Radio: Band Selection ? Issues with Data Connections - XPERIA X1 General

Does anyone have similar experiences.
- I forced GSM but AUTO for the band.
After I reboot the X1 data connection work immediately, means it starts connecting the G/E (you know the arrows moving arrond for few seconds and than connected). After a while it automatically disconnects. Fine.
But after a few hours the X1 is not able to connect anymore, arrows move arround like crazy for making the connection, but it stops without success.
REboot again, and immediately after trying to connect (and a few seconds of arrows moving in both direction in taskbar) the connection is UP.
I now changed the Band from AUTO to European 900+1800Mhz and it seams to work for the last few hours.
Did anybody else have similar observation?
Thanks for your feedback!

Yes i had same problem with some custom roms but not in orginal rom.If you having problem choose your band manual not auto.Cheers

just out of couriosity:
what makes your x1 build up a data connection right at the beginnig?
(european too here, never had any issues with stock or cooked roms)

change your radio, I had the same problem with X1i and 1.14 and had to go back to 1.06, now i am using 1.10 but i cant use 1.14 neither 1.11..

Thanks all for you feedback. wanted to let you know that after a day it has not been the manual band selection to make "starting connections" working stable. again, as soon as I want to e.g. send/receive emails it start trying to connect (you know arrows both directions until you see E or G in signal bar) but does the same stupid thing as before....giving up after 30 seconds with no success. Reboot and everything works fine.....
Regards
Norbert

Is there anybody with similar observations?
Its really annoying, after some hours only reboot makes internet connection work fine.

GPRS Stops Working

Traded up(?) to the Niki from a Tornado, I use push email from the works exchange server, over Vodafone contract GPRS, the Tornado was always great for this.
Setup the Niki with the same GPRS settings, when I turn it on everything works, push email, internet browsing etc. After a while it stops working, can't sync, can't browse the web, or even get a weather update. Though it still says it's got a good GPRS connection.
Switch off and back on and it all works again for a short while, then same again.
I've even flashed wioth Tom's ROM to see if that improved things, still the same.
Stoping and starting the GPRS connection doesn't help.
Proxy, DNS, other issue ?
Any ideas ?
I have the same problem. The only way to restore it in my experience is by activating 3G in the comms manager (or restarting). From there the phone will log off from the data connection and log back on again. From the searching I've done it seems to be a problem related to WM6. I also use push mail and, when this happens, it's very annoying. Haven't found a solution yet. I've tried an alternate DNS address (still nothing), I've tried upgrading the radio to a Kaiser ROM (same problem), and I've tried using Toms ROM (still the same problem). I was hoping that upgrading the radio ROM would solve it, but it hasn't. I'm going to try and have the phone on 3G all day and see if it drops out of connection. If it doesn't then that would indicate some problem with the GPRS side of WM. I don't think it's a setting thing, but I could be wrong. I wish I could find a solution though because I'm considering moving to an N95 8Gb...
I have the same issue,
see my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=374226
but with no reply...
When it occurs I can switch off the phone part (plane mode), but I can't switch back on, it stucks to plane mode... I've to shutdown the device to be able to restart a good data connection.
Maybe a WM6 bug... or radio rom issue .. I dunno
Thanks both,
I've changed the radio rom to this one, RUU Nike Radio 1.64.08.21K , which is a hacked Kaiser one, seems a bit better, still a low signal, but quicker reconection, and the GPRS stays up longer.
Vodafone UK
Tom's Rom
RUU Nike Radio 1.64.08.21K
Cheers.
GPRS connectivity issue
Same issue here. Push mail, GPRS, internet stops working after a while. Sometimes it works for a day or less. I place it into plane mode and then turn off plane mode. and it usually works. Sometimes i have to reboot the whole thing, but not very often.
The display still shows G in the top box, but doesn't work.
Anyone have any fixes, or suggestions...
OMG, didn't know that this is a common problem.
Waiting for the SE XPERIA X1.

Sudden issues with internet connectivity.

So to start with, I did use search
I have my HD with T-Mobile. Everything was working fine for months, until a few days ago.
I'm able to connect to the internet, however after 1-2 seconds, it seems like my phone stops sending/recieving data. Internet connection is still listed as active, yet the pages won't load etc, hitting refresh doesn't do anything.
Worth noting, most of the time, I don't get any errors in Opera, it just stops loading a page after 1-2 seconds. (It's the same with IE and every other online app) Sometimes I get 'ERROR - Could not locate remote server' in Opera.
Internet works fine over WLAN.
I can't link it to any software/rom. When it first happened, I've used Duttys 2.5, now switched to 2.9 and the problem persists. Also tried different Radios, different connection settings etc.
Any ideas ?

Maybe it's a network issue. Do you have a sim card for another network you could try?

Yeah, I tried. Same thing.
Any more ideas?
It's really wired, I rolled back to old HTC stock rom (still the same issue), installed stock 1.56 again ... and it's working. I have no idea what was the issue, especially considering how many times I've flashed it before and it was always there.
Oh well, I'm happy
Scratch that, forgot that the HD uses my PCs connection when plugged in.
So, it still doesn't work. Think I'll write to HTC, or is there anything else I could try doing?
Have you tried calling someone when you have the problems? After a couple of weeks-months a lot of people seem to have connectivity problems. I've sent mine back and hope to have it back soon!
I have this problem all the time for a week now. Everything but 3G internet works fine.
I did install SPB Wireless monitor yesterday, to check how is the data transfer.
Running the browser, hitting refresh each time, downloaded about 2KB of data (on average). (Same on both, 3 and T-Mobile)
Then, I've left youtube app and browser on - after about 40 minutes, it managed to download most of the youtube app start page and most of one of the pages I've opened with the browser. Data rate was highly random, often not downloading anything for a couple of minutes. In total, it was about 1.1 MB.
Then, after those 40 minutes - it didn't download anything any more for another hour or so. After that (the connection was still active), I've refreshed the browser and tried to load a different tab in youtube app, but for another hour or so no data was transferred.
did you install a new radio? and ifso did you also install the corosponding rilphone.dll?? maybe you can use hd tweak and set the data connection you use to always on. this works fine for me
Yeah, I tried a few radios (with dlls). Didn't help.
Data connection stays on, for hours. (without tweaking, which I find kind of strange).
As I said before, it's not an issue with disconnecting. Connection stays on, yet data is not being downloaded properly.
which data plan are you using?
Also can you navigate here and see if this is like your problem (post 22 and down):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=479403&page=3
Thanks
It's web'n'walk. (uk)
However, it's certainly not an issue with t-mobile, as it works exactly the same on '3' as well.
I'm running out of ideas here really. Seems like no one so far (including HTC tech support) had the same issue.
I think the only possibility is, that it is hardware related somehow.
Hi Volw, did you find a fix for this? This is happening to my bosses phone.
Hi... is it my impression or is you Touch HD's behaviour similar to this ?
Sorry for the link, but didn't want to repost...
I think you're not alone!
Have you tried a hard reset? In my case it solved until I disconnected from my home network again!
I hope I can help (so little) in detect the specific circumstances in which the error occurs....
My solution, since I had mine for less than 30 days was going to the shop where I bought mine, swaped for a brand new one and I kept for the firmware that came from factory... didn't flash for the current official rom (cooked roms are out of the question for now - with all do respect) and I'm very very reluctant in flashing my new TouchHD. I even flashed the first unit twice but I kept having the same problem.
Now I'm affraid of flashing this one and going back to the shop with a second phone in the same condition...
Still with the installed firmware from factory (previous from the current oficial) I still get a few minutes for it to "see" the active HSDPA connection after disconnecting Wifi!
Sorry if i deviated a bit from subject... just trying to help.
Regards,
MD
I have exactly the same issue. I've had my HD for about 6 weeks and the Wifi has always worked fine with my home network. But then suddenly one day last week it stopped working.
It's still connected, but no data is being transferred. I can't update the weather or browse the web.
I've tried playing with all the settings and connected to my neigbours unsecured wifi network, but still nothing works.
This is particularly annoying because data is not part of my contract, so wifi was my only way downloading files, updating things etc.
Anyone had any luck solving the issue yet?

Hi guys, I had exact the same problem.
I'm on O2 Germany network and figured out, that when disabling HSDPA and only using 3G I never had that problem anymore.
I mean although I had full HSDPA connection, Opera was sometimes able to load the Websites, but most of the time the loading failed (mostly the first page load was ok, but all other calls ended in a blank screen, or the "Could not locate remote server"...). This is pretty strange and I would love to use the HSDPA connection again, but for now disabling HSDPA is the only solution for me

EDIT: I had this behaviour with the stock ROM and also with Dutty's V3.3 which I'm running right now. What I was thinking is, that maybe the auto switching between GPRS/3G/HSDPA is damaging the connection???
HTC HD / Blackstone connection issue
I have the same problem in SG - Opera does not load web page some times, even when the 3G/HSDPA icon is flashing on the top bar, and that the Data Connection in CommMgr is showing green.
I have to click on the Data Connection in CommMgr again (which will not go off), and the connection back up again.
These happen to other internect connectivity as well. Usually happen in the first connection (of each app) to the internet after I restart the phone.

Are connection delays normal?

I am a relatively new HD2 user (just a few weeks) and I need to ask other users to know what is "normal" with the HD2.
Brief background. My HD2 shipped with 1.48. I flashed to 1.66 via HSPL, used it for a couple of weeks of perfect normal function. No connection issues, but the 1.66 ROM lacks much over Dutty's HG v.08, so I flashed to Dutty's hard reset, and then my service provider began having problems with the data network.
I am not sure what is normal for connection. When I connect via EDGE, the "E" is solid, and there is a smaller "E" in the upper right of the notification area for connections. When I cannot connect the larger "E" is grayed out/dim and the area where the small "E" would be on connection is replaced with a standard connection tower icon. In this scenario, no connection takes place.
If I go to the Wireless controls, the "Data" connection is dimmed in this event, and if I try to connect, it will give me an attempt, with double arrows, and then fail. i assume this is normal when the network is not functioning properly?
I am on a mixed network, where some areas have 3G and others have only EDGE. Should I leave the 3G switch on "Automatic" (on) or should I stay on GSM?
Normally once I get connected, if I restart, or soft-reset, the connection will be lost, and I will have to go through the process again...after some minutes (10 or so) the phone will often connect to EDGE, with the large "E" and smaller "E" and I always have all the bars, so I am sure the signal is strong.
Is this just my network, or I am I doing something wrong?
Should my phone automatically connect to my data connection on startup?
I apologize If this seems rambling. I just do not know what is normal. Coming form Symbian, my other phones always connected to my data connection on startup without being asked to do so.
I want to rule out any possible ROM issues, because I do not THINK it is related to Dutty's ROM, because I have had it work normally sometimes. What do you think?
It won't connect by itself after a reboot, but it will as soon as a program tries to get something from the internet.
The "large" logo shows the connection is available, but not connected. Once the "small" logo appears, it's connected.

In this case, is the large "E" gray in the notification area, with a small tower on the right side of it?
The solid E with tower is what I said, EDGE available but not connected. Now to the "grey" one... good question. I've seen it too, but when I do and try to connect it instantly becomes solid and connects.

Problems with using S200 as a 3G Modem?

Hi!
Does anyone have issues using the S200 as a 3G modem?
The specific problem I am having is as follows:
I can establish a connection (either via USB connection + Internet sharing; or by Wifi Router) and the internet works (on HSPA or EDGE/GPRS depending on coverage - and accordingly there is indication of "H" "E" or "G")
But sometimes the connection just dries up... on Windows, the icon that says I have a connection (the roundish one for USB, or the wifi single bars for Wifi) gets an exclamation bar which means "no internet"
If this happens, very rarely it fixes itself (I think this happens when the phone drops the internet connection after timeout for non-usage and is able to recover the connection; but I'm not sure). But sometimes the problem occurs even in the middle of a download...
And most of the time, I have to soft reset to restore connectivity (removing and reconnecting via USB, or stopping/starting WifiRouter doesn't help).
This could possibly be an issue with my provider (but, on regular 3G modems this problem hardly ever occurs at all; but happens generally at least 1/day with my phone) but I doubt it... I don't think it's an issue with a specific ROM because I've had this problem across many ROMs.
So, if anyone has any experiences to share it might be helpful to track down the problem...
Cheers

[Q] Slow / not reliable mobile data connection on Android...

Hello everybody,
I have used / tested many Android custom ROMs until now and I have allways observed a very unstable and not reliable Internet data connection. I am living in Germany and I have also changed the provider (from E-Plus to Vodafone, both prepaid) due to this issue, but with the Vodafone I have the same slow and unstable connection, meaning: a lot of times, when I activate the mobile data, I don't get connected at all to the internet, so I have to try later, and this is happening even when I have full signal strength; when I (finally) get connected, the internet is very slow - I can say that, because some times (very rare) I get good connection speed; sometimes when I activate the mobile data, the connection isn't established (no icon on the status bar) and I have to switch between 2G and 3G or to switch shortly to airplane mode...
I can't remember to have had those problems with WM6.5 (also custom ROMs), so my question would be if it is really Android which has a problem with the data connections...
Thanks in advance for your opinions.
Conrad
Did you tried another radio rom?
Hello, check your mobile network settings - Access Point Names settings. Try to compare with someone who have good internet data speed or check the settings in windows mobile and set the same. If this won't help try to start "from the scratch". Reflash Radio - Radio Leo 2.15.50.14 very recommendable.
@icke: I have already tried different radios - no improvement
@sn0vvman: I have currently the Leo Radio 2.15.50.14 installed - maybe I will try to flash it again...
@ all: should I understand that you don't have any problems at all with the mobile data connection on HD2 with Android? This would be good news - I would try in this case further and quit thinking on going back to WM...
Yes, definitely mobile data connection on HD2 with Android works fine.
I also have problems with data connection with any NAND rom. I also tried different radios clk and magldr and so many roms. I am on O2 Germany and I also got connection problems every now and then. Sometimes it's working flawlessly. Sometimes it shows good connection but would not load a web site or check emails. Sometimes it's after a good time of usage that the connection gets unstable. Restarting data connection or a reboot always solves the problem. I'm so used to it that I don't even realize it most of the time.
getting this problem as well on TMobile in the US. i constantly lose signal on 3G/H but when I select use only 2G, signal is strong and doesn't drop. also on latest radio as well... maybe will try a previous radio
