Having a few problems - G1 General

I have been searching the forums for about an hour trying to figure these things out.
Previously I rooted my phone back when JF was the only ROM out and I didn't keep up with it.
Now I see that there's all these new different kinds of roms and its pretty confusing.
So far what I have been trying to do is start from the beginning because I don't know what is updated and what isn't.
Trying to un-root my phone, was following this thread. I believe I was able to update the original SPL that is in the sticky thread in development by doing the update. After that I was trying to get into bootloader to load the DREAIMG.nbh and it would just show the tri-color screen and nothing else. I hit the power button as it said on that thread but nothing showed up, waited about 30 minutes. So I restarted and tried a few times, no luck.
I reboot my phone once more and let it boot up normally and my old ROM is still intact, just wiped. I decided to just try to update to the SuperHero Full ROM and reading the thread it says newest SPL is required, which I can't seem to find which one is the newest.
Any direction or if I'm doing this wrong would be nice to know. Thanks for any help you can give.

http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/spl-signed.zip
that is the newest signed SPL. flash that, then install hero, along with a wipe to make sure you have no problems, and you should be good. as far as your flashing problem, what exactly are you doing?

I was trying to flash it back to RC29 and was having issues

issues with what? i dont know what the problem is unless you tell me
if it is a flashing issue for the SPL, there are many threads in the dev section.... as far as downgrading, there is another thread over in the dev section, go check them out

I followed the downgrading or unrooting thread.
When I try to downgrade to RC29 in bootloader, it goes to a tri-color screen with just Serial0 in the middle with the Radio version and such, then does nothing else. I'm going to try skipping downgrading, wanted to start from scratch but I will just try to switch from my ROM to SuperHero's and see how it goes.
update: I did the SPL update from that link and now its stuck on the boot screen (G1 logo)

Are you able to enter into recovery? (Power on while holding the home key) if so, place the rom of your choice (something other than the Hero Rom until you are sure you have the latest SPL and radio) on your sd card, name it update.zip wipe then apply the update. This should get you up and running. Also? Which radio do you have?

Thanks for the help. Going to try this out and see how it goes. Thanks all.

Boot Problems.JF ROM 1.5 HARDSPL updated

Ok after flashing the jf rom the first initial boot works but then if i turn off the phone and try to boot again it keeps cycling the android on wheels bootloader. Any ideas. OFF TOPIC Ive been here on this site since i bought my phone. I love it here its very helpfull i havnt had to post an annoying question until now im sorry lol. I know these kids that come on here and dont search dont read. But this one is annoying i mean i have to reflash everything everytime i need to reboot.
Even after wiping and reflashing jf rom 1.5 it now wont do the initial boot after flashing it still keeps going to the bootloader. SHould i flash the rc29 recovery and do my steps all over again?

try the SPL flash .. make sure to download and verify the file (MD5) and double check that you updated the radio as well
if what lucid said doesnt work, just flash the RC29 .nbh file. start fresh, i wish i could do that after h special spl.

Weird Issues with Haykuro's SPL?

Hey all, I hadnt visited xda for about 10 days until yesterday, to see how the different builds with Hero were going. Then I see the SuperHero post, and I remember that I have a partitioned 2gig MicroSD. So I go and re-root my phone(I unrooted due to rebooting issues) and install the HardSPL. After installing the Hard SPL, I try to Install Hay's Radio, then after a succesful Install, Install Hayk's SPL. Now, its kind of weird, but it doesnt want to boot. I got bricked and DREAIMG.nbh my way back to RC29. I read all about it, and saw that you need a PVT board and all that, which I do. I also remember he said there was a 99.99 Chance it will work with pvt, which, again, im guessing im that 0.01??? I am sure I have a PVT Board, it says PVT 32B or something like that..Its kind of awkward, so if anyone has any suggestions to tell me I would appreciate it. Also Mods if youre going to move this, please advice me first, I want to be able to track my Post.
I really could not track your steps but did you flash the radio update before you flashed the new spl?
Was it hung at the G1 screen? If so go back into the recovery and reflash the SPL. After it has completed, do not go into the console and type "reboot recovery". Instead reboot with the home and back buttons. It should then reboot twice and end back up in the recovery again. You should then be able to flash the ROM of your choice. That is what worked for me.

Flashing the SPL will change the size of the system and data partitions of the internal memory, so you must flash your system again and wipe.
In general, find it there
Got the same problem, can't even get to recovery.
Hope there is a solution soon.

And there it is.
Yes, I have been having the same problem as well, I believe a thread needs to be created in order to solve the current solution. There is no possible way for me to get into the phone what so ever at this time unfortunately. I am stuck at the G1 screen and I am unable to pass into recovery mode. Perhaps a brute force connection is necessary?

Radio update problem...

Hello,
I have a problem with my G1.
I got my G1 maybe a month ago. It had firmware 1.1 and radio module 1.22.12.29. Back then I did not realize it was a radio image compatible with firmware 1.0 as far as I gather from the HTC website.
At first, I did not intend to root it at all, a decision later I would regret. Well, it worked OK, only it was not updated. I was told I would receive the update over-the-air in 4 days. At first they said it would be to 1.5, but it turned out my operator started to upgrade straight to 1.6.
And so I did receive it in 4 days and the problems began.
Basically, the voice quality is so bad that half of what I say is ununderstandable. My voice sounds metalic and I cannot have a coherent conversation over the phone. It is a business phone, so you can imagine it is rather annoying when I have to struggle to be understood by clients.
Ok, so I checked the bootloader for the radio image version and I found out it was still version 1.22.12.29. As per the HTC website I should have 2.22.19.26I. So, obviously the radio firmware was not updated as it should be as per the HTC website. Thus, it seems the reason voice quality is so poor is the outdated radio firmware.
Since I did not plan to return my new phone to my operator (I had no time for it), I decided to root the phone and update the radio firmware myself. It seemed simple enough and I use Unix and Linux since 15 years, so it seemed it would pose no problem.
Quickly I learned that rooting 1.6 is not so simple. One-click method fails. Only goldcard worked and after a few days of struggle I finally got back to firmware RC7 and rooted the device.
Right after I updated the recovery image to CM 1.4, but before I flashed the CM ROM I attempted to update the radio firmware as was suggested by one tutorial I followed as well as the CM website.
Well, it all went smooth. After the update I pressed Home and Back, it rebooted, back to recovery CM1.4, one more time Home and Back and I was back to the working phone. I checked the radio firmware and lo and behold, it was still version 1.22.12.29. No errors, nothing, smooth update process and no result. I repeated it at least 5 times to no avail.
I decided to install CM 4.2.7.1 ROM and try to update the radio then. Before the CM ROM I updated the SPL to HardSPL with success to have fastboot and went to install CM. It went smooth and I booted into this new rooted G1 ROM with ease.
Again, I attempted to update the radio firmware from recovery CM1.4 and again no results.
So, I am back to square one. I have again firmware 1.6 only from CM instead of stock HTC, and I cannot use this phone for calling.
So, summarizing, I got the phone with firmware 1.1, but radio firmware from 1.0. Why it was not updated together with the system I do not know. Then I got an update to 1.6 and the radio firmware also did not upgrade. Then I went back to RC7 (firmware 1.0), rooted the phone, attempted the radio firmware update before installing CM ROM and failed. And finally, I installed HardSPL + HTC 1.6 recovery (as suggested on the CM website) + CM ROM and again failed to update the radio firmware to 2.22.19.26I. The update process is going without any errors. Verification, extracting, installation of radio image all go OK, the phone reboots but no radio updated.
Anybody any idea why it is like this? Why this phone refuses to update the radio from HTC website.
Any suggestions?
Oliwer
PS. One more thing, I was contemplating updating the radio via fastboot, but it seems after reading HTC website that fastboot is only for system and recovery image flashing. The radio has to go first adn from recovery console. Am I right on this?
I too have a problem updating to the 26i version. however i rooted at 1.5 using the one click root method and ive since switched from cyan 1.4 recovery and cyan roms to amon recovery and dwang roms. No matter which recovery i use, the 26 update flashes without an error but shows up as the same radio ive had all along (1.22.14.11) i made a thread about it but noone seems to have an answer. Sorry I couldnt help, but at least bumped up your thread and maybe someone can help us.

Thanks for sharing!
At least I know I am not alone here with this problem.
Since it's Christmas and I have some more time, I decided to do a Nandroid backup and wipe my phone back to the original rom with 1.0 firmware (RC7).
I used my goldcard and I flashed it in a few minutes. I logged back into 1.0 firmware with the original bootloader and recovery console.
Next I put everything on my goldcard, flashed the recovery CM1.4 from the terminal, went to the bootloader, flashed update.zip with the newest radio 2.x from HTC, everything went smooth. Reboot and again NO change of the firmware. Tried a few more times flash the radio and HardSPL together to no avail. I restored my backup and found myself back to square one.
One think I noticed, and I wonder if you get the same, is that when I flash the radio, the phone reboots back to the recovery console and shows "Formating Cache..." message. It does not tell me anything like Please reboot, just this message. Meanwhile I can move the cursor up and down the recovery menu, so the phone has not hang up. It just sits at the recovery until I reboot it. Once I waited 30 minutes to see if it reboots itself and it does not. So, I press Home+Back and then it reboots fully and after loging in I check the radio and NO change.
So, I wonder if your phone does the same?

When flashing the radio image w/ Cy's recovery you must flash as an update.zip using alt-s, press whatever key you need to press to confirm and reboot using home+back. If you use flash any zip or use the trackball to reboot the radio image (or SPL) will not reboot in the required way to complete installation.

I tried all possible ways. Just a few minutes ago I went to CM1.4 recovery, used the update from update.zip, pressed Home+Back, rebooted back to recovery console, pressed Home+Back again, booted to CM4.2.10, punched the PIN code, checked the About Phone section and I am still with 1.22.x radio firmware.
This phone simply refuses to update the firmware in any known way.
So, my plan now is to un-root it back to the state I got it 2 months ago and return it to the operator and request upgrade of radio, since Donut with an old radio is basically useless. People simply do not understand half of what I say even if I speak slowly and quietly.
Cheers,
Oliwer
You have to press
Cam+power and it will show radio
....
In settings that radio has nothing to do with one installed...Do you know that the radio does?
It allows custom roms like cyan to be installed while keeping root access. The rom allows some tmo apps like account to still be used here in the states.
yes oliwer i get the same formatting cache message but nothing else happens. i tried in cyans recovery and amons recovery using only button shortcuts and not the trackball. i always named the radio update.zip, but still no luck. Im not sure if the 26i radio requires a certain version before it can upgrade, like maybe i have to upgrade to another radio before i can get to 26i? im not quite sure...ive run out of ideas on what to do. I dont have a warranty or anything on my g1. does the fact im using a donut rom on a cupcake radio have anything to do with it? if i had a cupcake rom and upgraded the radio to 26i from there would it work? i know these might sound like dumb ideas but im still relatively new to the scene and im running out of ideas as to why this is happening or why i cant solve it..
bump? anyone have a solution for us? or advice?
i just realized that i had android 1.1 with the 1.22.14.11 radio when i first got my phone, when t-mobile gave me the 1.5 update, i was still stuck on the same radio for some reason. After that I used the one click method to root and ive been on dwang donut rom ever since with the same dated radio...Ive tried using cyans recovery to flash and still no luck, no error, it says its updated but when i check the baseband or stock spl its still the same radio. I never went for a danger spl when i rooted because i was afraid to brick so i cant fastboot a radio update. I asked in another topic if it was possible to use the "flash_image" command in terminal to flash the radio but i dnt think itll work and i dont wanna risk it. If anyone has any advice or a possible solution please keep us updated.
Thank you!
Turn your phone off, hold the camera button down, and power on your phone.
What do you see?
each time before and after the flashing of the radio using cyans or amons recovery image id get the same rainbow screen saying
DREA100 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-1.22.14.11
Serial0
so im still stuck on the Android 1.1 radio.

I do not know, really, why the radio refuses to upgrade. Since my last message I have read tons of posts on this issue and nearly ALL people can upgrade the radio firmware easily, just like the SPL. Somehow, I can upgrade the SPL to whatever I want, but not the radio. Very strange indeed and no luck so far.

Well, I installed HardSPL and it worked despite the old radio. HardSPL offers FASTBOOT and I use it at times. This is safe, at least for me.

Well, I did, but it does not work since flash_image updates partitions and G1 does not have radio partition. So, when you try to update the radio.img it tells you no radio partition. It is only possible for Roger G1 since it has radio partition unlike all other G1s and there you could upgrade the radio with flash_image.

Yeap! I just practised how to un-root the phone straight to 1.6 with the original SPL and recovery and I was able to restore my phone to the state before rooting and I plan to give it back to my operator under warranty and ask to get this radio fixed. I will do it next week. I will report if the authorized service will be able to upgrade the radio.

How to flash from SD card ?

I know apparently this isnt the best way to flash your HD2, but im stuck without any access to windows. (mac user)
i cant seem to find step by step instructions on how to do this properly....
is there a link somewhere i can get to so i can figure this out? isnt it as simple as copying the custom.nbh file to the root of my memory card, and entering the bootloader screen?
Sorry for all the noob questions.
take ruu_signed.nbh, copy it to sdcard formatted fat32 (2gb cards seen to work best) rename it leoimg.nbh, boot to bootloader and it should detect the image and ask if you want to flash.
it still requires hspl, unless you have a goldcard(easier to borrow a pc for two minutes to apply hspl than make a goldcard)
the phones already been flashed with hspl.
i just want to change the rom!
Thanks for the tips im going to go for it right now

Hi
One advice you have to remember is DO NOT flash any official rom with this method. If you do it will replace the hspl and you will be stuck.
Good luck

True, flashing a stock rom via sd card will overwrite hspl with the new stock spl, but you will not necessarily be stuck. That used to be the case before hspl2, as the original hspl only worked with spl 1.42.0000. HSPL2 now works with 1.42.0000, 1.66.0000 or 2.08.0000 spl's.
or just throw your mac away and buy a PC
What many forget is that you actually need an SD card and not SDHC, as those will not work.
understand u already flash hspl,
microSD / microSDHC will work as long it is formatted with FAT32 fs.
just copy the *.nbh to SD root & rename it to LEOIMG.nbh.
enter bootloader, follow on-screen.
if bootloader cant find any rom image, run scandisk & try again.
gd luck.
I just flashed this rom.
It seemed to be fine. It installed and looked a-ok.
I had a look around and every thing looked as it should.
I added "26.4 column Start menu.cab" and now the phone won't reboot at all.
It gets to the HTC white screen, and then hangs.
Any ideas?
Is it a conflict between the 4 columns app and the ROM?

when you say "just flashed this rom", what rom?
also, did you read ALL the first few posts in the chefs thread? chances are it requires a specific radio version
either that or you didn't do a hard reset after you flashed.
apologies, I replied in here when I thought I was in the HTC Energy thread.
The device rebooted after the flash.
Does that not count as a hard reset?
samsamuel said:
Is it T Mobile usa? if so, then you have flashed an incompatible rom.
tmous (T Mo US) phones will opnly take roms based on 2.10, the rom you have installed is 1.66 (D 1. 66. Kumar)
Kumar has a rom in the Tmo US section based on 2.10, you should use that, not the one in teh normal hd2 section.
With power off, press and hold "volume down", tap the power key and continue to hold vol down until you get the three coloured screen, connect to usb, wait for word 'serial' to become 'usb' and flash a compatible rom.

I ran into the same problem and all I had to do was to get the phone into Bootloader and then flash the radio recommended by ROM Cook.
also the same problem
I have also this problem, but I think it's in the rom, when I installed the rom, everything seems ok, but after a reset, the screenthat I get is the white HTC screen.
After a hard reset it is ok, but after a reset it is the same problem.
Then I thought, i take an older rom, but when I've installed the rom he is automatic installing the cab file's at the end of the installation, and he's going to automatic reset the HD2. After the reset I have the same problem as with the new rom.
So the biggest problem is that I can't install another rom or radio because the rom don't start for 100%, and when I do a hard reset, after the reset at the end of the installation I get the white HTC screen.
What can I do, can I fix this problem?

RTFM. These constant posts about white screen hangs are really getting frustrating. Does nobody follow the forum rules of searching any longer? There's nothing wrong with the rom, the user on the other hand I'm not so sure of.

If you bothered to read even just the last 5 pages of the Energy thread you would have seen probably 20 mentions of the problem. Energy rom won't work with a x.xx.51.xx radio.

Hi all,
I'm a complete newbie. Most of you will have little patience for me but I'm hoping to find at least a couple of you willing to help me out. Here's my story. I thought it would be cool to by a used HTC Magic from Ebay to use with AT&T. The guy that sold it to me put Froyo on it and I was excited to have the latest Android on the phone.
I got it yesterday and the trouble started quasi immediately. I will post the exact things that happened as well as I can.
1. First the phone was rebooting on its own. It would make it as far as the home screen with the icons but if I tried to press anything, like contacts, it would reboot.
2. Then it eventually took me to the recovery screen where, after reading several threads, I downloaded the newest (not ROM, but whatever the first thing is on that page that you can update it).
3. Then the phone stopped rebooting itself but I couldn't get to the market or email because the dumbass that sold me the phone hadn't wiped his user info. So I googled again and was told to factory reset.
4. I tried factory reset 3 times and it did nothing.
5. Went back to the recovery page to see if that had anything that would help and I clicked Fix Permissions and let it run that.
6. Still no change when it came to wiping his user info.
7. Got frustrated and googled again. This time I saw a thread that said you should reboot using the up/down key and power. Did that.
Since then, I've had a blinking HTC green screen. At some point during this process I made it to what looks like a basic OS window from which I copied the following information:

What do you suggest I do now? I emailed the guy who sold me the phone because I figure if he put it on there, he can put it back. Or at least send me the files. Not sure he will care or want to help me. Besides, doesn't seem like he got it right.
I am willing to try to fix this myself but I don't want to start downloading files and flashing the phone only to destroy it. Guidance is needed.
Thank you in advance.

If the device actually booting then you should be alright, just sounds as if the guy who sold it to you flashed it with something crappy.
1.33.2005 is your SPL version, and that particular SPL version is what's referred to as an "engineering SPL" which allows you to flash roms and custom recoveries via fastboot (basically). For more info you can read here , but it doesn't overly concern you now.
To flash any roms yourself (more easily) you will need a custom recovery such as Amon_RA's Recovery, which you can download in this thread. Follow his instructions. You may already have this but you didn't say so.
Once you have done so, I suggest you install a ROM such as CyanogenMod, which you can get from here. Again, instructions on how-to flash it are in his thread. Essentially though, it is as follows:
- Put cyanogenmod rom on your SD card.
- Boot in to recovery screen (press the ON button whilst holding HOME)
- Wipe data/dalvik-cache
- Flash .zip from SD card & choose the file you put there
- Reboot the phone and wait patiently
Edit: Just to reassure, the things that tend to "brick" phones are flashing SPL and Radio updates, which you don't appear to need to do. Flashing roms very rarely causes devices to break, it is usually just the rom at fault.
Not Development related. Moved to General.
OP, next time you post make sure you post in the correct section or I'll close the thread.
