Default Android keyboard and dialer? - myTouch 3G, Magic General

Hi!
I recently got a HTC Magic. The only thing that bothers me is the "iPhone-ish" skin on the keyboard and dialer.
Is there any way I can get the default Android keyboard and dialer? I would rather not root the device, but if I have to, I'll do it.
Thanks.

I'm also interested on how to get rid of the HTC Dialer. The keyboard's OK, but I don't like that their own dialer practically split apart the dialing stuff from the contact list and call log.

I would like to know how to uninstall the HTC Dialer too!

you dont uninstall stuff.
you get a new app that does the same thing and set that as default app for the that function

use the keyboard for smart dialler

a great thing to do with the universal in my opinion is that when your in the phone layout, ou can use the keyboard keys a=z to get our contact, much like you can with contacts.
Through Smart-Dialler?
I've forgot how to turn it off; any ideas?
I really don't know if it is possible to use the hardware keyboard with the generic smart dialer. However as an alternative there is a program by the name of Imaginet FingerClix. This is also a smart dialer with added functionality to send SMS as well. This program can be configured to use the hardware keyboard to search ad dial contacts.
A great program and recommended

[Q] Keyboard swapping?

How do i change the keyboard in android? What are the files to replace?
Does anybody know how to replace the Desire HD (sense build: 1.24.405.1) keyboard with the original Desire keyboard that doesnt have all the arrows?
does anybody have any custom keyboards that they want to post in this thread for us to try out?
Download Ultra keyboard. Pay from market.
i like the one from the original desire builds, original sense from froyo.
where would i get that file?
I personally use "smart keyboard pro" love its responsiveness and u can choose between skins and keyboard sounds.."better keyboard" is also a good choice...

If youre using a build with sense and just want the stock android keyboard all you have to do is uninstall the "Touch Input" application. I used an app killer to kill the HTC touch input process and discovered that it killed the HTC keyboard, so after that I just uninstalled it. The stock one is so much better for me, seems more accurate with autocorrect and I can actually hit the keys for once.

Just make sure you copy any file you are about to delete before you delete them, just incase.
I'm using the mattc 1.8 Sense build. Here is an easy way to change the keyboard.
How it's done:
Go to messages and create a new message.
Click in the input field and stay there with your finger at least some seconds.
A popup will appear with the possibility to go to the input method or something like that (sorry, I'm using my build in German )
Here you can choose if you want to have the Sense or the original Android keyboard layout.
Edit: Sorry if it isn't what you were asking for, I'm not sure.

[Q] Custom Roms dial pad

Is there any way, how to get on CM7 rom same dialpad, as it is in original 1.6 ?
I mean when u open ur call log, u can start typing eather name, or number, and it automaticly searches your contacts for name/surname/number ? Its rly good thing and missing in cm7
You cannot have the original one, but some applications have the same features
Try Dialer One
Or u can try Touch pal dialer.
Both are ok.
installed dialer one, looks ok, tnx
If wont like gonna try touch pal dialer

Great, I also use Touchpal.
Try Go contacts. It isn't the original one, butt it does look very nice.
Try ray dialer
It looks nice and it searches both numbers and names

Default Tab in Dialer App

Hello Everybody
I was using a different android mobile phone with stock Android dialer.
I have configured the stock android dialer to always default to Dialer Tab.
I have got Motorola Droid Pro couple of days back.
I want to dial numbers using Motorola Droid's keyboard without ensuring the calling application is accepting my inputs correctly or not.
So i want to configure the Motorola Droid Pro's Dialer too to default to Dialer Tab.
How to do that?
I don't want to create a shortcut in the homescreen for the dialer tab, because i can't associate the shortcut to hardware keys.
Or is there any dialer app in the Android Market to accept numbers only.
Most of the dialer apps shows alphabets when i enter something in the Droid Pro's keyboard.

Different phone/dialer apps

Hi
I am using 2.3.4 through Gingerbread V3
Wondering if you can install a different dialer, maybe there is a thread somewhere with dialers.
Why?
Because this one does not search my contacts for the letters entered on the dialer, very annoying.
Thanks for any help, tried asking in q&a, but no help, so giving it a try here, just in case.
I had the GO dialer as it was the only one I could see that had a landscape mode, seemed to work we'll, although not sure how deep it's search was.

The problem with GO dialer is that it does not support æ ø & å, there is no support for my langauge.
I'm wondering, how come this feature has been removed in the newer versions of android.
As i see Gingerbread V3, it's just a stock android 2.3.4 with tweaks and stuff.
Touchpal dialer is the best.
I tried touchpal dialer and Dialer One... Touchpal is the best for me
aTakephone dialer, from very start... i tried lots of roms but allways using this dialer app.
Touchpal looks nice, but does not come in Danish.
on the + side, it does support æ ø & å.
