack 2 but it enables the HTC Snap to be hacked.
From there download the desired Custom Rom and run 1.19 auto.bat and watch the screen go black and the custom rom install.
Any Success???
Hi, can anyone let me know if they have had the same success???
Hi Roger,
Thanks for the post as it worked a treat for me, I was able to flash the HTC Snap after following the above steps. One thing I didn't do is backup the Telstra spl 1.24, Do you know where I can get a copy from?
Once again thanks for the post.
Mr.D
THis looks great. I'd love to try this now, but before I do, I'm hoping you might be able to answer a question of mine, to ease my mind:
If you need to reinstall the original Rom and SPL 1.24, is there any way the the Telecom company can see that the phone's firmware has been previously changed?
Thanks.
Flashing back to Telstra 6.5 Rom
Hey guys, I believe you can just download the latest 6.5 Telstra Rom for the snap from the HTC website. I havern't tried it since I have hacked the phone and the only reason why you would obviously do it is for warranty. Actually I also found out that you can get WM 6.1 rom but you need to contact HTC and you can upload it from there FTP. Sorry I can't provide any more assitance maybe when my phone breaks and I need to flash it back I will post up what I have done.
Hi Roger
Thanks for the reply. This is what's stopping me from trying to flash the ROM. Knowing whether I can restore it back to it's original condition without the telecom company knowing it's been flashed. The phone is only new and if it does develop a hardware problem and I had to send it back, I'm sure they won't fix it under the warranty if they can see that it's been flashed.
If as you suggest, it's just a matter of re-flashing it with the original rom, then that's fantastic. But, I'd really like some firm confirmation before going ahead.
The ROM developed by ookba looks AMAZING and I can't wait to try it.
Thanks.
Flashing Advice
Hi Badcam,
I have owned many HTC phones and I have to say the Snap is probably the most durable out of them all. I find with the Snap and the newer models of the HTC phones from australian carriers they really lock them down and you don't get the full functions as what you pay for. Worst of all they infest the phone with all these carrier features that are not needed.
It is really your choice flashing your phone. Every single phone I have had I have flashed and never had problems only when I drop them lol. For warranty purposes you can always flash back to orginal rom and just tell them thats how you got it. They really can't say much. But I did abit of reading and when you do upgrade the rom from HTC website it does install SPL 1.24 back meaning if you want to flash it back you need to go through the hack again.
Hope this has been helpful.
You said it Roger.
There's so much Telecom rubbish on this phone, it's not funny.
Well, I'll give it a go this weekend. If you're happy it's going to work, I am too. Thanks very much for your advice.
Hey do you guys know how much (in USD) a Telstra SNAP is out there if you buy it outright? Can can anyone ship me one to the States?
What about a TelecomNZ one?
http://store.telecom.co.nz/mobile/pay-monthly/htc-s523
NZ$499.00 is around US$361

I'd be happy to sort something out for you. PM me if you'd like.

Thanks but that's kinda rough. I get the MAPL100 (Dash 3G) here for $100. Looking to get a SNAP S523 for around that, even used. Let me know if you run across one. Thanks!
It's atrocious. Believe it or not, that's a good price. It's just come down NZ$200. Of course, I had to buy my two days before the reduced it.
I'll keep an eye out.

Can't find clearsecurity.cab. Can anyone tell me where to find it?
Attempt to answer questions lol
Benzin,
Type in google "clearsecurity.cab download" and find the mediafire link
If you have problems please let me know. Maybe XDA-Developers already have it posted.
wcampagne,
So you are getting into bootloader right, its just not picking up the MAPLIMG.nbh file. You have renamed RUU_Signed.nbh to MAPLIMG.nbh. Also a train of through if you have tried applying previous Roms before hand I suggest you go to %TEMP% file and remove anything that is there that has reference to RUU_Signed or the rom at all. You are probably uploading the wrong file as it might be cached. As I said its just a train of thought. If you have any more problems please feel free to post up and I will figure out a fix for you.
Ookba,
Ebay is your best bet. I got my handset for $150 AUD brand new on bid.
Works great for me and I thank you so much!

One more newbee question.

A Rom is basically an operating system for your phone. A Custom/Cooked Rom is a Stock/Shipped Rom that has been stripped of clutter and tweaked to give the best performance. Custom Roms usually contain the latest updates and programs so are more stable and up to date and work better than stock roms that are supplied with your phone.
In my understanding, think of flashing as giving your phone more freedom and you only need to flash HARDSPL your device only "ONCE" to take advantage of the features that custom ROMs offer. You can hardspl ur device easily via usb cable (without a memory card), so read the post in d link above thoroughly n ask feel free 2 ask more questions.

The HPSL is what, for lack of a better term, "jailbreaks" the HD2. The ROMs are the operating systems of the phones. Radios are also an important thing, and they have something to do with how your phone interacts with the network.
Now, I'm a n00b myself, so anybody please feel free to correct any errors I made.

I want to make sure you're not getting confused on something here...
Are you trying to get your phone to the point where you can run non-official ROM's on it? That's what using HSPL and flashing is.
Or, are you trying to be able to use the phone with other carriers than T-Mobile? That requires unlocking (completely independent of HSPL/flashing), and that's not something that's there's a tutorial for you to do...you either need to call T-Mobile and tell them you need the unlock code, or if you aren't a T-Mobile customer you will need to use one of the various unlocking services you'll find on e-bay, etc.

The step you're trying there (clear data) is also known as a "hard-reset"...it wipes the data off your phone and returns it to the orginial state of whatever ROM you currently have flashed on it (in your case: Cleanex)....so to get it back the way it was when you bought it, you'll need to flash a stock T-Mobile ROM back on to it.

Yes, that's pretty much exactly how it works. You can find the official download for it at this link:
http://dl.htc.com/ruudownload/t-mobileUS/Filedownload.aspx?pid=leo
You'll have to enter your phone's IMEI number (located on a sticker beneath the battery) to verify that you have an HD2, and then it will let you download. It's pretty simple to do, but here's a set of detailed instructions if you need (which include the step of downloading from that link above):

I read in the forum that the ROMs don't unlock your phone. They are just customizations for whatever the purpose may be. I use MIRI v17.6 ROM so that I can run Android on my HD2 US. I'm only missing Microsoft Word Mobile. My HTC HD2 US is unlocked because I paid cash for it and I requested the unlock code from T-Mobile unlike my iPhone 3GS that is still locked even though I owed no money on it.
I have not read anything about unlocking (rooting in this forum?) your HD2 (I assume) in this forum. Remember, Google has the answer for virtually everything if you ask her.
I hope you slept well!

Also, if i may add, the HPSL3 is some kind of protection not to damage your phone in case you use the wrong ROM, I read. therefore, for the HD2 US, I watched on youtube how to install the HSPL3. Then I picked a ROM that suits my purpose and I flashed my HD2 (on youtube also). That's it. I did not have to bother installing a radio file because my ROM did not require it since I have the US hd2.

[ROM]RUU_Mozart_TMO_DE_1.28.111.03_5.52.09.16_22.33a.50 _RELEASE

Here new ROM for Mozart
http://www.filefactory.com/file/b48..._1.28.111.03_5.52.09.16_22.33a.50_RELEASE.exe
DO NOT TRY TO FLASH THIS ROM FOR ANY OTHER DEVICE EXCEPT MOZART!
Enjoy!
THNX a LOT!
Hopefully it fixes my problems with sending text messages.
Will I lose my data (mainly my SMSes) if I install this update?
//EDIT -> according to several forums, I will lose my data...
and I haven't found any solution to backup my SMSes - yeah -.-
Is there anything I should regard or be aware of before updating?
//EDIT -> I just tried updating my phone and don't know how. It boots in the bootloader (RGB-test with some data on the device, SPL, the SD card, ...) just fine but the RUU doesn't find it.
I'm trying to flash it from a Windows XP machine - is there anything I have to take care of before I can flash it?
Or is there a real step-by-step manual for total dummies (I've flashed my HTC Diamond several times before without problems and have got no clue, why the PC won't find my Mozart).
The update process cancels with a CONNECTION ERROR [260].
will the hspa work on it from the tmobile usa after flashing this rom???

Well, I'm not exactly sure.
However, if you think about the update failing with a wrong VENDOR ID - I guess it makes a difference.

are there any big noticable changes after flashing the new rom?
or is it just a minor security/stability update?
Be careful when uninstalling TMO apps
ROM is working very good, more fluent than stock version 1.25 - no problems found yet.
Still noticed the same problems with the stock ROM after uninstalling TMO shipped apps. When I uninstall Navigon the BING Map "Search" and "get directions" is gone/does not work anymore. When I remove "mediencenter" and plug in the headphones the phone is neither accepting nor able of making calls. However reflashing solves the problem - but you can't get rid of those TMO apps without losing functionality.

According to some other sites (just google the version number), this rom ships out with new devices. So no, it should not get you blocked, as it's a legit update.
Flashing is fairly easy: Backup everything you can, start you Mozart in Bootloader mode (pressing volume down while powering it on), plug it into your PC via USB, install the drivers if needed (done by installing Active Sync in XP, Windows Vista and newer should automatically find the needed drivers), start the updater and follow the instructions.
There is no official changelog, but several people think that the animations are smoother, the touchscreen reacts faster, ...
Seeing that there is no official changelog and the only thing we can do is assume what could have changed, I think there's no sense in discussing this. Especially since you can find several threads in other forums that discuss the changes in various lengths...
I haven't noticed any new problems after the update, so I guess it's at least as good as the previous version.
But this are just my thoughts

No you can't flash the HTC_Europe version, only the TMO_DE version.
TMO_DE stands for T-mobile Germany
HTC_Europe is the generic software for the non branded devices.
Doesn't make any difference except the useless apps you get from t-mobile.
But after you delete them everything is the same.
And for the record, You don't have to flash your phone at first... Installing new firmware IS flashing. so you just run the RUU and make sure zune is running and phone is running, not in stand-by.
And be sure to backup everything you want to keep, haven't flashed my mozart, but i think you lose all data when you flash it.
Sure someone else knows that.

And be sure to backup everything you want to keep, haven't flashed my mozart, but i think you lose all data when you flash it.
Sure someone else knows that.

Thanks for the answer!
I thought that I have to set the mozart in the bootloader mode, in order to flash. When I was telling it "flashing" I meant something like hspl like we had to do on the HD2, befor we could flash custom roms or htc roms on it.
edit: and is there any possibility to go back to: 1.25.2250.5 firmware (now installed on my phone)?
and last question this 1.28 version will not breake my warranty, right? It'S a normal t-mobile rom, isn't it?
Guys, I'm not sure I fully understand everything so far.
I basically have a Telstra (Australian) HTC 7 Mozart. From what I gather, I cannot flash this on my device until it is unbranded, is that correct?
hello to everyone.
I have a htc t-mobile mozart Germany but I live in Venezuela and I can assure you and proven DepNet.com for both 1.25 and 1.28
posted on this page to a friend Football and run to perfection
and also I can tell you that my phone came with 1.25 and the 1.28 istale him but then return to 1.25 and all is well.
and the echo for several times trying to place the Spanish language and if anyone can help I'd appreciate it forever
@ WinUser009:
HSPL was needed because we used to flash cooked (and therefore custom-made) ROMs, which were not signed by HTC or any other company able to sign them. These ROMs are unmodified and signed, which is why you can flash them without flashing any unlocked HSPL first.
Bootloader-mode is just a different mode to boot in - it does not need any changes to your phone!
I don't think that there is a possibility to go back to 1.25.xxx - but honestly why would you want to? But I have to admit that I have not yet tried it...
As to the warranty: that's a complicated matter...
This firmware is not official and my new Mozart (I got a new one after sending it in) still had the 1.25 firmware installed (someone posted that newer phones should ship with the 1.28). So there might be a person detecting that you flashed it yourself, if they keep sending out new phones with 1.25 preinstalled.
However, the phone I turned in had 1.28 flashed and I have not received any complaints when I sent it in for a replacement. So I guess it is up to your shop but it should not pose any problems!
@ameel
You can flash as soon as one of these things happen:
- custom roms are released that don't check for the carrier information
- you unlock your phone (somehow)
- Telstra releases an update
But as of now you can't flash these T-Mobile roms on your Mozart.

Sorry, but I didn't understand your post. What did you try to tell / ask us?
I hope I could help you with some of your questions

Newbie has Q's about rooting and more

I have a HTC Desire HD on UK Vodafone bought from Phones4U so am assuming its unlocked.
I want to use HTC sense 3.0 Rom but dont know what i need to do to the phone to install it.
I read on here and on Youtube about rooting. Is rooting a way of hacking the phone so that other Roms can be installed ?
Also do i need to do anything else before i do rooting ?
The phone is running HTC Sense 2.1 Andriod 2.3.3, i heard that i need to downgrade that to Froyo in order to root the phone. Is that Correct ? Gingerbread runs better then Froyo ?
If i do all the rooting/install new rom will i have to back up all apps/pics/music/contacts etc ? When i updated from Froyo to Gingerbread i didnt lose any of that.
If i decide to sell the phone at a later date i can do a restore so that its sold as stock software ?
I'm just off to bed and saw your message.
Rooting is like making yourself the administrator and you can do anything you want with the device including installing custom roms and software.
You should backup/save your original default rom.
You should use a program like APN Backup & Restore to backup your default carrier APN -which is the login and password etc. for your data connection. (Then you delete the custom rom apns and restore your own. This makes sure you continue to use the correct info and don't affect your billing, data charges etc.)
I recommend keeping pics and stuff on your SDCard where they should remain untouched. So use a program to backup all of that stuff.
You do need to downgrade. If you save the stock rom then you can restore it when you sell the phone. Make sure you save it as completely stock (after a reset or something) as opposed to saving it with other of your information.
I'm falling asleep (3:00 AM) - go visit my site http://grantbarker.com/htc-desire-hd.html
Look to the right - XDA Guides.
There should be enough info to help and inspire you too, with plenty of custom rom links etc.
If it helps you, please give me a Thanks if you have a Thanks button yet on your account.
See you.
