i just purchased a rogers magic due to the 288Mb ram, so that i could smoothly run the hero rom. However i have tmobile and after doing some research it seems that i wont be able to use 3g because of the frequencies.
So can anyone comfirm if this is true as i need or rather want 3g to work on my rogers which is yet to arrive..
Rogers Magic supports.
GSM/GPRS/EDGE Bands: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
HSPA/UMTS Dual-Band: 850/1900 MHz
So I don't think so, I believe T-mo only supports 1700.
Clinton
guess i will have to sell it! as i need to have 3g working. But one more thing is is ther any magic phone out there that has the 288mb ram and supports tmobile 3g networks????
T-Mobile USA seems to be the only major carrier that I can find that uses a hybrid 1700/2100 HSPA setup. So, unfortunately, I highly doubt you will find one. Only way I can see it happening is disassembling two units and swapping radios.

not quite sure how to search this so i guess ill ask (or reask) the question.
1. am i able to reflash my Leo to work with USA ATT 3g bands if a rom ever comes out in the future?
2. can someone confirm to me if step #49 of this tips and tricks thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=583638) and that piece of 3G activation software works and can allow my Leo to work with ATT 3g? (i dont think it does)
thanks!
1. Nope. It's all hardware.
2. See above. Nope.
It's all edge, my friend!

The HTC HD2 will not use 3g in the US. But since the phone is so fast, browsing the internet using edge is faster then with 3G on a sony X1a (my last phone).
do you already have an HD2? Regardless of anything you've read thus far, 3G is hardware dependent. No USA 3G internal radio? No USA 3G.
If you don't already have one, just wait until next month because the HD2 is supposedly coming to Telstra (who operates on 850mhz 3G, just like AT&T). HTC have said that the HD2 is coming in Q1 2010 but it's more than likely going toward T-Mo (based on leaked pics) or other carriers other than AT&T.
ah well i was under the impression that the hardware was both same for euro and us releases and just the software controlling it was different...(and how come they didnt name it the T8582 vs the T8585 as with the HD1 standard for the 2 different radios?....how they gonna distinguish the different hardware HD2s?)
come next year i may just sell mine for the new one (testra one you said). i dont suppose that tmo one will work with att 3g as its on a worldwide 3g band huh.
truly is a nice phone no doubt still
T-Mo US operates on 1700mhz AND 2100mhz for 3G (someone correct me if im wrong...one for uplink and the other for downlink). ATT can operate on 850mhz OR 1900mhz. The European version only has 900mhz and 2100mhz. As you can see, if you use the HD2 in the US (t-mo or ATT) right now, you're restricted to only EDGE unless they both possess their respective 3G bands.
this is what someone on htcforums.com said to me...confirm? deny? reject? love? i guess im just receiving conflicting info as to why this guy would believe this then?
"What you are asking about is a software differentiation. According to PDADB.net, the HD2 US version is scheduled for March 2010. http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=2 ... us_htc_leo
The GSM version currently available is capable of T-Mobile US 3G frequencies; as T-Mo is the only US company to use WorldWide frequencies {2100MHz}. The version that is scheduled for March will be for AT&T frequencies. Since the hardware on these two versions are identical, you could flash a WorldWide version with a US version radio, & use a WW version with AT&T."
Your link doesnt work. I don't want to beat on a dead horse, but countless of T-Mo USA users have the HD2 and they could only have access to EDGE. Like I said, for T-Mo USA, their 3G has a split frequency (one for upload the other for download) that's why you need both 1700mhz and 2100mhz.
thats the link

bah oh well. the dude seems adamant that it will work...
ah here we go, this was the comparison i was looking for

other
http://pdadb.net/index.php?m=specs&id=1783&view=1&c=htc_hd2_t8585_htc_leo_100
this on HTC's site
Europe: Network Bands
* HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
* GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz <------
Asia Pacific:
* HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
* GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz <------
which means it can work here no? since USA att 3G is 850 or 1900?
* HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz <--3G
* GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz <-- EDGE
Your problem is that you're looking at the voice/2G/EDGE bands. The HD2 is a quadband phone, so you can pretty much use it anywhere in the world. Your original question was regarding 3G, which the HD2 does not support here in the USA (yet).
3G would be this line HSPA/WCDMA. See how it's only support 900/2100mhz?

GSM is voice and EDGE (data)
For ATT the key is 850mhz 3G as that what ATT has been adding, I don't believe they are doing any new 1900 towers. You can bing it there are lot's of articles about the iPhone congestion and changing/adding 850 towers. If we are lucky Telstra an, Australian carrier, will pick up the phone soon because they use the same 850 just like ATT. This is how people got the 3G on the HD(1) to work on ATT in the united states. HTCPedia posted a Telstra HD2 rom on Dec 9th, so hopefully they are close to releasing.
Hello, I bought my unlock code on ebay for my AT&T Pure, great deal for under $4.00. I am using it with T-mobile U.S.A. but I don't seem to get 3G. Is that normal? (or is it like the G1 issue that doesn't get 3G on AT&T?)
Besides that, Is the T-mobile's HTC TouchPro2 rom compatible with the Pure? If so, how can I CID unlock my pure in order to accept the rom?
Thanks

You may want to try some different radios for your 3G issue.
As far as your ROM, a TP2 ROM would not work on a TD2, If you want to flash a TD2 ROM, I suggest reading the flashing guide on the Wiki for instructions on Hard SPL.
I see, but a touchpro2 rom won't work because I have to hard spl first? or because it is just no compatible? and also, where can I get a working radio for my 3g?
You will never get T-Mobile 3G on a Pure. It lacks the radio spectrum. AT&T and TMobile use different 3G frequency bands.
You cannot use a rom built from another device. A Rhodium rom won't flash on your Topaz rom.
You have an AT&T Specific device built for use on AT&T's network. You can flash other compatible RADIOS if you unlock it (which won't magically give you Tmobile 3G), but you'll brick your phone if you flash the wrong rom on it.
Maybe you can sell the Pure on ebay or craiglist and buy a Tmobile Rhodium.
"You can flash other compatible RADIOS if you unlock it (which won't magically give you Tmobile 3G), but you'll brick your phone if you flash the wrong rom on it."
so when you say that... is there a possibility that I can flash a compatible radio that wont brick my phone and get 3G?
No radio flash will solve your problem. TMO 3G compatibility is a hardware issue, not software problem you can solve.
There are plenty of TD2 ROMs here, so you should have enough selection. Make sure you do HSPL first before try any ROM.
T mobile uses 3g 1700
t mobile uses 3g 1700 frequency and at&t uses 3g 850 or 3g 1900
htc pure only supports 3g 850 and 3g 1900
I am trying to understand what the difference is between the frequencies that are used for 3G data for AT&T vs carriers like TMobile and Cincinnati Bell Wireless (CBW) and the specs I see on GSMArena such as "3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100".
Phone from Cincinnati Bell and TMobile are compatible on both networks as far as 3G data is concerned but neither apparently work with AT&T (and visa-versa).
If AT&T uses 850 or 1900 then that fits with the specs I reference above. If T Mobile uses 1700/2100 and requires both bands to work then I get why the above specs don't work as 1700 is missing. I think Cincinnati Bell is also 1700/2100 and assuming it required both I would understand.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S (aka vibrant) from CBW that is listed on GSMArena as "3G Network HSDPA 900 / 1900 / 2100" and for which operates on CBWs network as 3G. CBWs website advertises the phone as running 900/2100 which fits the specs as well.
I tried using an AT&T phone with specs "3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100" which I see as a "super set" of the Samsungs but can not get 3G. Is it possible that AT&T does something to lock out the 900 and 2100 since it does not use them and that somehow they can be turned on so the phone will work with another network?
curious to know if any of you guys have your my touch slide on ATT network?
Thanks.
No one has this on AT&T yet?
It just barely released on on T-Mobile. A lot of people aren't willing to pay $430 for a phone if they can't get 3G on it, and the rest are stuck in a T-Mobile contract.
ooh, so they can't get 3g if it's on the ATT network? 430? I've seen tons of them go for 380's, some unlocked as well.
Well, if it doesn't get 3g, I guess it helped me make my mind up to go with the Nexus One.
Thanks
my tmobile - my touch slide unlocked
Got my tmobile - my touch slide unlocked - but it wont get 3G on ATT - is there any way around this issue? is it a matter of the frequencies or what? perhaps someone can explain...
tmobile and at&t are on two different 3g frequencies. A quick google finds this information.
according to info i found on the net:
"In the U.S., T-Mobile and AT&T both use GSM technologies, but there are fundamental incompatibilities in their 3G services. AT&T runs its 2G and 3G services at 850 and 1900 MHz. T-Mobile's 3G service uses 2100 MHz to transmit and 1700 MHz to receive. "
Yet the htc my touch slide supports the following:
Frequency Bands GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
UMTS: 2100
so should work unless article is incorrect -- can someone post the att and tmobile frequencies?

Just with the G1 and mytouch, these phones are specified to use certain bands for 3G and certain bands for edge/2G. This is a Hardware thing. It can support GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900 UMTS: 2100, (and 1700 I assume should be in there since tmobile uses 1700 for 3G) But the hardware is built to use ONLY 1700-2100 for 3g.

Could you let us know where you got it unlocked and for how much? There are two phone companies in Canada - Mobilicity and WIND Mobile - who have the same 3G frequencies as T-Mo but no Android phones! And we would love to know where to unlock the MT3G Slide. Thanks!

I have seen plenty that are unlocked and for sale on eBay for roughly 380ish
Can anyone confirm that a particular web site's unlock code worked for the MT3G Slide?
why would you unlock it to use it on a inferior network? especially because 3g will not work EVER! the phones frequencies do not support att 3g

I can't speak for the AT&T poster's intentions, but *Canadians* would unlock it to use the phone on WIND Mobile, Mobilicity and soon Vidéotron, which are all AWS carriers. This is why I'm trying to find out where to unlock the phone successfully.
Ebay it man, they're going unlocked there for about the same as new/no contract at tmobile

Well I figure I'd rather personally know where it came from and unlock it myself. =)
I got my mytouch slide unlocked by blowfish. Email him at [email protected] it cost me $10.50 to get my phone unlocked.

I'm using the slide on a regional carrier that uses the same 3g frequencies as t-mobile. Just because the other major US players don't use the same ones doesn't mean no one else does.
I used cellunlock.net, with 50% off coupon (easy to google, there are lots of them), it was only $10, got the code in 2 hours both times.
I'll be moving back stateside this August and I'd love to use my sim free Legend on a gsm provider back home.
T-mobile US 3G bands are (900/AWS/2100 MHz)
The Legend is specified for use at: HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
Can anyone clarify if I'll be able to get 3G on a T-mobile US sim?
Or even knowing the bands are similar does the fact that T-mobile uses AWS and not HSPA/WCDMA mean I wont get 3g?
Any type of clarification would be helpful

Hey man, you might have figured this out already but, as far as I can tell, you can't use the T-mobile US 3G bands on the legend. I got my legend over the interwebs and put my t-mobile SIM in there, and although there's 2g data, no 3G. I don't really mind though, it's an awesome phone and it gets plenty of second glances since there's nothing like it here in the states. I'm also around wi-fi most of the time i need it, but it would be awesome to get that 3G working.
I've looked around a little but can't find anything. Does anyone know if this is even physically possible? And if so, how? Thanks.
If you guys are interested in getting the full features of the Euro i9000 but with the America 3G band on 850/1900/2100
instead of running the crippled version of Captivate/Fascinate/Vibrant

Feel free to contact me or simply reply to this topic
We're also currently running a Software Unlock Bounty for this i9000m phone
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747235
yes it's currently locked, but it works with the Sim unlock cards, however we'd rather have a software unlock, so we're inviting all the developers/hackers interested in joining.
Cheers!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think T-Mobile 3G works on the 1700Mhz band, which I do not see list on the Vibrant GT-I9000M page:
Compatible Cellphone Carrier
AT&T, Fido, Rogers, most North American cell providers
Quad Band Voice GSM:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Quad Band Data GSM/GPRS/EDGE/2G:
850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Tri Band Data 3G/HSDPA:
850/1900/2100 MHz
Soo...can you confirm this phone is compatible with T-Mobile 3G/HSDPA ?
you'r right, the is no 1700 band

1700 is related to AWS. Tmobile (US) and Wind (Canada) use it.
Also note the T-mobile Vibrant has 4 keys (Menu/Home/Back/Quick Search) versus the international version which has 3 keys (Menu/Home/Back). Not sure what effect this could have on rooting.
The T-mobile version also lacks front camera and FM radio.
I would absolutely go for this if the i9000 supported 1700Mhz for T-Mo...
I'd like the i9000 features on the captivate
this was mainly for people on AT&T wanting the full hardware features on the i9000 but using the NAM cell band for 3G 850/1900/2100
