Hi, does anyone have a software solution for having an option to soft reset the phone from within tf3d or wm6.1 ? Right now i'm trying out all sorts of new software and it's quite annoying having to open the back cover each time I want to reset.

Try PsShutXP which will give you the options. Haven't tried it myself, but it worked on my blackstone a treat. Use the Touch Diamond version, its about the right fit.
Can you not just hold the power button down and switch it off? It's what I do.
I know it requires access to the touchscreen, but so would any software solution.
You can also install HD Tweak.
I can confirm it works on the TP2.
It also installs Soft Reset.
When you execute, it asks you if you want to soft reset and voila
H.
Devstate (short for device state) is what I use, excellent today plugin (as long as TF3D is disabled) it has options to turn off screen and other stuff too.
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-devstate-v1-5.html
Thanks for the quick replies !
I don't like the option of keeping the power button pressed, because it requires me to confirm the shutdown and to power it up again when it has shut down, in the end taking longer if you reset the device about 10 times a day...
As for the PsShutXP, I can confirm it works on the Touch Pro 2.
I will give the HD Tweaks a try and see how that works.
I tried HD Tweaks as well and the reboot function works fine as well. I think I'll go for PsShutXP though since you can skin it. I am also using Advanced Config 3.3 so the added functionality in HD tweaks is not useful either.
I like this one:
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-a-a-reset-manager.html
You can schedule also when you want to perform a soft reset
Pocketpowermanager is wonderful. Three little icons at the foot of my today screen, allowing me to power-off, rotate screen and soft reset.
Here is what i've used since my touch pro. Hope it helps
here is monxdified simple & neat soft-reset. cab in the zip file.

Handy menu is best I think. U get very nice menu with many short cuts in it and also soft reset. U can have an icon in top bar, but for that U have to install Handy switcher too. Try them and see if U gonna like them, but they are just free to try...

Hi, I usually slide open just to power on the phone.
So, I would like nothing to happen when I slide the phone open when on the today screen..
Does somebody have an idea how to do this?
Are you talking about the Keypad QuickTasks?
You can easily find the option on Start -> Settings -> System Tab -> Keypad QuickTasks
Yes, I mean the dialpad quicktasks.
When this is disabled I get the dialer instead.
As a "workaround", you could just press the red "hangup" button after opening the phone to return to the home screen...

this annoys me too, i may write a small program that looks for the keyboard opened event, and minimises the phone program

That will be cool!
Oh.. I've been using a certain "Yet another lock app" v1.2 or something like that... and I always set mine to lock and suspend everytime I do a right to left sweep (via FTouchFo). And everytime I slide the keypad, it automatically unlocks and nothing comes up; no quicktasks nor phoneapp). I'm not kidding... I don't know if it's a good "side-effect", but that's how it works.
can you post a link or the cab?

This is where I found it.

I actually prefer this than any other locking app out there since this app uses the same built-in Device Lock program with a few nice modifications.
Enjoy!
Optional Alternative
I wrote a mortscript file to disable both menus
1. Extract
2. Place "Kill" folder in Program Files
3. Place run.mscr in startup
4. Reset
Enjoy
Simple fix for this
Hi there,
I just got my Niki a couple of weeks ago (with T-mobile in the UK) and this has been bugging me too ever since.
I figured that there must be a registry setting to control this somewhere as the Keypad Quicktasks are able to adjust this behaviour. Last night , I finally found it.
The setting in question is:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Biotouch/ActionScreen/Check
With the Keypad Quicktasks on, it is set to 1. With them off it is set to 0 and will instead launch the phone app.
Simply set it to anything else (e.g. 2) and both the Quicktasks and the phone application are disabled upon sliding open the phone. The active slide event is still recognised and sliding the phone open will still answer an incoming call.
Sweet.

Agreed Thanks fenallen
i've come accross a problem - a reset seems to wipe the settings and has reverted to showing the phone screen???
Well it seems to survive a soft reset as well as power cycles with the battery removed so I presume you mean a hard reset, in which case ... isn't that the point of a hard reset?
I would be amazed/worried if it wasn't set back to default by a hard reset.
nope, i am on about a soft reset! i'll try again to see if it keeps the settings this time
Im happy to say it works fine, after i made a soft reset.
power on/off
it´s posible to change the action of the power buton hardkey?
thanks
Reset button behind back cover??
Not good
But not a no-go item, just a minor irritator for people that fiddle with the software a lot
A normal user almost never needs to reset.
....and soft reset most of the times anyway....
PsShutXP will do the work from screen ( besides any major stucks)
And this could be seen like a security feature, as it's no more accessible to the eye from now on.

I tought that it is a standard, after installation of a new app you always must do a softreset to let it work properly!
If thats a fact, many people get frustrated when they will install a lot of new app's. And I think they will!
I hope the extra feature (soft reset) in SPB Mobile Shell 2.1.2 will work to.
Someone tried this yet!?

It has been reported in the topic 'Programs/Utilites & Games ~ working on the Touch HD' Mobile Shell has problems with the Touch HD.
The drop-down menu's do not work.
Beards
Another Way
There is a quicker and easier way to reset - hold down the power button for a few seconds. You'll get a prompt about saving work but OK that and the device will shut down fully. If you wait another few seconds you can power it up again - seems to have all the benefits of a restart without the hassle of taking the back off.
There's another method for a reset:
Shutdown phone, Push both Volume up and Volume down, push Power button.
Wait till phone sais its resetting on screen.
No need to use the reset button (or whining and biotchin)

And what is wrong with just shutting down and starting up your device? that has the same effect. I have installed quite some applications and most of them offer a soft reset at the end anyway...if not, I just switch the device off and back on...faster than taking off the battery cover first.
I would highly recommend WkTask Manager
Besides providing a soft-reset option directly from the "X" or Close/Ok button, it is highly featured and way better than HTC' X Button.
Regards,
Carty..

Yup. It works
And don't forget, the best way to do a soft reset, without the fear of not loosing data, it's to press 5 secs on the power button. One should only try the reset hole on a last chance!!!

FDCSofts TM has a soft reset action from the main menu

PHM Powertoys...
Has a reset function. There's a shortcut icon included so I dragged this to my "Programs" tab in manila.
its free too, although written in 2004!

I've been using this one for years. It works well.
I have to say though there are times that nothing else other than a soft reset will do.
How about drilling a small hole in the back cover? And perhaps sticking a piece of rubber sheet on the inside of it to prevent dust getting in, but still allowing you to use the stylus to hit the reset.
I assume the back cover is made of sheet metal? (I'm still patiently waiting for my contract to run out! )
Or you could try A-A reset manager - search on the forums for it
Are there any other ways to do a soft reset without opening the back cover? Given how often a soft reset is required (or at least advised), I'm concerned for the longevity for the little hooks on the plastic back plate that hold it firmly in place...
EDIT: I am quite good at answering my own queries today - as suggested, A-A Reset Manager is a nice little app that seems to do the trick, just run it when you need to reset (or schedule a regular reset - eg overnight). After some searching, I found it here:

Hi guys,
as u know know the TF3D by default takes up the 1st panel.
and when i try to use the other panels..i can no longer press the button X... because whenever i do that..the entire Xperia screen goes blank and hangs up. then even the power button doesnt work and i have to remove and reinsert the battery.
what to do?
this TF3D causing major issues.. is it bugged?
Doing a soft reset is way easier...open the battery cover, pull out the pen und put it in the small hole...
Are you using TF3D as panel or on the default today panel? If not already tried, use the TF3D-Pnaleinstaller here ion the forum...
When i try to access the panels, my X1 hangs most of the time as well, using it as the today screen. Is there any fix?
ya i use it as on Today screen.
is there a fix around this?
i disabled it now anywya.
btw does Soft Reset also delete all the data?
"btw does Soft Reset also delete all the data?"
no thats the diff between soft and hard reset
which version r u guys using? I am using beta2 and I dont have any problem switching panels... only flaw I have in the tf3d is I cant add some people to the favorite list for some reason... otherwise everything is working as it should be
Same here
I wanna know if anyone found a fix for this? or at least let us know if you have this issue. This is what I have narrowed it out to.
I'm using <Touch-IT Xperience v2.1> ROM which has TF3D installed by default
The Panel interface(The screen which opens up when i click panel button) works perfect when i disable TF3D in today
Now when I activate it, am able to open the panel interface and choose any other panel.
After this, if i click on the panel button, the x1 just freezes and all i can do is soft reset
Note:- I have no other application running.
If this continues I have to choose either panels or TF3D. I love it when i can use TF3D for daily use and shift to Facebook or media panel when i need them.
I just wanna know of this indeed a bug or am i missing something big
currently 2 versions available
hi,
i too was suffering fromt he same issues and took a while to realize that the tf3d was causing it.
afaik, there are 2 different versions of tf3d (i mean by 2 diff. people) for xperia.
i beleive most of us are using the one titled 'Full manila hd cabs' (or something similar - extremely sorry for not recalling the name of the developer who's made rhe effort to provide it) - and the one experiencing the issue.
there is another version linkd on the xda wiki, will try it now - and update with names of both developers as well as results
again
actually installing TF3D as a panel solved this issue
but since we have the new manila... the panel doesnt work
so we are back to square one... by default the TF3D sit on the today's screen and after that pressing the panel button freezes the phone
And if you choose the new panel with TF3d... it says loading forever
SOmebody please help
I'm an idiot - I can't figure out where the "small hole" for the soft reset is located.
Can someone show me a picture?

hehe... I spent ages trying to figure this one out too...
here's an image I got on Google search..
to access the reset button .. you need to take off the battery cover, pull out your stylus (since that is obstructing the button) and then using the stylus 'poke' into the hole besides the battery.
I find this location - and the need to take off the battery cover - everytime you need to reset very VERY painful
I recently got my HD and need to figure out which auto-rotator is better. Also would like some instructions on how to install. THANK YOU!!!
Hi,
I use Flip it by Wild Berry team, its much simpler to use and configure than the two you mentioned.
http://rapidshare.com/files/172926970/Flip_IT_by_WildBerry_Team.cab
Simply copy the cab to your phone and run the cab. Cant for the life of me remember if it needs a soft reset but if its not working then do one.
Nogs
I did use gyrater but stopped and now use AEButton Plus. I don't now use an automatic rotate app.
AEB+ has a screen rotate function. I have assigned this function to a double press on the OK button.
This allows me to rotate quickly when I want and not automatically. This is my preference since I don't always want the screen rotated.
Find it here: http://ae.inc.ru
I also use it to map the volume up/down to actual up/down and double press for volume control and long press up gives a flash lamp (plamp) and long press down gives auto record on Resco recorder.
AEB+ is shareware but has virtually all the functions available in the unregistered state.
Worked through of few rotational apps but now staying with ChangeScreen. Very easy to use and exclude programmmes (just type in the name). Am finding my list of exclusions keeps growing and wondered whether it is mainly a gimmick.
I think this is because, unless the app is full screen, in widescreen you end up with a long header and footer plate and a lot less screen doing the real business.
Anyway try ChangeScreen .

Hello nogs,
I did 2 times an reboot, but still it don't works.
Do you have any idea.
btw i have a HTC HD
Personally I'd recommend either Changescreen or FlipIt. Both easy to set up and both work a charm!!
anybody got a clue how to totally remove flip it? ive tried with touch flo on and off and just normally remove and removing through activ sync but it still remains in the list of programs and also when i go to start/settings/menus its in there and the box is checked and when i try to uncheck the box it says "cannot move that item",only other way i can think to get rid of it totally is to reflash the rom ag ain which seems a bit extreme to remove an app.

Some roms have apps embedded into them so you cannot remove them unfortunately

I noticed that the SPB panel has a soft reset button under "tools".
Is it possible to get that in the launcher rows for Sony Ericsson Panel 2?
I wonder where the link/program is located?
Or is there a program/.cab that can be downloaded?
Everytime I search "soft reset", I get so many irrelevant post/threads.
Thanks in advance!
I don't understand why would you need it. Turning the device off and on again will do the same. And if the device is locked and unresponsive, launcher icon wouldn't help you.

cause it's a pain in the ass to have to switch panels to the spb panel, just to reset the phone.
I understand, what the op is talking about, I was going to look into a solution.
I use phm soft reset. Simple app and it's free. I don't remember where I got the cab, but just google for it.
I agree with the OP. I just prefer to press a shortcut instead of waiting for the phone to turn off and turning it back on again and this way you can put it anywhere you'd like. I keep mine in the start menu, even though I have at least five other ways to do the same thing on my phone, this is the only reset that I use.
edit: Smaberg's actionscreen is great too as it has both soft reset and power off (along with a ton of other useful functions) in an easy to reach place, but I still use phm for plain old soft resets. Highly recommend taking a look at it though.

Dr. Sid, I am asking for something like this not because I want to reset when the X1 stalls. It's when I'm using it on the move and I only want to really dedicate one hand to the unit.
People can say I'm lazy, but I'm looking for some convenience. Convenience, isn't that what we're all after when we bought a beautiful unit like X1?
I use also phm soft reset. Anyway, there's a reset button under the cover battery on the right, for me it's the easiest and fastest way
Use smaberg's power button add on. It's here in the forum.

lol, the battery cover is the last thing I want to deal with.
Some people say it falls off from use, but mine seems like a pain to remove and it's actually the most "least liked" physical part of the phone.
Thanks all for the tips, I actually have phm soft reset and smaberg's power button add on.
Smaberg's power button add on, makes it feel like a true SE machine
Yeah you just take the battery cover off take the stylus out and you should see a hole to the right of the battery in which you can press the stylus into and your phone will soft reset
The battery cover is the worst part of the X1. I'm almost breaking my nails trying to open it. I wonder why didn't they put the soft reset button somewhere outside the battery area.
@Hisatsu, I have that in my launcher.
What I did - go to Windows/Start Menu > Copy "Reset PPC" > Click Programs > Edit > Paste Shortcut > Go to launcher and add it in.
