Anyone got a G1 for Spare Parts? - G1 General

I've just put a complete replacement case on my G! as I dropped it and scrached the old one. But when I put in the last screws to hold the back on I screwed through the Antenna Wire that goes from the top of the phone to the bottom
Don't suppose anyone has one of these spare from a broken G1?
Matt.

I want your broken wizard!

Please, its been about a month since the earpiece on my wizard died and i can't find the part anywhere! I found one damaged wizard on ebay which sold for $400 with a damaged screen! obviously a fradulent buyer but the seller hasn't replied yet.
So if your wizard is water damaged, smashed, or simply inoperable i need this one part to fix my earpiece. Also my brothers wizard's speakers are blown so it'd be great if i could get a hold of those two.
What i need is the ribbon cable which connected the main board to the top sliding half of the device. Its a ribbon cable attached to a circuit board on both ends.
Please i really need this so i can bring the phone part of my wizard back to life.
PM me if you know where i can get this part or if you have a damaged wizard.
Thanks in advance!
broken wizard!
i do have a working one with cracked screen. where are you located?
i should have mentioned that.. I'm in austin, texas. If u are over seas i can check to see if i can make it elligible for a corporate rate to ship it to me.
Also how much would u be wanted for it?
I'd offer you mine, but I got the same thing broken.
i just emailed 2 sellers on ebay which have cellphone parts and wizard housings in there stores, awaiting there reply. And i'm working something out with the one person with a damaged one from ebay.
What do you guys think $85 good for a wizard with a damaged screen?
broken wizard
I have a broken wizard--I dropped it, but I can still make calls from it via the bluetooth headset.
PM me if you are interested and I'll give you my phone #.
I've pm'd u, but does that mean your earpiece is broken as well? Cuz what i need is the ribbon cable that powers the earpiece, LCD, digitizer, softkeys, and everything else on the front half of the device. So if yours is broken then probably won't help mine out much.
i guess so. If you need an intact (front) then mine won't help--due to the fact that the "cal answer/hangup " buttons do not work.
The damaged one i bought off ebay came in today, swapped the parts out and now my earpiece is working again!! i'm so excited!!
Now i have all these parts lying around if anyone needs anything send them my way. The parts i got are:
The main board
Camera
Vibrator
Main housing (except for the front its really banged up)
Antenna
Keyboard
But no battery cover, didn't come with one.
Heres a pic of the mess i had on my desk but it all worked out perfectly
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I no longer have the damaged wizard so please don't PM asking for parts.
hey fone_fanatic, wondering if you ever experienced your Wizard creaking when you press down on the front faceplate(below the call/end buttons)....seems to come from the hinge right under the the right soft key (the one connected to the keyboard), only thing is it only makes noise when the keyboard is closed and my keyboard is not loose at all(nice and snug)....just wanted to know if you might know of a fix for my problem, would you recommend me taking it apart or just sending it in for a warranty repair or do you know if it is pretty easy to somehow shorten the gap between the front face and the keyboard?.... appreciate the time.
Regards,
P.S. My Wizard works fine, its just starting to get very annoying when I make/end phone calls.
no, mine doesn't make any noise when i press down there. well there is a noise but its coming from the battery cover. if your device is under warranty, i suggest sending it in if it bothers you that much. the reason being because when u open it up your bound to break a couple of clips which might make it worse.
fone_fanatic: I love that mess on your desk
You might want to mask out your First National Card though - edge detection filters would love that image...

don't worry about the card, its one of those advertisement cards you get in the mail syaing your pre-approved or whatever. i always keep those cards and use them with taking devices apart.

anyone got a 8125 with a cracked LCD but all other functions still working?
yes, i'm aware of pocket pc techs but they didn't have the part i needed to fix mine whihc is why i bought a damaged one and salvaged the part i needed out of it. Now i've got all these extra parts , but what to do with them...?
@ fone_fanatic
thanks for the advice....off to warranty it goes...hope it comes back with no new problems (fingers tightly crossed)....
Regards,
hey can I see that pic of the parts u got left?
I wouldnt mind buying a wizard with just a broken LCD if it was cheap. $180 to send it in to fix a LCD is super expensive when the phone is like $350 on ebay

The reason i bought it the this one with the damaged lcd is because i couldn't find the part i needed (Rigid Flex Board) anywhere so i swapped my broken one out with this one. So if i was to put this back together not only would the lcd be busted but the earpiece won't work also the speakers would be blown (sold good speakers to a friend). Also the front case is heavily scratched/dinged, looks like someone smashed a brick on the phone.

Coaxial Cable removal

Hi, I got the manual on how to dismantle the Uni. I have a question on how to remove the Coaxial cable (display) on the mainboard. Does it take some force doing it, coz I tried pulling it up and it won't budge. Please help.
Clem
figured it out...mods please close thread.
Sorry for digging up an old thread, but I have exactly the same problem. Can somebody help?
you need to peal back the grey sticky shield and there should be a black tab to pull (there are two plugs on the main board). they should come up fairly easily without much force.
Actually, if you tag on the gray silvery tape, it will pull both connectors loose. But you need to start pulling in the right direction - from the side opposite to the hinge up and towards the hinge.
Replacement coaxial
Does anyone know where I can get a replacement coaxial cable if this one is damaged? Or details for the specs on the one that comes with it. I know they're sold on digikey but i'm not sure of the specs on the default one in my Fuze to be certain of which to pruchase to replace it.

They are not that easy to damage and can be purchased on eBay, but I think we are not talking about Fuze. From my experience, devices with the same form factor as Fuze would have a flex, rather than a cable similar to HTC Universal (which, incidentally, is the device we are discussing on this forum)

Bricked Mogul for Sale?

My Titan just crapped out on me like a french poodle in heat at a britsh dog show. I dissembled it and found out my flex cable is cut and no good. I was wondering if anyone had a mogul they don't mind parting with or if they have a spare flex cable, the part that connects the screen to the board. Send me a PM or post if you can help out or point me in a good direction! Thanks!
Wow they sell pretty cheap huh? Good find!
Ill be opening up my dads mogul becuase his screen got cracked and be replacing it with a new one the screen was cheap and i got it from gsm4world.us they also have the flex cable if you still need it xD

Power button flex cable replacement

So my idiot brother tried taking apart his GSII the other night when drunk and slipped with a screw driver and busted the flex cable that connects the power button to the man board.
So I found a place in Germany that sells the cable, I ordered one and it has arrived.
The problem is that for the life of me I cannot figure out how to attach the new one, it's not a plug in part, but I think it's supposed to be soldered, or something, but the size of the soldering needed is beyond miniature!! I would need an iron being operated by Lilliputians!
Is there a way that this cable is supposed to be attached? I am at a loss of how it's supposed to be done. Samsung want $450 for a whole new PCBoard... screw that for a joke though!!
If I can't repair this myself I will just sell it for parts...
Here is a link to the "exploded view" of the phone... the part I am trying to replace is QVK02
http://www.scribd.com/doc/56542824/5/Cellular-phone-Exploded-View
PS Yeah my brother ordered another GSII when he was drunk and gave me this one... He should probably drink less!!
no clues anyone??
Do you have some sort of a picture of it? Picture of part, the busted part and the PCB where it belongs would be very helpful figuring this one out..
Maybe you can borrow your brothers new GS2 to take a picture of it with!
I beleive it's soldered to the main board.
I can double check to night when i come home, i have a main board that i can look at.
You probably could take help from a electronic repair shop that are used to solder small things.

PDMI USB connector

hi guys - i foolishly lent my streak to my sister for a while as she had broken her iphone and after a couple of weeks she called me up to say that it wasn't charging and was dead. I figured she'd just done something daft and it would be an easy fix but i got it back today and she's managed to pretty much destroy the pdmi connector (as well as break the rear door catch!) . Phone still works fine as i charged up the battery on the dock and fired it up.
So, is it possible to change the connector or is it soldered to the motherboard? If it's soldered i'm guessing it's a pretty specialist job to get it replaced? Or alternatively, is anybody interested in it for spares? It's in perfect condition as it's always had an invisible shield on it (just removed as it was getting a bit scabby) apart from the connector and rear panel catch....if there is any interest i can pop a thread on the marketplace.
Cheers
Niall
It's soldered. There may be companies which can replace the connector, but I'm not aware of them. You may want to look into replacing the motherboard by purchasing a Streak with a broken screen.
aye, that's what i thought...i've ordered up a connector as it looks like it's the plastic bit that disappeared so maybe be able to refit that from a new one? If not i'll maybe see if a phone repair shop will solder the new one on. Or has anybody got a smashed streak lookin for a new home??
