I am experiencing problems with my Mp3 ringtones which have been assigned through photocontacts and are kept on my storage card.
For some reason it keeps defaulting back to the awful default ringtone, it cant be the size of the file because I have cut them down in size.
The thing is if I change it back and test it with a friend ringing me immediately then it works but if you leave it for a while the next time they ring it has defaulted back.
I keeping changing it back and it works for 10 minutes or so then defaults back to the original.
This is really annoying, has anyone else experienced these problems and been able to fix it?
thanks in advance.
i have this problem too.
Xda II Mini.. :?
Put your ringtones in \Storage instead of the card. The SD is too slow to start when the Magician is sleeping and the system can't find your ringtones.
Used to have this problem also. After keeping my tones in \Storage I've never had this problem again. I use WMA tones Stereo encoded at 96kbps.

I had this problem too...even if I have put the ringtones in Storage folder... I have solved the problem with downgrading the ROM from 1.06 to 1.03...but left the radio stack 1.05...now it works fine...the caller ID, but have some issues with answering the phone...

I have the exact same problem with mynew XDA IIi, although it has a standard ringtone assigning feature. None of the solutions seems to work. Any help, I'm really getting very frustrated with this problem!!!!
I have the same problem but with regards to the photo in the caller ID. I resolved this problem by usiung the old version of the Photo Contact Application.

Could you please be more specific wrt: "the Photo Contact Application". Where do I get it from, and how to install it on my XDA IIi?
I too have problem - for some reason the Caller ID app will not function at incoming call after a while. i've tried to determine if there is a specific app I'm using that is conflicting, but so far the results are inconclusive.
What also sucks about Photo Contacts is that there is no way to backup and restore your photo/ringtone assignments - this kind of software limitation is just not allowed in this century!

Hi mates, after doing the BigStorage thingie to my mini, and flashing it to 1.11.00 WWE, I have caller ID issues too!!
sometimes i get my predefined photos, and sometimes i don't!! i even set a default for all incoming calls, and sometimes it doesnt show too..
Then, i found 1.12 Caller ID CAB and installed it. System complained that some files exists and cannot be over-written. I note down the names, delete the existing files manually, and then redo the CAB install, and it doesnt complain. but i still have issues with photos that sometimes doesnt appear.
So, in this case, which version of CallerId should i downgrade to??
does my above method to install 1.12's Caller ID applies when i downgrade the caller-id??
thnx!!
Have u got PocketMusic installed?

no pocket music. what i have for Today plugin is:
1) D25
2) TodayPlus
3) PhoneAlarm
my primary suspect is the BigStorage hack.. and the "new" 1.11.00 WWE ROM.
i need to know which old version of CallerID are you guys talking abt, so i can try and download it and test..
Ringtones
I also have the same problem. Unfortunately, i cannot link it to anything in particular as I have been tweaking mine since 2003SE was made available. I installed originally Sin's Rom and all worked fine, then I found out that the JoJo/Tonenailed release made a comparison between the two and found that they had a newer Caller ID.cab file and installed it.
Dunno if that is the cause, but I need to know what files need to be "renamed"/deleted in order to install back to the original cab file that was provided in Sins version, then I can tell if that is the cause.
Ring tones are also a problem, which I believe is related. However, I cannot change any ring tone at all, they all default to some dodgy one. Even if place .mid files into the ringtones directory, they dont get "recognised". I even open them manually, and say "set as ringtone" (which I think only copies to the existing ringtones directory), however this didnt work either.
So, in summary, if somebody can tell me the files to rename to install Sins caller id.cab file, I will find out if this is the cause or not.
My caller ID version (photo contacts) version is 1.20 (Build 18567)
Do you guys have a method to restore your ringtone/photo assignments after a hard reset or a ROM upgrade?
to swedbass
Yes! Just use photo contacts pro. Simply the best!
I have been using BigStorage hack on my 1.11 ROM and I can confirm that it has nothing to do with this hacked ROM. I experienced this problem previously when I had PocketMusic installed on my Mini. What I did to solve this problem was I unassociated all media files from my PocketMusic and use Resco File Explorer to associate those media files back to Media Player.
I also did a registry hack to point the ring tone folder to my Storage instead of the default Windows/Rings folder.
For your information, I am using Photo Contacts Pro as well.
Based on experience here is what I can contribute:
1) Place the ringtones in a local memory storage, maybe the Storage ROM or in Windows\Rings, avoid the avoid the SD card, it takes up time to initialize.
2) Use the old version of Photo Contacts, I was refered to use 1.20 as it had less issues with GPRS problems as well.
3) If you have third party applications playing MP3s, make sure it is registered. If you are using Pocket Music and you are still trying to use the Bundle which is not registered, the ringtones will stop or not work because the player is not initializing becasue it requires a serial or something.
4) Try to get the file association to WMP to play .wma files.
Hope this helps.
When I receive a call, voice command announces it as it should, lowering the ringtone volume to announce over the top of it, problem is, it's reducing the volume too much, and I can't hear it speaking...
Does anyone know a way of:
a. Preventing voice command from lowering the volume at all?
b. Increasing the gain on voice command's announcements?
Any and all help is appreciated, thanks.
hah, when i used MS voice command my problem was that it didn't lower the ringtone enough.
I have no clue how to do what ur asking for, after a while i just turned my ringtone off and just had the announce of the name and number.
I got this CAB file from another post.
It did the trick for me.
Hi,
Start Menu->Settings->Voice Command
Choose Phone, then click Options, Remove checkbox to 'announce incoming calls'. Now your ringtone will rin normally.

What does this cab file do? is it modification to Voice command, or is a simple registry hack?
Hello
Use any registry editor like resco and do the following
Goto current user
Then control panel
Then sound categories
Then voicecommand1
And change the atenuationcategory from 3 to 1
That will do the thing. The lady will be louder.
Theses suggestions seem to make little or no difference, the only change seems to be that the music isn't turned down as much.
I've tried manually making the changes, and running/instaling the cab file "MPIIIMan" presented me with.
Is there any way I can physically change the program to increase the gain? I don't mind if I have to dissassemble code or anything to make changes, but i'd like to get it sorted...
I'd use cyberon, but I can't find ANY working links for it on either Limewire, IRC, or any websites, either the full program or a demo... Has it dissappeared from existance???

BTW, I noticed there's another setting in that registry key called "initvol" and it's said to 5. My best guess would be initial volume? Anyone try playing with that to see what that does?

Hi!
I've been reading a lot of these forums about activating A2DP with a mono-bluetooth headsets, and found (in different places) some different ways, (change a couple of registry settings and with some pocket pc/headset one had to change a file called BTAGExt.dll)
I have made a CAB file for these hacks and also included the file "BTAGExt_new.dll" I call it _new because I change the registry to locate this new file instead of the old, that way one doesn't have to overwrite the dll file and can, if problems occur, change in the registry instead. The file is needed for some (me included) that are having trouble with music playing in the headset for about 10seconds.
Anyway, i have made a self-installing cab file for this, so that other people may use it easily, without need of hacking the registry, one does not need to use btaudioon and similar program to make this work,
EDIT: AS many people pointed out, here are the instructions to USE this , sorry for that:

It is nice to see my little hack being used
BE AWARE:
*VoiceCommand DOESN'T WORK!! (since my cab disables it in favour of all-sound in headset)
*I take NO RESPONSIBILITY if this crashes your phone or anything else, USE IT AT OWN RISK!
* It only changes this things:
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings]
"UseJointStereo"=dword:00000000
"BitPool"=dword:0000003a
"MaxSupportedBitPool"=dword:00000050
"MinSupportedBitPool"=dword:0000000e
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Builtin\BtA2dpSnd]
"Priority256"=dword:0000003c
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand]
"LaunchApEnable"=dWord:1
"VoiceCmdDuration"=dWord:15180
And copies this file: BTAGExt_new.dll to \Windows (or whatever windows dir you have)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway]
"BTAGExtModule"=string:"BTAGExt_new.dll"
Then do a soft-reset and voila, the sound should work.!
This worked great with my X01HT and Motorola HS850.
I used this too with my Sony HBH-60 bluetooth mono headset and it worked perfectly for me too .
Much better for listening to podcasts while in bed!
(no more strangling myself with earphone wires! )

I am not sure, but I belive that if you uninstall it it should go "back" to normal.
otherwise, the "normal" would be
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings]
"UseJointStereo"=dword:00000001
"BitPool"=dword:0000003a (this setting just changes the soundquality)
"MaxSupportedBitPool"=dword:00000050 (this too delete if not wanted)
"MinSupportedBitPool"=dword:0000000e (and this, delete if not wanted)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\Builtin\BtA2dpSnd]
"Priority256"=dword:0000003c (delete if not wanted, better quality)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand]
"LaunchApEnable"=dWord:1 (KEEP!)
"VoiceCmdDuration"=dWord:15180 (change to 30seconds or whatever, dword:30)
And copies this file: BTAGExt_new.dll to \Windows (or whatever windows dir you have) (delete this file!)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Bluetooth\AudioGateway]
"BTAGExtModule"=string:"BTAGExt_new.dll" (change to BTAGExt.dll)

Thank you very much.
I use the audio to bluetooth feature with skype as it would otherwise send the sound to the loudspeaker, which, in a public place is not really convenient.
Now, with the code to "on" the sound and the code to"off" it, maybe there would be a simple way to create an app which would toggle from one state to the other? would you know how to do that ? alternatively, is there some kind of scripting tool for the ppc that I could use ?

I believe that it is, at least on my device, but I may be wrong, it was long since I did my cab file. so not 100% sure no,
I was as curios as you, could it be that it uses mono to save bandwith? and thereby increase the range of the bluetooth?
but hey, I am no expert, I roughly took reghacks from around this forum and put together a cab file, I tried to make the cab to produce the best sound availible to a monoheadset, and nothing more, nothing less.
as it were a couple of weeks ago I since I did this i don't really remember every detail of it, but I believe most of this is stated in the hermes_wiki

I wanna know if I installed this file to use something like Skype, can I not only hear the sound from my Bluetooth headset but also speak through the headset too?
How do I get back to normal?
Hoping someone could help me out. I tried installing the file above. The installation process went well, but immediately following the soft reset, I noticed that my phone screens and response to menu picks was considerably slower. My phone locks up all of the time, and I am unable to toggle the bluetooth on and off. I tried to uninstall the application, but I get a message at the end saying that it was unable to completely remove the program. Wondering if anyone could help me to get to the registry and change the settings back to normal. HELP!!!!

Thank you for the cab/hacks. None of the other alternatives worked on my 8525. Now if someone could incorporate this into someway to switch between modes, that would be great. Right now, I install and uninstall the cab several times a day! I get nervous that the registry will get corrupt from all of the install/uninstalls.
Thank you very much!
Hi!
thanks for all the appreciation about my cab! I am happy to see that others are using it and are happy about it
I also noticed that some people has problems with it,
dhenry88: Try and install it again, otherwise, try and revert the setting yourself, I posted the "original" settings a some time ago in this thread, so go get a reg-editor and hack it
because that is all the cab-file does, changes registry (and copies a file to /windows/system32
however, this file is not important for the os itself (because I change the registry to find the changed file, not changing the file and overwriting the original.
but sorry to hear that it had such bad performance on your phone, it shouldn't do anything like that, but hey, every phone is different.

Indeed this is a great little program and I'm very thankful for it. Like lantern, I think it would be great if someone could figure out a way to switch modes easily as I'm unable to initiate a voice call through my Bluetooth headset with this program installed. I too have to install/uninstall the cab many times each day. I’m certainly not complaining, just expressing a wish.
Hi, all. Last night I came across a couple of reg setting's that added an extra option when making a phone call.
Here is the main key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\PHONE\EnableICR
Change value from 0 to 1.
Also change to the following:
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Voice]
"AllowInCallRecording"=dword:00000001
"EnableCallRecodMenuItem"=dword:00000001
Reboot phone.
Then make a Phone call then press right softkey (Menu) and Record appears as an option. Press it and the phone plays a sound (indicating beginning of recording) and phone returns to normal in call screen. When call is hung up or you press stop recording in the menu. Another sound plays. Go to notes under My Documents on Phone and there is a time and date stamped audio file.
I have not fully gone there with this yet as I'm at work (long weekend/ 8am sat till 6pm Mon) But will let you know of any progress as and if I get any.
Bye for now.
Phil
Note
Sorry for basic path error, I'm working right now and am just popping in from time to time. Sorry once again.
Diigibio,
I believe the other registry keys to be modified may be the following:
[HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\WaveDev]
"VocRecPath"=dword:00000002
[HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL]
"RingingAdressId"=dword:00000000
[HKLM\System\AudioRecording]
"Enabled"=dword:00000001
[HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Voice]
"AllowInCallRecording"=dword:00000001
"EnableCallRecodMenuItem"=dword:00000001
Nonetheless, despite these modifications, it appears that the recording is not totally perfect with some software, such as Vito Audio Notes Touch (the voice of the callee is too low)
...
Thanks for posting this. Needs to get added to the hints and tips sticky.
The key is actually at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\PHONE\EnableICR on my HD2
Cheers,
tried it on a German stock 1.43 ROM, RECORD option does not appear in the menu even after soft reset.
And BTW, the correct path would be:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\PHONE\EnableICR
Best regards

No i haven't, but i will. Can you confirm me i took the right CAB ? There are two.
Do these reg tweaks apply onlu for the built-in Windows Mobile recording option ? I'm looking for one which does the job automaticaly (not the case of this one apparently). So i wish to use Resco.
I remember this reg tweak back with the Blackstone. I tried it on the HD2 but the sound quality is very low and poor. Is there anything else that can be done to improve it? Once all is good I will add to hints and tips thread.

tboy, thanks.
That would be very helpful.
The above registry tweaks do work, and phone conversations can be recorded. The only thing we shall improve is the low sound quality.
There must be a registry for the volume level too.
So. . .
I have done this tweak on my device,
with all the additional info and Reg Changes also.
The recording of my voice is crisp and clear, while the recording of the other person is very weak (low volume) and noisy.
I think I read on another thread that someone else encountered a similar problem.
So my question is - is there anything else I should do to improve the recording quality of the other person ?
Is there anyone else still having the same problem ?
Thanks.
I too have done the various reg edits and although it seems to work (there is a record option when making a call, a sound plays and a file is generated) the output file doesn't contain either outgoing or incoming sound!
I had to create the key "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Voice" since it didn't exist, I wonder if this has any bearing on the matter?
I also initiated recording before I was connected to the other end, maybe that's my problem.
I will try only activating record once I'm connected and I will also give that cab a whirl, and report back
il be keeping an eye on this one,
Let us know if it works, and on both sides !
Cheers.

Any news about that?
Steps I took
Hey all,
I though I'd give this a shot. I changed the Main key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\PHONE\EnableICR from 0 to 1.
However I didn't have the folder/key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Voice So I created it!
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Voice
"AllowInCallRecording"=dword:00000001
"EnableCallRecodMenuItem"=dword:00000001
It all seems to work, the menu option appears and I get the sound when recording starts, however it's very quiet.
One way around this is to put the phone on load speak. Then the recording is clear.
Hope this helps.

Hi All,
First question from me. I have just moved to the TD2 from nokia n95. On the N95 you could set it so that is would say the callers id when they rang. So, I had a short ring tone that would play, then it would say the name and cycle.
Does any body know if it is possible (or how to do it) on the TD2.
thanks for your help and ideas.
cheers
Use Voice Command...START-SETTINGS-PERSONAL-VOICE COMMAND
if it is installed on your device.
thanks jdwilson,
it is not installed on my device - do you know how I would get it?
Search on this forum or Google.
Well, I have got it installed and working for everything but the caller id (despite all the things ticked and setting the bits from other threads). If anybody has any great ideas they will be welcomed, but I will play.
It certainly allows a gap in the tone, but the phone is silent, then the tone starts up again, so I think it is trying to do it.
Use this:
http://www.htc.com/www/SupportDownload.aspx?p_id=249&cat=0&dl_id=673
But can it be used on other ROM versions?
I was never clear what, exactly, this update did - and since HTC said it could only be applied to a ROM version that pre-dated mine (and 6.5) I never found out!
If this 'fixes' any issue for Caller ID is it applicable to WM6.5???
thank fighter for the suggestion, but my rom version is not suitable
Read this:

thanks again fighter, my caller id displays fine it is just not annouced.

The control cab generates errors (I have installed mortscript)
I was wondering if the system was not putting the ttscallerid.wav in the volatile, so I am trying to search the the phone for the file, I have not found it yet - using activesync and explorer.
Still digging, but the other features are quite good.
