Rogers will soon be offering all dream owners a free upgrade to the Magic. Due to Rogers pushing out a android 2.1 update to the magic in the comming months and the dream receiving no such update, rogers will be allowing dream users to trade in for a free magic.
http://www.teleclick.ca/2010/01/rogers-wireless-lets-htc-dream-users-upgrade-to-htc-magic/
dont know about you guys but i think im going to take advantage of this deal to get the added ram the magic has. i will miss more hard keyboard though...
That is definitely a downgrade.
No keyboard = no good.
It's a step in the right direction but don't get too excited.
The Magic and the Dream came out at the same time for Rogers and most of us knew the Magic had more ram but we still took the Dream because of the keyboard.
Also don't forget that Rogers has a policy that you can't get HUP from them in the first 2 years of your contract with a smartphone. Now obviously they are going to tweek this to allow us to "upgrade" to the Magic but it will surely come with a contract extension, which mean you'll be tied for another 2 years before you can upgrade again. Lets also not forget that the Magic has the same slow arse processor the Dream does. Do you really want to be stuck on the Qualcomm® MSM7201A 528MHz processor for another 2 years ?
I'd be much more willing to spend a few bucks and get a real phone. You know if the Rogers had the Milestone or the Nexus One.
I personally don't have any issue with the CPU on DREAM.
It *IS* a phone....
I would NEVER give up the keyboard though. Even for a GN1.
Those rumors of the "enterprise edition" of the GN1 with a keyboard sound nice....
Yeah the keyboard is a must! I have had alot of HTC devices in the past with no keys, so I finally got the dream a few months back and so far I am loving it, and the update doesnt really matter to me once my 2 year is done I will get a new device.

Well I did the free upgrade. I was 7 months into my 3 year contract so I had to renew for 3 years and my HUP credit gets reset to the full 3 years but I figured I couldn't pass it up.
Question is do I keep both phones or do I sell the Magic brand new, or do I jump ship and sell the Dream and hold onto the Magic for a little while?
dont know why you had to re-sign for 3 years... i sweet talked the rogers agent and stayed on my existing contract (2years 7months) as well as i didnt have my HUP change...
mabey its because im a stunningly good looking guy.. who knows
Well everyone I wouldn't worry too much about the 2 yrs before you get another HUP (Hardware Upgrade) there are big changes coming to the program!!
Imagine a HUP for the cost of a new activation, unheard of right? Welcome to the new Rogers, yes there will still be a 2 or 3 yr commitment required in order to get that new HUP, but instead of paying $199 for a new phone, it will be as if you walked in off the street and signed up!!
Lot's more new stuff coming out in the future, so stay tuned!!!
Forgot to mention the deal is only available till end of this month. Also you get to keep your dream. Free phone, can sell your old one if you want, its stupid to not take advantage of this deal, unless you bought the dream when it first came out.
I called in to see if I could get this upgrade, but they said that I was not eligible because I have not had the account for two years. Is this correct, do you have to have been with rogers for over two years to get this upgrade?
Call them back and tell them that the offer is new and they can ask for help if they need to. The 2yr HUP term has been waived for this offer and it is available for those that have gotten their phone either through a hardware upgrade or through a new activation between Jan 1st 2009 and Dec 31st 2009
I called them today and the customer rep explain to me that only different will be that there a keyboard (like they didn't wanted me to upgrade), I just listen to them and got the phone approved everything waived off, there some people on the internet mentioning that there a 50$ there isn't, you only get the 50$ once you renew your contract, but they made a exception for this HUP. @beav_35, if you mention hardware upgrade they wont let you do that, explain to them of the specific Dream to Magic upgrade.
Just have a HUP 30 Dec. 2009 (Dream) now upgraded again to (Magic) for $0.00 just and additional one (1) month extension to my current 3-year term. pls $50 rebate.

I said the same until I actually got the N1 and used the soft keyboard. The phone is snappy and responsive enough, and the screen is large enough that the soft keyboard is actually easier for me to type on than the physical keyboard on my now retired G1.
You really should try it out physically before you decide, but yeah the N1EE may make me eat my words (if they don't significantly increase the size of the phone to add the keyboard (but I'm guessing it will be back to roughly the same size as the G1).
On another note, I'm really wishing T-Mobile would do the same, at least a G1 to refurb MyTouch upgrade. Would make my wife worlds happier.
Isn't that complete bull****? I'm running 1.6 on my Rogers dream now from Cyanogen.
ALSO can I get this upgrade? I don't have a contract with Rogers. I bought my Rogers dream from ebay and use it on Bell?

oh yeah and all of those phones i owned were within a years time!
ive had some bad luck!
Let's see... In order of acquisition:
LG CU2000 (Cingular)
Sony Ericsson W810i (debranded, unlocked, and custom firmware, also on Cingular)
Samsung Eternity (AT&T)
Samsung Impression (exchanged the Eternity for it because the Eternity wasn't as good... also AT&T)

Samsung in-stink
Blackberry 8330
Touch diamond
Touch pro
Palm pre
Touch pro 2
Finally the hero......... to be continued
Motorola RAZR (T-Mobile) - i loved that phone!!but needed an upgrade!!
Sidekick 3 (T-Mobile) - I think it was the best sidekick evar!
Sidekick iD (T-Mobile) - Crappy...didnt even last a year with it
G1 ( T-Mobile) - That was my baby!! i miss it sometimes but i couldnt stand T-Mobile service in area
HTC Hero (Sprint) - Better phone, better service provider! not changing it till i see another android phone worth it!
well ive owned a ton of other phones too but i can't rememebr them all.
my next upgrade will be the nexus if it comes to sprint or the supersonic.
The ones I can remember are Treo 650 then using Sprint's insurance got the Treo 700 and same way got 755p. Now I have the Hero.....
sidekick 1
sidekick 2
sidekick 3
iphone
blackberry 8330
htc hero
LG PM-225 in silver
Samsung Upstage in Black (didn't last 6 months
Blackberry 8703e
Blackberry Curve 8330
HTC Hero.
The Hero by far is the best phone I've owned. Only thing I miss from the blackberries is push email across all 3 emails that I had.

I got the tp2 and loved that phone(it was awesome) but 3 days later the hero came out and there was enough hype for me to trade in the tp2. After a few days I felt Android was boring so I booted the hero and got the tp2 again. A month later I final came to terms with winmo and realized I had to go back to the hero as android was the ishhhh. Lol ( you don't know what ya got till its gone) Now I got the hero again and don't see any reason why I should be leaving Android again
my phone
i owned
sprint instinct 4 months
iphone 1 year
iphone 3g 1 year
iphone 3GS 1 year
sprint hero 2 months
My issue was with winmo because I got sick and tired of flashing (flashaholic) and the OS never truly got better no matter what the build. I thought if I was to stick with android I wouldn't need to do that because from right after switching Android seemed perfect but yet I'm flashing again (facepalm) lol
(Virgin Mobile) Audiovox Flasher - 4 Years (this was during high school when I didn't really care for phones.)
Samsung Rant - 5 Months
iPhone 3G - 5 Months
HTC Hero - At the 5 Month mark again and I'm craving something far more powerful like the Supersonic.
hmm.. i've had a lot of phones i cant even remember them all in order haha
i've had...
iphone
iphone 3gs
blackberry pearl flip
samsung omnia
and some others i cant remember haha
Hey all, I just ordered my HD2 from T-Mobile, and I found this promo code that onle works once. If you want the online pricing for online T-Mobile orders, or orders over the phone use this code:
HD2FORU
I can confirm it works.
Enjoy! Please post a success or failure post when you use it, if it doesn't work online try it over the phone!
Also, use this code fast, I have no idea if it expires soon. I saw it on a forum, a guy said he got this in the mail.
Man waiting for this phone is going to kill me lol.
Ha welcome to the HD2. I remember waiting for my two HD2 and usually UPS comes before 1 at my house and he didn't come til 4, Just think of how horrible those three hours were
Good find on the promo code btw. I got both of my HD2 for 200 all together.
So you used it for 2 purchases? That's great!
I am not sure when the UPS guy delivers at my aunts house. So I will have to wait twice as long, AHHHH lol.
I got 2 HD2 for free from a corperate kiosk in the mall

nope they had buy one get one free. so they charged 100 per HD2. When you get it you need to put a custom rom on it. without the custom rom you'll be miserable. I am using the Energy Rom which works perfect.

Oh of course, I've been in the WM game for a loooongg time. That was the reason I joined XDA . I went to android (G1 then broke a few months later), and now I've been waiting to get a new phone since.

Yeah I've owned the G1 three times.
I've owned my share phones so I am pretty good at software on most phones.
Blackberry's Owned: 8100(pearl), 8320(curve) 8900(CurveII) 9530 (Storm1) 9700 (Bold II) 8520 ( Curve)
HTC: G1, Mytouch, Touch pro2, Fuze, HD2, Tilt 2
Apple: iPhone 2G , iPhone 3G
Motorola: Cliq, Cliq xt
LG: Voyager, Chocolate 1, Chocolate 2
Sidekick: LX, Slide
Ha so as you can I have had my fair share of phones and I can honestly say I'm loving the HD2 but I believe I will be trying out the iPhone 4 because of the new features
My phone history started with dumb phones(Naturally because I was 8 years old when I got my first phone. . .), then my first smart phone was the Samsung SGH-i607(Blackjack on at&t), then from there I've had my share of phones.

Basically before 2007, I owned feature phones.
If I could bring the thread back to the original subject, I placed my order for my HD2 last night and tried using the code. No luck, just kicked back an error saying it was invalid. So,

You didn't try calling in did you? I underlined it and made it in bold. . .
I was planning to buy myself a phone and was all week browsing the net trying to find my self the best phone i could have.YouTube was the perfect site for me to browse. That time, Iphone 4 was not yet release so the best phone as i can see was Iphone 3GS because it's the only phone available that i can buy here in our country (Philippines) at that particular time.So i made the decision and bought the Iphone 3GS. I came home and was so excited to use the phone. Using the phone (Iphone 3GS) for about 3 hours drained the battery and made me upset and realized that i should send it back to the vendor. At 11am the other day at the mall where i bought the phone, explaining myself to the manager the reason why am i returning the phone. As the story goes, he then introduce me to this one phone called HTC HD2. HTC HD2? My mind went blank because i have no idea about the phone. And the manager explain that the phone was in European language so it made me think if i should swap phone. With a doubt, i swap my Iphone 3GS to HTC HD2.Going back home with a big doubt i was thinking, what will i do to the phone for it has a European language. At home, i went straight to my PC and search about HTC hD2.Searching led me to XDA and found out that there's so many things (Applications, Roms and the community) that i can do on HTC HD2. Today, as i reminisce my experience with my HD2.It always makes me say I'm glad i made that freakin decision because right now I'm a proud owner of an HTC HD2 and a proud member of XDA.
Just sharing my own story to show how happy i am right now with my HD2 and with the XDA community. What's your story?
Well the time is nearly here to retire my HD2, just ordered a nice new HTC one X due to be delivered april 5th.

The phone also has a brand new screen fitted by HTC under warantee. The original started to fail to respond so replaced under warantee.
Got the original box, charger, 8gb sdcard + the paperwork stating the screen was changed by offical HTC repair center.
why dont u keep the fone, they are getting harder to find in mint condition.. dont forget to delete the sms_registry and the SMS log if on 6.5 and u sell it
i found some highly sensitive sms on my T.M HTC HD2 when i bought mine from previous owner
This should be posted in the Marketplace section found here.
On a side note I bought a new phone as well about a month or two ago, the HTC MyTouch 4G Slide.
This phone for me has great specs. Dual-core, slide out keyboard and what a lot of people say is the
best camera ever put on a cell phone (same as Amaze 4G if i'm not mistaken). Well anyway I've used
my new phone a total of 3-4 times in the past several weeks. I just can't for the life of me let my HD2 go.

I hear you In fact, I am after a motherboard to assemble second HD2 I have in bits waiting to be fired up. I play with lots of various latest models and as much as I liked Galaxy SII, especially in terms of camera and general speed, I will not be parting with my HD2 any time soon. I feel tempted by One X though...
I'll admit the specs on the HTC One look pretty great and would love the phone myself as well. I would need to see how big the screen is though. I came from the two smaller phones to the HD2 and it took some getting use to in my pocket. Infact for the first few days it felt more like a small book in my pocket then a phone. Since the HTC One is close to a half inch larger i would need to play around with it before buying.
I don't know what's next for me. anything with hardware capable of lasting as long as the hd2
HTC one X - this will be another popular thread in XDA & HD2 will be heading to the Legacy department
...but i wil still keep my HD2 untill the day it dies
Keep as a back up. Hd2 is a legend
