Looks useful. Very quick to load and easy to use. Though I love PocketCM, it sometimes gets frustrating trying to select a contact.
Is the attached cab file a demo?

The cab on - is fully functional, but time-limited.
The cab I posted is straight from the above website.
I really like this software, but I cannot find anywhere on your site to buy a license.

Though I was expecting it to be about $10 when released, if you actually use it, and compare it to what's around, you'll find it's worth every penny/pence/shilling/etc of the amount now being charged.
And I don't even use the GPS function. The "contact search and use" function kicks all others out there arses IMO. And then factor in its speed and very small memory footprint, and you have what some consider the best custom WM app of the year.
Is the cab a trial so we can test it 1st and for how many days? Thanks.

Because the author has turned greedy and is using this post as free advertising instead of paying for a spot on xda-developers like all the other ADVERTISERS of commercial software do.
Your website does not display option 5 (Purchase) in FireFox which is why I couldn't find it.
$14.99 for this app? ahahaahaa
VGA ??
Quite expensive for an app without VGA-Support
Compare it e.g. with the VITO-App (link below, $9.95) or PocketCM (free)
Cheers

For Jahnotto - it is all about making profit !!
Well, her is the cab file for version 1.00 beta 2 - from the time when it was a non-profit projekt, and it deserved its place on "Development and Hacking".
After beta 2, came the beta 3 - that supposedly also was just an improvement in the GPS area. But after installing it, a new change have been added - because suddenly a new menu appears with "Manage license".
So one take advantage of all the alpha, and beta testers - for the sole purpose of profit.
My comment:
At first, this started out as a hobby project. I intended to make a better contact app for myself and posted about it here on xda-developers. It turned out that lots of people loved it, and thus I spent far more time than expected on doing development.
As I spent more and more time, I decided to charge a modest sum for it. You can hardly get a meal for $14.99. That way, I can defend spending even more time on making it even better.
If you don't like it, don't use it. If it's too expensive for you, don't buy it. But please respect my time, my efforts and don't spread beta versions with bugs in it. You're just making problems for those who are using it. It's a reason why there were two more betas after beta 2.
Beta 2 works great.
Just a thought... is it possible that we (XDA) could get a member of the OHA such as HTC (knowing they have a wiki already and are majorly banking on Android) or another vendor to "open a space" on their official wiki for us to host our ROM's? Something that has a clause in the membership stating that we agree that they have the right to incorporate anything that they want out of the developed ROM's into their own build and we get access to legally redistribute the Google apps as we are "members" of the vendor's development/testing team. Knowing the spirit of this community and the truly open attitude it supports I am sure this would be something that you all would be happy to agree with. This would protect the developers that have spent so much time making Android amazing and give the vendor an amazing "think tank" in action. This would basically give them hundreds or thousands of developers at no cost all innovating for themselves but contributing to the success.
**If you are a vendor reading...Just think of the great publicity your company would get for this small investment in the Android community**
This should allow us to continue to use XDA for most of our needs but give us a "safe place" to continue innovation.
i have a feeling, htc would do the opposite and send out C&D letters to all the hero devs since they are distributing htc's close source apps such as all of its htc widgets and apps and sense ui itself.

Probably so but if we sell the idea of them having so many developers working on the project for free they might just jump.
As stated by some one else (i forgot who) just because we are in the oha doesent mean we have access to the closed source we would have to license it out **if** they allow us

I recall that statement but if we where "honorary members/developers" of/for the vendor then we could fall under the shadow of their ability to develop with/distribute Google's apps for "the vendor's" development testers (us).

With what???
This is a new idea that if gotten into the right inspired hands is another possibility that shouldn't get lost in the context of the other ideas.
XDA does not host any of the roms anyway. Whether normal activities can be conducted here is not really an issue. WinMo users have been doing the same thing here for a long time, and it is far from OS. The developers who choose to post links to their roms that contain questionable content do so at their own risk.
Also if you didn't notice, they already have us as a testing/development team. They can read this forum just like the rest of us. This is probably the reason most of what is done here is overlooked by folks like HTC. Even if we are a rather large user base, compared to the total # of Android users we are still only a few. They probably see it like "oh they got ahold of the Hero image huh? Too late to complain now. Just leave 'em be and let 'em hack at it a bit. Maybe they'll see or fix something we didn't" It's the better way to handle it PR wise.
Regardless of whether they mind what the end user is doing, I doubt HTC would be very willing to jump on board & slap google like that. We should probably leave that subject alone, and be glad they aren't complaining too.
Not that this isn't a good idea. I even suggested forming a group to join the OHA so we could attempt to license the apps, and be more in the loop. Just don't think HTC will go for it.

I have considered all of the facts you have listed which are valid points but if HTC wouldn't do it which I only used as an example some other vendor might do it. I just think that HTC is the preferred vendor as most of us use their equipment. This wouldn't be a slap to Google, it would be a way to endorse us as part of their development team.
By the way the OHA membership is a great idea. I think both options should be explored.

Any idea which Senior Members had connections inside HTC?
I work for a carrier and the HTC rep I deal with isn't the best to go to with something like this.

Never mind I guess. Looks like I got moved to the forum you saw fit.
Honestly, it shouldn't even be posted .
Not to be rude, but something like this would probably never work. Who all are licensing the software from Google? HTC, Samsung, maybe one or two more? These are all gigantic corporations who would laugh at it, imho.
We would have a better chance of contacting Google and asking how much they want for a license, then starting a donation drive.
Yeah I guess I could see someone stepping up to support this. All they would have to do is give permission to mod their roms. They could then look like the good guys who give their users a choice. I could see it now "Don't like our stock build of Android? Try one of these, or make your own." Now that would be the move to make for one of these companies who claim their phones are all about being "user customizable"

I don't disagree that we should gun for a license but like I said previously I work for a carrier and I believe they would go for something like this but I figure that a vendor would be a more likely target.

It'd require more effort from the vendor. They would have to be the ones distributing the ROMs to users, not us.

I doubt the carriers would have the license to distribute the software. Since it's essentially the vendor who installs the proprietary apps on them, I don't see the point to carriers having it.
And all of this is ignoring the fact that we don't even know the terms of the contract/license. It could very well be against the terms of either to do something like this.
A lot of carriers, and manufacturers have someone doing PR on most of the major social networks. Maybe you should try shooting some of them a line and see where it leads. Might at least get the message to someone who can get something like this worked out.

Nice! It's a much 'cleaner' interface than androlib.com, even if it doesn't have quite as many features. I see they're supporting the Palm catalog now as well. Very cool, as my girlfriend has a Pre Anyone know why they were down for so long? Hopefully Saurik will be able to add more features in the near future.

Please send me an e-mail (do not just reply to this forum post: e-mail will be much more useful for me) with a list of features you think are important. The three things on the public todo list (which should be done pretty soon) are: 1) fix the display of permissions, which is simply stupidly broken; 2) get "newest/latest stuff" working again; 3) rewrite the RSS feed mechanism to work with the new site architecture (which requires #2 to be finished first); and 4) allow comments to be browsed in a more meaningful fashion than "show a bunch of comments for this app". There are other features that will likely happen, but those are the only ones I'm saying /are/ to users ;P.

My e-mail address is on every website I run, including Cyrket's home page.
I go to great lengths to make the URLs on Cyrket readable:
/p/android/net.tastybits.heat/icon
However, this anal attitude towards URLs means that I will not make a URL that I can't support going forward. The category tree is simply not stable at this time, nor do I really want it to be considered "stable". However, the category ID numbers in the search URL actually are stable: those nodes I can rearrange and then guarantee I can support old URLs.
(Out of curiosity: why are you even caring about those URLs? The only URLs I'd expect would matter to anyone would be the URLs for the packages themselves, metadata about the packages, and the URL for "newest stuff", which still hasn't been rewritten into the website yet.)
/Please/, however, send me any and all feature requests via e-mail: it would be difficult to make my e-mail address any more public than it is, and I get hundreds of e-mails a day from users, so I'm surprised you couldn't find it. My address is [email protected] (I had to put the (at) because the forum got mad at me).
Well first off, my apologies if what I said came across as 'anal'. After re-reading what I wrote, I can't find where you get that?!
Second, I admit I did not visit your site to look for your email address. I did view your profile here on XDA, but none was available. So. Sorry for that.
Why do I care about pretty URLs?
I talk to alot of people about Android - DumbPhone friends, Android friends, and iPhone friends.
I have tested & reviewed many apps, and share this information with these friends.
In my talks with them, I often tell them about Cyrket, which I prefer over other sites like androidtapp.com or androlib.com due to their complexity (no disrespect meant to either operator of those respective sites).
In my opinion, I just prefer Cyrket with its simpler layout, basic information, and ease of navigation.
The other sites I find 'too much going on'.
Having a pretty URL makes for easier memorizing of a URL. It's also easier to write down later. All this is just easier, faster, better to share with someone else.
As the 'web master' or 'developer' of Cyrket.com, I would have thought you knew all this. Even if it doesn't change, I'm just saying it's a better user experience for visitors to have Pretty URLs throughout the entire site for uniformity.
On a personal note: I just tend to prefer my reference sites which are easy on the eyes with minimal distraction! Just as SpyderMS said in post#2.

I was saying that /I/ was "anal". I seriously spend hours fretting over the URL structure of Cyrket, which is why 99% of the website has such a beautiful URL structure. I dare you to find someone who spends as much time thinking about URLs as I do: that's why I used "anal" to describe myself.
*Sigh*... now that that got misinterpreted, though, the rest of your comment has gone down the "let's be hostile" avenue.

Most of these other sites also have much worse URLs. AppTapp doesn't only because they create vanity URLs for every package they choose to make a review of (which is not practical, nor is it maintainable).

What I asked was why you needed fast by-memory URL access to a subcategory sort. You managed to find the /one/ thing in Cyrket that currently has a bad URL, and made it an issue about the entire website.
I then explained the reason that one thing has a bad URL and asked you why you felt that specific page had such high-priority for having a better URL, and now you are acting like I don't consider good URLs important.
Frowny pants.
Oh, and OMG I HATE THIS FORUM, I am not even allowed to post URLs to it: please, for the love of all that is holy, send me e-mails in the future if you wish to continue this discussion.

Goto http://www.sitego.fr/lesscro/skins.html and download the theme from there for free. Unless im missing something.

unfortunately Mskip, the file from his website contains the following..
a url file that is called.
become supporter to enjoy with this skin.url
another to his forum
and a PNG file..
I think demanding money for something before delivering without offering a free version is against the rules of XDA isn't it?
Don't worry about the theme for a few more releases. I get the horrid WAD2 pink screen bug within 15 minutes of using it, and it requires a restart. Several other people are having the same issue. Have tried multiple ROMs with both WM 6.5, and 6.5.X, also moved from storage card install to device memory trying to pinpoint the problem, but it doesn't go away. It's not worth it at this point.

Ahh ok I did a bit of research 'after' posting my original post. No wonder his main thread on xda was taken down lol.
Yes it is a bit naughty asking for money before a finished product has been released (reminds me of a few other people on here). Shame because his work so far does look very promising but thats not the right way to go about it.
Im starting work on a WP7 theme for spb Mobile Shell 3.5.3 and it does lend itself very well to the panaramix scrolling and supports the hubs but is very restricted in certain parts.

Re-bump. Why can't anyone send it to me? Will it be considered WAREZ if I am asking for this via e-mail? LOL!
He's personally asking people not to re-distribute the files. Although I disagree with the donation for download approach, I still respect his request.
I don't know about France, but in the US this is blatantly Illegal, the moment any donation comes from the expectation of consideration it's considered a legally binding sales contract instead of a Donation. And considering the WP7S Theme contains a very close likeliness to the WP7S including being "marketed" under the name Windows Phone 7 Series theme he's reselling copyright material. Copyright law would consider this Piracy in the highest regard, if only Microsoft had the balls of the RIAA to go after people profiting by selling their ideas and concepts.
Hi hi
I was just wondering.. Is it legal to cook fonts like Segoe UI or Droid sans in your public ROMs? Also, is it legal to perhaps cook in an apple startup sound or something similiar? Lastly, how legal is it to cook ROMs? Is it a gray area in any way?
Thanks

Yeah I heard about that, not the Da_G part though.. That's why I'm pretty confused.
Then why does warez get removed instantly?
Also, this site is pretty large (and old), so why have MS only contacted those two people?
Yeah..you are right
This is the TOS point 9.....im confused too now,lol
9. Don't get us in trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things that will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably don't want to do it here either. This does not mean we agree with everything the software piracy lobby try to impose on us, it simply means you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users, and those that write great code.

Thats only the very recent history.
I remember when roms/builds were hosted on the xda ftp.
MS eventualy asked to have them removed from xda servers.
Unless the site gets too close to something new, or there are 3rd party issues forcing them to act, I would imagine MS benefits more from the site as it is.
They get a very active community of beta testers and a loyal community of phone purchasers - a lot of whom are like this because they always want the latest stuff. Hence they will (often) also want the latest phones. Hence it counteracts the problem of them delaying purchases by putting new os's on old phones.
Driving it underground would not stop the activity and only really annoy the users.
It will be interesting to see if they change their policy as WP7 comes in and WM6.5 fades out....
If you are new here, perhaps you may not be aware that the MS forced XDA_Developers to remove all the cooked ROMs from its FTP store. Before that all the cooked ROMs were hosted on the XDA-Developer's FTP store.
Yeah but apart from technically enforcing their rights how did that slow down XDA after a week or two? If they really wanted to hurt XDA they could do much more.
I remember an interview with HTC"s chairman where he was saying that XDA was a necessary "evil". Or something like "we need them and they need us" type of thing
