Good day everyone,
I have a vodafone magic which I am trying to get connected to my college wpa enterprise connection. My university provides a configuration file found at http://helpline.concordia.ca/network/wireless/ipod-iphone.shtml which installs on iphones allowing connection to the schools wifi. I wanted to know if the file could be modified to work on android so that I would be able to access the wifi, or maybe there is a app that allows connection to wpa enterprise?
any input would be greatly appreciated.
PHILL
You need to install wifi helper from android market and your magic needs to be rooted.
With that it's fairly easy to set up WPA enterprise by entering all the settings then disabling/reenabling wifi.
Stoo
thanks for the quick response, my magic is rooted and running the ion rom, this is great i will get the app and try this soon.
did this method work for you on the concordia wifi network? I am having trouble connecting!

Hello,
Well I hope I'm putting this post in the right place, if not please move it. I have a 8525 with cingular. I need vpn access for my office connection from my laptop. We use a Fortiwifi 60 with the Forticlient software for VPN access. I used it with the old wireless modem settings on my 8525 and it worked with both wap. and isp. I recently upgraded to the new offical rom and used it fine (without trying the VPN access) for a few weeks. I went on my first trip last week and could not connect to the vpn. It would verify PSK and X-AUTH but fails to pull an ip address. I tried it with a static ip and it failed as well. When I check my connection monitor it shows no data coming back from my vpn gateway. I tried it on the hotel's internet and it works fine. I also tried another wifi signal and it worked as well. I changed the media net settings to go through isp instead of wap but that didn't help. Does anyone else have this problem with there VPN settings? I wonder if it is the new type of connection sharing or a change to the Cingualr network? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I had the same problem with another IPsec client with this ROM. For some reason I could not get Internet Connection sharing to work when connected via USB. Bluetooth pan worked. The VPN client was not binding to the ICS/usb adapter. I have since upgraded to WM6...Sleuths ROM...and USB/ICS now works.
Well I tried the phone on another computer and the vpn works just fine. I guess it's something on that computer. Anyone have any ideas? I'm going to try reinstalling the virtual adapter in hopes that it is a binding issue (thanks to tco for that). I'll let you know if I figure it out.
Hi everyone,
I've tried just about everything I can think of, and no matter what I do, I can't get VPN to work over Wifi (on a P4000, which is the Canadian version of the Mogul/Titan). Does anyone have any experience/success with this?
I've tried searching the forums too, but couldn't locate a post on this topic. I can't be the only one wanting to use VPN over wifi?
Many thanks!
No I have not had any luck either. It also seems that you can not access the VPN using the phone as modem. It will allow you to securely connect, but when you try to link up with your computer, it gives an error message regarding an unidentifiable IP address. Sopmeone help!!!
I found this - http://securenet.niu.edu/vpnpptpwinmo5.shtml
It seems to be a weird workaround, definitely not convenient to connect. But, it doesn't actually connect for me. It starts the connection process, and I then get a username/password error or a "disconnected by the other party". So, it doesn't work.
Has anyone tried a 3rd party VPN client such as Bluefire VPN? http://www.bluefiresecurity.com/products/vpn/
It's quite expensive, though! 70$! We shouldn't have to pay for something that in theory, Windows Mobile already includes.
I didn't know that windows had it's own VPN installed in the OS so I actually have Bluefire installed. I had it on my Palm so it didn't cost my anything to switch the license over to my Titan. It works fine or me using Wi-Fi, EVDO, or 1x.
Telus blocks vpn access unless you have a VPN bundle, which costs 5$ i believe. I had to add it to mine. Other then that, i use openvpn talking to my router, works great

You have to pay to use VPN over Wifi? For cell-data, I'd understand, but I don't see how they can require us to pay to use our own WiFi networks.
I'm able to get the VPN to attempt to connect, however it always reports a username/password error.
I checked out openVPN but couldn't find a link for a Windows Mobile version. Can you post the link?
just type openvpn ppc into google, its the first result. As for vpn over wifi, i red it wrong, i was thinkin evdo
successful VPN over WiFi
You can successfully get on VPN through WiFi. GO to your VPN client click on connection entries drop menu at the top, then click modify, go to transport tab, and click to check the box enable trasport tunneling. Once you do this save it and you should be able to access it. I was successful.

My searches on the web haven't yielded much help or information so I thought I would come to the experts...
I have a Treo 750 that I just "upgraded" to WM6 2 days ago. I noticed that DUN has gone away and was replaced by ICS. After configuring my laptop to use that instead of DUN I connected and was surfing the web. My problem now is VPN. I travel frequently (luckily I'm in the office until Jan.) and regularly used my phone to connect to the corporate network via VPN. I also work with a lot of other companies and have VPN access to their systems as well. Basically now I can open my Cisco VPN client, connect to a VPN gateway, authenticate, get assigned all the appropriate IP information, but cannot communicate on the network. What gives? Is there a solution to this? If not, what the heck was MS thinking when they did this!? My phone is basically useless for one of the major reasons I bought it...
Any help is appreciated!
thanks!
Ok, further searches found that DUN can be added back into WM6 via a cab that was posted here at the XDA forums. I installed it and the DUN service is now visible again. I unpaired by phone and laptop, re-paired, and included DUN. Now when I try to connect, I get the DUN connection box after the bluetooth connection is initiated but when I click DIAL I get the DIALING... prompt, followed by Error 678: The remote computer did not respond.
Anybody get this working on a Treo 750? Thoughts, ideas suggestions?
What is the ip address you are getting via the cisco vpn client
It maybe that it is in the same subnet as the ip address assigned to the pc from the wm6 ics. The ICS gives the address 192.168.0.1. and if your Cisco is also giving a 192.168 address then you will have two routes for the 192 address range thus giving you the problem when accessing hosts.
If this is the problem Im pretty sure you can change the address allocated via the ICS using a registry editor. If not you may be able to get work to use a different range for you on the cisco vpn.
Our corporate network is 172.x.x.x so it's nowhere near the 192.168.0.x assigned by the phone. When I look at the route in the VPN client I see 192.0.0.0, 10.0.0.0, and 172.0.0.0 so I am assuming 192 is my laptop, 10 is the phone, and 172 is the corporate network.
I'm guessing NATing is the problem. I've been reading that if I use a different APN (isp.cingular instead of wap.cingular) there is no NATing. I've tried both, and I've tried turning off and on the "force AT&T" proxy setting to no avail.
Tried the DUN cab hack that is floating around for WM6 also. The service is active again and I can also add Modem Link back in and my laptop sees my Treo as a modem but when I dial I get an error stating the remote computer did not respond. I'm guessing along with going from WM5 to WM6 AT&T also updated the radio so the old communications protocols don't work anymore?
Hello Sir,
I have exactly the same problem... I have successfully connected via VPN, however unable to communicate with any devices on that network... Then what is the use of VPN on the phone? I've tried searching online for answers, but no luck... People are having the same problem but no one knows how to solve it... I'll try and trouble shoot this problem more as soon as my exams are done...
Hi
Working successfully for me. I am using Imate jasjam wm6. Pc using cisco client connecting via ics on phone. I have telstra 3g connection tested ok on both telstra.internet (Nated ip) and telstra.extranet (real ip).
You are correct it may be an nat issue. Can you check that your transparent tunnelling is on as follows: right click on your connection entry in cisco client and select modify then transport tab. Check that enable transport tunneling is enabled ipsec over udp(Nat/pat).
The other thing to check is that the cisco vpn server aslo has transport over Nat on as well.
Also are you sure your corporate ip range is 172 or is that the range given by the cisco vpn to clients.
Transport tunneling is on (always was). I'll have to check with our network admin and check on the VPN server setting...I guess as long as I have connectivity back to the office, I don't need it that badly for all the customers I need to connect to at various times.
Yep, positive on the corporate IP. Right now it is 172.28.1.87 and I'm in the office.
Thanks for the help so far. Got any other suggestions on how I can troubleshoot further?
One other thought...should I modify the registry on the phone to assign a different IP address to my laptop? Would that help?
Same Problem
MX. I am having the exact same issue but with Securemote VPN. I've looked through the registry and found the assigned address, but I'm wary of changing anything until I can find some more information.
Anyone out there ever change the DHCP configuration for their phone?
Somewhat related question?
Im attempting to route my connection on my mobile through a laptop acting as a wan bridge, then uplinking it into the router. The issue Im having is that XP and WM6 both use the same IP Block. Ive read and read and cant find much to tell me how to change the WM6 IP BLock to something like 192.168.2.1 rather than the default 192.168.0.1
Does anyone have any pointers? Ive looked through the registry. There MUST be a simple way to change a default.
To clarify my setup, I am using ICS Via USB into a UMPC laptop running XP. The UMPC is set to share that same connection back out over Ethernet. The ethernet runs into my WAN Uplink on the router and then back out via wifi/rj-45
This setup works as I have done it using Wifi with other networks, and I can chose the "Lan3" to share under the advanced settings on the UMPC. The reason I dont just share out via Wifi from the start is that Wifi on my Kaiser and Raphael both make the device to hot to charge, thusly killing the battery within a couple hrs of sharing. If I share via USB , it stays pretty cool and still charges.
Anyone have any pointers?
I have already tried tricking XP into using the Lan on another block but as soon as you try to share the USB lan, it reverts back to the 192.168.0.1
The only way I can imagine is a registry modification or a program change in ICS.
Thanks Much!
Hi,
I am having problems getting VpyrVPN or any VPN to work on my current setup. I can create the VPN profile from within android and it connects fine. However after the tunnel is established (and I can see this as ppp1 in system info) no traffic appears to route down the tunnel. Everything still defaults to go over the standard 3G routing.
For example if I go to whatismyip.com I retain the IP address of the telecoms provider. This is not the case when testing on a wifi connection as it works fine.
I am running MDJ Desire HD v4.3.
I have tested VPN access via my provider on 3G by tethering my laptop to my HD2 via the Android "Wifi Hotspot" app and it connects fine on the laptop and routes down the VPN as expected.
Is this a known problem with froyo or could this be specific to using PPP rather than RMNET? Or is there a fix?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards,
Ross
After searching and trying out several ways to connect my GT to my school's proxy authenticated wifi network I gave up. Then I thought about my ipod touch, registered my wifi mac address with the IT guys and voila it was so easy to configure proxy just my entering user name and password I I can surf.
Now why on earth did android neglect the proxy wifi I have no idea. Furthermore, the adhoc wifi does not also work OTB and will only work if rooted. Why?
I am beginning to regret purchasing android device.....
Hi, what is the specific problem-is it connecting ok to wireless but not authenticating to your web proxy server? apps like asproxy ( http://alsubang.github.com/ASProxy/index.html) should work, but haven't tried it myself....
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
I have tried asproxy and it did not work. And yes it connects to the usual hotspots like starbucks. I am also rooted so I am able to connect to adhoc from my nokia phone(joiku hotspot).
I also know some friends who have the 10.1 and the asus transformer and they also cannot connect to the schools proxy. A visit to the IT department confirmed that Android is not supported.
A lot of people in our community are already put off getting an android device because of this.
