I've downloaded the application for Facebook from the Microsoft website. It installed just fine and I can log in without a problem. But when it refreshes, it just won't stop fetching! Nothing else happens...
Is there anyone who experienced the same problem? Or better... Is the a solution for this problem?
I had the fetching problem whenever I clicked on Inbox in the facebook software. After a week or 2, it just fixed itself.

Strange... but it seems to work like that. Suddenly some of the tabs are working now, while others are still not. Perhaps in a few days, they will also work.

also which is the best facebook chat application since the oficial one doesn't have any
I get that and also my wall does not update im stuck on June the profile does and all my friends walls all update fine, i think the must be some bugs in the thing

Hi, just wanted to know if you ever found the reason for the "hang on fetching" and the erratic Facebook operation.
Mine does seem to update friends walls, but very few photos show up...just FETCHING or the hourglass (spinning balls)
Inbox also just stays fetching for hours.

i've had this problem as well...seems like a general facebook problem. it's sad how smooth the iphone version is but how little time/development they have put into the winmo version. hopefully there'll be a new release soon..

I just wanted to ask whether anyone else had run into the same problem or now. I have installed HTC Generic 2.73.405.5 with radio 63.18.55.06EU_6.35.06.18 on my unbranded Hero and it has been great. Really fast and it seems less buggy.
However I had one major issue. When I turned on my phone this morning all my contacts were gone! So I went into data synchronisation and made sure the box was ticked.
I ticked and unticked it, however things aren't quite syncing up properly at the moment. The contacts are back, but when I make edits on my phone they are not carrying through to google's servers ... Any advice? Anyone else having this problem?
EDIT: I have tried syncing my contacts again. After the little arrows stop spinning the last updated time still stays the same. It's stuck on 07:22 at the moment and it's 07:39 here ...
EDIT2: This problem exists on the wifi and mobile data connection.
Could it be that this is a problem on Google's end?

God damn! My Hero deleted all its contacts again. It takes ages to sync changes and if you do too many at once it just doesn't do it, crashes and deletes all your contacts.

I have posted a support ticket with HTC, I'll see what they say.
I already experienced an "issue" with a delay from google contacts.
But I deleted everything, then synched and after a while (about 15 minutes) all contacts where shining in my Hero.
I have similar issue.
I can get my contacts from Google but cannot make new ones on the server side. I will check it thoroughly later on and report you back.

The whole option to add to Google contacts is missing on mine. Google contacts are still present and seemingly updating.
So not exactly the same behaviour, but might be worth checking your phone.
I have a TMO TP2. This does not involve the fb app but rather the built in feature to link a contact to a fb account. I've searched the forums but haven't found a similar issue described.
When I go to a contact, click Edit Contact, then click Link at the bottom under the Facebook heading, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I can't consistently reproduce the issue but I can describe some of the common themes I see. It's unfortunate because it seems to happen more often than not and it's quite annoying.
Sometimes it pulls up my fb contacts list and lets me select a fb account and it works no problem. I'm not having any problems with delinking or anything like that. It appears to be an issue pulling up the list of facebook users. In those instances, the screen flickers as it tries to pull up the fb contacts and it appears to crash or something. The screen then flickers back to edit contact. If I try long enough or wait and try a while later, it may work for the same contact.
An error is never displayed when I do this although sometimes after trying to link a contact and seeing it not work I'll go back to the home screen I'll see that touchflo 3d is launching (indicating that perhaps it crashed) or sometimes it'll even require that I tap the screen to relaunch touchflo 3d.
Another possible clue is that sometimes in my list of facebook contacts I'll see the very first contact listed as (null), (null). I have no idea if this has anything to do with why it's crashing or not but that's clearly not one of my facebook contacts.
Last possible tip is when I go to all contacts and then click on the updates and events toggle at the bottom. Again, the behavior is inconsistent but sometimes it'll pull up that screen for a couple of seconds and without touching or scrolling or anything it'll show an error with manila.exe.
Is anyone else experiencing anything like this? Anyone have a suggestion for a possible fix or what I can do to further troubleshoot? Thanks in advance.
i know this doesnt solve your problem but it might do you good to know you are not alone cos I have a similar problem as well. I use the Vodafone stock ROM and recently when i try get click the UPDATES tab from my contacts, it crashes and relaunches TFD....I think something must have gone wrong with the connection. I then asked another person to log into into face book to see if this was still going to crash the application and sadly it did. I did a hard reset and i then did a restore from my last sprite backup file (which luckily for me, was just a few hours old as i ran a back up during the day). Now i cant get my own contacts back on the update tab and even though it does not crash anymore, I cant seem to link anyone in my phone book to my facebook app. I guess there is a file that needs deleting that can fix this. Anyone got any ideas?
I'm having a problem with the 'events and updates feature' retrieving updates from facebook.
When I select the 'update now' option in the 'updates and events' section for a contact it never retrieves any facebook information for any of the contacts.
All of my contacts are correctly linked to their facebook accounts but the application never picks up ANY updates.
Any ideas? I'm on O2 btw
your "me" contact card needs to be logged in, check that, also in the pictures tab, albums, switch to facebook tab..can you see their pictures?
if not you're not logged in.

I dont use facebook so cant really suggest anything else. I do know from the missus that fbook website has been flakey for her this past week or two, and i'm sure i read they are currently moving datacenters or something, so who knows. Maybe your friends just all stopped updating!
I dont really know how the application itself works, but for me, the updates seem to take a while (as an indication, about 3 or 4 minutes for 500 friends over wifi - dont know how big a difference the number of friends make). I've got to keep touching the screen so that it doesn't go into "sleep" mode otherwise it stops and I have to start again.
If I leave the screen on the "Updates and Events" page while it says "Updating...", the info will not automatically update even once all the data has been downloaded. I have to move across to another page (eg, Favourites, Groups, etc and then scroll back to see the actual updates.

Facebook updates working only for some contacts
For me it works for some contacts but not for all.
Just got my HD2 2 days ago, so so far only 10 people/contacts are linked to facebook.
- 9 fail to deliver/retrieve updates,
- 1 works
I noticed that the one status update that I received was really new, so I just wonder if there is somewhere a setting on how old the status updates can be, to be seen on the HD2.
I also had on unanswered event request, that one worked well.
One more issue, I can browse the album of almost all facebook contacts, but it's not working for one. does anybody know what could be the reason. Are only alboms which are set to be viewed by anybody browsable by HD2 (not the ones only visible to friends)?
I had the same issue, worked for a few days then would attempt to update, appeared to do so but no new info present.
Ended up having to go to Start/settings/data services/social networks and turn off facebook and then do it again.
After this for some strange reason it now works and has continued to for weeks.
All of a sudden I got "An error had occurred while fetching data [null]" every time I want to see my live feed and my own profile from my Nexus One phone (stock Facebook app). I have no problem accessing it from the browser or PC.
Strange thing though, when i log out, then re-login using OTHER facebook account, I can see the live feed and the profile page no problem. Everything works fine again.
However, once i login using MY account, problem starts again.
I have hard reset my N1, problem still there.
Any idea? Please help.
I like the stock Facebook app on N1, don't really want to install another app or use browser to access it.
Oh and my N1 is stock, no root yet.

Calm down and take a deep breath I have the same problem. It is not your phone it is facebook server. I had the problem yesterday shortly and today in the morning. Now it seems ok for me...wait until they repair the problem and use the browser application in the meantime...

I've had this issue on the Desire ROM where the live feed on the Friend Stream just refuses to update... I was "locked out" for a few days.
strange, it wasn't working for a while until u put the facebook widget on my home. click on the facebook icon, then ta-da! all working again.
Not sure if it was a coincidence...
It's a problem with some 3rd party apps that push data to your facebook feed and the client's interpretation of the XML. Zynga apps being one of them.
You can experiment by hiding various 3rd party apps form your facebook feed (or logging in when you get the error on a computer and seeing what apps were there and not on your phone).
Once they're hidden (or, over time as they pass further down the history list) your feed will work fine.
i don't play games on facebook, nor have i allow any games to be on my profile.
strange, but it works ok now.
Not just games this can be form ANY third party app that has an illegal character in it....this includes quizes, "who visited your profile", horoscopes, any of those things, anything that is not a pure-facebook update.

Am new to HTC Android Phone. I have setup my contacts photos to be picked up from the respective Facebook Profiles. Although this happened the first time, if a contact changes the photo on facebook it is not getting updated in the phone? Is there a way to manually force an update??
Facebook sync is enabled (i guess once every 12 hours) and it has been several days since the contact updated the profile pic on FB.

It seems that the facebook sync method doesn't check if the facebook profile pic is updated or not. Probably to save network bandwidth and sync time. But it is kind of annoying that it is not updated.
I have exactly the opposite problem. The pictures assigned to my contacts in google keep getting updated with those in facebook. While I don't mind that for contacts that do not have pictures in Google, it is quite annoying for such that do.
i pressed the sync all widget and all my face book images updated
my legend is rooted and running the modaco rom tho

Strange that it works for you. Can't see how a root or new rom would change anything. I have the same problem, using stock unrooted rom. Kinda hoped it would be fixed with new update, but no luck

I was also facing the problem of getting updated display pic from facebook and thought that there wasn't anyway to solve.. until after i ran into the FriendStream problem.
My FriendStream started acting strange and refuses to update friends' status today, it force closes when i try to launch the application proper. After reading up online, I did what others suggested, remove the facebook account and re-add it to FriendStream.. It got my FriendStream working again, plus a bonus - it "re-linked" with all my contacts in People and updated their profile pics! =D
Might take a while for it to fetch all the display pics again though, so I'd recommend doing it with a WiFi connection

i know this is an old thread so hoping there was a better fix for this issue? terribly annoying
Doing a refresh in the friendstream app updates the photo in the app but not the contact photo
I have found no way to update the photos till now... have even tried unlinking the Facebook profile from the contact and readding - no use...
