External Accelerometer.. plausible? - Touch CDMA General

I read somewhere (ppc geeks or here) about someone working on an external accelerometer. Does anybody know if it worked? I've been doing research myself and I'm just not familiar with windows mobile and the way the vogue uses the USB port. Does winmo have "joystick" drivers? does anybody know if you can connect periphreals to the vogue/winmo?

NOT LIKELY TO HAPPEN. There was a project trying to get a Wii remote to work with the Dell Axim but I don't think that went very far.

Actually, this is extremely plausible.
Sitting right here in the work lab, I have prefab prototype boards with accelerometers on them that output serial data, and a bluetooth prototype board that takes serial data and spits it over SPP bluetooth.
It's then just a matter of, in software, taking that data and converting it to the format that internal accelerometers would use, and putting it in the same place.
Just as a proof of concept, I took a pretty expensive inertial measurement unit (3 accelerometer axes, 3 gyroscope axes and 3 magnetic compass axes, built in SPP bluetooth module: worth about $500 - take that, iPhone users) and just paired that to my phone. It works and I get data streams off of it, but I have neither the time nor inclination (nor the necessary mobile development skills) to write software for it.

Cool! I was looking into something similar, albeit on a smaller budget. I'm going to ask around to codybear or some other experienced winmo programmer to see about getting some code written.

Well obviously an IMU well suited to flying a UAV isn't the best piece of equipment for this job, but if we strip it down to the really essential components
The bluetooth radio (I've got a list price of $34 for a single unit)
The sensor (I've got a 3-axis 1.2g sensitivity unit listed for $40)
A microcontroller to turn the analog output from the sensor into a useful TTL (serial) stream ($2 buys you one that's complete and total overkill for this)
Just add a custom PCB to mount it all to - I reckon we're only looking at a few square inches, a few extra components to deal with electrical supply, some ninja soldering skill, some microcontroller programming skillz, some smartphone programming skillz, and the whole thing could plausibly cost about $80 if you were only building one prototype (and etched the circuit board yourself)

but scrapped the project because of something that made it not work and was really hard not to get it working. haha.
That sounds like I don't know what I'm talking about, but there was a big discussion I had with Whosdaman (I believe) at ppcgeeks, and he explained it in technical terms.
Short answer is, no.
It's possible, but you'd end up paying more for the item than just upgrading due to the time it takes to engineer the drivers for the phone, program for the phone to run it, etc etc.
Search at ppcgeeks and you should be able to find the conversation.

a 'remote' challenge!

Hi all
Don't know how many of you guys are ipaq transferees like myself, but there is one piece of software on the ipaq that has not been adopted in the XDA series handhelds, namely REVO - the remote control tool.
Anybody into gadgets in the way that we are will have too many remote controls lying about. This tool allowed me to put them on a shelf, and use them very rarely.
So.....
Does anybody have a clue how to extract it from the ipaq ready to be placed on the XDA II. NAturally, owning both devices, one would assume that providing I use it with either one or the other, you can provide this useful information conscience clear!!!!

Unfortunately, the Himalaya infrared hardware is not capable of communicating with customer devices like TV sets. There is nothing any software could do about this - only some hardware change can help.

Also some Ipaq's Irda are just very powerfull made..have a range of 10-15 meters.
Normally pda Irda's have a range of 2-3 meters.

I am surprised that the range is so different between devices. I understood that the infra red transmit distance was usually further than the receive. Would this be applicable to the XDA II I wonder. I will run some experiments with a phone to see if I can assess distances.
Had a look at the PDA Win software, looks quite functional, perhaps not as slick as the built ipaq version. 30cm range... doh!
They seem to have specifically excluded the XDA II. I wonder if this is a range issue as you guys have suggested.

Well, TVs use "consumer" infrared, while PDAs use "IrDA". See here for a more detailed explanation. It has nothing to do with the power or the range of the IR LEDs and phototransistors.

and yet i had pdawinøs software working ok on my xda1
and also used it to comm with my laptop so some infrared classify as
both IrDA and consumer
if the range is ok then the only difference i can think of is protocol and that should be possible to work out so that software would work on the xda2
i also had my trusting old hp48 calc working as a remote at a time
prob still have the software somewhere

I would have to side with Rudegar on this one, as I have not only used the Ipaq for several consumer devices but the extremely fundamental Palm III (aahhhh those were the days, when a calculator was considered to be a posh option.
I would say, however, that neither successfully worked with a sky remote, which I wonder may be due to two-way data transfer. I wonder if this is the IrDA vs Consumer difference.
I read the link to the Irda page, which as you suggest states that the two are different. I would agree that the two standards are different, but unless built-in hardware compatability is provided to the majority of pda's, there must be a way of emulating the consumer device within the IrDa protocols.
Hmmm... A little out of my depth on this one. Hopefully somebody else can explain!!

The xda 1 I have works fine as a remote control for my tv and dvd etc, I use "learning2 mode to program the xda using the original remote handset. The xda 2 however is total crap as a remote, however if you wish to use it from one position, for instance the couch in your living room, there is a device called an infra red repeater, this allows you to operate an infra red device from a greater distance, I will see if I can find a name for manufacturer but I am sure this device exists, its selling point was enabling you to operate your cable/sattelite box from upstairs even when you had no line of sight to the box. It was a money saver because you could connect your cable/satellite to your upstairs tv instead of having to purchase a second box from the provider and be able to change channels from upstairs.

I wouldlike to get inside the discusion because I have almost the same problem and I would like some help.
I also found the hard way that the XDA II does not work as a remote control, then I found this Total Remote software and module that really got myself impressed, I bought it and also the adaptor for the audio output.
Now I am able to output the signals without problem, the software works very fine and control the eletronic equipments without any problem.
But then I got to test the learning mode and then my problems started. The XDA II canot learn nothing! It wont recognize any kind of command that comes from any remote controler. To make sure it was not a problem of the software I tested to more diferent remote controler softwares and they also does not learn. What really make me disapointed is that even touching the controler IR led with the XDAII IRda port, the XDA II can´t learn anything.
I already tried to disable the "receive all incoming beans" and do a soft reset, but this also does not worked.
I am writing this in the hope I am forgetting something and one of you give me any more idea.
OR
To also ask for the more experts, if it is possible to substitute the IRda port with a common IR led found on any remote controler (of course doing some soldering). If there is compactibility between them, I think I will give it a go, since I really whant a remote control on my XDA II.

thats what i've been saying all along
the xda2's ir modules is not the default ir module which all the remote software is written for
the remote applications would have to be written directly for the modules ir in the xda2 for it to work
i've come across no such applications as of yet

Consumer infrared

One thing I've been wondering about is where people got the notion that the Universal supports consumer IrDA. I've been checking the specsheets of the JasJar and the MDA Pro and none gives the impression that it actually contains that.
Also, no remote control application is bundled with either of these devices (something you would expect if it were present). As a last note, the infrared port (if it were consumer IR ready) is in an awkward position (facing the user when typing on the keyboard).
Am I missing something here (I'd love to be proven wrong)?

The JJ does have Consumer IR. I have used an application called Novii Remote (absolutely fantastic) and it has around 10m range! Very happy to see this integrated

Now the question here is: is it Consumer IR modulated onto a FIR IrDA bearer? As you may or may not know, to run consumer IR you need to include a high-power IR-LED (the little bulb at the front of your average remote control) to gain enough power.
I'm thinking that this is what is happening, as I cannot think of any other reason why the vendors wouldn't list this as one of the features. Check their webpages out: not a single mention.
If the modulated ConsumerIR works with a 10m range, then I'm a happy camper as well, don't get me wrong. It just may prove slightly more finnicky with certain equipment.
I actually tried it with various electronics.
Most of the remote control softwares for the PPC have an option to "teach" the device to control your electronics. Thats exactly what i did. For those devices which were not on the list, i just used the "teach" function for eg. PS2 and so on...

Pocket PC Router Application?

How hard would it be, to write a semi-universal application for the WinCE environment, to simply emulate a router? I know a little C/C++, but nothing else. I say bypass this BT garbage.
What you would need hardware wise IMO,
Have GRPS/EDGE or some other true 3G data connection... and 802.11b or g, with a chipset that can go into AP mode (which I think I read that the wizard's chip technically can, and same with the H6315 25 45 models).
Then enough ram and CPU left over to do basic routing and DHCP to any clients around you. Viola, handheld, portable router all in one! It would sell like hotcakes, especially for some of our companies events (outdoor sports promotions). It would also make it very universal, at least to clients, if not a couple PPC servers with the right hardware.
I really really hate bluetooth. The ONLY bt devices that have not given me much grief, is an old Jabra Bt200 headset, and an altina USB GPS mouse (with iguidance mapping software). I have had 3 sets/brands of A2DP headsets, another USB mouse that never worked right, numerous dongles to numerous PC builds to share different things... all worked not at all or mediocrely at best. I have also owned an Axim X50, and and X5 (with CF bluetooth).
There is no standard interface, or guarantee with bt, it's just mostly bad luck and voodoo out of the box, and the company hoping you will forget to return their "best effort" product. I don't blame them. I blame widcomm, broadcom, and MS, for their stupid BT stacks, with separate capabilities, millions of version/build numbers, license issues, and general apathy for creating a solid standard product. In a way, MS tries to do this... by cutting out 90% of BT proported features it seems LOL!. If I wanted diversity (aka headaches) in something computer related, It would not be BT, it would be Linux, which somehow works most of the time, and if not, you can make it work... because it's OPEN. Dumb dll's.
This is worse than IRQ conflicts with ISA cards back in the early 90's. Then plug and pray came to save us... and it took like 6 years! How long has BT been out?

This sounds like a very interesting idea. You may not even need a 802.11x chip that can do AP mode. As long as it can do ad-hoc, you should be able to do something simmlar to ICS in desktop windows.

Modding the X1 hardware for tv-out :)

I know this has been up before, and I've read pretty much every thread regarding the non-existent TV-Out function on X1. But it has made me curious enought to want to attempt a mod if such a thing is possible.
What I understand the X1 has the hardware for TV-Out, but not the functionality implemented. So somewhere along the hardware line, the function is disabled on purpose/not enabled. Chances are, HTC saved in a few cents on the connector itself for example, and that's where the missing hardware line is
Now, most people say the X1 shares the hardware with X2, I'd like to know to what extent and if someone has pictures of an opened X2 to share, it would help out alot. Specially pictures around the 3,5mm connector and connections around it, but also the pictures of the entire mainboard.
If I can find an easy enough way to resolder some new connector/parts, I will def. do so, with full documentation over how to do it. I say harder things have been accomplished before. It all comes down to the differences/similarities in X1/X2 hardware.
PS. I might be taking water over my head here, but I'm one of those guys who got his X1 on day 1, trusting the words of SE about TV-Out, DLNA etc etc. And if there is a 10% chance to achieve this, I will try it.

i wouldn't say it's impossible, but it's some hard piece of reverse engineering the hardware of X1.
From my point of view somebody has to rip off the MPU and the PM chip and trace the dedicated pins/signals to find out if there's a connection to these signals somewhere on the mainboard. That's the first part
Once you know how to attach some hardware to the signals, you'll need some driver code implemented to support TVout on X1
Anyway here's a basic schematic of TVout for MSM7200!

Panapacific DEA600 head unit and smart touch screen...

I just bought a brand new Kenworth W900, and it has android auto (or something mimicing it) built in... A panapacific dea600... the major problem is it super kludge... amongst being terribly locked down, i cannot connect to an ad hoc wifi thru my windows 10 laptop (that is tethered to my S6 with easy tether)... my tablet can connect to the ad hoc no problems, and my stereo can see the network but cannot connect to it for some reason (i REALLY need to update the trucks GPS maps, and have you tried to use a truck stops wifi? (like dial up))... id really just like access to the OS or another launcher so i can add some apps that i need (no not facebook or stuff like that) and perhaps root and rom it....
its running android 4.2.2... and i can get you the entirely too long software version
Its sad really because this could be cutting edge stuff, but someone higher up had to come up with ways to neuter this damn thing... and look i get that there are things i shouldnt have access to while driving, but it DOES have android web browser built in so its not like they dont want us using it...
i dont expect the world as this unit has only been shipping with trucks for a few months... and many of you may not have come across it... but perhaps it shares hardware with another system and panapacific just stole it (it HAS happened many times)

I just came across your note while search for this product - I was the software architect/tech lead for the supplier company providing the Android port and the Freescale SOM component of the display screen on this product line - although moved on shirtly after the system went to mass production. - it is awesome to see someone here discuss it!
You are very correct on a lot of you assumptions and assessments. it was a very ambitious project that really tried to leverage as much of what Android was capable of at the time it was planned, but tuned to work as a smart display for commercial vehicles.
The display is only a part of a system of components. The display runs a port of Android 4.2.2 - but highly tailored to its environment - pairs with the Delphi radio unit (as a peer, not as an accessory) and is toghtly coupled to the unit in production. as a security measure.
unfortunately for what you are looking for, though much of the upgrade and app installation capabilities have been locked down to prevent side loading or execution of "unauthorized" apps that don't have special keys fro. the OEM or manufacturer. even if installed, the system manager will kill any apps that are launched without keys.
you may be able to get a developer key from the OEM but I don't know how they chose to mange that in the final system.
thanks for the posting, though - it was a small run comparatively for android systems but it was a pretty damn cool system with what we did get working....

i have same head unit in my 389 pride and class peterbilt, for the map part, that you can update by connecting it to your phones internet, either wifi hot spot if not then just connect it with bluetooth and use bluetooth tethering of phone and PAN of your DEA600, but main problem in the system is that you cant put a single thing without pulling breaks, and u cant download a single file by any means, it just displays error that unfortunately process.android. stopped or browser has stopped or settings has stopped. if any one figured out how to download anythimg in this little thing. please update
hello there. I have T-680 with DEA600. I had exactly the same problem and ended up taking my truck to a dealer. it turned out to be defected radio. After it was replaced, it would connect to a hotspot no problem ( im using htc 10).
I have the same unit in my W 900. It is a huge disappointment in many ways. First of all just like any factory radio I have ever seen in a commercial truck the sound quality is horrible. Second I don't like the fact that it locks so many functions when I am driving. I have a passenger that rides with me most of the time that is perfectly capable of safely operating those functions while I drive. This makes the GPS almost useless for the way I like to use a GPS. Good thing I still have my Garman. But really my biggest disappointment is the fact that I cannot get the gauges to work properly. It states that I can choose from over 30 gauges to be displayed however I have been unable to find any way to change from the six default gauges that are there. I have read the manual but it does not explain how to open the menu that lets you choose which gauges are there. I don't know if my unit is defective like one of a red one of yours was or if it just hasn't come out in an update yet. Also if I am reading this right it looks like my display and gauges function are tied to the stereo which means if I replace the head unit I'm going to lose that function. Am I reading that correctly?
Hey guys so a friend of mine has the DEA601 in his new truck and drives him nuts that the passenger cannot control things when its going faster than 5km hour (his old Peterbuilt worked fine).
I'm a software eng and would like to find out how to disable the Distracted Driver feature (like you can do in settings on many other Android Auto ROM's like Honda). What are my options here? a) Make a whole new ROM (but how to do that?) b) try to hexedit the existing ROM and find where the 5 km value is and modify it c) add an add-on app somehow to override this limit or d) other???
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I found out in order for the guages to work I need an $800 module my truck didn't come with. Now my biggest problem is the technology seems to have stagnated. The software on my phone and tablet are no longer very comparable with Android 4.2. I try my iPhone and my Android tablet and neither will play Pandora consistently. I am forced to use Bluetooth which looses sound quality on an already low quality stereo. I really wish Kenworth had spent their R &D on making their trucks compatible with idatalink like most aftermarket stereos use.
At this point I am torn between installing a hideaway marine stereo with a remote display and leaving this POS Pans Pacrapic as a display with nono sound. Or installing a line converter and amp and dealing with this clunky software. I wish someone would make a rom to upgrade this thing.

The electrical switch must be located behind the air brakes control knob. I'm sure if you pull the stereo out you will find the wires that control the disabling feature. The unit tries to "update" when connected to wifi. Maybe someone can use wireshark and grab the update packet and modify it with root installed. I'm ok with trying anything short of taking the unit apart and Jtag the firmware directly. Would love to see one taken apart.

This is a 2+ year old thread being g responded to.
What is your point? 2years later and still no solution to the problem. I ran across this thread of people discussing the same problems I'm having with the radio unit. If you got something usefull to add to this discussion then please feel free otherwise you don't need to acknowledge when what was posted that helps me null with my problem.
Anyone here figure anything out?

Hello! So I have little tech experience but I am willing to work with someone here to sort this out. Got a 17 w900 that I put a aftermarket double din in and retained smart nav for the gauges. What I did find was the screen (not the radio) gets a input from the wire harness off the ecm to give data to the screen. So I’ll attach a picture of the plug and maybe we can use this plus find it’s female counterpart then get the other end to plug into a maestro box? My Sony doesn’t have maestro. I do have a pioneer that does but can’t justify the cost being the Guinea pig. I’ve already been one of the first to get the tilt column to drop LOW and managed to fit a true 7” double din where the stupid nav was.
