I've got an Xda Orbit 2, and am considering changing to an Xda Guide. has anybody out there done this, or considered it? If so, how do they compare. I lioke the Orbit 2, with the exception of the rubber ring on the scroll button; it keeps coming off. does the Guide have a similar rubber ring?
Tia
Desmac
Yep
Ive done it today
I had problems with the Orbit 2 crashing from time to time
The Guide has already dont this in the first day, ill keep you posted though
The thing does seem generally more stable though
Desmac: Please, use search function before asking. You will find your answer quicker and you will not make everyone angry about asking for something, what was answered before.
Look here and yes, Guide has that rubber ring, but it looks very solid. Anyway, feel free to continue in topic posted before.

upgrading
People don't really like to provide answers on this forum. It must be an european thing. I'm a new member and it took me days to find this link. You can go there and cook your own wm2003 rom. It can even be an exe file. The link is:
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/
Contact me if it doesn't work and I'll send you mine. It works great and it simply upgraded me to wm2003.

I think you must be referring to another forum, take a look at how many posts I have beside my name and look at others who also have many hundreds, this is the most helpful forum I have ever seen anywhere. Why it took you days to find the address to the rom kitchen is a reflection on your inability to search the forum rather than reluctance of others to reply.

i think that the more people hang out in the forum the more fustrated they get posting the same asnwer X times a day
at times people ask a question which is answered in the post right under their post
if search dont work for people who want
1. to get a kitchen url
2. a howto to flash the device using xdatools
then there is something wrong with search on other computers them mine
also many answers are given on the front page of this site
the fustration of being asked the same question over and over again
in the end make the users
1 ignor the question
2 respond rudely
3 stop reading the forum altogether
this is a thing i've notised in forums all over
so i would not asume it a european rudeness issue

What's wrong with providing a link to a good starting ground, as I have in my previous post? Is that not an 'answer' in your books? :?:
I came to this site to learn how to flash my XDA to WM2003.. I have less than 10 posts, yet none of them asked "how to flash?" I simply utilized the search feature and was able to find everything that I wanted to know, and more... much more...
No Offense
I apologize if I've offended anyone. It was simply out of frustration. I was tired of people reffering me to a search page that always returned about 150 posts. It is probably my lack of searching ability. I've used other forums and I know people get tired of answering the same questions. Links to the answers would suffice instead of referals to the search page. My apologies once again since my SX56 would be a paperweight if not for this forum. You guys are simply geniuses.

Re: upgrading
Regarding the recent update to WM2003.
Do you find that your XDA now turns itself to ON every now and then without any prompting? (This occurs when you go in and out of coverage areas.) I found this to happen with every version of WM2003 that I could put together and burn. I like to keep the screen and unit on for a while when I use it and don't have my power usage settings set conservatively. But when WM2003 is on it, it will eat up my battery super fast. I may be driving in my car and have it dash mounted (but without power assist) and watch it turn on every 3 to 4 minutes as I go along. This can also occur when just sitting in one spot if the coverage fluctuates too much the WM2003 turns itself ON without intervention.
Does anyone have a solution or fix for this? Is this happening to anyone else? WM2003  :? :x
It happens to me evrytime (twice a day) when I access metro.
This "feature" really sucks...
The worst thing is that I couldn't do anything with the registry entry like one discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=9412 :?

None taken, at least not here All I'm saying is that the search feature works wonders... yes you may get 150 results, but take an extra 5, 10 mins to sift through them and you'll usually find what you're looking for. I usually focus on the posts with higher number of replies...

Hi all, I bougth my MDA Pro 2 week ago..I'm very disappointed becouse the PDA is very slow..It's impossible to use it for anything.
After a soft reset it's necessary to wait a lot of time to use it..when it goes in Stby wake up is very slow.
Programs run very slowly.
When I receive a call I hear the voice after 4-5 seconds.
What's happen? Is an hardware problem or only WM2005?
To see photo what program (light) can I use? PzP it's another disaster, often phone don't vibrate, or ring tone change by itself.
I'm thinking to sell my MDA PRO and come back on the old MDA 2.
I've read other posts but I want to write my issues too.
bye all..

@klaus, many members here think if there is a probelm with the Universal then the problem is created by the user or their network providers. For many members the Universal is fault free and if it does have a fault you should accept it. Strange world we live in where consumers seem to be happy to be sold shoddy goods by the large companies like M$ and HTC.
My Jasjar use to be slow, but with the new rom(beta), is working great.
About the 4-5 seconds on the ring, i had that problem, but i put my mp3ring tone on the windows/rings and solved my problem.
Im using the new rom for 3days(almost) and is going great. I have nothing to lose by tring it!

removing sim and memory card, etc.
And u will have no problems
Firstly can I just express my HUGE dissapointment on the current standards of the forum, when a simple request for help is met with a bunch of unhelpfull trolling posts. For shame.
Obviously everyone with an MDA Pro is not having the same experience or else they would all be returned.
@Klaus
Can you tell us what ROM you have installed, what other software you have installed, and the usual biggest culprit, what is displayed on the today screen.
If the answer to all the above is nothing, then can you take it back and try a replacement.
Hum... maybe u are right! It was stupid off me trying to give one idea. It worked for me. Using today plug-ins like pocket plus.
VIPER2004 No comment I made was directed at you.
you were clearly the only other person who replied to this thread and made any attempt at resolving the OP's question.
Sorry! I didnt understand it very well. Maybe my ruff English.
But you have a point, to many plug-ins may cause it to go slow; opening the start, turning to laptop mode. But a thing i cant tell u, this is the fastest rom ill ever tested. Better the o2,qtek,mda (latest this by www.buzzdev.net)
Sorry again for the missunderstanding
Guys,
As unhelpfully disorganised as the forum is, there are already several threads on this specific issue. If there's an issue raised here not already covered there, then a new thread is warranted. If not, then's it's better to localise issues and threads in existing threads.
A couple of very good places to start:

That's what the search button is there for, right VJ?
For you guys who dont understand the above statement, IT'S A JOKE.... Pls. don't bombard me with feelings of being insulted..... It seems everyone who mentions to use the search button does..... But it has helped me a lot.... Well, I agree that the Universal was almost always VERY SLOW out of the box specially with so much plug-ins.
I'm one of those who just likes to keep on installing so many apps but never using any of them really.
Anyway, there are a lot of possibilities and most of the problems are caused by 3rd party software that aren't designed specifically for WM5 from the goround up. Also, it took me more than a month to actually speed up the device...
I had a h6340 before and that was SLOWWWWWWWWWWWW.....

I was trying to point that out, "politely" The other threads on this issue are very useful, and I'll just mirror what I've said on every other thread on this issue. Don't install the extended rom dialler - it's a world of pain for no good reason, other then cosmetic (and video calls!)

I think you reference to "troll" was aimed at me. Hopefully people who are frequent visitors know i have tried to help a lot of members and I have heled UK members get the Exec for a lower cost. I personally have helped a friend in the US get a Exec as cheap a possible as they are not available. My response was to simon_darly's unhelpful initial response to Klaus.
Klaus - sorry for this.
this fourm is free.
You dont get nothing for free. If you eventually get some help then be thankful, if you dont, go pay for some help else where.
JAmes
my comment was due to the statement
Universal..very slow..to much slow..incredibly slow
well duuuhh
if anybody tried searching the forum even once on the word slow on the universal forum, they would have found hundreds of posts on this same topic, and simply taking the time to have a read through what has beeing going on and what has been resolved would have greatly assisted the process.
I simply get sick of helping those people that dont even take any time to help themselves at all. In fact I get 214 of them, of which I have contributed to 14 of them.
THEN.... the same statement again. Which on reading of it by the way was simply a statement, and was not a question, nor a request for assistance.
"I've read other posts but I want to write my issues too"
Hence my comment "thats nice"
Why oh why did you need to open up an entirely new forum discussion if you had taken to read the others, you could simply have posted directly into any one of the 214 that raised it rather than open yet another one.

Hi, i have a XDA Orbit 2 and was wondering what is the best iphone skin or infact the best skin for it. I have windows mobile 6 installed.
Any help would be great as i am a little new to this
thanks
Hi humbug68 and welcome to the forum.
Try doing a search of the forums looking for 'iphone'.
You probably should also look through the wiki to make sure you know what you're doing or else your nice new Orbit2 could end up an expensive paper weight.
There's so much great information in these forums - you just need to take the time to read through. There's plenty of folk who will flame you for asking 'noob' questions as well, so a bit of research will also keep you safe from that.
Good luck!
here is a couple to get you started, but as cr1960 says you are better to start searching this stuff yourself. once you find the skin you want, if you run into an issue post the question into the thread for that skin release.

Is there a way to change the incoming call screen? Instead of the one that you have to drag up to answer?
I'd like to know, too, but it's low on my priority list, so I haven't really dug into it yet.

Not really trying to nitpick, by why would you reply to a thread if you have nothing helpful to say?
I bet you are one of those people who cry and lecture when newbies post questions without searching, even though maybe they spent hours searching, but didn't know the correct terms to use. Well, I've been around this board long enough to know to thoroughly search BEFORE posting. That is exactly what I did, and found the 2 threads you mentioned. I thought that was the whole point of searching, to find old threads pertaining to your question, so you won't have to needlessly start a new thread.
And in reply to your question, neither thread had any helpful replies posted, and they were the only ones I found after hours of searching. I was hoping one of the OPs might have found a solution. And now thanks to you, when someone searches for call screen replacements, they will benefit from your very helpful post
PS: So as to not post a completely useless reply (as the previous poster did), after further searching, I discovered 2 apps that will change the answer screen.
1. Fullscreen Caller ID
2. Incoming Call Plus Beta
I am new to android as I bought a Tab on release day in the u.s. In my 2 and half months of having the tab and being a member of xda I search the forums quite regularly and I have noticed something. This will make me sound like a real negative person, but I have noticed that the exact same questions get posted time and time again. I don't think a week can go by without someone asking how to get a full wallpaper or if the tab can get Netflix.
So I was wondering how many people do one of two options for forums...
A. When you have a question, do you just post it and wait a day to see if anyone answered it?
B. Or do you search the forums for your answer so you get your question answered in a few minutes of research?

Hummmm.... Search, Search, Search!!!!
But not to defend but, I'm going to bet their are alot of "Noobs" that really have no clue as to what they just got there hands on when buying something like a Tab or have ever even used a forum. I was a long time Mod on a site called MyTreo.net and remember when the Treo 600 came out... So may repost of just about everything from how to send MMS's to why does my battery keep running out. New technologies and new devices will always generate people who have never used a forum to get help. It's all part of the game brother.
I just always try and remember the everyone was a "Noob" at one point. I try to point them in the right direction and remind them to use the search function.

Yes, people don't search... but you have to understand that sometimes people don't know what to search for also, since they are new to a product. So they post the best they can their question/concern. After all this is a forum discussion, where people talk.
When I started to use these forums, I never found what I was looking for as answer.

It does make you sound like a negative person. I really don't mind the repeated questions; many users here are not native English speakers and that can make searching difficult. Another problem is that very few people know how to spell anything correctly, which also makes searching a problem. If the new thread is in the Q+A section, no big deal. Some of us are not power users but we'd like to help new folks when they arrive (just like some folks helped us when we were new).
On the other hand, what really does bother me is when someone creates a new thread complaining about 1) some perceived flaw in the galaxy tab or; 2) some irritation with other users. Even worse is when it's just a rhetorical and self-righteous "question" and is titled something useless and uninformative like "poll."

Sorry to offend you slack04. But if you hate people on this site who ridicule other users then why the attack on me? Isn't that a bit hypocritical?
I was just asking the community their thoughts on the issue. If you look at the forums you will see a wallpaper scaling post and if you scroll down the screen you will see 3 more of the same exact issue. No search is really required. It is just a matter of scrolling down a little bit. I know I have probably asked questions that have already been answered here, but after I searched for an answer. My question was meant as a more philosophical reasoning to searchering forums or just post question.
Hence the title poll. But I guess I could have titled the topic better.
