I just got my replacement G1 back from Tmobile and it came with 1.1. My wife accidetally updated to 1.51 Cupcake (official TMO). Will I run into any issues if I root my phone following the old school directions? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480 and I am now on build number CRB43
You should not run into any problems following those directions. The only thing that I recommend is that if you want the 1.51 Rom, install the 1.51 rom that you desire that will not loose root, for example the jesusfreke roms, instead of the roms listed at the bottom of the first post (1.1 or RC33).
Im tired and its late, but hopefully I didnt confuse you with anything.

Ok well i beleive i am pretty outdated here. i first rooted my device when it became available (used goldcard method) took me for ever but i did along with changing the radio from the perfected SPL.
currently as it sits my Recovry image is Build RAv1.2.1G
my SPL also is 1.33.2005 (SAPP30000)
Radio - 2.22.19.26I
the latest Cyanogen Rom i have flashed is the 1.6 donut right before he had to stop putting inthe Google apps 4.11 i beleive.
currently i have a Hero Rom on it and its ok but im geting very excited for the new Eclair 2.0 coming out soon and i would like to get up to date so that when it does become available i can start flashing that as well.
i know its not a good idea to ask stuff like this in the Developer forum so thats why i put this in here.
i have no idea how out of date i am in regrds to Recovery image version, how people now flash Cyanogens new ROMS (as in what steps they take now) and if i even still have the most current Radio.
can anyone please bring me up to speed? i have been so caught up in other things like work and photography (my other hobby) that i havent been able to keep up with the advancements lately)
your recovery is a couple of versions out of date, check the changelog but it shouldn't be a big deal. i flashed my first rom with 1.2.1 as well
cyano has posted a howto in the dev forum on his new rom thread, but essentially you fastboot to recovery, wipe your phone, flash the official htc donut image (which includes licensed google apps) then DO NOT BOOT and flash cyano's rom over the top of that
So yesterday i decided to root my HTC magic 1.2 (my touch 3.55mm jack)
Root went well (had a small problem finding the correct sappimg but i found it,
Got Ra's recovery working as well and flashed an allmost stock fender rom/w root.
worked with no problems.
wanted to try 2.1 (eclair i think) So i flashed a str0kes rom. went easy looked cool but was too buggy for me (no usb teather! or wireless teather! or BT)
so then i wanted to try CM and i've had alot of trouble trying to understand the steps for flashing this rom, i was able to get it running (touch screen and all) but it was very slow
what i had try to do was just flash the cm mod update. (hell it worked)
then i came accross this
[Rom][32a][3.22] CyanogenMod 5.0.7-Stable Eclair 2.1 (05/28/2010) Mod Revision-2
Witch sounded awesome
I had no idea how to downgrade(i think i got close?!)
Or what i really had to do, i was able to get to the andriod screen but it hung right there. i tryed flashing the downgraded spl and rom but it refused to boot passed HTC magic screen. tryed flashing a diffrent radio and spl and it bricked (update fail ) so i have a new one on the way and my buddys to pratice on.
Can anyone help me/ explain to me how to install the oc'd rom?
Thanks in advance and sorry for you're time
If you would read, you'd notice that the newest release from Cyanogen himself says it will work with myTouch 1.2. You need the kernel for 32A, the ROM, and the Google add on. Flash them in that order and your good to go. I've been running it on a myTouch 1.2 that I rooted using instructions from unlockr and here and it works perfect.
I can't post a link, but the thread in under Dream development as Lean Mean Pastry Machine.
BTW, I would not recommend running 5.0.7 OC. 528 was FAST... Super D fast.
WEll i fugred out what lead to the bricking of my phone. apparently the downgrade guide i followed was for the older 32A models.... Dang...
So after rooting with a gold card i should flash the 32A kernel via ra's recovery then flash the cm mod?
(how do i install the google apps?)
I may try this out soon on my other my touch (brrowed my dads lol..till monday when my new one gets to me!)
The unlockrs guide was helpful, i pretty much memorized the rooting process
-creategold card
- transfer sappimg
update via hboot.
Flash radio and spl for touch screen.
Then flash amon ra's recoery rom correct?
After that i should boot into recovery flash the kernel then cm mod? should i reboot back to recovery after wards?
So can anyone hook me up with a little instruction?
Mod. edit: not dev related, moved to general

i am trying to figure out how to install this rom on my g1 it is freshly rooted g1, i had instructions for installing rom and google addons but lost page.. can anyone plase tell me where a good guide for installing this rom is? thanks
All the info you need is here:
http://theunlockr.com/category/howto/android_how_tos/htc-g1-dream-how-tos/
Or in XDA Forums. If you are rooted you are half way there, also check your SPL (you need DangerSPL).
Good luck.
To keep it simple I would just flash one of the kangs of it like cannon202's CompleteEclair 2.2. I recommend this because this rom does not require DANGER spl. Download it HERE, put it on your sdcard, turn the phone off and apply the update and the gapps.
Alright, so I updated my phone with the official 2.1 android update from sprint, then rooted it. I hate 2.1 and my phone runs like complete crap. I even tried to re-flash it after doing a hard reset, that didn't help. I am very new to android phones, but learn fast. I downloaded the initial release ruu from sprint which has android 1.5 but can't simply run that to flash back to a 1.5 rom because it gives some type of error about not being able to update the boot loader or something. I gather that I need to get the original 1.5 rom in .zip form somewhere and then flash that rom using the menu at the phones boot up to get back to a 1.5 rom. Can someone tell me what I need to download, and the steps to do so? Also is there any 1.5 roms that are nearly identical to sprints stock rom but that have tethering enabled? Thanks guys!!
- Mike
I would like to know this also as 2.1 runs like garbage I think and 1.5 at least worked for me and wasnt so buggy. I am not happy wih 2.1 at all. Also I really want my tethering back.
Pick a 1.5 ROM like Pancake or Gumbo and install it. The list of 1.5 ROMS can be found in the XDA Hero CDMA Wiki
Which Rom is closest to stock? Know where I could find stock 1.5?
Im going to say Gumbo ROM 1.5c FULL but I could be wrong. I am going to wait and see what some more experienced member/s have to say. For now I deal with this rooted 2.1.
You can not go back to 1.5 after running the 2.1 RUU. The hboot in 2.1 has a higher version and you can not downgrade below the version currently on your phone. The only thing to do is install a 1.5 ROM..
Just look in the Wiki, there are several 1.5 ROMs.
Before I went to 2.1 ROM's I used Gumbo 1.5c Bare. FAST as the wind...but there is the FULL version also, that has all the sprint apps.
Both here.....Flash them and see which you like better.

I am currently running Fresh 2.1.1 and it is amazing, everything works and its FAST! You might want to try this one also:

Good luck.
Soo back in Novmember I got my G2 and my wife got a MT4G, I rooted both using gfree 0.3 and everything was fine.
My son got a MT4G in February and said he didn't want to bother ti root until CM7 final was released and ready to go. Now that it's out and ready I'm planning on rooting and installing CM7 this week.
I was reviewing the G2 section on the wiki and it looks like it's using gfree version 0.5 now, there isn't a lot of meat to the MT4G section of the wiki, mostly looks like links to threads with guides that haven't been updated recently.
I tried searching and was unable to find out what's changed in gfree 0.5 though I did find some reference to issues with gfree 0.4 and the MT4G with certain radios (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1008125)
Not sure who developed gfree or if he has a web site or if there's anywhere else I can find a change log.
I could always use gfree 0.3 and the original method to root, it worked once, but if there are any fixes in 0.5 that make it a better choice I'd like to know that too.
I know that gfree was originally written for the G2 but since I'm talking specifically about a MT4G this it the obvious appropriate place to ask.
Thanks in advance
I would just stick to the old version honestly..I rooted 2 brand new phones 3 weeks ago with the old version that was still saved on my laptop and it worked out fine.
FYI I tried v 0.3 and it did not work (did not power cycle eMMC), same result with 0.4, finally failed back 0.2 and it did work.
