Somehow I am not able to read the Windows-Help-article about those connection symbols anymore that show which kind of network is currently available.
I wanted to, because I noticed that my mobile really does not seem to use the UMTS bandwith. When checking the datatransfer-infor popup it tells "E-plus Internet (GPRS, 3G)". So for a while I figured it would be UTMS since that is supposed to be a 3G network. But the standard symbol in the topbar is a plain "G" and not a "3G" as I saw when being in the netherlands.
1) What exactly is "(GPRS, 3G)"?
2) What would I be able to read when it really is UMTS?
3) And what could be wrong if go to the help area, search for a keyword, find the article i look for but get something like "Kan Help niet openen. Kan bestand niet vinden -> Can't open help. Can't find the file." when i try to open it?
thanks

I cannot believe that there isn't a simple way to make a GPRS connection on the Universal or am I missing something here? I have to open Internet Explorer to get a connection . In WM 2003 the option to connect came up by tapping the Connectivity Icon on the top bar. GB-Soft Tweak allows GPRS Always On but still no way to turn it on by one click (or two).
Surely someone - Buzz, Vijay etc can sort this or is there already an answer out there that I've missed ?
If my memory serves me right, when I had my Blue Angel and wanted to manually connect to GPRS, I could click in the "G" icon in my title bar and I would get the option to connect to the GPRS setting that I had set up.
Now I have a T-Mobile Vario and WM5 - standard build etc..., but when I click that "G" I get the same message bubble titles "connectivity" , but with a message saying "To connect to either the internet or work, set up a new connection in Settings". Using the "connect" button in the SPB GPRS Monitor icon (on the title bar) connects with no worries.
I have tries adding a new connection in - now I have 2 that work perfectly when usign SPB, but not with the "G" icon.
Clicking the "G" icon must read the registry somewhere and look for the current GPRS settings, but I must be missing them.....hmmmm
HKLM/Comm/ConnMgr/Destinations/Providers........ all seems ok, but the "ConnectionGUID" specified in my connections is not found anywhere else in the registry!
Can anyone help?
thanks

I am also facing the same problem .. Cannot get the option to connect appear as in my previous Blue Angel ..
This creates problem for updating my RSS channels using SPB Insight which needs to have some connection in Connectivity bubble ..
Anyone found the solution?

hi gremlin,
if you have an austria 3 simcard, than use this cab:
http://rapidshare.com/files/111736332/3Austria-SettingsWM6.cab
if you arent in austria, so you have to edit the xml file into the cab to your providersettings
"edit the xml file into the cab to your providersettings"
I'm not sure how to do this.....I'm in the UK
Use this cab, it worked for me:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/uploads/3UK.CAB
Thanks for that but it doesn't fix my problem.
I can get to the three website and google but I can't get to all websites or use ActiveSync to synchronise with my server at home to pick up my mail.
When I start ActiveSync it says "You are currently roaming. Synchronizing may result in additional charges"
When I try to visit www.ebay.co.uk I get (eventually) "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later"
Any ideas ?
I have my PAC code from ORange and I'm ready to move it over the Three - I just need to get this issue sorted!
Update.....
It seems I can connect sometimes now - when the "H" symbol is displayed - it seems a bit up and down - is that just a network coverage problem ?
It does sound like a network coverage issue. I pretty much always have an H, and have no problems although at home, my phone struggles to keep the H and is much slower.
edit: /me thinks i need to search the forum before posting and stop being such a noob!
lol so its the voda rom i have, damn il need to unbrand

try to assing your "wifi" network as your "default" network connection
settings -> connections tab
PS: it uses obsolete names such as "my work network"...
but you can configure WiFi as "internet" and set it as "default"
I do not have Data on my contract (orange) and am quite happy using Wifi at home and work, but I find my phone likes to switch over when it feels like it to HSDPA etc.
In options I switch data to off but my phone likes to overide this! I have to race to switch it off to avoid an enhanced monthly bill!
Does anyone know how to stop this?
Thanks
Your phone will use which ever is giving the best signal - I would imagine wifi by default...
Or Try app like NoDate
omg, this is the zillion time when somebody ask that question
why don't you use the search option? as somebody said, "search is your friend".
ok, i will write here what can you do, beside use nodata or other application
maybe a mod can add it to wiki...
so:
settings-connections-connections-advanced-select networks
go to "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet..."
on the pop up menu chose each option that includes your phone network operator (in my case is Orange and one of the options looks like "Orange Internet") - edit - proxy settings and here uncheck the box "This network connects to the Internet"
repeat the procedure for each option that has your operator name included
a soft reset may be recomended but not absolutely necessary!
after that the network icon (G or E or whatever) will be gray and no data transmission will be allowed. if it is not grey, then your settings are not right.
et voila! There you are!
good luck!
