For those who don't know google updated the gmail experience for iphone and Android phones and left us!!!
see http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2009/04/gmail-gets-new-engine-for-iphone-and.html
They are probably working on a version for windows mobile devices. They better be!
But in the mean time, I wanted to get a slice of the action on my touch HD device, and I was thinking of changing the user agent for the browser so that gmail thinks opera mobile is safari.
If found this settings on the forum

But it's not tailored for the touch hd screen.
Can someone with more experience, tell me how we could get this to work best.
Thanks.

Been searching around and have seen the tutorials telling you how to change the user agent settings in Opera through the 'opera:config' menu but no matter what setting I choose I get the same report when I go to http://www.whatsmyuseragent.com
mozilla /4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; WIndows CE; IEMobile 7.11)
How can I get it to report as a desktop or iphone browser?
Thanks
I got it working as Iphone

Hey maybe this is too late but look for User Pref in about:config, there is a Custom User Agent setting where you can enter your favorite one. Rember to scroll all the way to the bottom after entering the UA and press SAVE, then restart Opera.
Iphone UserAgent:
Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20
Enjoy
If anyone has their hands on a virgin (non-hacked) Sapphire/Magic could I bother you to check and record the user agent form the default browser?

Any help would be greatly appreciated and helps go to the better development of some software I'm working on specifically for the Android platform and devices hosting.
Thanks!!

I can't seem to find a way to make opera 9.7 automatically open web content as full desktop version instead of mobile versions.
For instance NYtime.com and cnn.com: How do I get opera to open these webpages as full desktop versions instead of the mobile versions?
I know opera 10 can do this right off the bat, but please don't mention opera 10. There is so many things I dislike about it (lets not talk about them in this thread).
use a custom user agent.
when you access a site your browser tells the site what browser it is. you can fake this, so your phone reports itself as (for example) firefox.
in opera go to
opera:config
scroll down to user prefs
scroll to custom user agent
poor your user agent of choice in there.

okay, under cust. user gent, this is my default settings:
HTC_Touch_HD2_T8585 Opera/9.70 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)
I have tried to google up some other things but I cannot find anything that can change webpages such as nytimes.com and cnn.com into desktop versions.
The sad part is that those webpages dont have any link that say "view desktop version". This is ridiculous because the iphone can view these webpages normally in desktop version.
Can anyone confirm how they do theirs?
I too would love to know what exactly to replace that value with.
Thanks!

I think those default identify exactly that it's an HD2 and running Opera Mobile.
(I THINK..) Using this page and going down to the Opera section, you can change it to be anything as long as it's not the mobile agent id.

Have a look at Post 15, it's works for me, displays the full desktop sites using Opera 9.7
Hi colleagues,
I would very much like to have the Safari browsing experience using my HD2 with Opera 9.7 installed.
The question is: is there any way to trick Opera in thinking it's Safari so that the IPhone optimized sites display the content as seen from Safari?
Thank you in advance for your help and I hope I made myself understood with my poor english.

Look up the user agent for the Safari browser and put that in the advanced options part of Opera.
You make it sound easy, I'm not saying it's not, I found Safari IPhone user agent : Mobile Safari 1.1.3 – iPhone but in opera:config under User agent I can only find Spoof User ID with a numeric option. What am I missing ?
no ideas ?

this is a bad idea, iphone versions of webpages often take advantages of features only found on safari fro iphone. since oepra wont support those features you will just see badly format pages with links that your phone wont understand to video content and similar.
but if you really want to do it use opera 10 instead of opera as installed on the hd2 as it supports user agent changing.
Put this under custom user agent:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; es-US) AppleWebKit/531.22.7 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Safari/531.22.7
If you want a better one,use this one; safarri sucks.
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3
