ps. i removed the plastic part above the camera because it was scratched.
hope this is usefull to you.

my pics and video are stored in the storage card. i get 12 fps and my wizard is overclocked at 260 mhz. i also have a htc prophet overclocked at 286 mhz and still 12 fps. now i changed to save it in the phone memory and still 12 fps ( htc prophet) but if i change the quality , it goes to 15-16 fps at 25% quality ( video is saved on the storage card)
i you want more fps you need more mhz or maybe a better application, if you find smth pls let me know.

Did anyone try to record MPEG-4 video with XDA II on your SD memory card?
I've tried Toshiba 256MB/128MB and Sandisk 128MB SD memory, and the frame skip rate is quite high. The video seems like being recorded at only 2~5 FPS. If you record the video for more than 2 mintues, you will find that the voice doesn't sync with the motion.
The maximum data transfer rate of Toshiba 256 SD memory is about 2MB/s. Thus I think this problem isn't due to the "relatively" slow transfer rate of my SD card(compared to the "fast" sd card of transfer rate up to 10MB/s).
Is there anyone who has the experience of recording MPEG-4 video on the SD card and suffers the same problem with me?
2 Questions and I will test this for you:
1. How do you record directly to the storage card?
2. How do you get sound with your movie?
Thanks,

Hi,
To record a video directly to a storage card, in Camera mode, click the settings icon (the first from left to right icons at the buttom), then select Tools > Options... > Video. In there, at the buttom of the page, you'll see Folder and Change..., click it to choose the destination folder on Storage Card, and then click ok to save the settings.
To enable sound, above the Folder, there's a checkbox to chose "Recording with audio." Check this box to include sound in your video recording.
HTH.
Guh, I'm an idiot, only saw the options icons on the lower right.
Thanks so much for the reply, I appreciate it.
As far as the voice recording, anyone know if the system volume (device, not phone) has to be turned on? Will it work if it's on mute (or vibrate)? If not, does it make a difference if it's on the lowest volume notch vs. the highest?
I would run some tests myself, but I can't right now (XDA II isn't accessible atm).
Thanks for the reply.

And no problem here too, will find some time to test recording long video on SD.
Cheers.
I just got my 512MB Panasonic SD memory card(10MB/sec) tonight, and got it to test with the XDA II video recording function.
I found that the difference really existed when I recorded MPEG-4 video with a 2MB/s SD memory card compared to a 10MB/s SD memory card.
The video recording process is much smoother if you use the 10MB/s SD card to record the video, but once the video is recorded, there is no difference whether you are playing the video file on a 2MB/s SD card or on a 10MB/s SD card.
The conclusion is: the recording process is the key. You should get a faster card when recording a MPEG-4 video file.

re
omg I have only just realised this thanks to this thread. I have been recording vid on my xda 2 stored on my SD card, and the framerate and sound quality has been poor, but never had video on a PDA before so didn't really think too much of it.
Just completed some tests recording to the My Documents/pictures file which was the default location I think and video is superb in comparison, DOH.
In future all my vids will be recorded in phone memory, I'll just have to move them to storage card afterwards to avoid space problems.
N1, I offer no help or suugestions just confirmation of your own findings,
Cheers, Shire
Here's what I have:
Dopod 900, with ROM Xda_Exec_Upgrade_v1.30.162.
Transcend 2GB SD (150x)
TCPMP 0.71 using RAW FrameBuffer. Not using any other TCPMP plug-ins.
Everything else left at default.
Video performance is really bad. Even in benchmark mode, I only get about 110%-120%. And at time, the frames are a bit flaky...
I had an HX4700 previously. I know the graphics performance of the Universal can't really compare to the HX4700, but I do expect it to be somewhat between than what it is now.
Is there anything I can do to improve the video performance?
No one can help out?
Am I the only one having issue with it?
Something that I missed?
Or is there no solution to gain better DivX playback performance/quality?
Do not use the raw framebuffer. Use the xscale option instead.
Thanks. Now using XScale driver and the vertical thingy option...
Much better now...but the video still has a really tiny jerk every now and then (5 seconds or so...).
Now I know the video performance isn't as good/fast as the hx4700, but can't I at least get a smooth video going on this Universal?
Glad to be of help. Try installing tcpmp on your storage card, this seems to help some people with a htc uni...
Thanks. Already storing the program on the SD card...
Is everyone happy with TCPMP on the Universal?
Am I the only one having these small issues?
Try installing version 0.66 instead.
On my Exec my benchmarks went up to between 140% and 180% just by doing that.
Also use a different setting to 'fit to screen' as that will slow playback down.
What is resolution of the video you are trying to play? Scaling the video is actually very processor intensive. If you are encoding yourself you should go for 640x something and not stretch the video, or if its 576x something else just leave it unscaled also.
Surur
Well, I'm already playing the videos at zoom 100%, speed 100%, XScale driver with that vertical thing "checked", using version 0.66, installed to SD card.
Video is one of smallville's episode downloaded off the net.
Width 624px
Height 352px
Duration 43min40secs
BitRate(audio) 189kbps
Audio format MPEG Layer-3
Framerate 23 framers/sec
Data rate (video) 135kbps
Video sample size 12 bit
Video compression XVID
Device has been hard reset and clean installation of TCPMP.
BT off, Wifi off, GSM/3G/GRPS...all off.
Hardware: Dopod 900
ROM: Dopod 900 English, latest...
Give me the URL and I'll do some benchmarking myself
Surur
It's the Season 5 Finale... Episode number 22.
I'm not sure if I can/[allow to] post torrent links here.
I get minor glitches on most videos files - these are also tv shows, films etc downloaded from torrents.
I'm using version 0.72RC1 - are you saying downgrading to 0.66 will improve performance?
Only minor...VERY minor improvement.
I encode my own video's recorded off TV @640 X 480 using pocket Divx encoder, these run almost perfectly after a fresh boot !! I only get the odd dropped frame, right now I'm sitting by the pool @ the marriott ( using my uni ) but when I get home I will try an upload a 100 MB clip and you can tell me what results you get, if it runs well then it comes down to how your video was encoded and you should try re-encoding it with pocket divx
BTW for an instant 10% boost both to your benchmark and normal playing ability you can try using Pocket Hack Master, I can reliably take my UNI to 624 MHZ and it makes a noticeable diffrence both to the performance (good) and the battery life (bad) you should also consider that the speed of your SD card may be a liiting factor !!! but I doubt it
OK as promised, a small collection of files you can use to benchmark with that I encoded @ 640 by 480 using pocket DivX the quality is stunning, I can play these with no probs
Only 50MB not 100MB and only available for 7 days

I am using TCPMP 0.71 on a Orange SPV M5000. I am trying to play a WMV downloaded from the UBISOFT Rayman Raving Rabbids page. (Bunnies Can't Play Soccer) Despite fiddling with numerous settings I can't get any decent performance at all.
Is this just because the Universal can't play a 640*480 WMV happily?
You sample videos play back perfectly happily - the boxing clip benchmarked at 130%. The Rayman WMV benchmarks at 65%
Any ideas?
Thanks
Christopher
diffrent types of Video encoding require differing amounts of CPU power to play back !!! try re-encoding your rayman clip with pocket DivX encoder
Vid quality 100 (out of 199) and audio quality 9, dont forget to choose an E800 as your device (it is VGA)
Thanks for that. I have tried that, and it does play better, but the video quality is severely degraded.
I have tried upping the quality to 199 and also experimented with other "Advanced" options but it still looks much worse than the original.
Would you expect the video image quality to degrade?
NO! especially at 199 the quality is so high that the Uni struggles to play it ( it requires 2.5 Mbits per sec but the uni maxes out at around 2.2 ~2.3 ) the quality however is stunning truly better than any HD tv on the market (comparing pixels per inch squared ) I will be unable to show you an example for around a week as I'm currently off on my hols
Hi ! Is there a way to record video at 320x240 with the Prophet ? (my unit is the S200). Possibly by using software or something ? (normally the max resolution for video recording on the S200 is 176x144, which is kind of strange considering that S100 and other HTC/Qtek even older models are capable of recording at 320x240 resolution)
Many thanks.
anybody ?
Coolcamera can switch resolution up to 640x480.
Unfortunately the framerate drops to 10fps @320 and 4fps @640 what is not so great.
I am wondering also why other devices are so much better with video..maybe therer is a different solution out there using also the Intel graphicsprozessor onboard.
If anybody has a better solution i am interested in it also.
there was a bug once
before i upgraded ROM it showed 320x240 video resolution option but did record in the small (140x80 or sth). After upgrading I thought they would fix it but instead they just removed the option!!
are new's about de SW to use a 320x240 video resolution ??
use CoolCamera, you can use 320x240 but the framerate will probably be low. I found that framerate depends especially on SD card speed. So the SD card is the bottleneck. If you use hi-speed SD card framerate should be accetable. Good ligting is also very important
Because i'm using CM7 and it's recording quality is very ****ty, now looking at the source i found one file in system/etc/media_profiles.xml
here you can set YOUR values of quality! I've attached file with in my opinion very optimal configuration of good quality video/audio recording settings.
If you want to also change low quality settings - you're welcome.
So just overwrite old file with new one You can use my settings or change to yours.
This also reduces your file size to half of 3gp (current profile) size! Cool.
NOTE: MIUI users also maybe oxygen already have mp4 recording config.
PS: unzip file
Just tried, didn't see any big diference except the output to m4v.
Is there a way to change the fps from 7-8 ( mine at least) to something like 25 ??
EDIT: But is has much better sound quality (5Kbps @3gp vs [email protected])

Cause video quality is most depending on sensor and lenses, then bitrate...because this phone has cheapest sensor and no lenses so the quality can not be improved very major.. but the main purpose of this is to allow people to change parameters, i don't need 6Mb/s bitrate, it's stupid, 3mb/s is the best. Also i dropped frames to 23/s and do not use full hd.
And audio is superb 96kbs and 32 Khz, you can change this to even 320Kbs and 96Khz but there is no need
try to increase the photo encoding atleast by 10%
default
<ImageEncoding quality="90" />
<ImageEncoding quality="80" />
<ImageEncoding quality="70" />
improved
<ImageEncoding quality="100" />
<ImageEncoding quality="90" />
<ImageEncoding quality="80" />
it'l improve quality
well done can u upload a movie recorded with that to people see the diference?

all included recorders in rom supports this.
The quality will not be better because sensor is ****, what i meant by saying quality -is that you can adjust it by your needs. I don't use 720x1280 resolution i don't need it, it's stupid because phone do not support it anyway, i use 720x480. Cause then it will record better fps and less size. Also you can adjust audio to be near perfect. That's what i mean by quality. You cant make **** to be and pie just because you put some sugar on it

It's some points that the video freezes and i assume its cause of the sync it was doing at that time.

the problem is in video encoding - it's encoding video in VARIABLE bframerate, so it means some seconds it could be 30fps and at some points onli 1fps so at place where it's only 1fps - you see one frame 1 second and it looks like it frozen. To avoid that i use lower resolution [720x480], lower bitrate [3200], and lower framerate [23] and phone handles it good min fps i get is 11.
your file info is:
Minimum frame rate : 0.628 fps
Maximum frame rate : 30.191 fps

so not even 1 frame per socond..so it causes 1.5 second delay. And your sound is ****. 8Khz is way too low. Use 32 000
So, how do i change the sound quality ??
I don't think there is a way to record to stable framerate instead of variable, right ?

My given/attached XML already with good [better than yours] sound.
2. don't know i don't see option in XML to change to constant framerate [i changed in xml min framerate from 1 to 23 - but this doesn't helped], i think it's somewhere in codec source but i do not have time so don't know 100% where exacly.
Is there a way to change the path that the video are saved. i have a slow memory card which causes freeze in videos so i want them to be saved directly somewhere at HWUserData. Is there a way to do that (not by removing sd)?
I think no with default cammera app. You can use lg camera that have an option for this though.
Also you can try an app as SD Booster which incaze cache size and lead to faster read speed

your card is good. Videos are in 6 mbps [which is btw way to hi, change to 3200] so this is like 0.75MB/s so if your card can write at 1MB/s your card is not making difference. Freezes is because of variable framerate. Also i don't think that it's writing directly to card, there should be some buffer first then only writes to card..so problem is somewhere else i think.

you can always set a lower video recording quality to get a smaller size.
another way, you can expand the phone's storage using a USB OTG cable, but I'm not sure how to have the default camera app saving to the external storage, or you can try 3rd party camera apps.
