Recently I've been addicted to rainbow 6 multiplayer on my xperia play. I've noticed that I have a much easier time aiming and headshots then other players... Chances are they are gaming on a regular touchsphone, scrambling to aim at me but die before they can shoot.
At a record of 1887 to 817 deaths, it's safe to say because of the keypad advantage, I am better then other players. How are you guys coping with fps??? I was never good at fps but I get records like 100-26 with 42 kills being headshots

I would also like to add that I am extremely happy with this phone, for the simple fact that it's for gamers.. Casual or not the gamepad really enriches the experience... It's sad that sony releases this when they are struggling and don't promote or back it properly... If it was samsung that released it, I'm sure it will dominate the entire cellphone gaming market

Ya they definitely released it at the wrong time, or atleast should of worked more on the release games...but i think its a fantastic phone, the gamepad is beautiful, playing first person shooters against any touch screen players does put you a step ahead, i personal like nova 2 never really enjoyed the modern combat, felt really awkward to play. Probably the best part of the phone is being able to play ANY emulator on your phone at perfect speed with a proper gamepad, doesnt get much better than that! Personally loving the playstation emulator and snes! - Kes

Im very disapointed in the way gameloft have applied the right touch pad, all they have done is use it to emulate screen swipes, i dont understand why they cannot use it to emulate an analogue stick like they do with the left one! Like on battle bears

Faster? I don't find that. If the guy is behind you then you have to swipe a lot of times. By then you are as good as dead.

This.
Swipe look is rubbish. It's the one and only thing that ruins fps's enjoyability on the Xperia Play for me at the moment.
Unfortunately Gameloft is only FPS option at the moment. Just like the Ipad 2. They make all these grand promises of great games like Infinity blade yet there hasn’t been any games like it since.
Edit: Has anyone tried Modern Warfare 2?
You guys are screwed the new PSP is on its way and it stole all marketing from the play. Actually the play had a great buzz as far as the web goes but that's as far as it went.

You are right but I did buy the phone for more. I was hoping for PSP games like God Of War. If it doesn't get any more support I may switch back to my 3GS and give this one to my daughter to play games on.
Finally got around to playing Rainbow 6 (great that it was free!).
Seems like top fun online.
Went in blind, straight into multiplayer not know controls etc and managed 11 kills and 12 deaths on the Play. That might not seem good, but it's good for me in an FPS.
Also turned the horrid music off, made it feel a bit like Counterstrike...how good would that be on Android btw?
Can see myself playing Rainbow 6 a lot now.

The PSVita and the XPlay are two entirely different devices. The Xplay replaces your phone, ergo you have it on you at all time. It's not a gaming beast like the PSVita, but the battery lasts all day, you can do all your phone stuff on it, and when you are in the mood for games there are a myriad of choices and they all play awesome because you have physical buttons rather than just a touch screen.
The PSVita is great for places where you actually plan to bring it. Like flights, ferry rides, etc

I only bought the phone for emulators originally. I didnt even care about the playstation store. All i wanted to do was play some snes/megadrive/mame games on my telephone. You can not play these games on touchscreen only. Totally uncontrollable.
Didnt even know gameloft were porting to the xperia play. Got alot more than i bargained for. Some (Most?) Gameloft games are very awesome.
Being able to play mobile phone games and even browse the internet with the control pad is way better and more fun than any touch screen only on the market atm.

The Play has had much better support than I thought it would, just GameLoft games have been keeping me busy. Its only been out two months give it time.

1.Modern Combat 4
Give me "thanks" from that button!
.
yes
1) Modern combat 4: MMOFPS - Nearly an exact clone of the cod series. Supports excellent 1080p graphics (on certain devices). Multiplayer is very stable/campaign is awesome; and with a dual shock 3 controller and custom touch emulation through sixaxis it feels more like a console then anything.
2) Order and chaos: MMORPG - If you like WoW or similar games this is it. It's exactly like WoW. Outstanding graphics, tons of players, etc. Easily addicting for any mmorpg lover. Very polished controls and UI.
3) Ravensword: Shadowlands: Sandbox RPG - Probably the best graphics I've seen on mobile yet. Elder scroll based game. Open world, cliche leveling and tree system. Ability to play in both 1st and 3rd person perspectives. Large world map, etc.
My top 3 games, though modern combat 5 is due to release sometime soon before the end of the year.

Cool, well, there's 3 steps (Depending on how long since you've played).
The game, the 2.6 upgrade, the 2.6b patch and then punkbuster.

on my evo i play castlevania - symphony of the night and tony hawk pro skater 1 2 and 3 via psx4droid playstation emu. cuz its free
haven't played much lately, but mostly MW series, Battlefield. Used to play a decent amount of wow. (there. I said it. ) The later is the only one that I played a lot online without serious nerdrage when getting fragged by 12 yr olds.
I played WoW for about a week, then realized it was so totally boring, I wanted to shove nails in my eyes....
Bad Company 2 xbox 360
I own a Sony Xperia Play r800i unlocked on T-mobile US and I also own a HTC Sensation 4G.
Now the Sensation of course has a slightly bigger screen at 4.3 inches and the screen is a bit darker being QHD vs the Play's LCD i believe.
But I am trying to decide which phone I should keep and which phone I should sell and i was playing with both phones at the same time and I noticed that my Sensation is sometimes right on spar speedwise and often times behind the Xperia Play.
Which is baffling b/c the Sensation is 1.2 GhZ dualcore vs the Play's 1GHZ single-core.
Example:
Launching both HTC Contacts & Sony Contacts, the Play always loads the same contact faster. Sense tends to have to "load" the contact for a second or two when the play automatically launches it.
I'm using Go launcher on both with the same theme and the rotate times on both phones is equal though at times the play tends to rotate faster and the app drawer opens faster.
But the Speed of the browser is what baffled me the most. Now the Sensation is 4G so i didn't use T-mobile network speed. I used my own wifi connection to test the browsers.
I went to 3 different sites with both phones at the same time and loaded the pages. Flash was enabled on both phones and the Play loaded faster. Granted the Sensation did start showing pictures and text first by the end of the load times, the play loaded faster.
So how is this possible that a 1GHZ phone can best a Dualcore phone? I wish I still had my Galaxy S2 to test it.
Have you tried your phone against Dual-core phones?
Personally i am a bit torn on which to keep.
The Play does work out of the box the way it should however the Cameras on the front and back are awful though the Sensation is only slightly better....
The Sensation is an attractive device with a slightly brighter and bigger screen but at the same time it can be slow and the call quality is not great at all tbh.
It's OKAY but eh.
I wish I could root them both to see which is better but no clue where to begin.
Have you tried your phone against Dual-core phones?
if your having trouble choosing then you arent really thinking about the main advantage of the play (the game pad) wish is amazing and makes this the best phone i could get.
while a phone may appear to be better on paper doesnt make it better i gladly choose the play over a galaxy s2.
let me use an example
playing emulated sonic 1 on gensoid
sensation
screen first
4.3 inch screen but you lose some of this due to using the screen for buttons so it you can see all of it constantly so the screen losses upto a inch in the corners where your fingers are covering the on screen buttons.
processor
no benefit of the dual core at all as even a 600mhz arm6 single core can emulate it perfectly
x play
full use of the 4 inch screen as fingers are on a dedicated touch pad which makes playing 3v easier and nicer
processor
1ghz single core i havent had any issues playing any games even n64 ones. a freind has a galaxy s2 with dead space and the gameplay is just as smooth as it.
touch pad
its just simply amazing for games that are compatible
Oh i did forget to list that as a Pro. The Gamepad is a plus to me(though it isn't good at playing for long periods of times)
I play Gameboid on my Sensation and while the screen is bigger, the buttons are white thus they tend to blend in with my screen so it is hard to see the game controls.....
I honestly can't even remember what it was about the Play I hated in the first place.....Aside from this horrible camera. Like i literally can not remember. I just got both phones about 2 weeks ago and I have 17 days to return the play back to Amazon. I brought the Sensation off Ebay so I am sort of stuck with it unless I sell it to eat the cost of the play(I'll still be out like 100 bucks though...eh)
Is it true AND Confirmed playstation suite is coming to our phones in the next couple of weeks? Or is it still a rumor?
What all will that bring to the phone?
Keep the Xperia Play. The camera is not that bad 5 megapixel and 720p video recording as well as physical buttons !
Trust me the physical buttons makes all the difference when playing games you don't wanna be covering half of the screen when playing games do ya ?
while playstation suite isnt confirmed you can safely bet it will come to us since we are the flagship device and the biggest audience they have

Someone needs to make a portable device that allows you to insert a SIM and bluetooth out to other devices supporting UART profile[for general GSM commands, SMS, whatnot] & Audio profile(? for voice talk/call).
Bundle with an app to parse these and wuala, you got yourself a generic telephone-bluetooth thingy that pairs with any device(that supports the proper bluetooth profiles) [come to think of it, almost little to no device support these profiles hmm no wonder this kind of device dont exists in the marke *runs for cover*]

Regarding its TV connecting feature, it seem alternatively you can just connect your PC or Game Console to the TV and use a bluetooth/wireless gamepad. It said it has the feature like OnLive, but you need to have an nVidia video card (which mean also a running PC), and even if it can stream the game over 3G/4G network and use it outside your home, would the latency be better than OnLive? I think yes actually. But really I don't see a compelling reason to get this unless you want Tegra exclusive games, since you can just use a highend Android phone or tablet and a bluetooth gamepad, which can still be more pocket-able than this device: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1703567677/icontrolpad-2-the-open-source-controller

This thing is nothing like those wannabes, this is the first real contender for a succesor that we've ever seen. We always joke about how the Play 2 would have a Tegra 3, 2 gigs of ram, hdmi out, play pc games, and so forth, but this thing is a godamn Tegra 4 launch device with EVERY feature on all of our fantasy checklists and then some! Be able to call. It ain't a successor if it ain't able to call. And fit in my pants for that matter.
Is 2013 the year for Android home gaming consoles or something? First the OUYA now this? I respect the fact they're trying to give people more variety over tradition game consoles. But I mean... are Android games REALLY that good? I mean if your on the go, you pull out your phone and play MC3 or whatever, when your home wouldn't you much rather play xbox or something? Or even connect your phone via HDMI (excluding XP obviously) to your TV? I just don't think android games are THAT good to have home consoles dedicated to them.
If they made a smaller version that incorporates a phone then I'd definitely be interested.

The Streaming system is like having kainy App. But more perfect.
What intrigues me is how you configure the controls? have its own mapping system too??
As I see console games perfect.
But for uses such as messages and calls I doubt,
It depends on the point of view,
But as I said, as a console, would be perfect.
I hope they are not using there own chipsets because android apps don't run the best on tegra chipsets they have been shown to run the best on snapdragon

Again, pointless to compare this to Xplay.
This is one big bulky controller with integrated screen.
Xperia Play is essentialy phone and has very convenient desing when it comes to gamepad, you can "hide" it if you want.
And again, Sony didnt say "we wont be making Xperia Play 2"
The anwser was something along the lines "we currently are not making Xperia Play" which rather means they were not working on new model, not that they ditched the whole idea.
I already argued in one of the threads that Sony WILL make new Play. They have everything they need right now or under development like new, mature hardware/technology (reason #1 N-GAGE and N-GAGE2 failed), Software which is not all supported by one model (#2 why N-GAGE failed) and a position to get enough regonizion for their device.
Playstation Mobile is still under development so I guess we can start waiting for XP2 after they get PSM fully geared and proper hardware (for that time) ready. Give it year or two.
