WinMo 6.5 Start Menu Reorder Item - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

I'm working on a little tool to allow users to reorder item from the new 6.5 Start Menu.
I'll post it soon. The problems I have is that you must soft reboot your device to be able to see the new order.

i believe there is already something like this.....
look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=481379

Maybe, but...
It resets my Start Menu icon. My tool change the items from the position you already have. (Even if it will look less nice )

The tool mouki_9 linked to can change icons and order in start menu and can also create or move shortcuts...
It's pretty complete so what's your tool do exactly ?
And there is enough room for to softwares so feel free to post yours ;D

how do I get rid of the startmenu?

I think the Cube is much nicer and I don't want 2 different menu interfaces its only confusing so do someone know how to disable the old startmenu? or ultimate make the Cube appear when I press the windows button
there is no need for, just dont press the menu button
the cube would need 10 sides to have all of the startmenu. sometimes you NEED the menu
why should the cube open with menu button ? it opens with gesture.
sorry this thread makes no sense for me.
i disabled the cube its nothing more than a ram eating nice launcher. and Ultimatelaunch can do that better and is easy to customize.
One of the 3rd party start menu programs has 2 options, if you press the little windows flag it launches the normal wm menu, and if you press start it gives you big menu, i spose it would be nice if the windows flag could launch the cube (and maybe chaged to a little icon of a cube) and the start bar would launch the normal menu.
because the startmenu isn't fingerfriendly, and its ugly oldstyle, and it's not needed to have 2 menusystem
both cube and startmenu. Or actually there's 3 menusystem, if you count in launchers from todayscreen.
I guess iCube could replace old startmenu.
also windowsicon already looks like a cube

I see you are asking this for several days now. in all kind of forums.
I don't have the answer for you, but i will tell you how i would try to find the reg key for example.
I would take a program that takes over the start button function ( quickmenu)
Then i will take a reg editor that can compare 2 registries (CEregeditor)
ok
step 1. make a copy of your registry
step 2. install quickmenu
step 3. compare your old registry with the new one and look wich regkey's quickmenu changed and added. (with the option to replace the windows startbutton on offcource)
step 4. try to find the "one" reg key change and try to make it so that it will start for example biotouch.exe
I hope i did get you started, as i'm not a programmer nor i hae any interest in the function you want to make, i will not try to do it myself therefor i wish you good luck with it and i hope for you that you will find it.
Greetz,
how do i get rid of senseless threads ? hehe
thank you re-mi I will try your description
regards
go to the link in my signature, download the Classblack zip file.. and take vjtogglealphaii from it and put it in your startup folder in "/windows/startup"
itll take off both your start menu and your softkeys... if you need to change anything message me ill tell you how to change the registry

[REQ] HTC Taskmanager improvement

Hi There,
If you ever used the "Close Button" plug-in from Spb Mobile Plus you prolly know what I mean...
The HTC Taskmanager looks all nice, I like it, but its only accessible on the Today Screen. Is there a way to make it accessible even when you're not on the today screen?
Sometimes when you're doing stuff you want to "alt-tab" to another program and this is an easy way to do it, or when you want to close another/all other programs.
I hope there's a solution because it really is an improvement to the taskmanager.
me too
sorry, no help here. I can only say "me too". I was actually just thinking about this today. I've had this phone for a few months, and it just today occurred to mr today that you can't close other open programs without going back to the today screen, only option is to "x" button back to today screen or hope that what you seek to close is in your start menu under 'recent items'.
any help or development would be super appreciated, thanks all.
There is a shortcut in the Settings folder in the Systems tab. However, I expect you don't want to go through all of that when you want to use it. As an alternative, you could use file explorer and go into the Windows folder, find the Task Manager program in there, copy it and past a shortcut in the Windows/Start Menu folder. Then it would be on your Start Menu. You would need to remove one other item if you were then over the allowed maximum number of items in there.
Is that accessible enough?
I'd rather not put it in my start menu cus there are other "important" shortcuts in there...
I'd rather have it in the upper right corner...
You could use WkTask
the best free taskmanager there is (not working on wm6.5)

I tried it and I like it, Is there a way to make a backup of my settings?
It seems the program doesnt work as i wished it would. I worked with it for a while and I like the concept alot, but there's a major flaw. Sometimes when I make adjustments to, lets say, my alarm settings (winmo clock/alarms setings), and when I press [ok] the window minimizes (I set the one click to minimize), there's no way you can apply the changes because it will keep on running on the background. If I choose to close it then the changes wont apply. This occurs to many other programs I use in simular occasions when you need to press [ok] to apply settings.
I would still have a solution to the HTC taskbar though. I think I would prefer it over the WkTask taskmanager.

Any Chance for the Old Start Menu?

Hi,
I just installed the official 6.5 update but I think the WM 6.5 "Honeycomb" start menu is that damn slow when you got a lot of programs there. You have to scroll a lot and scrolling doesn't look very fluid.
Is there a way or a registry hack to get back the old HTC start menu that was delivered when the Diamond2 originally came out? The best would be if there where 4 icons in a row.
I've added a snapshot to show what I mean. Yes, as you can see on the snapshot I'm back to 6.1
My startmenu is very fluid to be honest, I got my programs and stuff sorted in folders. Like games, media (coreplayer etc), network (commanager etc), personal (phone, sms, email etc), GPS, system (total commander, resco explorer, reg edit etc). I will install SPB Screenshot and show you how it looks.
Here you go.

Its still there under the programs tab... ? or at least it is on mine...
sorry if this is a noob question, but how do i add folders to the start menu like you've done? and change icons?
I have done the same thing that you have done, Created folders in the start menu, to do this you just go to windows/startmenu and create folders in there.
However every time I soft reset my device, extra icons appear on the main start page screen. Is there any way to remove these?
I would love to go back to the HTC Start Menu as it was so much better, I know it is on a Tab on Touch Flow 3D but it defeats the point in having a hardware button to launch programs!

I totally agree. The current Startmenu lack the support for hiding items en ordering them. Love to find a solution.
I do not have any issues restructuring my start menu.
The only icons I keep on the main page are Phone and Reset, everything else is in a sub-folder and does not add icons to the main page.

True, but the TouchFlo "Programs" was much easier.
So am I the only one who's missing the drop-down menu when you tap the Start button - you know, the one that lists seven favourites and your four or five most recent programs?
Why should I navigate the Honeycomb every time I want to go to a program I use about 30 times a day?
Any fixes/hacks to bring this back? Or am I being really stupid and there's a simple option that I haven't found yet?

You can do this with Topaz Keyboard Controller: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=555821
Map the Start button to run the program "\Windows\manila.exe" with arguments "--switchtopage programs.page", and it should work perfectly - does for me.

Windows Menu Order Home Screen

Ok i know a few of you would like to do this, and i think its been asked before but nothing turns up on search.
What the hell is it with the windows home screen, icons all over the place, no real easy way to move them, or order them.
I have tried a few programs but they mainly just seem to mess things up, i have also tried organizing all my icons into folders in windows, while it does sort of work there are still things you cant move, or it just does not go to plan, i know in 6.5.1 there is an option to re-organise icons how you like, but surely there is a way for 6.5?, its driving me nuts, there is crap all over the place with no organization to it.
Example i do things like this, create folder for the following...
TOOLS
MUSIC
VIDEO
ONLINE
NAVIGATION
ECT...
And place corresponding progs into it, so you have some idea as to where a certain program is, its just neater.
Any ideas anybody?, i came across a site where some chap had written a program and had done everything i want to, but it didnt work for me, just kept crashing.
Jesus i could even do this on my nokia.....
Go to \Windows\Start Menu. There you can create folders that will then show up in the start menu and you can reorganize your shortcuts to those folders.
Use JWMD Icon Changer, it works on the HD2.
I'm obsessive about my Start menu order as well, so I definitely can tell you that program works. You can even change the icons since some programs have tiny jagged icons.
Use JWMD Icon Changer
Thats what i tried, but it does not seem to work and its cumbersome.
What am i doing worng?
What problem are you having exactly? It's not really cumbersome, it's a lot nicer than the other alternative which is Showaco's reStart (that one doesn't seem to work on the HD2, anyway).
If you have used the Windows feature to move icons up/down your Start menu list it will confuse this program, so you need to tap any icon you moved in that way and reset it to where it was before.
Then go to JWMD, browse to the folder you want to organize, click on tools and select arrange list. In the next window you can do organize your icons alphabetically or however you like. Then click save and restart your device and it should all work.
How am i supposed to remember what icons i moved in windows, i moved loads, maybe would explain why its not working.
So back to my original point, it does not really work....
Unless i can do a reset of the icons somehow?
If you tap on an icon and it gives you an option to move it to the bottom, it means you moved it to the top using the built-in method at some point.
The program works, it's not its fault you don't remember which icons you moved. If you don't believe me I can post for you a screenshot of my properly alphabetized Start Menu.
Yes i understand that the program is not meant to know and its not its fault, but bear in mind i have been fiddling with this phone for 4 weeks, theres no way in hell i can remember whats been moved where?.
Is there anyway to reset them all in one go, or it makes the prog pretty useless.
I told you, if you tap and hold on an icon and instead of giving you the option to 'move to the top' it gives you the option to 'move to the bottom' it means you used Windows' built-in way to rearrange those icons.
You can go through your list and move all the ones that let you to the bottom and leave the others where they are. Then try Icon Changer and see if it works.
Alternatively you can just hard reset your phone... or wait until a new ROM comes out... it shouldn't be too long away now and that will erase all your data anyway.
ah ill wait for new rom, to much hassle
Well, you're welcome anyway.

Owner ID

This is an easy question for some of you guys but I cant solve it,I have installed SPB mobile shell v3.5.5 and need to type in my owner id but can't find where to.I have looked everywhere.Do I have to do a hard reset and use contacts and "Me" then reinstall all my info or is there an easy way
Heres hoping.
Don
Hi Don, I had this exact issue and firstly it is possible, I did it.
Secondly I may not have done it the slickest of methods but at least this gets you there. I've tried to recall two routes depending upon where you are starting from.
a) HTC Sense UI:
If you are still in the original UI (HTC Sense) scroll sideways to the "Setting" tab. Touch the "Menu" softkey (bottom right) then "All Settings". You should then see a selection of icons from which touch "Today". That will get you to the old Today settings. See below for next steps.
b) SPB Mobile shell UI
If you are in this shell instead, hit "Launcher". You should now see an icon labled "Settings" (else swipe sideways to the second page to see it). Hit that takes you to a screen with more icons including one for "Today" with a cogwheel on the top of it. Hit that takes you to the old Today settings. Now see below.
Today Settings
Once here. Hit the "Items" tab. Remove any tick on the "HTC Sense" option (else the originally Today Screen won't appear later) and then tick the "Owner Info" option (and any others you fancy). Click on "OK" should now get you back to the old Today screen with the "Owner Info" today plugin showing. It can then be selected and the necessary info add. You can then go back into the today settings and re-tick the HTC Sense item if you want the original UI back and not the Today screen. Personally I use the SPB shell and the today screen rather than the HTC Sense.
I did this a long time ago so my recall may be a bit fuzzy for example; if the "Owner Info" isn't visible in the list of Items in the Today settings (it may not be) then you'll have to go into a reg editor (if you are comfortable doing such things) and navigate to :
[Mobile Device\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Today\Items\]
Then ensure that the key "Owner Info" is present (add if necessary) and enable it (disabling "HTC Sense" at the same time as it seems to overide any other selection). If the key is missing (or you don't have a reg editor) and you need help at this level just drop me a line and I'll post a copy of my settings and suggest a few methods of accessing your registry.
Good luck.
Anybody found an easir way?
Regards - Mallow1
settings - menu - all settings - personal - owner
Sam,
Thanks but my phone doesn't have "owner" at the end of your sequence. I suspect Don is having the same issue (hence me originally having to go into the reg to get access to it to fix mine as nothing obvious was accessible). FYI this is independent of how I get there (through HTC Sense, SPB Shell etc).
Regards - Mallow1
PS I have an unlocked HD2 (none carrier specific) which looks to have originally been packaged for the German market (I'm in the UK and bought it online)
Just to add ti the conversation, my HD2 does not have the Owner when Igo to Personal either.
Ahh course, my mistake.
Hints tips reg tweaks sticky in Q&A section, tip 5 to unhide that option kindly hidden by HTC.
Thanks Mallow1 That did it,thank you all very much.I went to Today ,items and ticked HTC sense that gave me the chance to go to contacts and add the Me details.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=584415 here you will find a cab called touchx show owner
The app Touch Tools will also allow you the option to have the owner in Personal.
