Sat Nav stop working - Touch HD General

Im running the original WM6.1 rom on my touch HD and have both copilot 6 and iGo8 installed. But today while using iGo8 it went crazy, giving me wrong directions and starting to re-calculate a new route. I tried copilot and the screen did not move at all despite me driving along. All the other features of these sat nav programs work fine as before and the device seems to be functioning normally with texting, calling etc. Has anyone experienced this? I'm beginning to think it might be a hardware problem because I've not changed any of the settings and it stopped working out of the blue..

GPS Problems on a new G1

I'm on my third G1. The first one died to some strange graphics issue where the screen would go completely pixilated and wacky on me. I think the graphics processor was overheating. On the second one the touch screen died about the same time the speaker in started buzzing during calls.
Luckly because TMobile extends your warranty 90 days every time you get a new phone, I've only had to pay for shipping. I got the latest one, and immediately installed Cyanogen 4.2.5 on it. No problems. Then I followed Michael Mayhew's instructions for the maps update to get Navigation.
I can't get the GPS to work at all. I've since tried going back to RC29, or the base Cyanogen 4.2.5 without the maps hack. I've tried other GPS applications such as the Chartcross GPSTest. I can't get a read at all on any of them. I don't know if it was working before the updates, because I never tried to use maps before I installed the mod.
So I'm wondering somehow a radio update was applied that broke this phone, or if there is anything I can do to change the gps drivers around. Anyone with similar GPS failure issues?
I don't really want to return this one as I've only had it one day!
Yes, similar issues. No solution thus far. I also did not test GPS before flashing. OOPS?!? And now it no longer works, but I can't tell if that was the case to begin with.
I followed the same procedure (CM 4.2.5, Navigation mod), and had the same result--broken GPS. "My Location" not working, "Searching for GPS" forever, etc.
So two possibilities I can see:
1) hardware problem w/GPS
2) one or a combination of CM 4.2.5 + Nav = broken GPS
I have seen a few people on these boards say their GPS doesn't work all of a sudden. In fact, there are stock Droid owners with issues.
Can anybody chime in?
Hmmm
So for about 10 minutes on Friday it started working again. Totally random, I have no idea why. I was at a party and decided to see if it was working. All of a sudden I had signal (using GPSTest) and google maps found my location.
I've since tried it several times, rebooting, and doing a bunch of other stuff. I can't get it working again. Total fluke! So frustrating!
Well now the new version of google maps is in the market. I've successfully installed that one but still no GPS.
Im having the same issue on my G1 right now. Sorry for the Zombie thread, but did this ever get resolved?
I've had the gps fail on my phone and others I know have also. The g1 seems to have issues with the gps antenna strip breaking internally so one minute you'll have reception, the next.. nothing. Only solution is to find a new antenna strip and replace it (good luck!)
Aside from possible hardware failures, the GPS units on these phones tend to be very weak. Sometimes it *IS* impossible to get a strong enough signal to lock on, even when out in the open if there is something nearby that can reflect the GPS signals.
However note that these are AGPS devices, which means that with a cell connection and a data connection, and given that google knows the coordinates of the cell tower you are connected to, it is able to load assistance data (almanac + accurate time synchronization via NTP), and this will *GREATLY* improve your chances of getting a good lock and greatly reduce the time it takes.

I doubt that it was the GPU overheating. Your phone would burn your hand if it got that hot.
The in-call buzzing could be corrected by shifting the screen a little bit while it is happening. It is related to GSM interference with the speaker. The speaker is literally playing the radio waves emitted by the phone. The touchscreen issue was probably a broken cable... also related to moving the screen.

What radio version are you running?
I've also had no luck getting a GPS signal ever since I installed hacked navigation... I wonder if that's the problem? Has anyone tried removing the hacked navigation, to see if that solves the problem?
BTW, the problem started on CM 4.1 with EBI0 radio (2.22.19.26I), and still persists with CM 5.0.7... Has anyone tried upgrading their radio to 2.22.23.02? How about the folks that have gone back to the Updated Rogers EBI1 Radio (3.22.26.17)?
I have been having the "searching for gps" problem as long as I can remember (although I just got this phone a month or two ago)....I remember trying to install the hacked navigation or something so maybe that messed it up?...this phone was never opened, and I would hate to have to open it up to see if it is a hardware issue because I may not put it back as it was. IDK what to do, I even started a thread about it and tried every solution I could find and nothing worked for me....
I wish someone could chime in here with some insight...but it is also nice to hear others with this issue and their advice/ideas also...
Has anyone tried un-rooting and returning the phone back to complete stock and wiping everything ? has that worked for anyone?

TomTom pause during announcements...

TomTom runs fine on my HD2 apart from pausing when announcing directions i.e.
"After......................2 hundred yards turn left".
Has anyone else found this or know a fix for it?
I have installed the later version 7.917 and it still does it! The previous version 7.915 also did it although it worked fine on my old Omnia II...
anyone??????????????
I think its a known problem, I had this problem on my old Diamond 2... I went to Garmin instead..
I get the same thing happening with IGO8 even when nothing else is running.
That's a shame as it is a bit annoying! I did notice that some mortscripts I wrote have pauses in between wav files I linked to, on every other WM device I ran them on the files are continuosly played like they are one sound file...

GPS not working

After reading numerous posts, trying endless number of ROMs and radios, I must ask for help regarding my GPS.
Everything started with finding a simple WM6.5 ROM having a locking software that would prevent accidental dialing, turning of the mic with my face and would have a nice unlocking screen. From my point of view, thats a big problem for the ROM chefs.
Anyway, after trying PocktShield (problems with dialing from contacts if you choose the default dialer- why don't they solve it?) and S2U2 (showing wrong time on lock screen after wake -up) in combination with probably all availible ROMs I could find on XDA, while flashing the last time the touch screen on my HD stopped working. Went to the service, the guy said: 200 - 300€! Yeah, right! But, after few more days, it came back to life and seemed to be working fine - except the GPS.
So, I'm clueless and need help. My data:
OS 5.2.23568
ROM: BC_Cloudy_1.8 WWE
Manila: 2.5.20121225.2
And, yes, I use QuickGPS, and My Location and Google Maps, and VisualGPS and HTC GPS Tools and Garmin XT and I was waiting for hours under the blue sky... It seems like the GPS works, but there is no signal...
So, any ideas?
Radio: 1.14.25.24
I've the same problem after sending my HD for some repairs regarding to the display. I've already checked the gps with the official rom too but there was still no amendment. I guess I've to send it in again -.- maybe they cut an access to the receiver. anyway, it bothers me...
Does anybody know where the receiver is placed? Prehaps I could replace it...

Android GPS Issue!

Now we have so many great Android ROMs for HD2. However, I have yet failed to find a ROM that has GPS working completely. Some RoM has GPS locking issue, other locks but freeze so many times. lets face it, we are driving, we are on the road, and we are lost, and the next thing you want is your GPS stop working on you in the middle, taking the phone out of the case, and pulling the batteries, and waiting for it to boot up again, probably by then most of us has left our destination about 10 miles away.
So in this thread, I want everyone to list the ROM that has the GPS working completely.
Thanks,
move to question forum. AGPS is not working yet, thats why there is the GPS issue

I have never had GPS issues with any of the Android ROMs I have used. Occasionally when using IGO8 I have had the phone reboot but this was only minor. See my sig for the ROM I am currently using without a problem. If you still experience issues then I suggest you try removing any additional programs you installed as they may be causing conflicts. You don't say what navigation program you use as this could also be a problem. In addition to using IGO for car navigation, I also use MM Tracker for hill walking so I always make sure that I fully test GPS on any build I use as I could end up lost on a mountain!
Try Typhoon ROM with the GPS fix .. without GPS fix it takes as long as 10 minutes but with the fix its as fast 15-30 second .. I've been using for over a month and haven't had any problem. Battery and Bluetooth is unbelievable. And I do agree that at this point if it freezes up its probably some apps that cause the problem .. not the ROM itself. G'luck!

GPS losing signal, heats, freezes, drains battery

I've been using HyperDroid rom for a long time and been having issues with my navigation software for a while and I'm not sure what the exact problem is.
I'm using iGO My Way and sometimes the GPS will work fine for a while and then a lot of times it loses signal after about 4 minutes and won't lock back on until I reboot the phone and restart the program.
Then at other times the phone gets hot and will just freeze.
I also noticed after these things happen it won't help turning the GPS on/off, it will keep draining the battery even if I turn it off. I always have to reboot to get everything back to normal.
So I don't know if the GPS module is bad, or if it's not a good idea to use iGO.
I haven't tried using other navigation software since I need an offline one with maps of Israel. I don't have a data plan.
I did use SportyPal many times in the past for cycling with GPS and it never froze.
Try to use Sygic for a week...with this one I doesn't had any of your issues since android was given to our leo!
Hey thanks! I gave Sygic a try and the GPS actually connects much faster and so far I didn't lose signal in the middle. Also the phone doesn't get as hot as with iGO. It only froze once, but I'll keep testing it. It's much smoother and faster than iGO though.
Well, sadly, I lose signal with Sygic also...
I don't know what the problem is :/
Sygic
i have been using Sygic from quite a while now. It does not works well with few of the ROMS.
Currently i am using American Android 2.3.7 and it works like a charm for me with it.
Which ROM are you using ?
HyperDroid 5.8.0 but seems like no one else is complaining about GPS issues.
Could be the radio version (2.15.50.14) or maybe the GPS module on my phone is defected...
chance your rom
You can change your rom bro.I think you have to
Because radio is not problem 2.15....... is very good.I am using same radio, but different rom.I havent problem with igo or sygic
Yeah but I like HyperDroid. It's fast and stable!
I'm waiting for the ICS roms to get better... then I'll probably switch.
Hello
Sorry for bumping this but I have exactly the same problem. This has nothing to do with Sygic. The problem can arise with any application that uses the GPS and fails to shut it off properly (at least that's what I understand). From the moment that this happens, the GPS doesn't work anymore, heats up the phone and drains the battery fast. The only way to get it back working is to reboot the phone. Turning the GPS off and on, doesn't change anything.
I had this problem since 2.3.7. I had found a kernel update that had fixed the problem in that version (dorimanx's kernel but I can't remember the version) but since I upgraded to ICS and now JB the problem came back. With JB it works much better but it is there. With ICS it was a nightmare. I have tried many (over 10) different ROMs and each and every one of them had the problem. This is something that has been around for ages and nobody seems to have found the real cause or a remedy. I'd love to cure it since I love my HD2 and it's the only thing that is marring its performance. Have you had any success with it?
Regards
George
i to have had this problem and i find it to be a rom problem will work ok for a hour or two then have to reboot the phone the only rom i seem to get it to work ok are the old gb light roms its about 120 deoxd
Had the same problems with most of the sensation or other sense Roms. The problem is solved since i use 4.x.x Roms as dataonsd installations. Now googlemaps works like a charm. Love the traffic info
