A Rom is basically an operating system for your phone. A Custom/Cooked Rom is a Stock/Shipped Rom that has been stripped of clutter and tweaked to give the best performance. Custom Roms usually contain the latest updates and programs so are more stable and up to date and work better than stock roms that are supplied with your phone.
In my understanding, think of flashing as giving your phone more freedom and you only need to flash HARDSPL your device only "ONCE" to take advantage of the features that custom ROMs offer. You can hardspl ur device easily via usb cable (without a memory card), so read the post in d link above thoroughly n ask feel free 2 ask more questions.

The HPSL is what, for lack of a better term, "jailbreaks" the HD2. The ROMs are the operating systems of the phones. Radios are also an important thing, and they have something to do with how your phone interacts with the network.
Now, I'm a n00b myself, so anybody please feel free to correct any errors I made.

I want to make sure you're not getting confused on something here...
Are you trying to get your phone to the point where you can run non-official ROM's on it? That's what using HSPL and flashing is.
Or, are you trying to be able to use the phone with other carriers than T-Mobile? That requires unlocking (completely independent of HSPL/flashing), and that's not something that's there's a tutorial for you to do...you either need to call T-Mobile and tell them you need the unlock code, or if you aren't a T-Mobile customer you will need to use one of the various unlocking services you'll find on e-bay, etc.

The step you're trying there (clear data) is also known as a "hard-reset"...it wipes the data off your phone and returns it to the orginial state of whatever ROM you currently have flashed on it (in your case: Cleanex)....so to get it back the way it was when you bought it, you'll need to flash a stock T-Mobile ROM back on to it.

Yes, that's pretty much exactly how it works. You can find the official download for it at this link:
http://dl.htc.com/ruudownload/t-mobileUS/Filedownload.aspx?pid=leo
You'll have to enter your phone's IMEI number (located on a sticker beneath the battery) to verify that you have an HD2, and then it will let you download. It's pretty simple to do, but here's a set of detailed instructions if you need (which include the step of downloading from that link above):

I read in the forum that the ROMs don't unlock your phone. They are just customizations for whatever the purpose may be. I use MIRI v17.6 ROM so that I can run Android on my HD2 US. I'm only missing Microsoft Word Mobile. My HTC HD2 US is unlocked because I paid cash for it and I requested the unlock code from T-Mobile unlike my iPhone 3GS that is still locked even though I owed no money on it.
I have not read anything about unlocking (rooting in this forum?) your HD2 (I assume) in this forum. Remember, Google has the answer for virtually everything if you ask her.
I hope you slept well!

Also, if i may add, the HPSL3 is some kind of protection not to damage your phone in case you use the wrong ROM, I read. therefore, for the HD2 US, I watched on youtube how to install the HSPL3. Then I picked a ROM that suits my purpose and I flashed my HD2 (on youtube also). That's it. I did not have to bother installing a radio file because my ROM did not require it since I have the US hd2.

Need Help With Wizard!!! Pls Read

Hi, I'm going to be getting a SIM unlocked t-mobile MDA soon, and was wondering if I should put a custom ROM on it. I understand I have to CID unlock it first. I'm new the custom ROM thing, but I've been intalling custom homebrew firmwares on my psp all the time, so I know about the risks. People have told me that I shouldn't do it because the mda is desgined for windows mobile 5, and should be left at that, and custom ROMs are very buggy, and freeze a lot. Is this true? and can someone help me to CID unlock my MDA. Also, how can I tell if its a G3 or G4? and what's the difference between them? and there are so many custom ROMS out there, which one is the best? I heard it was the core 2 by xplore, but im not sure. What do you think? Please answer with something! I'm very frustrated right now, THNAKS!!!
In the section called wizard upgrading is a sticky by Dr. P...in it it explains how to unlock your device. Read it, then read it again, follow the directions explicitly.
As for rom...I have a Tmo MDA running a WM6 custon rom...Jaguar 3.1
Each rom is different, it depends on what you want in a rom. If you want bells and whistles go with a TNT rom. If you want a zero calorie rom go with a Core rom and customize as you need by installing 3rd party apps. If you want something in between, go with Jaguar or a Faria...there are so many amazing chef's at work here at xda, that in truth, you just gotta try each kitchen out until you find the one that meets your tastes. Be warned...you may turn into a flashing junkie and need to join the xda 12-step program!!!
Ok, thanks. You've helped me a lot. I think ill go with the faria or jaguar, I like the sound of them, but ill look up more info on them first. Thanks again.

It all depends on your taste...i always like to cook my own ROM...pick the one you like, dump and add packages you like and enjoy...but READ (I mean READ...) wiki and stickies before you flash...dont just flash anything and brick your device...
PS: Stick with OS version ending .318 for better wifi connections
Ok, thanks. I should be getting my MDA tomorrow (thursday) so Ill probably start installing custom ROM's on friday, because I want to get to know the MDA a little bit before I install customs ROM's. Also, how can I check if it's a G3 or G4? I know it has something to do with the numbers that show up when the device is turned on, but I'm not sure, can anyone help? Also, hat do u mean "add packages" can I customize my custom ROM however I want? I can add whatever apps I want on the ROM? Also, are all custom ROM's windows mobile 6? are there such things as windows mobile 5 custom ROM's? its not that I want it, just curious. Is there a such thing as jaguar.318? All you need is in here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard. Jaguar is .318 OS, if you flash that you should be good to go...read wiki before you do anything with your MDA. Good luck.

Hmmm, Take my advise,as you are getting a new device,it wud probably will be with wm5 T-Mobile Rom.why don't you just use it for sometimes, enjoy the new device, get to know all the features and applications and really get to know your device and when you are fully comfortable then go for an upgrade to wm6 version Rom. In the meanwhile, READ 'n' READ all about CID unlocking and upgrading,so that when you are actually going to do it,you have the whole procedure done successfully and effortless
Secondly, it's very very important to know the correct DOC chip version on your device ( G3 or G4) cuz both the devices have all together different method for upgrading,if you do a G3 method to unlock or upgrade to a G4 device,it'll "Brick" the phone,so first determine the version of the device. Download the WST Tool and install, run it and check the report it generates to verify the DOC chip version, whether it's a G3 or G4 device.
Good luck
Yeah, your right, I got my MDA yesterday, and I'm pretty happy with wm5 right now. Ill put a custom ROM on later, no point in risking a birck already, but I still want to CID unlock it now, so I don't have to do it later. Thanks for your advice. I found a lot of things to on the net make a wm5 look like wm6, i got a theme, and media player skin. Do you know any other ways I can make my wm5 look like wm6? Icons? buttons? sounds? is there anything like this on this website? i'm going to check anyways.
Search in the xda wizard forums. A while back someone posted WM^ themes, ringtones, icons etc...if it isn't in the wizard section, then I saw it in the general topics section. Sorry I cannot remember which, but I DO remember seeing it posted here at xda, so just search WM6 themes.

To verify the CID lock/unlock status, download the WST tool and run, check the button "CID Action" written on it,this will give the report to verify if you device is CID locked or unlocked.
Secondly, don't use Win Vista as it has many problems yet.Flashing is always easy and recommended with WinXP SP2,ok

Another thing is can I use shelltool to put a custom ROM on my mda? does it work with every ROM? if it does, why doesn't everyone use it? what's the use of CID-unlocking it when shelltool is easier and faster? is there a catch?

My ROM is WM5, based on the old AKU 2.3 (rev 4 is, rev 5 which is gonna be released soon will be the latest WM5 OS build). You should not use shelltools to change to my ROM, since I've got some fixes/updates done by extendedRom, which shelltools doesn't update! Also, WM5SE is G3/G4 safe, so you can use SoftSPL or HardSPL to flash it so its safe for every Wizard PDA. Why doesn't everyone use it? Its the freedom of choise, everyone is free to use whatever ROM satisfy his/her needs. ShellTools takes about 30 minutes to flash. A CID Unlocked device can be flashed using the official RUU upgrading program, that takes about 6 minutes... also its safer.
Just make sure you have read all the stickies on WIzard Upgrading forums, before ever flashing!
You said you took out windows live, where can I download it if I want to put it back on?
IMPORTANT!!!
one last question, do I need to downgrade my SPL to CID unlock my phone? I have a G3 T-mobile MDA runnig the latest t-mobile 2.26 ROM. How can I downgrade to CID unlock my phone? LET ME KNOW ASAP, I'm in a rush....thanks!
YES !
CID unlocking is only possible through 'lokiwiz02b' Tool and it only works in IPL/SPL 1.xx,so to unlock you'll have to downgrade to IPL/SPL 1.xx.To CID unlock read this Sticky :-

Telstra HTC HD - Flashing the ROM

I have a Telstra branded HD and wanted to know if anyone has tried flashing the ROM on one of these to a standard ROM?
If so, which one did you use to flash the ROM?
Not that I know anything about flashing ROM's and the phone is only a day old so I am a little worried about trying it.
The first thing I suppose.....is there anyway of backing up the ROM and anything else needed to return the phone to a Telstra branded ROM for warranty purposes if required.
I am at my wits end with this phone in it's current form as I am trying to run it with a vodafone SIM, so all the Telstra shortcuts and websites don't work anyway, that and the Telstra tab seems to replace the weather tab with the current ROM.
I suppose I had better see if I can search the forum for instructions on flashing ROM's for dummies....anyone know a good thread?
Flashing a ROM is not difficult its flashing an spl that is scary(since if you mess up or if your device shuts off while its in the process you have a brick in your hands now, with a rom all you need to do is try again.), also if you want it to be at stock condition if you want to revert back to the original ROM, then use USPL, doesn't change the spl. You have to dump the ROM from the device and then you save it some where safe, then you flash a ROM of your choice. Its not that hard to initiate the process though, since its basically the same for all the devices, if you search around here on the forum for a guide then that should do you some good , but since I am nice here are some useful links.
Guide to flashing:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Flashing Guide
USPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=462347
HSPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=431217
List of cooked ROMs:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=464463
Awesome, thanks for that, I am off to do some reading, one quick question...
On the first guide it says I need to CID-unlock the phone, it that what USPL and HSPL can do for me?
Yea, you don't have to cid unlock since its not available for the Blackstone yet.
Just HardSPL'd my Telstra BLAC120?
I've just used HardSPL on my Telstra Touch HD which is a BLAC120? Is it safe to continue flashing ROM's or can I somehow go back to the original SPL? Then use USPL?
The phone is still in working order after the HardSPL Flash.
Cheers,
-Lucus
HSPL is perfectly fine, but if you want it to be like stock(for warranty purposes), just use USPL to flash the original spl back. You are perfectly fine how you are Lucus Maximus.

This is making my head spin.....been reading and downloading and I am getting very confused, once it all falls into place I am guessing it is going to be easy.
Right I would like to dump the existing ROM and flash with a new one....I need to confirm the steps and what is required.
CID-Unlock the phone, from what you said I don't need to worry about this part
1. Run USPL - have downloaded v2.4...should be good to go
2. What is RUU Update as it mentions it in the instructions for USPL
3. I am guessing at this point I need to backup the existing ROM, not sure how this is done
3. Then the guide says to download the new ROM and run the exe and follow the steps.....sounds easy enough
Some of the guides don't really explain much.....anyway I am thinking of giving it a go.
So do you flash radio's and splash screens using the same method.
Sorry for all the questions (I am guessing you have heard them all before, but I can't find a thread from a ROM flashing virgin like me with all the info), I have been reading, but gets a little confusing after a while.
Ok, RUU update is just the .exe file to use the .nbh(rom file) so it can start flashing.
Hmmm. . . . . .if I had any htc device right now I would make a video guide. . . .
It takes like 2 times for you to get used to flashing a phone, don't worry we have all been there .

Thanks for that....right now to go and find myself a new ROM.
Just out of interest, which ROM did you use Lucas?
Been looking at this.......
Dutty's ROMS
What is the difference with these:
HD V1.7 5.2.20769.1.4.5 Full CVSD WWE
HD V1.7 5.2.20769.1.4.5 Full MSVC WWE
I am yet to work out all this ROM talk......I am guessing WWE is the English version, but what is "CVSD" & "MSVC"
Oh and how do I work out what radio version these ROMS use to make sure it is the same as the one I have
When you turn on your device, look at the red R and see what it says, then when you flash a ROM with a different radio, just re flash yours.(same process as flashing a ROM but easier, and there are different radios available to DL).

FAQ: What are CVSD and MSVC.
Solution: CVSD is Cyberon Voice Speed Dial which is mostly the default voice application in most shipped ROMs. MSVC is Microsoft Voice Command which is an advance voice application from MS.
I tried Black Pearl, but most things I've read are saying that Dutty's is the best, so giving that a go now.
As long as I can get all the telstra site settings working I'll stick with it otherwise it's back to the Telstra ROM untill I can find out a way to get it all working.
-Lucus
Too easy, flashed the ROM to Duttys v1.7
Now to go and find all the missing ring tones and stuff, I think I saw something in a thread about Dutty having extra cabs to install this stuff...
I would recommended this to anyone who is trying to run the Telstra branded HD on anything other than the Telstra network.
Getting there now, I have managed to download all the ringtones and stuff, so I have more than the 3 ringtones supplied with the ROM
Where is this MSVC that is supposed to be part of the ROM???
Off to search some more and see what other software I can find.
This has made the Telstra branded HD a lot better, all Telstra branding has gone, including splash screen and the phone actually works now, can get POP3 email, Internet, Exchange email etc without an issue.
The first thing it did was set the phone up for the correct Network as soon as I put in the SIM and powered it up....great!
Well I was really pissed off with the HD with all the Telstra branding and was at the point of returning the HD and going back to the iPhone, but now things are starting to look up......we will see how things go.

Yep, all you needed to do is change the ROM, you didn't need to return anything. It was just the shipped ROM that's all.
Thanks again for your help....
Still trying to find the MSVC app in Dutty's ROM v1.7???
I downloaded the MSVC version, but can't see the application
great info here guys, just got my HD the other day and dislike all the Telstra branding. one question though before I begin changing ROM's, did you guys finally end up getting the weather tab to work, or the "customize tabs" option in the settings tab?
cheers,
Ditto! Can someone pls confirm Dutty's ROM has weather+stocks tab etc? And can someone who downloaded the Telstra ROM off HTC please mirror it somewhere? (attach here or mediafire it etc). Or if anyone has an official Blackstone rom from another region that would be good too... many thanks!

HELP - Vodafone UK user, ROM issues? *noob*

I recently bought my HTC HD2 from Vodafone UK, it has a ROM 1.43.405.1 and I cannot update the ROM from HTC website because after insert my SN in the validation box it tells me I cannot get the update....
What should I do?
I saw many ROMs on 4shared but I think they not the same in the HTC site...If they are which one of the should I get for my HTC and why? Will I be able to use my phone with my UK Sim?
Help please...
Windows on your ROM is licensed software, and you bought the license implicitly with your Leo, therefore is it "not possible" to just change ROM.
Having said that , google the forum a bit for SSPL and/or HSPL. there are several (graphical) guides that will tell you how to use them (sticky threads).
good luck!
anyone? someone? help me!

I thought that too but on 4shared they do not describe the features.
Any idea where can I see the features?
To put on other non mobile brand ROM, I must unlock the mobile first, right?
If that is the case, how do I unlock it?
If I put one ROM in the mobile and them upload another one will it delete the features from the one that was on the phone previously?
flashing roms is not connected to thee phone being network locked. it will still be locked after you flash it.
look for a world wide english rom version 1.66 (with 1.66 and wwe I'm the name)

No, doing a hard reset will only ever restore it to the rom you last flashed.
To get back to 'as you bought it' you need to find the rom that matches your device.
(for example in your case, voda UK, you find this rom
RUU_Leo_Vodafone_UK_1.43.405.1_Radio_Signed_15.26. 50.07U_2.04.50.22_2_Ship.exe
)
If you then need to get back to stock, and remove HSPL, you can do it with that rom. (not quite as simple as just flashing it, , see the HSPL thread for how to remove HSPL)

Like I mentioned I am a noob lol....I got here just by trying to understand why couldnt I update my ROM.
One more question, each ROM completely cleans the before it, right? The features do not stuck up (add on)?
I would advise AGAINST blindly leeching any ROM from any online file sharer.
check this forum, read a bit, and select a ROM from a chef that has cooked something you like (speed, looks like stock, removed HTC, removed bloatware, etc etc). I've tried many, and almost all on this forum are excellent (some are more excellent than others though)..
Flashing a ROM completely cleans ALL settings on your phone, all data is gone, besides whatever is on your SD card.
same if you select Settings/Wipe Device option from the start menu.

Be aware that whilst flashing wipes all your old data/settings and such like, it doesn't necessarily wipe the old rom before flashing the new one, just flashes over it.
Roms can be different file sizes, (just compare a few RUU_Signed.nbh file sizes) so sometimes files can be left over from the previous rom. If you start getting random resets and freezes when you didnt before, it could be a sign of a bloated rom. Have a read of the mtty sticky. It looks a little overwhelming at first read, but dead simple really, and basically formats your rom before you flash the new rom.
my 2 pence here...
get the official WWE 1.66 ROM and see if that helps the phone, the 1.43 VF ROM is crap and both 1.48 and 1.66 are miles better so first thing is to give these a go. If, after successfully installing it, you wanna try something else then do so...
and read the n00b thread at the top of this forum...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=609477
it tells you what to do, with videos if needed...
Hi, I have the same vf handset and was sick of the crappy ROM, I upgraded yesterday after weeks of research and was surprised how easy it was.
However, having had a day to test out my new 1.66 ROM, I have unfortunately found some problems and part of me think maybe I should have waited a little longer for vf to release it officially.
I'm hoping you guys will be able to help again as it may just need different tweaks to the settings...
1. The first problem is that Opera is slightly different, the settings tab has changed, it no longer allows zooming (including pinch zooming) and the pages are not displayed as full width. I have played with all the setting I can in Opera and BsB Tweaks but no joy.
2. I can no longer access TV catchup through Skyfire. The advertisement plays as normal and then it says "non-UK, unauthorised". Is this because it is a WWE ROM and not a UK one? Why isn't there a specific UK ROM like there was for 1.48?
3. Although the alarm volume bug seems to have been fixed, the alarm popup doesn't come up any more when it goes off, making it very difficult to "snooze" or "dismiss".
4. Several error messages have come up relating to the actual phone app, messaging app and audiomanager. The phone has also crashed and gone slow a bit and overall the messaging app is a little more buggy despite it appearing to send all messages.
Any advice would be much appreciated as this does seem as though it could be a much better ROM with some great benefits.
1.48 was also a WWE ROM - there hasn't been a set UK one other than ISP-based ones

Fair enough. I was just going by what it was implying on the HTC support page. 1.48 specifically says UK whereas 1.66 simply says WWE and makes no mention of UK.
Does anyone have any advice on the issues I'm having?
Also, if I wanted to revert back to the vf 1.43 ROM using the SD card to remove HSPL, how do I know the file I've downloaded from the shared folders is exactly the same as I had before? I read that it is more risky flashing without HSPL as you have less chance of fixing it if something goes wrong, does this also go for the method of reverting back using the SD card as it is removing the HSPL?

How to Hack SPL 1.24

Hi All,
After spending a large amount of time trying to find a solution for the SPL 1.24 to hack. Mainly the Telstra Australia WM6.5 Upgrade. Combining the many efforts of XDA Members I finally got a proper working hack going. I thought I'd post it straight away for the rest of the world to see.
First what you need to do is download the WM6.5 Upgrade from the HTC Website. When you open this you need to go to Start - Run - Type %TEMP% Find the location where the extractor has dumped the files and rename RUU_Signed.nbh to MAPLIMG.nbh. Copy this to the root of the SD Card. Reset your phone into Bootloader and let the flash start. It will fail at 10% than reset itself and install it properly.
From here you need to download a cab clearsecurity.cab which is suppose to be for the Samsung Blackjack 2 but it enables the HTC Snap to be hacked.
From there download the desired Custom Rom and run 1.19 auto.bat and watch the screen go black and the custom rom install.
Any Success???
Hi, can anyone let me know if they have had the same success???
Hi Roger,
Thanks for the post as it worked a treat for me, I was able to flash the HTC Snap after following the above steps. One thing I didn't do is backup the Telstra spl 1.24, Do you know where I can get a copy from?
Once again thanks for the post.
Mr.D
THis looks great. I'd love to try this now, but before I do, I'm hoping you might be able to answer a question of mine, to ease my mind:
If you need to reinstall the original Rom and SPL 1.24, is there any way the the Telecom company can see that the phone's firmware has been previously changed?
Thanks.
Flashing back to Telstra 6.5 Rom
Hey guys, I believe you can just download the latest 6.5 Telstra Rom for the snap from the HTC website. I havern't tried it since I have hacked the phone and the only reason why you would obviously do it is for warranty. Actually I also found out that you can get WM 6.1 rom but you need to contact HTC and you can upload it from there FTP. Sorry I can't provide any more assitance maybe when my phone breaks and I need to flash it back I will post up what I have done.
Hi Roger
Thanks for the reply. This is what's stopping me from trying to flash the ROM. Knowing whether I can restore it back to it's original condition without the telecom company knowing it's been flashed. The phone is only new and if it does develop a hardware problem and I had to send it back, I'm sure they won't fix it under the warranty if they can see that it's been flashed.
If as you suggest, it's just a matter of re-flashing it with the original rom, then that's fantastic. But, I'd really like some firm confirmation before going ahead.
The ROM developed by ookba looks AMAZING and I can't wait to try it.
Thanks.
Flashing Advice
Hi Badcam,
I have owned many HTC phones and I have to say the Snap is probably the most durable out of them all. I find with the Snap and the newer models of the HTC phones from australian carriers they really lock them down and you don't get the full functions as what you pay for. Worst of all they infest the phone with all these carrier features that are not needed.
It is really your choice flashing your phone. Every single phone I have had I have flashed and never had problems only when I drop them lol. For warranty purposes you can always flash back to orginal rom and just tell them thats how you got it. They really can't say much. But I did abit of reading and when you do upgrade the rom from HTC website it does install SPL 1.24 back meaning if you want to flash it back you need to go through the hack again.
Hope this has been helpful.
You said it Roger.
There's so much Telecom rubbish on this phone, it's not funny.
Well, I'll give it a go this weekend. If you're happy it's going to work, I am too. Thanks very much for your advice.
Hey do you guys know how much (in USD) a Telstra SNAP is out there if you buy it outright? Can can anyone ship me one to the States?
What about a TelecomNZ one?
http://store.telecom.co.nz/mobile/pay-monthly/htc-s523
NZ$499.00 is around US$361
http://www.xe.com/ucc/convert.cgi?Amount=499.00&From=NZD&To=USD&x=16&y=17
I'd be happy to sort something out for you. PM me if you'd like.

Thanks but that's kinda rough. I get the MAPL100 (Dash 3G) here for $100. Looking to get a SNAP S523 for around that, even used. Let me know if you run across one. Thanks!
It's atrocious. Believe it or not, that's a good price. It's just come down NZ$200. Of course, I had to buy my two days before the reduced it.
I'll keep an eye out.

Hi, can anyone tell me how to get the device into bootloader mode? i have followed the steps, but getting it into bootloader mode and then letting it hardspl from the sd is not happening :-( THANKS!!!
Can't find clearsecurity.cab. Can anyone tell me where to find it?
Attempt to answer questions lol
Benzin,
Type in google "clearsecurity.cab download" and find the mediafire link
If you have problems please let me know. Maybe XDA-Developers already have it posted.
wcampagne,
So you are getting into bootloader right, its just not picking up the MAPLIMG.nbh file. You have renamed RUU_Signed.nbh to MAPLIMG.nbh. Also a train of through if you have tried applying previous Roms before hand I suggest you go to %TEMP% file and remove anything that is there that has reference to RUU_Signed or the rom at all. You are probably uploading the wrong file as it might be cached. As I said its just a train of thought. If you have any more problems please feel free to post up and I will figure out a fix for you.
Ookba,
Ebay is your best bet. I got my handset for $150 AUD brand new on bid.
Works great for me and I thank you so much!

Used to use cooked rom, phone function sudden failed.

I used to use cooked rom, tried 6.1, 6.5 and 6.5.x.
Failed to search for phone signal today, confirmed not SIM card problem.
Will cooked rom damage hardware? Thanks!
I don't think so , Hard-reset your phone with your Sim-card inside it and it will work again
If the problem still persist, try to install radio from this link :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=440503
If that does not solve the problem, I think the only way is to install a shipped ROM that suits with your phone's specification (ELF or ELFIN, Model ID and etc).
But don't forget to return your SPL and IPL to origina ones when you will load a shipped ROM. You can find them on XDA Wiki.
Hope your Elf (Elfin?) will be Ok!
How can I know my original IPL? SPL?
if you didn't run the dsixda script before hand that grabs all your information, and have sinced changed your IPL/SPL then I'm not sure.
However, If you know your phone model number (T-MOB0005 etc.) You may be able to guesstimate to what they were based on that - Personally, I think that could be a bit risky, but it was worth the suggestion.
Do you remember if you have changed the IPL and SPL? You could always run the dsixda script now to see what you have. It should be in the ROM section
Sorry I can't be more help, but I can only make a suggestion as to how, as I have always took a note of them before starting anything.
At the same time - I also have an elf that is unable to connect to a network, I have tried radio upgrades etc and custom roms, so if you do fix it, I know that I would appreciate the outcome, as would many others who have posted the same issue - In the mean time I am continuing my hunt for a fix for it

If you haven't changed them, then you could well still be able to use your shipped rom.
but if you don't know what they were, and have changed them, then yes, custom roms is the only way for you, from what I understand.
