Two files, does not negatively affect performance to a tangible degree (Latest HTC ROM, couple of performance tweaks) and takes 5 minutes.
It is well worth the effort in my opinion though I have a curious problem whereby if I charge my phone via PC, it never charges above 87%.

annoying battery meter

does anyone else experience where their battery meter only decreases by 10%... at first i thought it was battery status.. it would go from 100%-90%-80% etc, so i opened the actual battery meter that is built and it does the same thing.. what i wouldnt give to see my battery meter go 100%-99%-98% etc... maybe im just to anal
I thought I was the only one!
I just got my 8525 yesterday - upgraded from the 8125. I noticed the battery meter "issue" also and it has been driving me nuts. I googled a little and couldn't find any information. I have reinstalled the Resco today plug 3 or 4 times thinking it was the problem.
Is there any fix? A registry hack? I hate 10% increments - would prefer 1% like my 8125 use to be. Can anyone help?

Your not the only one, and somewhere I have seen other posts on this so it's just standard. I have also tried other meters but they all seem to draw on the same battery info, i.e. the 10% at a time. I suppose it's not a critical matter unless your on your last 10% in which case it can suddenly become critical.
I haven't seen a solution but I would like to be proved wrong!
Mike
Dang, I have the same issue. I was hoping there was already a fix for it.
I keep thinking the 8125 did this as well at some point.
Either way, we definitely need a fix for this 10% decrement crap.
This maybe a dumb question.... When a device reports in such small incriments of 1% lets say.. Does'nt that sorta require more CPU power in the long run?? Better for the device not to report so much right ?? 10% left means hmm I should get to a charger in about 30mins..

Not dumb, very sensible in fact, just not very satisfying for us obsessive compulsives
Mike
i guess i will admit i must be obsessive compulsive... cause this shouldnt bother me as long as its halfway accurate.. but it does.. i think what bothers me is that you see it sit at 100% for a long time, then all of sudden you look and its 90%... just bothers the fk out of me..
Now that my therapy session is over...
Now here is a good question... does this happen the same way on the stock TyTn's and hermes? or is this just a cingular 8525 thing?
Happens the same on ALL Hermes devices, sadly...
This is the way the driver gives the battery status to WM. The only fix would be a new driver from HTC.
I think that this is a minor problem in a device almost perfect (in my opinion)
i wonder if its possible to steal the driver from the wizard.... hmmmm... unfortunately i wont get time to dig and see until this weekend
I have the same problem and I find it really annoying.

here is the file you need from the wizard 3.2
remove the ZIP extencion
put into the window folder.better yet make a cab file ,make sure is set to hard path.
dont know if i will work......it also depends of the inbuild battery poolling timer. most problably found in the registry.

FYI just a regular copy/paste of that file cause the battery meter not work, lol... will maybe try a cab later

We've been banging our heads against this one on the TyTn for a while with no success. Good luck! Nothing like a new perspective to maybe find something!
I'd actually thought the 1.34 ROM didn't show 100% initially after powersave though. That's interesting b/c it was on Cingular's fix list from the 1.31 ROM...

8125 Battery says "unknown" - HELP!!

Settings=>Power=>
Battery says "unknown" and
the charge shows "nothing" in the charged bar.
How to configure the driver for the battery so that the software can see the battery??

There is not much you can do if you bought a 3rd party battery - seems like the chip in there has no information!
The battery not being recognized is the one that came from the OEM.
Just wondering what could be the possible issues, is it the battery or some setting in the ROM / Firmware that's causing the trouble.
All the other functions on the phone seem to be NORMAL.
Not sure,
an easy way to figure that out: try to put another battery in the WIZ if you have one! Try also to use the 'not showing' battery in another WIZ if somebody has one.
If booth options above are not available:
Back up your device and reflash it with an official shipped ROM. See if you get the battery showing up there! It might be a little bit work but in a long run it is better than having a faulty battery in the device ... !
I bought me a 3rd party long-life battery and have no problems with the status display.
Yes, the official ROM version helps..can see the status now.
But now the question is, what was the problem in the first place??
Cannot be a problem with the battery hardware itself...
must have been the software...what settings to tweak is status is not working??

Good question!
Could have been a couple of problems: a bad flash (sometimes a few files get messed up), a missing file or application!
Just try to reflash the WIZ with the ROM you used before, see if you still get the same problem.
You might wanna PM me the ROM version we are talking about - maybe I am able to re-produce the issue and take a closer look at it.

Battery Life

Is there anybody know what software or what method can allow my X1 to show the battery life in single digit % instead of moving by 10% each time (i.e. 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%...). I've installed Battery Status which does not work. I have also install a software call Battery Monitor which has a small icon showing on the top bar on the screen.
Thanks in advance for your great help!
I think this does not work at all.
No there isnt any, as the battery driver only reports in 10% step, unless someone can find another driver to embed in the rom that support 1% steps then it wont be possible
also the has been asked several times recent, so a simply search should show more info!!

Thanks! Then I can only wait until the driver is ready.
i remember seeing something about 1% increments for my old touch pro somewhere... maybe it was at ppcgeeks...
anyways, i remember it wasn't accurate above 90% and below 15%.... it was buggy... you can try to find it and install it if youd like to just try it out
my guess something good will come around soon tho

Thanks a lot! Do you know how the software looks like? It is because I have installed battery status, not working. I have installed battery monitor, not working... I am not sure if you are talking about something which I have already installed but have found not working.
no, its not like "software" as much as it is just a cab that makes some registry tweaks and could possibly replace/add a .dll file
i'll do some searching and see if i can find it

problem with my camera

Hi guys I need your help for this problem.
The camera won't let me take photos using the flash leds, I tap the icon but nothing happens...it won't change.
The thing is that it worked fine and smooth until yesterday (as far as I remember), I only installed some "innocent" cabs and the hotfixes. Never changed the ROM but now, after the hotfixes, it shows me 2 different versions: when the phone starts it says 1.48.71294 but when I go in phone informations it says ROM 1.48.408.1 (71294) ITA (btw, I'm italian...). Is it the same thing or what?
Now I'm downloading the ROM from the htc support :/. Will it help? donno yet.
The phone works perfect, just this camera thingy is driving me mad. 3 or 4 hard resets didn't help.
Try help me out (I'll go up on the roof and throw my Leo far far away...).
Thx in advance.
EDIT: SOLVED
hi,
great to know your problem got solved. can you please post the solution?
thanks
Funny how it got solved: another hard reset and here I go.
Sorry but this is it.
And make sure your batter is above the minimum charge amount for the camera app to use the flash. I've seen various amounts on here, ranging from 20% to 50%. I'd suggest that if your flash isn't working in the camera app, that's probably your problem. Just make sure you're charged to at least 50%.

this is what I was mumble-mumble thinking last night but the battery was fully charged.
It seems like this smartphone is a work-in-progress but I'm positive and still consider that the price is worth.
I had the same problem: at the beginning I was scared something went wrong on my device. Later I found that under 20% the led flash is disabled by default to save battery.... try, it's the right percentage...
What solved? Share with us!
Not having the flash available under 20% is a real pain - I don't like having my hand held because HTC won't let me decide if the pic I want to take is more important or having my phone last for some extra time.
Does anybody know the registry tweak or fix to enable the flash until the battery is spent?
There's none.
The drain of the flash is so high that if it stayed active under 20% the voltage drop on the battery would most likely cause your HD2 to just shut down instantly when it gives the bright flash when taking the photo.
battery under 30% the device wont allow you to use the flash.

Serious battery drain with minimum usage

Hi all,
The battery life of my 4month old SGS is becoming shorter every week! I can 'almost' last a work day (8 hours) with a fully charged battery and minimal use.
I had this problem also on the stock firmware, Darky's rom 8.x was a slight improvement (much faster tho!), Light-ning rom and Darky's rom 9.x.
Everyday I charge my battery untill it is full, when my alarm goes off it's already at 98% (it's still hooked up). When I'm in the train to school, my battery already dropped around 86% (being idle). I check some mobile websites, my e-mail and read some twitter messages.
Because I know services as Twitter (I'm using Tweetdeck) uses alot of resources and battery, so when I'm done looking I always shut down those programs. And I often do an 'end all' task in the 'System' app which I purchased from the market lately to monitor my battery.
During the day the only thing I do is check my mail and some websites, but not for long, mostly it would be around 5minutes or so. So WiFi is turned OFF, GPS is turned OFF, and only GMail synchronizes with default settings. So what's the deal? Is my battery slowly dieing because of oldness, or is there another problem?
Thanks in advance for helping me! You're doing a great job!
Sincerely yours,
S1GNZ
after flashing your custom roms of choice... did you ever do a battery calibration?
like let your phone drain till it dies on its own... turn it on againa nd let it die again to completely drain it to the point where u cant even turn it on.
Then plug your phone in to charge and let it charge to 100%. Keeping the phone plugged in turn on your phone into recovery. Then clear battery status.
Then reboot your phone into normal mode and let it continue charging till it says 100%. WHen you unplug your phone it SHOULD say 100% still.
This normally fix the problem but if you notice that your phone is dying quickly still then PM me.
One small advice, try logging out google talk,of-course if you are not on it much,it will give you at least 2-3 hrs more.
Also, there is already a thread active on this forum 'dont kill your phone
,give it a life' give that a read.
Mainly this battery drains are there because of apps doing sync. or polling.identify them and adjust settings.

Am I auto-logged in on Google talk? If so, how do I log myself out :$? So Google sync might drain it? (Mail, Agenda, Contacts?)
Thanks for the quick replies! I really appreciate it!

I am not 100% sure if you auto logged or not.I believe not but if not so , then open app, press menu/setting button on phone, select logout.also if you not intending to use data network, press power key till you see a menu turn off, data network, turn it on when you need it.These small things saves some power.
If you dont want to mess around with this little twiks then 'juice plotter' is the app for you.it will manage lots of things and defi. saves battery.
BTW based on your usage desc., I think I use it in similar way ...almost and yet phone makes ~2 days.

You of course wouldn't be doing this alot nor should you NEED to do this often. It's only something you do when you're experiencing what you currently are.
Personally I have no idea why anyone say u "Should NOT" do this.. it's not like you're altering anything hardware wise. It's mainly software and power usage aspects.
Like I said to each their own. Some people say custom roms are a "No-No" cuz it messes with the phone in more bads than good and some says stock roms are for noobs. You dont HAVE to try what I said, it's merely a suggestion of fix or methods that seems to solve the problems others have encountered.
Clearing the battery status pretty much resets it's counter to 100% and from there it will "calculate" the life of the battery from full to empty. It's a calibration thing.
Now on regards to usage, keep your data plan off and auto-sync off when you're not using it. Leave your wifi off and gps off as well.. pretty much keep anything you dont need off until you need it. Some samsung apps does a background run thing where it'll auto turn on and auto run in the background which drains ur battery quite badly. If you don't use goggle talk or samsung chat apps, there are many ways to remove them completely so it won't mess with your battery life
Simple you installed a rom with multiple posts on battery drain problem .
A rom that also tells you about battery drain problems /fix on its front page .

Don't be offended by what I said! . I only wanted to make sure I'm doing the right thing, I appreciate your criticism though. I did what you said and fully drained my battery yesterday, kept it charging overnight, cleared the batterystats through recovery mode and at the moment it's charging till 100%. I will see if it helps!
And according to my usage, I have Wifi and GPS turned of as default. And because I reinstalled a new ROM inclusive data wipe I don't have much chat apps installed, maybe there are some default apps that don't show up in the 'System panel' app though?

Care to explain a bit further?
FYI, I installed these ROMS:
past: Stock firmware 2.2.1
past: Darky's ROM v8.0 Gingerbread edition
past: Light-ning ROM 2.2 (if I'm correct, it's probably the latest)
current: Darky's ROM v9.2 Extreme edition (9.2 should've fixed the battery drain, am I right?)
Can't thank you enough for the replies!
Sincerely yours,
S1GNZ
im having similar problems too. calibrating doesnt really make a difference.
i installed an app called task identifier which is brilliant it tell me whats happening when the phone is asleep. the only trouble is i dont understand what these processes are so i cant disable them.... is there any sort of app out there that completely logs / signs you out of every app ??
i have 108 apps (not including system apps) and its hard trying to eliminate the battery drainers
Care to explain a bit further?
As it says post lots of with battery problems big big percentage running Darky rom .
current: Darky's ROM v9.2 Extreme edition (9.2 should've fixed the battery drain, am I right?) You would have to ask on dARKY Post .
Look at Battery drain thread LAST POST OR SO MAY BE OF INTEREST .
I am of the opinion that if a rom breaks something then installing more roms will often not fix the problem . I prefer a blank completely wiped phone in such cases with no trace of any rom left on it .
jje
@azzledazzle 108 apps? really ????
I don't have that much on my PC!
I think we should start narrowing down which apps drain most juice. I've been using Advanced Task Killer just to narrow down a couple.
example:
Sound Hound - starts on its own
Facebook had an issue with notifications push, when disabled, it still sent notifications to my phone. But I think they fixed it in the latest version.
We could start adding versions to know which app is a 'juice drainer'
