Is Topaz is available for sale for US UMTS bands? In all the online shops i see this phone only with UMTS 900 and 2100. I am planning to buy one but i dont see one with UMTS 850 and 1900.
I'm still waiting for 850mhz. It clearly isn't out yet.
3G for AT&T US?
Does anyone have any info on whether and if yes, when, the Topaz will be offered with the US 3G bands??
I'm Not sure which bands AT&T uses seeing I'm with T-mobile but here are the bands the phone has.
GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(900+2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)
UMTS(2100+800)
3G on T-mobile does not work but I don't mind because Edge is fast enough for me. I had faster loading times on Webpages yesterday than my freind with a touch pro on Sprint's 3G. So ya. I don't know anyone with AT&T or else I'd throw the SIM in and try it.

If that is correct -----the UMTS 1900+850 part----- then those are the AT&T 3G frequencies. Where did you see those bands?

If you go to Settings/All Settings/Personal/Phone/Click on the Band Tab it is under the Selet your GSM/UMTS band.
If I go to the mall today I will stop by the AT&T store and see if someone there is willing to insert their SIM in it to see if it gets 3G. If so I will post up.

That is great!! If you can check and let us know that would be a great help!!
Is UMTS band availability is all software/firmware related.. i thought thats hardware.
having those band settings does not mean it will work on US 3G networks. for example, the UK Touch HD (from the UK) has the same band listings as above but the radio doesn't support at&t's 3G bands (850/1900). it will work for voice and EDGE internet speeds without issue. it's a hardare limitation. 3 months after releasing the UK HD, HTC released a Telstra (Australia) version of the Touch HD that had the same band listings (as above) that works with 850 3G bands. Since Telstra uses the same 850 3G band that at&t uses, the Telstra HD can access at&t's 3G network. i'm speaking from fact because i have both the UK and Telstra HD versions.
HTC is known for relasing the same device with radio limitations: they did it with the Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch HD and they're doing it for the Diamond 2. if you want US 3G access - via at&t - on the Diamond 2 you'll have to wait until HTC releases the US 3G version.

This clarifies. Thanks friend. Do you aware of any news on when HTC might release the D2 for US?
verified today.... does not work on at&t. the guys at the store said that it is 1900/900 band not 850. 850od the 2g frequency. havnt checked on how correct they are on this but a quick google search will verify the frequencies.
A reply from HTC
See the reply from them below. HTC did not mention about any carrier like ATT or T-Mobile asked for this phone.. looks like this phone will never make it to US? That is a Bad news......

Hello Sundaram,
Thank you for your inquiry about the Touch Diamond 2.
We appreciate your inquiry about one of our new phones. Unfortunately, we do not remake our phones to work on a specific network, such as the AT&T 1900 band width, unless that carrier request us to make them that exact phone. If you do buy the Touch Diamond 2, we cannot guarantee 3G service since AT&T 3G band is 1900 while the Touch Diamond 2's 3G band is 2100.
I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.
Thanks for contacting HTC,

Subject: HTC Diamond2
Dear Sir/Madam,
I own a HTC TyTn II and HTC Fuze (ATT) and now planning to upgrade my smart phone to HTC Diamond 2. I am really impressed with this phone and ready to purchase one. I live in USA and have a question about the 3G band availability of HTC Diamond 2. The phone is available in many online stores but they all have a specification like below.
Operating Frequency:
HSDPA/WCDMA: Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
Does this mean that I cannot use this phone for ATT 3G networks in USA? Does HTC manufacture HTC Diamond 2 for US 3G band which I believe are 850/1900 MHz?
Is there any planned date of releasing HTC Diamond2 for ATT 3G networks? I appreciate your response.
Thanks
The Diamond 2 IS COMING TO THE US WITH 3G SUPPORT in a few months. Stop this nonsense please.

What makes you to visit this topic and through a comment like this? I was not asking "you" this.
Besides, I am not working at ATT or HTC but trying to see if any other member of this forum has any news about this. If you dont like this topic just dont visit it and try to change your attitude. Otherwise you will become a great looser (i guess you already are).

Clearly that is a pretty general statement that I believe most of us find to be true. That being said, do you have any more insight?
If it's coming to the US with 3G I would just assume that it would hit Sprint first so still no luck for AT&T. Didn't ATT just get the FUZE in like Dec? Anyways the phone most likely to hit US carriers is The Pro2. Americans generaly (IMO) like a full Hard qwerty keyboard.
This was floating around a few months ago

Shows the topaz going to AT&T. I'm not sure how valid it is though, but it's something to cling to
Even if it does come to AT&T, I hope we see the unlocked version well before. HTC used to be the one company we could count on to deliver US 3G on newer releases. Now we seem to be stuck playing the waiting game. The odd thing is they released the TYTN and such when the 3G network was barely rolled out, now that it at least covers all major cities, we cannot get any love.
I have been waiting a long time for this
Word is "HTC Topaz 210" (AT&T warhawk) will be released next month /(october) with the 850mHz UMTS "7201" chip (instead of the "7200" 900/2100 UMTS chip)
It will also be slightly smaller (1 mm less longer and wider)
I may drop around here if HTC beats the drum with this one
PS: sorry for resurrecting an ole thread, but we american users really miss good HTC 850mHz phones
I too am waiting for the US version of D2. gtrab, where did yo uget the info that US D2 will be slightly smaller. The latest info was from BG but I don't remember him mentioning any other spec except the obvious 850/1900 implementation.
Is this phone available in the US and if so, what network will it work on?
Thanks!
CC
No,
You can try to get HD model T8285 from telestra australia- say from e-bay which works on some of the US 3G bands. If you search this forum you will get tons of details on this
I use it on tmo usa, but of course it has no usa 3g at all. It is very snappy on edge tho and I'm having a very pleasent experience with it.
The Telestra HTC T8285 from Australia works wonderfully. I am very happy with it.
I have the Telestra HTC T8285 and it works great in my area. But it will only get 3G speeds on AT&T and then you have to be in a area supported by the 850 band. No 3G on Tmobile

is edge free?
Does the current HD2 that one can buy from various sources work on the ATT 3G network with a current ATT SIM card?
No, You will not get 3G. the current phones do not have the 850MHZ that ATT uses for 3G.
You have to wait till mid to end of this month when the phone is out with the 850MHZ.
Where is this info from? if this is true I will certainly be getting the hd2. Will it be 850/1900?
The phone will have 850MHZ.
I have been told it will should be out mid to end of this month in Australia.
I bought my HD from there and will be buying the HD2 as soon as it is out.

From HTC australia. It'll come out for the Telstra's NextG network which runs on 850/2100. Since AT&T is overhauling their 1900mhz tower for the much faster 850mhz, the 850/2100 Telstra version is very ideal.
i'm kinda afriad of buying the HTC HD2 that will come to the US in the Q1 of 2010.
I have one question about it ,,, if i bought it " US HD2 " ,, is it going to work outside the US and work with other carrier like the iPhone for example?

Ok let's clear some things up. The "US HD2" is the T-Mobile version. T-MOBILE. What does this mean? If you're with AT&T and bought the "US HD2"/TMobile version, you can talk but will be limited to EDGE for data...no 3G. The HD2 is a quadband phone so you can use it to talk all over the world. Notice that i bold only the word talk? You won't be able to get 3G outside of the US unless the country/carrier you're visiting has 1700/2100 UMTS/3G band (which most don't). So if you're visiting other countries, you can talk all you want, but will more than likely stuck with EDGE for data. Period.
So let's recap:
1) "US HD2" = T-Mobile USA version
2) Telstra NextG HD2 (australian) = compatible with AT&T 3G
3) HD2 is a quadband phone for voice. You can talk on pretty much any country.
4) HD2 is a dualband phone for UMTS/3G/data. You will be stuck with EDGE unless you have the correct band.
5) Tmobile sucks
6) ?????
7) PROFIT!

Not at the same time. To use a carrier's service (data or voice) you need a sim from that carrier. So to use at&t data you need an at&t sim; to use T-mo voice you need a T-mo sim. The HD2 is not a dual-sim phone, so you can only have one sim installed at a time, and therefore can only be using either at&t or T-mobile at any given time. You can swap sims if the phone is unlocked to use the other carrier's services. I have no idea if the Telstra HD2 will be unlocked or is unlockable...maybe someone who is using a Telstra HD in the USA can respond to that issue.
Hope this helps.
so i take it that T-mo and ATT use different frequencies for their 3g?

Yep,
T-mobile use 1700MHz 3G frequency in the USA when most of 3G compatible devices (at&t) run on 850/1900MHz 3G/HSDPA freqencies
Hi,
I am a new user and I hope I am in the right place.
I just came back from Sydney Australia, and while I was there I bought teh HTC HD2 phone. WHen I got it it had all the Telstra crap on it and It was useless for me since I have t-mobile.
After I bought, I updated the ROM to RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe
I had to use HSPL but I got it to work.
I just arrived to New York today and I could not wait to turn on the phone and see it in action. To my dispointment, I could not get 3G on it. The band and network are set to AUTO. The only thing I get is Edge.
I tried all manual bands and no luck
So then I tried to update the ROM to LEO_2.02.531.14_WWE_B28223\LEO_2.02.531.14_WWE_B28223
But it does not seem to work, no home screen just HTC and the windows start icon, phone and contacts appear on the bottom. Dont know whats wrong?? but perhaps some can shed some light.
Going back to ROM to RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe for now.
Just want to know if I am on the right path?? Will this phone I bought work with t-mobile 3g service?
and what ROM is the best for this HTC HD2 phone and how can I get it?
Any tips would be awesome !
Thanks

That phone will not work with US T-Mobile. Sell it on ebay and wait for the US T-Mo HD2.
T-Mobile uses the weird 1700/2100 UTMS bands in the US, and pretty much only phones made specifically for it will work.
Crap'po'la
I was afraid of that. so I can use it, just wont get 3G
So no ROMS would help right?
Is there A ROM that is better then what I have now? I have RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.66.405.2_Radio_Signed_15.30.50.07U_2.06.51.07_Ship.exe
Thanks
hey richsark ill take it off your hands
Hi, well... whats the offer? on a 3 day old phone??
pmed........
pmed............
Hi, The phone I bought straight from the Telstra shop was unlocked. I did put my SIM in it and it registers as TMobile but no 3G. ( I did this in the States) Over there in Sydney with my Tmobile SIM it was 3G !
My guess is the bands are not compatible. I am stuck with Edge I guess... unless there is a way to make it work
Thanks
TMobile will have a roaming agreement with Telstra which means while in Australia you will have connected to the Telstra 3G network using the 850MHz frequency, but as a "visitor". Once back in the US the TMobile network uses 1700MHz which the Telstra version of the HD2 won't work with.
I travel a fair bit to the US and UK for work so prior to the HD2 I had a 850/1900/2100 UMTS phone which covered me for AT&T in the US. Now that AT&T are moving to use 850 more widely the lack of 1900 won't be a problem and 2100 is used widely in the UK and Europe.
Please, is it possible to make the HTC magic (Tim version) work on AT&T 3G network? Right now, it can only work on EDGE...
Thanks!
I goolged around. Seems it is a hardware issue making European version Magic cannot work on AT&T 3G...
You should have gotten a Rogers HTC Magic from Canada. It can run perfectly on AT&T's 3G network.
Hi all,
I'm planning on going to Europe, specifically Amsterdam and Sweden, next year. Will my HD2 work in Europe? With data? (I realize I will have to buy a plan with an operator over there)
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Yes it will work with any GSM provider worldwide, so long as you SIM unlock it. Todo so, either call T-Mobile if you are a customer, or go online and find a site that SIM does SIM unlocks, such as http://www.htcunlock.com and pay them to do it(around 15USD). And as far as data is concerned, you will get EDGE and GPRS only in Europe with the TMO US HD2 as the 3G bands are different.
Ah good My phone is already unlocked so I'm straight on that front. Going without 3G is no problem, I'm glad it'll work with EDGE.
thanks for the reply!
Correction: the TMOUS HD2 will work on 3G in Europe.
HTC clearly says 1700/2100. 2100 is Band I for Europe. 1700 is Band IV for T-Mobile.
