They just seem to sit there in the queue and not download. I can sometimes kick them into gear by starting up other programs that use network, or switching from the rogers network and back to wifi. I haven't been able to find a solution I can replicate each time and sometimes things just never download, which sucks because I really do want these programs. Someone mentioned this is a known issue but is there a workaround for this? I wish I was able to just download the .apk on the computer and manually install after I move it to the sd card. Please help....it's frustrating!

It's just the connection hanging for that download. There isn't much that can be done other than switching connections/enabling/disabling the radios.

has anybody got this problems before!? it would just randomly connect to Edge even if i turn it off, it will be back on it again after some time
is this normal? i dont have a data plan so it worries me a bit.
I believe what you are seeing is the indicator that shows when you are in an Edge coverage area - similar to your bars that indicate signal strength for making calls (that are there even if you are not making a call). As long as you don't use any data you will not be charged for any.

What appz do you have installed? I personally had forgot to tutrn off the 'auto-update' feature on GooSync before and it auto-conected to edge (or attempted to anyways) on it's own. I believe you may have a similar issue with a app trying to phone-home or something of the like. . . . .
The good thing is, if that is the case, it's not going actually get to connect to anything (typically speaking) so chances are great you've nothing to worry about.
I don't have a data plan either, you can prevent your phone from connecting to edge/3g by installing this .cab file
"MoDaCo_NoData-SNE.CAB"
Here is a direct link to download it. After you place the file on your phone, use file explorer to open and install it. It's very simple.

Thank you everyone for your Quick and prompt reply.
I figured it out! it was my Email Account i had setup in my Wing, All i had to do is disable the Auto Send/Receive feature. For some reason after the phone connects to the edge network to check for emails it wouldn't or couldn't disconnect itself...
New user here, please tolerate my long post with many questions. I've had my Touch Pro 2 for a few months now, but haven't gotten into customizing it at all yet. What I'm wondering is if there is a program that can prevent my phone from accessing the internet or using any data unless I am connected to Wi-fi. I'm a University student and spend most of my time on campus, which has free Wi-fi. Occasionally while tinkering with my phone I get an error message from one program or another, and the browser instantly kicks up and leads me to a page for troubleshooting. Eventually costing me data fees.
Is there any way to prevent my phone from accessing the internet entirely unless it is connected via Wi-Fi? I found a few programs that looked like they might solve my problem, but they only seem to work when roaming. Also if anyone happens to know, is the battery drain much higher if I leave Wi-fi on all the time? I'm currently in the habit of turning it off and on when I need to use it, but if the drain is low enough I might stop bothering with the constant on/off switching.
Thanks in advance for any help you folks can offer!
PS: Are there any "must have" programs or tweaks that I should know about? Other than a few games, my phone is still entirely stock. I've looked over the "software worth installing" thread, but being new to Windows Mobile it's hard to know what is a slight tweak, and what is something that everyone should probably have.
Search for the "NoData" cab. I think it's from Modaco.
I noticed that one previously, but was under the impression that it only blocked data transfers when roaming? If that's not true, or it can be configured otherwise, then that should be exactly what I'm looking for.
I used this program for my wife's phone. It blocks your phone from accessing your carrier's data network. It turns the hardware off, I believe. Worked for me!
first you should turn error reporting off since you'll never get a message back for a fix as MS won't do anything about it half the time. And second you should be able to turn off the 3g in connection settings under communication in the settings menu. When you do that it shouldn't auto on. You don't need any software to do what you need for this. I've had mine since it came out and the settings have held up through the Tilt and the Fuze as well. Hope this helps.

my phone is unlocked and i use it on cincinnati bell. i understand that these are some sort of certificate files. should i leave these alone or does it matter? ive found 3 instances of these files in /data/misc, /system/etc and /etc. thanks!
Can you be more specific when you say "unlocked"? Do you just mean SIM unlock? Or have you done something else?
If you're still running the stock ROM (which it sounds like you are), then I general do not recommend deleting things because it's not exactly clear whether the phone needs these files in order to work properly. Is there some reason you want to delete these files?

yes i am both sim unlocked and rooted running the stock rom. the reason i am looking to delete these files is to hopefully remedy an issue i have with my data connection. one is (although not really a big deal) the first time i try to access the market after reboot, it kicks my connection. i then have to wait until my connection restores to access the market. im aware of the fact that for you guys on tmo, instead of the link that says "my apps", yours says tmo. after the that initial kick, the market opens up just fine
second, i have shotty data connections when surfing the net, etc. my data connection sends, receives, waits a few seconds, then repeats the process. it takes far too long just to access my google search home page.
im thinking that if i remove these certificate files then the phone wont send requests to tmo, since im on a different network. at this point im just brainstorming because this **** is getting really old. the only way for me to really use my phone is thru wifi, and thats not always available. any thoughts to why my phone might act like this?
Hello all. I, like many others, got an HTC shift online recently and it's in Italian. Got Vista in English, but I'm having trouble liberating the Snapvue side.
I've been jailbreaking and hacking iPhones since before there were GUI utilities to do the work for us. I'm a computer tech by trade, so I'm pretty familiar with tech in general.
I've used my SIM card from my Galaxy Note, it's an AT&T SIM, with partial success. I don't speak Italian, but I do speak computer, so it's obvious that it keeps giving me a message about connecting to EDGE or GPRS or 3G. Constantly. It gets in the way of me trying to do anything else. The weather works, so I know it's reading the SIM. I can force my way through setting up gmail or iCloud email, but it never actually pulls any email. I get an error message that translates roughly to " can't connect. If the problem persists, try restarting the system." I can't get past here.
I tried the other method, using Internet sharing through some trickery, but one step of the instructions says to click "connect" or "connetti" in my case, but the "connetti" button is greyed out.
Any help would be appreciated, and while I'm not a dev, I can comprehend complex ideas and instructions, so probably no need to dumb it down.
Spike
So you are getting weather updates everytime you hit refresh?
Is the SIM card a contract card or a pay as you go monthly?
Let me know and I might be able to help.
It's a contract unlimited SIM. Oddly, through all the connection error messages, it seems to update weather reliably when I open it.

EDIT: I tried the Internet sharing trick again, this time with the SIM card installed, and the "connetti" button was not greyed. For about 30 seconds, long enough for Vista to install the drivers, I was able to see "PocketPC." It went away, and I haven't been able to get it to show up again, but I haven't messed with it much. Looks like I may be able to get this without the email trick, but I'd still appreciate any help you can give.
Update: I got the .CAB file into My Documents, and I got the .lnk file into Settings, but Liberate does not show up when I open settings in Snapvue. I could have sworn Vista was able to read my SIM before, but it won't anymore.
Update again: I'm returning the Shift and exchanging it for one that can read my SIM properly. I suspect a bad radio firmware installation, but rather than force my way through liberating it to see if reflashing the modem firmware would fix it, I'll just have 1saleaday replace it, which they were quite willing to do. Will report on success or failure.
Well I wound up having to go to Dunkin Donuts in order to get a wifi that would work with this thing. I got passed the wifi screen and into the main screens so at least now I can turn it on and such without the wifi.
This is my first android tablet (in fact first tablet) and I'm not sure I like it. I have no idea how to do squat on this thing as there are no basic directions. I can figure stuff out, but without the wifi, I'm cut off from a lot of the stuff. I tried to download the book on the gplay site for the nexus, but it seems I can only read it with a connection to wifi.
I have several pdf files I would like to transfer over (books actually I'd like to read) so do I just hook this up to the computer and copy the files over? Do they go to a folder? Or just hang out on the drive? I'm not even sure which app I would use to read them. Until I can get the wifi fixed, I can not download anything else unless I go to burger king or something. (sigh).
And if anyone can help with the wifi issue, I would be great full. If not, I guess I will return this thing, but I don't want to get a replacement to have the same thing happen again. I see I"m not the only one with the issue. I just don't know what to do.
Thank you everyone
