I had a Universal until recently (too bulky, buggy, and Wizard is so much nicer!) so I now have the Wizard/O2 Xda Mini S.
On the Uni there was an icon on the Today page for changing orientation of the screen with 1-click. On the Wizard there is none, and I have to navigate through several menus in Settings to change it.
Any way to add the Universal's Today icon to the Wizard?
Or failing that, how can I add Start Menu shortcut to the 'Screen' option in Settings?
Check out phm tools keys. They have a screen rotation shortcut.
I think there are registry hacks to show the screen rotation UI icon though (WM2003 at least)

Thanks, would really like that reg hack if anyone can find it?
EDIT: I found this for the Universal but it has no effect on my Wizard:
To change the display of the screen rotation icon in the system tray
The setting is at 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION'
The 'HideOrientationUI' DWORD value can be set to '1' to hide the icon or '0' to show the icon
For example, to hide the screen rotation icon
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ROTATION\HideOrientationUI = 1

CRAP! I opened this thread for the sole purpose of making that exact smart-ass response. You suck.
:? Just to clarify for those of you who don't credit me with a milligram of intellect, I wish to orientate the screen when not using the keyboard. This is a feature of WM5 and the Universal allows you to do it from the home screen, but not the Wizard.
I have however solved it by using Spb PocketPlus

Anyway to do it without installing pocket plus ?
Why not hook it up to one of the hardware buttons ? If you're worried about running out of buttons, you can probably install one of the button managers?
I've got '<Rotate Screen>' (built-in option in Buttons) under the 'voice call' button, and Magic ScreenShot under the same button+hold (normally 'voice memo'); I highly doubt I'll use either of those voice functions, so they fit nicely there
I just added it to mort button, but its still a key press and then a tap of the screen, would much prefer a today icon just to be tapped.
Well, maybe time for a developer to step in and make a tiny application that rotates the screen
http://www.devx.com/wireless/Article/21590/1954?pf=true
and
http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/rotatese.html
have code examples, but no compiles (boo, hiss - why is that?)
ZeBoxx: I've done it, but PHM tools already contains very effective screen rotation icons. Find PHM Keys... assign to hardware key or shortcut or whatever. Use his or my VJTrayLaunch and stick it in the tray as well if you want... oh, mort script does this as well I think.
V
Well, there we go
And for more light-weight (are they, really? I have no idea);
270-degrees (for Wizard):
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15527
90-degrees (exact opposite side :x):
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15011
180-degrees:
http://www.pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=15332
PHM Keys seems to have some other neat things that I might download it for, but personally I'm happy with just having <Rotate Screen> under the 1 button (no special button managers)
off-topic: is the PHM website ever going to be back?
I have pocket plus 3 installed, so i just added 'Rotate screen left' onto the close button context menu.
Now its just a click-hold and click away - even from within a program (comes in handy when using internet explorer).
Only works for exe (shortcut ".lnk" won't work)
Code:
1. HKLM\Software\SonyEricsson\PanelManager\ApplicationName
2. e.g. Change it to "\..\Windows\Pie.exe"
thats just linking to another application. but its not released for windows mobile use.

It works flawlessly with Quickmenu !
So.. I got my Startmenu-Button back !
Btw: I also installed the Blackstone FM Radio Cab so no functionality is gone from my X1. The Mediapanel is nice but.... Who cares...?

What am i doing wrong?
i changed the reg key to: \Windows\CommManager.exe
but it still tells me that there is no panel manager instead of opening the communication manager.

I made this mistake as well, it's because you've missed the most important part.
1. HKLM\Software\SonyEricsson\PanelManager\ApplicationName
2. e.g. Change it to "\..\Windows\Pie.exe"
"\..\"
You must put that at the start. I did my comm manager and has to do:
"\..\Windows\CommManagerLink.exe"
Thanks for finding this to the OP as well, been looking to get this changed for a while!
i installed one of the roms that do not have panel manager installed. this trick doesnt seem to work on the rom
im confused
cansomeone pls explain what u can achieve by changing this buttoins function other than losing acces to the panel function :S or does this simply mean u can save cpu usage
pls reply with some insight
thnx
Uh... but if you assign your panel button to something else.... then how you gonna access the panels still?
This is incase you dont use the panels.
Like me... i have had the original rom, and 2 roms here on this forum (custom)
And with every rom i had the same thing.
Having tf3d and panels will crash my phone (when i use e.g. google panel and then hit the x for panel change, then i often need to remove battery and place it again)
i rather have the tf3d then panels if i have to choose.
so thats why i use the X for a different app.
AE Button Plus
Or you could use 'AE Button Plus' it works for me flawlessly. I can assign the Panel Button to just about anything I choose.
how did you asign something to the AE button?
how do i reassign another button to run panel manager? I tried to execute /Program Files/Panel Manager/PanelManager.exe but that does not bring up the panel manager

In AE Button Plus main screen, select FILE menu and choose ADD BUTTON and the dialog box that pops up is waiting for you to press a hardware button...
Press the X-PANEL button (which will probably launch panel manager if it's installed, no matter close that down) it will then allow you to press in the dialog box 'ADD KEY' and also shows you the Key code...
The key code will be next to the newly created button in the list for you to assign to whateve you like.

Yeah, assign Quickmenu.exe to the panel button and you get a "startmenu" button. Search for Quickmenu 2.7 around the forum....
doesnt work
I followed your directions and can't get the x-panel button to run quickmenu. It still runs the panel manager. There's something else that needs to be done, and I haven't' a clue what that is.
At least I was able to load the cab file that makes panels work on the touch HD. So when I eventually get the x-panel button reassigned, I can still access panels (which I infrequently do as it is). I have yet to see the value of panels. I like running things in the background concurrently, i.e. listening to streaming radio or mp3, txt'ing, using GPS, or exploring on the web. Panel switching seems to halt other tasks.
Kinda works
Finally got quickmenu to work with the x-panel key. Another important tidbit of info is that quickmenu must already be running for the x-button to invoke it. Otherwise it loads panelmanager.
Another bit of info, as soon as you run panel for the first time (in programs, the touch HD cab adds it on install), the behavior reverts back to the x-panel key invoking panelmanager and not quickmenu. I checked, quickmenu is still running. Figure that one out. Very confusing.
i installed panel as a seperate cab, i dont have the panel manager in my programs and i cant seem to invoke it any other way besides pressing the hardware button

Hi
Is it possible to change the defualt Panel following a reset. every time I reboot my X1 I have to reselect the Panel.
Any way of changing it,
Cheers Mark
Yes you can, using xperiatweak 2.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=441439)
xperia tweak doesn't work for me, well it works, but if I hit the panel button it just re-selects the same panel without bringing up the panel selector page...
Hello, In rhodium the lower buttons are "Phone" on the left and "Camera" on the right.
How can I change this buttons to other functions as "programs" or others?
I try with Advanced configuration tools and other utilities but when soft reset all return with original values. My rhodium have Italian rom.
Thanks
Use HD Tweaks works on mine.
Use HD Tweaks with caution.. Some of the tweaks might give issues on TP2.. For one, its a know issue that one or some of the volume tweak would disable sound on your TP2.. There after, you make calls and you can't hear the other side..

Use Touchflo Detacher, you can set the softkeys on the homescreen aswell as in Touchflo 3D to any application or shortcut (ink) you want.
http://www.codeplex.com/TFDetacher
At the moment I have Camera and Windows Messenger
Hard Keys
In case you didn't know already, you can also set the Send key as a shortcut as well. Just go Settings > All Settings > Personal > Buttons

You can remap both soft keys (left and right) the same way: either choose the program from your application list shown in the pull-down window, or choose the application from any location on your device by clicking [...] path search on the right side. This way you can remap both soft keys to ANY program on your device.
with a reg editor you can go for : HKLM->Software->HTC->Manila
Here it is : HomeRSKPath (Write the path of the desired app)
Below is : HomeRSKText (Write the text you want to see in home right soft key).
Hope it can help.
Is there a way to just remove the two soft buttons and have the tf3d icons on the bottom? I am running an auto lock program and the phone button is not needed as I can use the hard button.
Install the attached HTC X-button application. Activate it under settings/system. But nothing happens after this
NOW if u wish to close an application just tap on system clock the application will get closed.
It is is a temp. solution until anyone figure out how to make the X visible.

Yes that's what X button is supposed to do in Windows Mobile. You can install an application like ameba or xtask or wktask ect. to make the X button to close the running app instead of minimising it. The problem in Hd mini was that there wasn't any visible X button. Htc hide it. With the registry changes i gave you, you can unhide the X button and make it (with an app mentioned above) really close the running apps. I think it's better to close an app by pressing the X button than pressing the clock
Thx MAN! This is what i need it..
What we need is the "full" top line from the earlier windows version (HD2) to replace the mini's, all we need is then to add Dutty's task manager
Anyone know how to do that ?
seems the Mini has it's own task manager built in and no top start icon or X as it now has hardware-soft keys...... What genius at Microsoft allows their developers to change things that have always been standard since Day one !
Just like the functionality of Vista/win 7 is downhill from XP,
just tried a taskbar program called "wktask" which works quite well with hdmini. it adds a list of running applications at the top bar with adjustable length to cope with the original icons (viz. time, signal, bluetooth, etc.). tapping a listed application to active it. tap and hold a menu with close option will be shown.
it also add a "x" button but I personally have disabled it because it can lead to accidentally terminating the windows application page.
there are many other options to suit your needs.
I tried "WKTASK" but it covers and blocks the original taskbar, shame as it has some nice features. It's not a resolution thing as it does not work on the higher resolution HD2
Seems for Me all I need is a hack to add the "start" and "X" as the Mini has a more functional taskbar than the earlier builds (task manager, battery info etc)
you can using ameba
