Hi,
I'm relatively new to the whole customising the HTC/Dopod phones for starters.
Now my problem started with my old OS (WM6.1 Pro) which was installed on the phone when I purchased it started locking up.
I then went to refresh the ROM and flashed it with the OEM ROM from HTC, only to find it back dated it to WM6 (how disappointed I was).
After much searching on this site I finally came across one ROM that appealed to me with the features it contained and the way it was presented (WM 6.1.0.4.7.5 Digital.rar http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=494727).
After sucessfully flashing the ROM I had to get hold of my network provider (Optus Australia) to get the service settings for using internet/mms services.
They tried to send me them through their automatic way (assuming sms based), however failed relentlessly. Eventually I got sent a PDF to explain how to do this.
Now here it comes. I followed the instructions, however now my phone will only connect to GPRS and never 3G or HSDPA.
Could someone please help me out and let me know if it could be the ROM I'm using (if so, could someone link me to a ROM for 6.1 Pro with similar features that will rectify the issue), I need an extra CAB to install (if so, where do I get it?) or if the settings they gave me are just GPRS settings (if so, is anyone able to provide the correct setting?).
I realise this is one rather lengthy post, and I do apologise, though much appreciation to anyone who can assist and Ihave done my best to give the information required.
Here is the link for the PDF that I was sent containing the instructions.
(Apologies for it being a megaupload.com link, the file was 5kb too big to attach)
Regards, Bryan
Don't worry, all fixed.
I found the issue lay within the Network Settings. Somehow the "Network Selection" had been set to "GSM" and not "Auto".
With this now set to "Auto" and the setting given by the provider (in the link provided above), I was able to rectify the issue.
Any Optus customers (Pre-Paid or Post Paid) feel free to download the manual I uploaded for future reference of Gateways and IP adresses for GPRS/WAP/HTTP/MMS settings and usage.

okay. so after using faria's the real thing rom i saw that i could no longer send or receive mms messages. i used the tmobile usa settings from the tmobile website help system to no avail. kept getting wierd errors ("answering machine is busy and/or system has hung up") so i dropped back to stock tmobile 2.26 official rom. sending of mms resumed to normal and then today, wamo!, no more sending/receiving mms but this time no error messages other than "message could not be sent". the tmobile rom i flashed had the standard tmobile settings already and i made no changes to networking as far as i know. looking at the system it appears i am using:
radio 02.25.11
rom 2.26.10.2 WWE
arcsoft is my messaging app (from tmobile rom)
i also installed batterystatus 1.04.201 beta3, tcpmp, some google apps (yes they worked yesterday, and no, they do not work today unless i choose wifi).
steps i have done to figure it out:
1) searched forums and found a few posts/threads but they were not helpful for me because not the same issue, or the magical "nm i fixeded it!" posts with no description of what they did.
2) did test msgs with friends on tmobile. all could send receive but me. they do not use wm5 phones so that leads me to think there is a setting i fuxored on my phone somehow.
3) called csr for tmobile
4) did clean button - lokiwiz - tmobile official 2.26 rom. with same issues. yes i am sim/sid unlocked.
so my questions are (finally) this:
1) what troubleshooting can i do to find the culprit?
2) are there other messaging apps that collate all mms and sms (i dont use outlook)?
3)is this just a regional hiccup and not my phone setup? yes i called tmobile and they have no outages reported in my area (tampa, fl), but hey, they also said i can use 3G on my phone, so you never know .
wow. that was a lot.
anyway, thanks for any help or tips in advance
with fairs rom i had the same mms problems. also had a GPRS problem with the auto configurations. the t-mobile site is wrong with the gateway settings for mms. they list .050 when it should end in .50 there are is a topic about this.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298222
that should help you with both your problems.
yep. right after i posted this someone else put up a post about it and solved it.
amazing that they put the wrong ip addy on the tmobile site. fixed and working great now.
Just flashed 6.5 on my phone 24 hours ago (thanks to a few of you on here) but can't get MMS to work. As a matter of fact, I don't even see it as an option in any of the menus. Is there anyone out there who has been able to install an external MMS pack with their 6.5 and get it to WORK? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
i am sorry, but the rules of this forum demand you search first, use forum search, use google, look it up in the wiki!
this exact same question came up on 04/02, 3 days ago. but anyway, i'm not here to give you a speech about that. let me explain it to you:
mms is more than just another mail account, it has complex settings and rules and you need to set up rules for sending and receiving that are not comparable to e-mail accounts. that is why, even if you knew all the settings for your carrier in your country, you would have no success in creating a new account. there is a program out there called arcsoft mms, (which i recommend you to use as a search phrase next time ) it is about 2mb, you can download it here: http://www.megaupload.com/pl/?d=DQEKP22D i haven't tested it myself, but the link is given in the wm6.5 21198 thread and the filename is sprintmms. you install the cab and this will create the account for you and make basic settings, you still have to set your country specific and carrier specific settings, which you can look up on your carriers site. if you can't find it, post again and i will look it up.
have fun with it

Hey,
I recently bought an unlocked htc wing from overstock.
Also know as the herald, and the XDA Terra.
I'm just trying to unlock the full abilities of the phone so i can use the web and mms.
I am using an at&t sim card.
This was a huge upgrade from my lg xenon (phone was piece of crap!)
The wing is running windows mobile 6.
If anyone can help me it would be very appreciated!
I understand that i have to change some settings, but i need help!
Solution for unlocking !

Not quite sure why the poster above gave you information to unlock your unlocked phone. I am using my wing on At&t as well. To get the network setup all you need is a .cab file called, Network Wizard.
http://rapidshare.com/files/66087193/HTC_Network_Wizard_KAISER_1_0_29981_1.cab
Click on the link to download. Install on Wing and select the country and carrier and it automatically configures the device for you. I do suggest you delete old connection profiles like the t-mobile or any others you created just to speed up the actual connection process to the internet. If for some reason Network Wizard does not work properly you can manually edit the settings to connect to At&t. Here is what I used in the past before finding the Network Wizard.

For MMS all you need to install is ArcSoft. Do a search and you will easily find the .cab file for installation. That cab will give you fully functioning MMS with threaded messaging (see the whole conversation).
Good luck.
Hi all, first of all i'd like to say you're all doing an amazing job!
Basically I have a HTC HD2 ROM with the T-Mobile UK stock ROM.
This ROM has been tweaked (made worse) by T-Mobile, for example removing YouTube and turning Opera into Web'n'Walk.
The issue is that T-Mobile disallows us to download the ROM's from the official HTC website because T-Mobile need to re-release this ROM with its restrictions. The problem is that 4 months after the first ROM release, and newer versions constantly appearing, T-Mobile has not even released one newer ROM version for us to download. I was wondering how/if I could download a ROM from here and if this would make the phone stop working? I am aware this will void my warranty but this isn't of a great concern to me.
I am mostly concerned that I will no longer be able to send messages and make phone calls with T-Mobile if I download a cooked ROM.
My ROM is version 1.43.110.2 (70315) WWE
Thanks, Cristian
hey...
I had the same rom as you (tmobile uk upgrade)
I have flashed about 8 roms so far so no worries there
HSPL
Hi mate I bought mu HD 2 from my friend T-MOBILE ugrade 350 £ btw and a just use HSPL after install official rom 1.66 radio too and now just testing cooked ROM and got no problemas at all ! And I am oringe customer fast internet perfect signal almost everywhere ...
Goodluck
Hi thanks for your responses that was really fast
I've seen that I can download HSPL from XDA so there's no problem there i'll follow the instructions posted.
So once I install the HSPL I can simply download the ROM from the HTC Website?
I was just worried that installing a new ROM would clear the settings set by T-Mobile such as text messaging and making calls? If this is the case then is there any way to restore them?
Thanks again
Your sim card contains all the data needed for the phone to set up data and sms and the like.
If it doesnt, there are hundreds of threads on how to manually enter data connections.(2 minute job)
Thanks for your reply, I have just installed the HSPL.
When I enter my serial number into the HTC website it says it is invalid (this is because of T-Mobile) Do you know how can I work around this?
I'm really sorry for all the questions I'm new at this
bump bump bump
Thats because your serial is still invalid, even though you installed HSPL.It always will be.
Go to the official roms thread in the rom development section,
first post, first link. Look through the folders for the rom you want. (I suspect you want the 1.66 folder, look for the wwe rom.)
I have just updated to official ROM 1.66 from this website
I am able to make and send both calls and texts but the Internet connection is no longer working. How do I attain these settings?
T-Mobile UK
Please help
Many thanks
fisrt - go to settings tab - menu - all settings - connections - connection setup.
Run that.
If that doesnt do it,
settings tab - menu - all settings - connections - connections - and in the mobile web settings set up a new data connection, using the data you find HERE
Also worth looking in start menu, scroll to end, have a look for a branded 'sim card' style icon, probably called just 'T Mobile' that is put there by your sim card. Give that a try.
There is no sim card style icon or any t-mobile related in the start menu
I have typed those settings, twice, the phone connects successfully to the network, but only for a minute before disconnecting. It simply keeps disconnecting after a minute or so
t mo put a proxy in with their settings
settings tab - menu - all settings - connections - connections - tap manage existing connection - jump to the proxy tab and untick 'this connection proxy blablah'
Give that a try.
that doesnt work either, any ideas?
Very odd that it should connet and then disconnect a minute or so later. It isn;t just closing because it's idle, is it? Can you surf while its active?
thanks for all your help by the way
i dont think so because its not idle, it stops midway while being used.
i had to recover my phone using microsoft my phone in chunks..
yeah i can surf but only for a little bit
very odd. Just so you can double check, here is the info as i would put it in. (Im sure you got it right, just being thorough)
settings - menu - all settings - connections - connections - add a new modem connection (in the mobile web section)
(If you want to delete your other one, choose manage existing and switch to the general tab and choose delete settings.)
enter any name you want.
line type - celular line (GPRS)
next
access point name is - general.t-mobile.uk
next
user name - user
password - wap
*** ive just read in another thread that the password is pass for contract so try that ***
domain - leave blank
lol, also just came across this
GPRS Internet service
Access point: general.t-mobile.uk
User name: user
Password: one2one
heh, sadly im not on t mo so i cant test them for you.
if you put general.t-mobile.uk into google, you will find lots of pages of info about setting up data.
im trying it with the password as 'pass'
looks promising, ill post back in a minute =]
you absolute legend it works
it didnt work at first after i changed the password
but i stumbled upon a menu in which 'automatically retrieve internet settings' was checked, so i looked back to where i typed in 'pass' and it looked like ***********.
so i unticked the box and changed the password back to pass, again
it works.
thanks so much
very very very impressed
heh winner, and no worries. On the plus side if you have to do it again it will be easy!
Hi everyone
I have searched through numerous forum post and development websites to find these answers (has taken a couple of weeks, with no help from $&% Telstra), so I thought I would put them all in one post. I don't take credit for any of the work arounds, I just figure there is a lot of individual posts without the answers in one spot.
Tip 1:
Don't use the default GMAIL settings as this doesn't allow you to actually specify to connect to 'The Internet' and is default set to Telstra Internet (was for me anyway). There is a good step by step guide on the GMAIL website - create a new acounnt but the key is to not enter gmail.com as your email address as it automatically detects the settings and masks/blocks the advanced screen. By following this, I could then have GMAIL on my WiFi with no data plan enabled (long story)
Tip 2:
Do this to configure a new Telstra Data connection as the default one can't be modified:
(link to be approved so msg me and I will send in mean time)
However make sure the 'This network uses a proxy...' part isn't checked, opposite to the guide on the above link.
Doing this actually meant my GMAIL could now connect using the DATA plan but by default used the WiFi when it was connected.
Tip 3
The ActiveSync and Exchange part is by default configured to Telstra's dedicated email plan. On my phone there was actually a PDF on the storage card about this and also a step by step guide on how to configure your ActiveSync/Exchange to connect through the normal internet, not through Telstra's plan. However, as I have seen many similar examples on the internet, following this procedure was great except the settings would not save. Changing from 'Dedicated' to 'Internet' never actually accepted.
I was determined to figure this out, so installed a registry editor. With some snooping I found enough information to be dangerous and did some searching, and found this link:
(link to be approved so msg me and I will send in mean time)
If you go to the bottom about Network Registry Settings, the key one is:
HKLM\System\ActiveSync\SyncAPN
By changing this to 0, my 'Internet' setting would save for the ActiveSync/Exchange and sure enough, connection to my exchange server was succesful.
CeRegEditor is the program I found really simple to use.
Tip 4
Install these two free applications for Data Connection management
Good for Enabling/Disabling Data Connections - DataController.CAB
I don't fully understand the full power of this one, but it is good to see what is happening and has an auto disconnect: BandSwitch.V2.8.CAB that is mentioned in the registry tips/tweaks section, tip 50 or somewhere there abouts.
Tip 5
Cookies Home Tab - sensational!!
Tip 6
Unlock the quicklinks (plenty of posts on how to do this) and also remove the non-used Telstra Home-Tabs (well I don't use them as they always have a wap redirect to m.bigpond.com)
Tip 7
If you are facebook user, check out the 'touch' version. Go to m.facebook.com and down the bottom there is a link to facebook touch
So that is about it for now, following all the above, after a hard reset worked a treat without having to install a non-telstra ROM.
Hope this helps, like I said, I don't really know all the details of the work arounds, more just posting them all in one spot for future frustrated people with the Telstra version. I am loving the phone now (also have followed other registry tips from this site).
Happy using and massive thanks to all of you who actually did figure out the solutions!
Jason
Thanks for this.
The Dedicated/Internet drop down box does work without the reg hack but it resets itself back to dedicated.
I found also that I had to make a new connection to telstra.iph for activesync to stay connected when the screen was off.
Woudl greatly appreciate if you could send me the missing details above. I have not managed to get WMDC to recognise the phone yet so can't, and not keen to yet anyway, replace the Telstra ROM.
i get "Access Denied" when i try the registry hack, anyone else come across this?
I did get that, within the Registry Editing software there is an option to unlock the registry, once you do that you can then change the settings!

Problem with Telstra Connection

Hello, I have the Telstra T9193 here in Argentina and I want to use with other internet carrier, I configured the connection and Internet is working fine but I can't check the emails....
So I think that the problem is the default Telstra connection, maybe only the ROM permit use this connection to check emails.
Could you know something about it?
Thanks
Hi Diegogleo
Which email are you trying to check? Webmail like GMAIL or Hotmail or a separate pop3 account?
If it is hotmail, the default windows live setup seems to work fine.
You have to change the settings of your email account to use 'Internet' not 'Telstra Internet' (or whatever pre-programmed data connection might exist). That way, when you are in WiFi or using your Mobile Providers Data, you can pick email up.
If it is exchange mail, you will have to do the registry edit above.

Hi Jason...thx for the GMail solution. Still haven't gotten it to work and it is most frustrating. I have another question...what is the correct procedure for installing these .cab files? Again...something else i've tried and doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated!
Cheers
