GPS issues. - Touch CDMA General

Ok so i don't know if this is common or not but i guess ill explain my situation.
Im running Radio 3.42.50 on Verizon Wireless. I am using NFSFAN's 6.5 V11 Rom.
I had previously flashed with the official Verizon 6.1 rom and ran customizations. Locking my GPS. I followed the guide here http://wiki.ppchaven.com/index.php?title=Pocket_PC_WIki:FIX_VERIZON_GPS
Bringing me to the 3.37.78 Radio. Using the GPS Viewer included in NFSFAN's 6.5 rom i was able to see satellites however i could not get any fixes or my location. I got nothing in Google maps.
I then flashed with the Bell 3.09.666.1 rom (i did not run customizations) Bringing my to Radio 3.42.50. Then NFSFAN's 6.5 rom again. This time i was able to get a fix and a location in the GPS viewer however Google Maps still can not get a fix or my location. Perhaps someone can point me to a possible solution for this.
From my observation it seems the GPS viewer connects to the GPS without going through windows while Google Maps does (Google maps shows a huge amount of satellites when set to interface with the GPS on its own and is still unable to find my location.) Perhaps it has something to do with the way GPS is handled in windows.
Yes my location is on and GPS program port is set to com 4, hardware port none and to be managed automatically.
I appreciate any help.

Try using GPS Viewer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1520319
and make sure you're actually receiving proper GPS signals.
GPS works on alltell
I have rom 3.35 and radio 3.37.20 on a alltel phone and installed gpstoday and then google maps. Gps started working just fine. However to get google maps to work properly leave gpstoday turned OFF open google maps and select use gps and it will then work. If i have gps turned on then open googlemaps it will not run .
on my sprint titan i had to use the 2.03 PRI update cab, some people only need to run the PPST.EXE file in the mobile windows directory to do the update after a flash, Get the latest PRL for your carrier here, then do a ##PRL# update (you'll need your MSL code). i went from no sat's to near instant lock of 5 in GPSviewer using the HTC Quickgps update. check your PRI version in SETTINGS/SYSTEM/DEVICE INFORMATION menu. even though i have roaming disabled it seemed to help and worth a try.

Are you running a stock ROM ? If not, did your GPS work on the stock ROM ?
If your GPS has never worked then it may well be a hardware problem. But if it used to work and stopped with a cooked ROM, then there was a version of WM where GPS support was broken.
Google maps also needs internet connection, you have one? Also try with a navigation software like TomTom or Igo, in Igo you have to let the software discover the port used.
i have seen one or twice the gps icon.
futher al apps keep searching for it.
i,m on a stock rom 1.88.404.3 (67102) NLD
i will have a go with Igo.
thx sofar
You could also try:
Chartcross GPStest.
Go sit next to a road so that it is easier to get a signal...
And it might take a few minutes until it got a fix.
And if you have a data connection (like T-Mobile web 'n walk), enable A-GPS in your settings. Good luck
If it helps you, the GPS port is 4 and the speed is 38400, in Igo you cann set it yourself or let the software find it
thx for the advice guys,
but i fried my rom yesterday, i believe that was the problem all along.
so i,m gona seek for a new rom, don,t now cooked or vanila.
i will post here if the gps wil function then.
laterzzz
If you are searching for a new rom try the Phoenix 2 rom from NRGZ.
It is also available in Christmas theme
And it comes with many gps settings and apps.
k k,
i wil have a go with it, downing it now.
i wil report back on howe it went.

touch hd gps

Hi
i have read in a few other posts regarding GPS issues and Sat Nav software not working
now i have seen a few programs that 'kick off' the GPS and then runs the program and i have run these to no avail,
i was wondering if anyone else has not only had this issue but struggled to get it working, google maps seems to pick me up via GPS but tomtom is saying 'no gps device' go into settings within tomtom and set to internal gps device, and check gps status and no cannot see any satellites. i have had the phone outside inthe line of sight of the sky for an hour so me being inpatient isn't the issue, any help would be greatly appreciated
ta
Try this:
http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/GPS/GPS-Test-34335.shtml
Update QuickGPS.
If no satellites show up after a max of 5mins of you standing outside with clear view of the sky, then you either need to flash another radio or the gps is dead.
hi
thanks
have left phone outside running that, seems to be scanning com1-9..pausing for a second on port 3 then continuing. will let you know in 10 mins, what is flashing another radio involve?

ok stupid question time, but if it google maps seems to be working ok would that not suggest that the GPS radio is ok, and secondly if i did flash which one would i go for on that link you sent
i have radio version 1.09.25.14 protocol 52.49a.25.261u
there is a link
Download 1.09.25.14 / 52.49a.25.26W Radio only Megepload
Download HD_Blackstone_Radio 1.09.25.14 (with RUU) 4shared
am i flashing this even though my protocol is different?
and there is about another 10 files below all them called
Blackstone Rilphone.dll Cabs
all confusing can you help any more please
thanks
I don't believe anything google maps says in relation to GPS after it told me one of my non GPS phones had inbuilt gps, and then calculated my position using the mobile phone network.
As for which you need, well it depends on which rom you are running, whether it's a stock rom (bog-standard rom you get on device when you buy it), or a custom cooked rom from someone on the forums. I suggest you read up on it thoroughly then post in the correct radio thread if you want to ask any more questions regarding the right radio version you need.
fair do's
thanks
Did you have google maps open when you started Tomtom? That may have caused an error
hi
thanks for reply, no i open google maps it seems to find my location. close google maps, then open tomtom and is saying no gps device. the 'onboard' gps device is set on tomtom options it's just as if the gps reciever isn't picking up, same in other sat nav progams too, garmin is the same so makes me think is phone not software issue
AFAIK, Google Maps is A-GPS software, while TomTom, iGO and others are full GPS software.
Don't know about TomTom, but iGO DOES NOT work if A-GPS is enabled...
hmmmm. i'll give it a whirl, not got the phone withme at the mo, a mate is attempting to simunock it, agps is enabled so i will disable it see if that helps. tempted to get rid and get an effing iphone at this rate
Let us know how you go....
Don't give up, it;s a great phone
had the same issue with tomtom v7.450. using tomtom v7.916 now and it's running like charm
Just had replacement Touch HD delivered from Orange this morning, flashed to my usual ROM, and get exactly the same symptoms as Pete did.....
Tried:
TomTom
Memory map
HTC GPS Tool
Updating QuickGPS
Updating Radio ROM to latest version
Reflashing different OS roms
nothing makes a difference.
Not really keen to take it apart as i'll break the VOID sticker and probably end up in an argument with Orange, but Id bet any money that the GPS cable has come loose......so frustrating as im working abroad as of next week and i'll really use the GPS a lot......
Also just found out that the replacement handset is "refurb".....I bet the muppet that refurbed it didnt reconnect the GPS cable

GPS Not working?

I have tried villian rom and modaco rom but when i enable gps sattelites in the phone option it says its enabled but gps applications never get a fix and the satellie symbol doesnt ever appear in the task bar. Also I dont know for sure when this started happening because i have not tried using gps for a while, but would flashing the hacked spl cause it? are there any fixes?
I have tried Villian 5.2 and aHero 0.7, with Radio 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26.
GPS get a lock, short time later it lose the lock.
Tested with different Software (GPS Test, Igo, Navigon, Maps)
does the radio affect the gps?

I noticed following with my phone: GPS gets lock (with Navigon, Google Maps ...) and works fine while phone is connected to the 2G base station. As soon it's switched to the 3G, GPS losts it's lock. If 3G is disabled (*#*#INFO*#*#) everthing works fine. Also lock gets back as soon as 3G is disabled. I'm using MoDaCo 3.2 and did try two different radio ROMs: 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 and 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.26. Hope this helps.
on the 2.1 roms that are available atm the phone needs to be booted with gps turned ON, otherwise it won't find a fix. when you are going back from 2.1 to 1.5 (e.g. modaco) you need to reflash the radio to make the gps work again. that is valid for the JU 09.26 radio, not sure about older versions.
There was an issue with flashing some of the 2.1's and then going back to a restored ROM. I am using the Mr Bang Performance rom, but couldn't get a lock. The solution was to reflash the radio and it should work then.
I'd give that a go, it might sort you out.
EDIT: I see kerndog already pointed that out...
ah perfect, reflashing the radio worked! thanks guys

[Q] GPS not working

Hello,
I have bought a HTC HD2 with a broken digitizer from my friend, fixed it by myself and installed tytung JellyBean 1.2 rom. Everything work fine (phone, WiFi, bluetooth), except no program can find any GPS satellites. All program shows that "GPS is on", or "GPS signal detected", but no matter how long I wait it can't get any signal from satellites. At first I thought that GPS antenna coaxial cable might be disconnected, so I dissembled my phone, but didn't find any problems. Then I made some research and tried to modify GPS.config file (to add NTP server), installed "AngelDeath" Instantaneous GPS Fixation v1.2, tried some programs, but nothing helped.
My phone configuration:
HTC HD2 (512)
HSPL: 2.08.
Radio: Leo_RADIO_2.15.50.14
Bootloader: MAGLDR v1.13
Recovery: Clockwork Mod Recovery 5.0.2.6
Tytung Android 4.12 NAND rom (with data on sd)
Maybe someone knows how to test if GPS chips is good (want to figure out if it is a software version or hardware)?
Many thanks!
P3tras
P.S. I do not know if GPS worked before. I didn't try it with stock windows mobile soft and the person whom I bought phone from didn't ever use GPS
About the gps issue...
I've been on NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a, EvoHD2v10 ICS 4.0.4-full HWA, NexusHD2-ICS-4.0.4-CM9-HWA V2.8,
PARANOIDANDROID HD2 v1.5b, and a few other roms I can't remember...
It seems the gps works great when Wifi or mobile Data is on and can access the internet,
other than that it'll just keep on scanning until it spots a gps satellite.
I have a map app, that downloads the maps of certain countries or cities, but when I turn on gps, it just stay searching for a satellite...
once I turn on wifi and also turn on location services for google (all check on boxes), it takes secons for the gps to pinpoint where I'm at...
Not very good in rural areas where there's very little reception...
it seems miui roms made from langthang or possibly any gingerbread roms works well,
since I had no problems with the gps in miui, rafdroid or coredroid...
I did made a search through google using advanced search and the forums, but only found 4 threads, all but this one only a month old...
Maybe it works for you, get fasterfix from google play, and set it at your current location, then turn on your location services
in the settings, then use your map...
I have a EU HD2 currently running NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a, which in my opinion is running great, minus the gps running offline...
Magdlr
data on ext
16gb sandisk SDcard
Update!! Looks like all I needed to do was put a check on wifi and mobile network location under
settings -> location access.
It might download gps data like windows mobile did when it needed to, but this time google doesn't tell
you that, it just does it...
I haven't tested it when I'm outside so I'll test it tomorrow. I'll post the results after.
current rom I'm using: NexusHD2-JellyBean-4.1.2-CM10 V1.3a, with same settings.
Another Update!!
Just got back from a computer hiccup, and yes, GPS does work offline, it took a while for my phone to pick up
a satellite, but only around 2 to 3 minutes on the second try, it seems that it can pick up in seconds with data
help, then it takes a little longer every minute or hour the GPS is used offline...
But that's my assumption on this process based on how it worked on windows mobile...
Also it's the same on my pad but that's another matter... All I can say is get a map software that download maps
into your phone, rather than the app constantly hogging/relying on your data connection, of course if data connection is
an issue, if not, disregard the last bit.
